I saw someone I follow eat here on TikTok, so I thought let's give it a try. Plus, my cousin said he stops here often with his coworkers, so we came to try it out. We weren't able to order online, and we saw a line outside, but the line went pretty quick. We were taking our food to go, took about maybe 15 minutes total to get through the line, order, and be gone. I didn't think the food would be that good once we got home, but it was absolutely delicious. This is actually my favorite burger. There are mixed reviews from people, and I don't know what they're talking about, because I've tried burgers so many different places. Maybe we just all have different opinions, but I will say this: it's absolutely delicious. Season perfectly, cook perfectly, juicy, and great. We will definitely come back. Actually, we have been back a few times. We don't stay there to eat because it's very crowded, but even if we pick up our food and drive far home, it's still delicious when we get there. Definitely need to try it if you like burgers way better than any fast food burger place, of course! The vibe outside was cool. I believe we came when there was a game playing. lots of people watching TV, very busy inside. Everyone was really friendly and it smelled delicious .
Brandt beef burgers and beef tallow fries; I'm hooked. Tanner's Prime burgers in Oceanside is always a busy spot near the 101 and for good reason. Their staff is always courteous, even on a late night stop like this last one, and their burgers are really top notch. No wonder they've made to the Michelin Guide. Being so close to the coast makes it a little challenging for parking, but they do offer a few spots on their lot. The restaurant is kept clean and there seating options both inside and outdoors. I've tried the Prime double and Prime Dirty double burgers and love the Beef bacon added in. The Beef tallow fries are perfectly crispy and goes well with their special sauce. To drink, I've enjoyed the Tanner's Prime lager. This is definitely a must when you're in Oceanside and I'll keep coming back.

Yum!! The burger was delicious, with such great texture and flavor. I especially enjoyed how crispy the edges were while the center was cooked just right. We also got our dog a prime patty, and it was devoured in less than a minute. Sounds like we'll be back the next time we visit :)
This place... phenomenal. Honestly the smash burgers are insanely good. We love coming here for some big juicy burgers. Their sauce is really good to dip your fries or add to your burger. They even have puppy patties for your pups. This place can definitely get packed, specially on the weekends, but it is worth the wait!
Long overdue review of the best burger spot in North County. When I want a burger, definitely Tanner's. When I'm trying to decide on where to eat, Tanner's is always up for consideration. My go-to is the double burger with no cheese and no sauce. They give you the sauce on the side if you want to put some on, but I find it better without it. Pairing it with one of their refreshing beers (N/A from Best Day Brewing available) and their beef tallow fries is perfection. I'm not a fan of their Fatty Patty, a cookie ice cream sandwich -- it's weirdly too fatty of a mouth feel. I really wish they would sell the cookies by themselves. I had them at a different event, and I've wished for more beef tallow choc chip cookies since. If I liked baking, I'd get a tub of their beef tallow (yup, it's for sale) and make them myself. Hint hint to any bakers out there. And if you've read this far, I'll give up one of my hacks. Skip the line and sit at the bar. You can order full menu from there. Even if there's only one seat, you can sit there with a beer and put in your full party's order. Enjoy!!
Pretty good burgers! Fries were ok. Pretty pricey for the concept (order at counter and they bring it to you. Staff was ok a mix of friendly and just there to do their job didn't show much emotion. Causal ambiance had an OK Time finding a seat.
Ordered the 2/3 Double Prime Burger salad style to cut out some calories... hahaha. This thing was HUGE! Definitely a heavy meal, but so worth it. The beef was super juicy and flavorful, and everything was loaded with toppings and sauce. Honestly, I didn't even miss the bun! Definitely a fork-and-knife kind of burger, unless you're ready to get messy and just grab it with your hands. The tallow fries were just as good! Super crispy, light, and not overly greasy. They paired perfectly with the burger, and I could easily eat a whole order on their own. Overall, everything was delicious and super filling. Definitely coming back!
When you are leaving Legoland and need a good burger, this is the spot. One of the better smash burgers I've ever had. My son really enjoyed their wagyu hot dog. The tallow cooked fries are delicious especially with the cheddar sauce.
This was my second time at Tanner's Prime Burgers, and I was just as excited to come back after how much I enjoyed it the first time. Parking can be a little tricky since the lot is small and usually pretty full, so you either have to get lucky or street park farther down and walk over. The line can get long too, but this time we waited about 30 to 40 minutes total from getting in line to receiving our food, which felt pretty reasonable considering how busy they were. The staff was also friendly and welcoming throughout. On our first visit, we got the Tanner Prime Burger with a single patty and left wishing we had tried the double. This time we finally did, and it completely changed the experience. They definitely don't skimp on the meat, and the double patty makes the burger significantly heavier and much more filling. I still enjoyed it, but personally, I actually preferred the balance of the single patty and will probably go back to that next time. The Tallow Fries were also great, with a really flavorful, crispy texture. I may have gotten a little ahead of myself with the double patty this time, but Tanner's is still a spot I really enjoy and look forward to coming back to.
Not bad not great. The line was long for lunch 130pm. The food presentation looked great. First bite was great. Then put on the burger sauce and hot sauce. Good. Towards end of it, both my brother and I felt although burger meat is Prime and clean, the aftertaste wasnt spectacular, and we were not sure if it was the burger or the sauces or the plain house beer Tanner lager (which is self proclaimed "clean" taste whatever that means but was not anything special). We full but not crazy about it. Before leaving I bought fountain drinks and was impressed with the house sweet tea (honey and minty taste) and the lemonade. I preferred the lemonade, while my bro favored the sweet tea.
This spot did not disappoint. Got the Dirty Double and some fries. Fries were super crispy. Lots of foot traffic and it can get loud, but it's a great spot to grab a bite and hang out. Service is super fast. They even have some outdoor seating
Give into the hype and brave the lines because this right here is an EXPERIENCE. I've been told by so many locals that Tanner's is their favorite burger of all time. That is insanely high praise from Californians when In-N-Out is our burger poster child. I'd have to say that I agree with them. There's almost always a line, but it's worth it! We got the Tanner's Prime Burger along with some Tallow Fries. They bring everything you'd ever need in a tray right out to you- napkins, hot sauce, and Tanner's sauce all in tow. The burger is wow. It's a holy grail lineup featuring a brioche bun, juicy patty smashed with bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, caramelized AND raw onions, and a Cascabella pepper. You just have to try it for yourself. It's so indulgent, decadent, and everything you'd dream a burger to be. Their Tallow Fries are salted to perfection and are a NEED to accompany the burgers.

