Poor photo of a fantastic fish - seafood broil
    Kara D.

I'm a little conflicted not rating Tangled Up In Blue a little higher, as I'm sure this is a local gem and I can tell the chef is kind and passionate, but the service was very disappointing and a few of the dishes didn't meet our expectations. Read on for deets if ya want! Three of us arrived at around 6pm, but we were turned away and told to come back in an hour because we didn't have a reservation and she anticipated it would be too busy. There was no one else in the place except for two tables. But we obliged even though we were starving already. When we returned, the place was still empty except for 2 tables, ugh. Not a good start. We ordered the lobster bisque, seafood broil, and beef wellington. The lobster bisque was neither lobster-y or bisque-y, lacking creaminess or white wine or sherry. We asked for a little bread to dip into the seafood broil, but instead were brought (and bought) a "bread platter" with pita, dips and veggies. But the seafood broil itself was amazing, swimming in butter, and the mussels and shrimp were especially plump and tender. The beef wellington was impressive in that it was tender and cooked perfectly, but the amount of duxelles was scant, just a little dollop on top. The chef came out a few times, even hand-delivering plates, which I thought was really cool. We enjoyed his service but I personally don't think I'd come back here to splurge again.

    Banana foster!

I really liked this place. I loved the decor, it was cozy and interesting. As far as the food, the star of the show was the bananas foster, it was amazing. They have a good wine list, including lots of local options. The bread they serve is pita, and it was wonderfully soft and delicious. I didn't love the hummus that came with it, though. I also wasn't crazy about the beef carpaccio, but it was at least interesting. I want to go back to try more of the stuff on the menu. We had just stopped for a "snack." The service was a little slow, especially since we were one of two tables in the place.

    a plate of food

This is definitely a must try if you are into delicious food, a quaint setting and hands-on service. I was a little worried at first because I am not a big fan of steak or seafood, but the jambalaya option on the menu was just perfect. My husband got a steak and he was also very satisfied. We ordered crab cakes and a hummus platter for appetizers and everything was made with love and care and tasted amazing. Although it is a little pricey, there is nothing like it around. The service was excellent. The chef came to our table for a personal touch and our server (who I believe is the owner), was super nice, welcoming and very informative. Everything from the ambience to the table decor was so unique and beautiful.

Turtle Lake Buffet - Beef carving station - first stop in the meat line.

This is a great place to load up on seafood, beef, and chicken on Thursday nights - 3.5 stars…read more The buffet is open on Thursdays and Sundays. Thursdays is by far the best night because that's seafood night. If you like crab legs, you really get a good deal if you go on Thursday nights. You can load up on crab legs, various versions of shrimp, oysters (usually), scallops, mussels, calamari, and last but not least - frog legs! If I go to my local grocery store in the Twin Cities, 2 frozen crab legs are 10 bucks. So it's a bargain to eat all of these crab legs (and the other stuff) for a meager 22 dollars. Of course, they also have sliced roast beef at the beef carving station. There's another version of beef & mushrooms in the self-serve area. They have roast chicken too. The salad bar area is pretty decent. I usually hit this first. It's easy because there's never a line for the salad bar. Then I wait in line for the meat items. One thing I want to mention is that the employees are all really friendly. This is amazing considering how incredibly busy it is and some of the customers are a little rough around the edges. There's one particularly skinny little dude that I usually see running in & out with food that's very friendly and funny as hell, cracking jokes with customers. I always say "hi" to him if I see him. There are a couple of things that keep me from giving out 4 or 5 stars: 1. The dessert area is a little light in variety and low in quality compared to other buffets. They have pies, bars, small cake pieces, and a soft serve ice cream machine. But all in all, there's isn't nearly as much variety as I usually see at buffets and they aren't that great. 2. Since smoking is allowed in the casino, the whole place is totally permeated with cigarette smoke. As a guy that grew up with second hand smoke, this whole thing is a little nauseating. It seems like nearly everyone has a heater in one hand and a brewski in the other hand. 3. The line is usually very long. The buffet room is pretty small and I'm amazed with how well they do with the space they have. Nonetheless, the line is a pain. If you're hungry and if you're close to Taylor's Falls, check them out! -Daddy Maxx Retro
