I had a wonderful experience from start to finish at Tangles. I have super curly hair --I learned I'm a 3B-- and I have never had any hairstylist teach me so much about how to care for my hair before visiting Tangles. I worked with Hector and he was well trained in treating, shaping, and caring for curly hair. After 27 years of blindly experimenting on my hair, I learned what I was doing wrong and all the things I could be doing right. I love when someone can teach me something and I left Tangles with a wealth of knowledge about curly hair treatment. If you have curly hair, I strongly recommend that you invest your time (2 hours) in the Deva Curl Haircut. If Hector was any indication, all stylists at Tangles are well-equipped and knowledgeable about all hair types. This is truly the first salon I've visited that had confident hairstylists who could work on curly hair. Others would shutter away and just charge me more because my hair was "difficult". Honestly my review is based on the response/treatment before I even had an actual salon service done. I have super wavy curly hair and booked a keratin treatment. The night before I was cancelled on, specifically around 1am, which isn't within the 24gr cancellation period I would've been held up to. The owner Cathy texted and called me, explained that the stylist was sick and since this was close to a holiday weekend she would call me back after and even offered a discount since it was a last minute cancellation. That was around New Years, I did not receive a call or text back afterwards. I tried calling for her and texting her but nothing came from that. Super disappointed that I couldn't even get a response back but if it's indicative of how I'd be treated as a returning paying customer I'm glad I had a sense of that beforehand so I don't waste time somewhere I wouldn't be happy with. read more

I used to have really wavy hair, but then I went through chemo, lost my hair, and it all grew back with the infamous "chemo curls." About 1.5 years after my hair started growing back I was ready to get a hair cut, but my hair stylist of 10 years ghosted me after she found out I went through treatment. Being a little traumatized from that experience, it took me about 6 months to feel brave enough to go and find someone to cut my hair. Hector was so kind, accommodating, and unphased by the state of my hair. He understood that I was nervous about getting a cut, talked me through each and every step, and taught me the basics about my hair. He was thorough, gave great information, and made sure that I felt comfortable to ask questions. In addition, he understood that I wasn't ready to cut off as much hair as I needed to get the ideal cut, but ultimately did not push me to cut more off than I was comfortable with. It was in a super confusing location and by time I found it I was too late for the appointment. During my recent visit around the Pasadena area, I stopped here for a haircut. Due to bad past experiences with new stylists I was a little nervous of the end results. From the beginning I liked that I didn't need to make an appointment ahead of time and walk ins were a norm... yay! The receptionist directed me to Sarah C. She cut my hair perfectly without adding too many unnecessary layers, gave me a great blow dry and even styled my hair with curls. I was super impressed how great my hair looked and felt afterwards. I pretty much let her have carte blanche on my mane and she's never made me want to shave my head (even when I've volunteered to model for a color or cut class, she'll do her thing to further her education on all things hair, and of it's not a good fit for my face/style, she'll immediately remedy the situation to something even more fabulous). It's impressive that all these years following her around, she continues to hone her craft and go above and beyond to provide the best service to anyone that sits in her chair. My level of commitment phobia when it comes to salons is pretty impressive. It's always been hard for me to find a stylist who cares enough to slowly get to know my hair and how I like it cut, and I can be pretty ruthless when it comes to moving from salon to salon (though I always feel guilty about it). So I almost never write reviews for them cause it feels too "official" for me. I've had some interesting stylists at various places over the years. One used to cut hair when she was high. Another was a middle-aged divorcee who claims I convinced her to get high for the first time. So Tangles was almost too normal for me at first. I started getting my hair cut by Bri when I worked nearby. She and I initially fought over - and eventually took turns sharing - a parking spot. I guess that was a sign she was destined to tame my sideburns on a regular basis. Now it's been over six months since I stopped working near the salon, but I'm still driving there for haircuts, which is pretty serious for me. Bri is both skilled and friendly, and most importantly has invested in learning my hair and what I like. I don't have to remind her every time about my cowlick; she knows exactly where it is. She's also a dog mom, and keeps me updated on her dogs' adventures (or just shows me photos on their Instagram). Plus she never cuts my hair when she's high. The environment of the salon is clean and modern - it was renovated not long ago - and Jeanie, Cathy and the rest of the crew are some of the coolest people you'll ever meet while getting your hair cut. So there, I'm "officially" reviewing a salon. I may never wanna admit that I'm settling down at one... but that doesn't mean it's not happening. read more