More hype than flavor, sadly...After living abroad for over a year, I was so excited for a good, classic American burger--and Tanner's seemed like the perfect place to satisfy that craving. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. My burger came out undercooked (still pink inside), and the onions had a strange, off-putting taste that threw the whole thing off. I also tried the tallow cheese fries, which sounded promising but were underwhelming--not enough cheese, not crispy enough for me. Honestly, the best part of the meal was the fountain Coke with ice, which hit the nostalgic spot I was hoping the food would. Really wanted to love this place, but I left disappointed. read more

I'm a big fan of smash burgers. A friend recommended this place and said they were just listed on the Michelin Guide. That's pretty impressive, but I had my initial doubts. Those doubts were WRONG. Food & Menu - Overall, I'd say this is the best smash burger spot I've been to! Their menu also screams amazing. They give off an In 'n' Out flavor to smash burgers and fries. And mind you, almost everything is made with beef tallow. It gives off SO much flavor in everything, even their dessert! Beef tallow really does make a difference. The smash patty was crisp enough to where it still held it's shape, it wasn't OVERLY crispy to being burnt, and the flavor was awesome. The condiments that go with everything was great as well. Their Tanner's sauce was like In 'n' Out spread with a little kick to it, and their fries seasoning was great too. Service - The one lady taking orders (I believe her name was Christy) was truly a star. She was friendly, she was funny, she was personable, she was out there, and she knew what she was doing. Vibes of "ALRIGHT! LET'S GET READY FOR ANOTHER BUSY SATURDAY NIGHT DINENR RUSH! WE'VE GOT THIS!". Such a pleasure. And she greeted our dog too :) They give you a number to place at your table (if you're dining in) and they bring the food out to you. Ambiance - A group of 8 of us came in on a Saturday night for dinner. We already saw a line when arriving, but it surprisingly didn't take long. Seems like the line goes by faster than it looks. They hand out menus while in line so it speeds up the ordering process. Finding seats was a little struggle because we're a large group and you can't sit in the next door's establishments' tables, but we managed to get 2 tables next to each other. I love that they're dog friendly and they even have a dog patty option! Overall, I love this place and it's a new top smash burger option for whenever I'm in the area! read more
Came to try this place with a group of 6. It was all of our first times. The food was fresh, hot, and met our expectations. The fries were unexpectedly my favorite part. I also love the inclusions on the burger. The patty itself was thin and crispy on the outside which added a nice texture. One note I have is the service. The cashier was extremely sweet and helpful with our questions. However, the workers who bring out the food and clear tables were not as helpful. Because this place is extremely busy and there's a constant line, I think they could be more attentive to tables that needed to be clear. We were patient with many of the workers and asked for assistance from three different people before our table was cleared of the prior groups food. Obviously they can't help the space they're in, so seating is first come first serve as it should be. This is something I think their team could slightly improve on :( of course we know it is busy and so we acknowledge that. Overall a good experience and liked what we had. read more
This spot was recommended to me by a friend who lives in the area and wow the food not disappoint! This spot reminds me of a converted auto shop with their interior. Parking will also be difficult when you're by the beach, but here it wasn't hard to find. Our group got a few items to try which were the Tanner burger, Tanner prime hot dog, and dirty tallow fries. I also got a lager to pair it with my meal. The portion sizes? Huge! With the three of us, we still couldn't finish everything. The burger was delicious, and I really loved how much meat was on it. The vegetables made the burger itself well-rounded and very enjoyable. The hotdog was loaded and the relish/onions on top really completed the hotdog. My favorite was the tallow fries. It came with burger patty on top, but the fries were so crispy, crunchy, and fresh. The workers here are super cool and friendly. You order at the front, grab a number and a seat, and they bring it out to you. There's plenty of seating here ranging from tables, booths, and bar tops. read more

I stopped in with my husband to have dinner, I have wanted to check this place out for a while. It was packed inside and out, the line was super long and out on the street, the food must be really good for the line to be that long. Once we got inside, we ordered and were lucky to find seating as several groups of people were leaving. I had the single prime burger, beef tallow fries and the double chocolate shake that was thick and creamy. The smash burger was so delicious and melt in your mouth, it almost reminded me of an In & Out burger, it even came with the same yellow hot pepper In & Out uses. They also have their own secret sauce that comes out with your order in a bottle that was pretty good. The staff and service were wonderful, they had a nice patio to bring your dog, and there was a small parking lot, but street parking was easy to find. Overall, I enjoyed eating here and would come back again. read more
Tanner's makes delicious smash burgers! The line might be daunting, but it moves quick. You order first then find a table. There's indoor and outdoor seating. We tried the single Tanner's burger, tallow fries, and the chocolate milk shake. The burger was juicy. The brioche bun was lightly grilled and the burger was saucy. The overall flavor was great. The fries were also very good. The chocolate milkshake was insanely rich. It was almost too much even for a chocolate lover like myself. All of the food we ate was delicious. I visited Tanner's Burgers today hoping to enjoy my burger, but once again the dining area was full of flies. I had to keep scaring them away so they would not land on my food. It made the experience very uncomfortable and raised concerns about cleanliness. Staff seemed to notice but did not do anything about it. This really needs to be addressed. read more

The bun and the pepper was my favorite part of the burger! You can opt for double patties like my boyfriend did, but I think the ratios are more satisfying with one patty. To each their own, but definitely come to try their burgers! They are popular for a reason! read more
Everything we ate was amazing!! Quality meat on the burgers, cooked perfectly. You can see and taste the quality of the meat. The tallow fries and milkshake is a must. The customer service is great everyone is friendly and helpful. There's a line to wait but it's not too bad. The also sell beer and wine, parking is a little tough but you can always park in the street. The ambience is pretty good as well, plenty of seating indoors or out, they have heaters for the outdoor seating. read more

Juicy smashburgers that are messy in the best way! Solid burger spot that definitely brings in the crowds, but the lines move pretty quickly. My boyfriend and I came for an early dinner on a Saturday to find a long line of people. We ordered a double, a single, and 2 orders of their tallow fries, along with a crispy soda and a beer. My boyfriend wanted to try their house lager, but they were out so he ended up choosing the pilsner. It was a full house and we were lucky enough to snag a couple seats at their bar top. Burgers were nice and juicy with a clean flavor. I liked how you can really taste the beef and the veggies were fresh. It did taste like a more luxurious in-n-out I'm ngl, but yummy! Their fries were dusted with paprika(?) and were super fresh and crisp. I honestly couldn't taste the beef tallow they were fried in, but I enjoyed them nonetheless! Parking is a bit rough, and we ended up parking in the neighborhood. I think this is a solid burger spot to give a try if you're ever in the area! read more
A simple menu with insane burgers including excellent gluten free options! Staff is friendly and quick and although the line can get long the food is definitely worth the wait. Got a double burger with fries and the burger was a great example of what smash burgers should look and taste like. The ingredients (lettuce tomato onion etc) were not top tier.. pretty average looking, but when you put it all together I was not disappointed. Service was quick and both ordering and wait time was swift and friendly. The atmosphere was casual / almost sporty looking place, and super busy.. maybe a bit loud from all the chatter. Overall I can't really complain, I live in Del Mar and plan on coming back. I enjoyed my food that much! Great job. 4.5/5 read more