I have come to this Salon a couple of times. Lyn was my stylist and I am so so glad that she was my stylist the first time I came here. She is so knowledgeable and friendly. I am not a big talker but she still made me feel comfortable talking or staying quiet. She is very good about pinpointing what you want to see for your hair cut and color and does a great job bringing it to life. My second time I had a major time crunch since I am moving in a week. I had debated on whether or not to get my hair done since it can be pricey but I decided to go to Lyn again. Of course as amazing as she is, she didn't have any openings but she was able to squeeze me in at her house on super short notice. It was a very nice experience and I am so glad I got to see her again before leaving the area. If I'm ever back and have the time I think I would definitely try to schedule some time with her. I have been coming here since June of 2015, I have Cathy & Hector do my hair each and every time. The environment is Soo wonderful, customer service is fantastic! Location is soo convenient. Park meters right up front or a parking structure on the side. It always smells Soo good inside too! My hair is extremely curly and I have been wanting it to get very very long, but my hair takes forever to grow! Since I've been coming here, my hair grows slowly! But it does grow!!! At last! I found a home! I lost two stylists during Covid (they lived but it's complicated!) and Devachan in NYC has shut down all their salons. From the very friendly and non-judgmental receptionist to the marvelous stylings of Hector, everything was perfect. Been coming here to get my haircut for about six months, maybe longer. I must say I really love coming here. The environment is amazing the staff is absolutely wonderful and very accommodating. I live in Tarzana so Tangles Salon isn't exactly around the corner from me which should say a lot. I get my haircut by Hector. For someone who is as picky as you can be about my own hair it's me. Hector always knows what I'm looking for. Of course it's always helpful if you bring in a picture of what your looking for either style or color wise and because I have fine hair to begin with I can't just style it but every time I get a cut Hector always does a fantastic job! They even give you the option of coming in for a "tune up," yes your car is not the only thing that needs to be maintained. So coming in to get the edges cleaned up is crucial. I couldn't be happier! I initiated my appointment online, and the salon contacted me promptly. The booking process was smooth and efficient. They use an automated reminder system, which I liked, and it included information on how to check in at the salon, which is a bit different during the pandemic. The in-salon experience was great-- the salon was clean, social distances were clearly marked, and hand sanitizer was provided. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. But the best part was Hector! I had a curly cut and style, and this may be the best haircut I've ever had. (And I went to Devachaun in NYC for a couple of years.) This review is long overdue- I've been coming to Lynn for a few years now and she's so wonderful. I have ringlet curls that have gone on a crazy journey while I've been in and out of pregnancy and postpartum and Lynn is so attentive. She really listens to me and makes recommendations based on what I ask and what I request and she always insists If I'm not happy (which has never happened) that I come back and she'll fix whatever. This past cut I was so overdue it had been like a year and a half and I really wanted a big change and SHE NAILED IT. I can honestly say this is the Best cut I've ever gotten in my life and I used to go to the original DevaCurl salon in NYC. I've never ever loved a cut the minute I leave the salon. It always takes a couple of weeks for me to accept the cut and feel good about it. Well not this time. I was so lucky to be able to have the opportunity to attend the Yelp event here. In the cute outdoor shopping area in Pasadena Tangles salon has a super chic salon. It's a great area with a ton of shops, work out studios, and trendy restaurants. If I lived closer to that area I would definitely go more often. They have many options for parking or meters along the street. The event really gave the hair stylists a chance to showcase their talents. When I arrived at the studio I was greeted by Katie B. Katie is in charge of Yelp LA. It was really cool to see how the Yelp community is such a real thing. It was more than just sitting behind my computer to tell my experience. Everyone that was invited conversed and understood what good service is. Yelp really knows how to throw an event. Champagne, and horderves were provided upon entry. Every yelper was assigned to a certain stylist. The stylists were sweet, and excited. They gave us three different looks. First, they she gave me a top knot look. After each look they had a photographer taking pictures in front of a yelp back drop. Hence my profile pic! The second look they gave me was a braid . She gave me a really cool fish tail braid that wrapped around my head. So cute! Lastly, I got a full shampoo & blowout! She was sweet enough to style all my extremely long extensions too. We were also lucky enough to get our make-up done. I forgot her name but she did a really good job at giving me fierce winged eye liner. I fell in love with my blow out and the studio. The salon itself is so chic. It has a really good vibe to it too. You feel like its a salon you can trust. They also provided the cutest gift bag which everyone got. It came with a ton of yelp accessories and coupons. Amazing and so kind! I definitely recommend trying out this salon. I love it! read more