So I rarely head up to North County from South Bay, but we were in town celebrating my brother and decided to finally check out Tanners--a spot my friend's been raving about. Let me tell you... FFFFFFLLLLLLAAAAAAYYYYYVVVVVVVVOOORRRRRR!!!!! We all got double patties, and these burgers were next level--crispy edges, juicy inside, packed with flavor. The fries? Perfectly salty and crispy. And get this--we each bought a tub of tallow for $20. Total steal. Now every time I'm in North County, Tanners is a must. Highly recommend it if you're anywhere near! read more

Came here last week around 4-ish so we beat the dinner rush, and found parking right in front. There are other neighboring restaurants so parking can get tricky I imagine. The staff were friendly and the burgers are delish, smashed yet have that crunchy edge. I ordered the tanner prime double and they forgot the lettuce and tomato. I honestly didn't notice until my husband pointed this out since his dirty double order doesn't come with lettuce and tomato and they looked exactly the same, yet mine wasn't spicy. So that was a miss for me since I wish I would have had that crunch of the lettuce and added flavor the veggies can give. The dirty tallow fries were smothered in beef fat and a layer of beef on top with that aioli sauce that really brings out the flavor. The kids mini slider was a little too small for $7.95- my son easily could have eaten a regular sized burger so def keep that in mind. Overall the setting is open, inviting and hope we can come back one day to make up for that one hiccup. read more

Tanner's is definitely a contender for best burger I've ever had. The consistency of the bite is remarkable! Every bite was seasoned well and had a very balanced flavor. Adding the burger sauce takes it to a new and distinct level. It felt like eating what other burgers dream to be. Smash patties!!! There's always a line at Tanners, the question is is it out the door or is it down the block? The burgers here are definitely some of the best in San Diego County. If you like smash burgers, Tanners does a true smash burger, pounding that 1/3 lb patty almost paper thin, with some nice grilled crusted edges. They have beers, TVs, one milkshake and even can make dog patties for your hungry pup! Tanners Prime 1/3 lb Burger - After I ordered this, I had immediate regret that I didn't order the double seeing how thin the patties came out. But... 1/3 lb was just fine for me because behind the paper wrap that patty kept stretching out so there was plenty of meat. But if you're hungry, definitely splurge for the double. The Prime comes with carmelized onions, sweet onions, lettuce, tomato and American Cheese. If you get the Dirty, it doesn't have the sweet onions, lettuce and tomato, but it does come with pickles. It's just a personal preference if you want more or less veggies. It's been awhile since I had a burger this memorable. I loved how the thin, almost crispy patty was well seasoned, how the veggies were fresh and that you could add as much Tanner's burger sauce as you wanted (they put a whole bottle in front of you). You can also spice it up with their hot sauce. Tallow Fries - There's only one kind of fries, so you can just order them as fries or tallow fries, they are all going to be tallow fries. They are cooked in beef fat which gives them a little more flavor, but I didn't find them that much different than fries at other places. That said, they are still great and something you have to get with your burger. Lager - I paired my meal with a house lager, which was an easy drinking beer that wasn't too filling or too hoppy. It matched well. Other notable items on the menu include... Dirty Fries (fries covered with beef, cheese, onions), Cheese Fries, Chocolate Milkshake (they only have one flavor for the milkshake), various beers and wines. Next time I really want to try a milkshake if I can fit it all down. The food came out quickly and the lady taking the orders is super sweet to everyone! This is a fun, casual place to go with friends and family on nice day near the coast. I know it's just a burger, but they do these smash burgers really well. I can't wait to come back! read more
TANNER'S PRIME BURGER This place is always line out the door! I've passed by here a couple times but never had a chance to reserve a time to actually stop by and dine in. My boyfriend and I decided to come in on a Saturday evening, around 6pm. Line out the door but wait wasn't bad, maybe like 15-20 minutes. We ended up ordering a single and double burger, as well as their iconic milkshake. It was pretty decent, the difference from other burger spots is that the meat is smashed, so it's a super thin patty, makes it easier to eat, and you can taste all the goodness in the burger. Burger was about $10 each for a single and $13 for a double. The chocolate shake was incredible, and I'd come back for it, it was fantastic, creamy, and tasted fresh! Overall, this place was pretty good for what it is. I'd still come back for the vibes, atmosphere, and the quality. Parking is a massacre, it's super small so I'd recommend parking by the neighborhood. read more
A great burger shop located in south Oceanside with great smash burger meals, shakes, and fries. I ordered the double burger and a chocolate shake. While my girlfriend ordered a single burger. The pros: The burger was crispy and fresh, comes with a small whole banana pepper on top that you can bite whole and add the juice into your burger and the bread was soft but also toasted. The chocolate shake was immaculate and had a great consistency and flavor. They have good indoor and outdoor seating but when it gets busy, difficult to find a table. Bathrooms were nice and accessible. The cons: Parking is very difficult. Their parking lot is small and if you go on the weekend when it gets busy, be prepared to find street parking. Their price is also a bit higher than most burger shops so be prepared to drop about $40+ for a meal for two. Rather go to In N Out if we are talking pricing. Lastly, I had the fries here before (not pictured) and they're great but are a little bit too crispy for me where they weren't very appetizing. Verdict: I'd recommend people to come try this place if they haven't. Great for a quick bite or to hang with friends as they have TVs inside with sports. Great atmosphere. I wouldn't come that often or make it a frequent go-to spot, more for special occasions or want to go out for an upscale burger. read more
This is a restaurant where you order at the counter and then hope to find seating. It took about 20 minutes from ordering to get our food. All the servers were very nice and they were working very hard to keep tables clean. Now onto the food... it was ok. All of this cost us about 40 bucks and we just kept thinking how similar the burgers were to in and out. The fries were very good, I will give them that. However, we would rather just save money and go to in and out for a similar burger. I don't think this is a repeater for us. read more

I was going to Escondido from Chula Vista and decided to take a side trip to Oceanside to finally try Tanner's Prime Burgers. This place has been hyped up all over social media for some time now and I will say it lives up to it. The ordered the double Tanner Burger and fries, the wife got the single, my son had the slider, we ordered two sides of fries, two lemonades, and a shake. Everything was 100% on point. The 1/3 patties were smashed so much there was crispy meat hanging an inch over the back of the bun. The tanner sauce is yummy, the shake is bomb, and the fried were scrumptious. The best way I can describe the flavors and experience is, Tanner's is like an elevated In-N-Out, in a really good way. Chill, friendly staff, laid back vibes, and really good burgers and fries. Overall I'm super glad that I tried it out. I wouldn't go as far to say it's worth the drive from Chula Vista, not much is, but it's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. When you go, don't let the long line scare you away, it moves fast. When we got there the line was parallel to the full length of the patio area, maybe a little pass, but from getting in line to receiving our food took about 25-30 minutes. read more

They are popular for a reason! Obviously they have the best smash burgers, but their tallow fries are also some of the best fries you could get. Everything is fresh and perfectly crispy. I love the options to really customize each burger/salad/hot dog. They do typically have a long line, but it moves quite fast. You order first then find seating and wait for your order. Your order comes out pretty fast so they do have quick turnover, making it easier to find seating. My friend and I each ordered our own Single Tanner's Prime Burger and we split the Dirty Tallow Fries. I ordered my burger without cheese and honestly I wouldn't have even noticed the difference because the flavor of the patty, bacon, and caramelized onions took care of it all. I didn't realize at the time that I could have ordered it as a salad or even single patties, but the options are endless. We absolutely devoured the dirty tallow fries. Such crisp fries with their flavored beef and house sauce. Just order the fries I promise they are worth it. It's a great place to get a quick and delicious bite to eat! read more
Wow! I don't normally drive 40 minutes for a hamburger and fries. This time I am really glad that I did! Tanners had a cool building with roll up doors which reminds me of a garage. Ordered at the counter a cheeseburger, fries and coke. Ordered a double spicy and cheese fries for my son. It was delicious! Although I bit into the hot pepper and was stunned for a few seconds. I quickly recovered. I highly recommend Tanners if your in the mood for a delicious burger and fries. read more

They have beer, wine, and hard seltzers. There's also a drink called the "Tanner's Sunrise" which is pretty much a mimosa.
Could you remove the halal friendly tag as that is misleading, if the beef isn't halal if possible?
Hello! I have looked into this and do not see a Halal tag on our account, as we are not Halal. I have spoken with Yelp support and they are unable to see a Halal tag, either. To clarify, we use 100% USDA Prime grade beef but we are not Halal.

Do I need to make a reservation for Monday evening?
I don't believe they take reservations but I believe it is walk up only and plenty of seating.
Are there any chicken/ fish or meatless options?
You could potentially get the salad and ask for no burger or bacon. Other than that option everything touches beef (meat or fat) that I see in their menu from hot dogs to burgers to fries to ice cream.
Do you have pickles?
The burgers has pickles in them, not sure if they sell them on the side.
Does Tanners use Peanut oil for any of the frying? There isn't a phone number to call to verify for an allergy... I assume it it all Tallow, but need to verify please
