This is one of my favorite restaurants. I had a reservation and was able to be seated a half hour early. My waiter was Ricky and he was very friendly and attentive. I was brought water and bread basket and ordered a French 75 which was great. I had a couple of new for me food items. The restaurant looks great. The bathroom was very clean. The service was excellent. The waitress was very good at describing the food. The bread was great, especially the cranberry bread with honey butter. The garden salad with bacon, sunflower seeds and Parmesan peppercorn dressing was awesome. Was ready for a wonderful Saturday night dinner and oh what a disappointment. Started with ordering drinks and our meal. The drinks took almost a half hour for the drinks, and almost an hour for the meal to arrive. My wife and I ordered the filets at $55 each. They were both were burnt and lacked any seasoning at all. Food was acceptable, but not our first, second or third choice for quality. We were not in a hurry for our meal, but it seemed to take forever for each course to come, and the soup was luke-warm when it did come. After completing our preliminaries (soup, salad), waitress came to tell us the Pasta dish that had been ordered wasn't available, so the next choice was shrimp scampi....we were surprised to learn it took that long to figure out a dish wasn't available. This is the 2nd time I've had dinner here. Last time was last summer. The prices have gone up a little. I had the shrimp scampi. Shrimp were a little over cooked, rubbery, did not come over pasta like traditional scampi. Came with a scalloped potatoes, that were cold and formed into a ball. Also came with Brussels sprouts that had absolutely no taste. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars and not 1 is because the waitress was very nice and the bread and salad was good. I was pretty impressed with the The Winds - it's a legitimately good restaurant by any standard and especially good considering its in a smoky casino in the middle of nowhere. It's a little removed from the main casino floor and non-smoking so your lungs can get some relief. First, they've got quite a respectable wine program going. The selection is very good, bottle/glass prices are reasonable and pours are generous. They even offer flights (3 pours/$11)! I stuck with a Spanish cava ($9.75 for a good sized glass) and really liked it. The menu is a mix of steaks, chops and seafood. Prices are pretty reasonable too - entrees are in the $20's and $30's but everything comes with a salad (or upgrade to soup for $2), potato and fresh veg. Dinners start with a fresh bread basket of homemade baguette, focaccia and cranberry walnut bread with honey butter. I had a 8oz filet ($32) which was cooked exactly as requested, well seasoned and perfectly tender. My server recommended the au gratin potatoes and they may have been the cheesiest thing I've ever eaten (and I am from WI) - not that that's a bad thing, just be aware. They were super rich but really tasty. I upgraded to French onion soup (again recommended by my server) and was really happy with it - not too salty, mostly cheese and bread, just how I like it. Service was absolutely great - very polished, very professional and knowledgeable. Overall, I had not a single complaint about any part of my experience here - and my final bill? $58! For an equivalent meal at home (with a few glasses of champagne of course) it would have been $75+. The Winds is a great respite from the smoke and noise of the casino, or for a special occasion if you're local. FYI - the fab wines are restricted to the Winds. The casino proper only sells plastic mini bottles of Chateau-le-Shit. read more

Another excellent Chef's Tour at The Winds. I like that they let their chefs experiment . . . and sometimes the experiment ends up on the regular menu. The first course was walleye cakes. Smokey, rich and delicious. THAT should definitely make the regular line up. Spinach salad was fresh, and the raspberry vinaigrette a nice dressing. The petite tenderloin filet entrée you could cut with a fork, and the bacon and garlic cream sauce was special. And I don't usually like sauces on beef. With all of that and the bread basket, we had to have them box the desserts. The paired wine flights were well matched. They bring them out one at a time with the course for which they were matched. That way you can remember what you are having in case you want to make a Haskells run later. Oh . . . I stole the little Chef's tour publication they give you so I could do a better review. I have ALWAYS had excellent service here! Usually get the filet or ribeye, but had the walleye for a change and it was excellent as well. I have been here many times for a reason. I would say in the last dozen times I visited, 2 of them during the challenges restaurants had during covid I would rate an 8.5, and the other 10 I would rate a 10. Excellent place to go. read more

The Winds Steakhouse has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants to check out for a nice dinner. Located inside of Grand Casino Hinckley, this steakhouse is an escape from the commotion of the rest of the facilities on site. The food is absolutely top notch - and keeps me coming back. Below is what I have had the opportunity to try during my previous visits. FREEBIES: Bread and butter: with every meal you get free bread and butter, but not just any free bread and butter, probably the best that I've ever had. There are 3 different types of breads (baguette, some sort of cranberry whole grain and a focaccia) accompanied by 2 butters (sun-dried tomato and honey). An amazing start to the meal and they are very generous with how much they give (and of course you can always ask for more!). Salad: You get a free salad with ever entree. Their Parmesan Peppercorn dressing is amazing - a must try! APPETIZERS: Deep Fried Asparagus: One word: incredible. As good as fresh asparagus that has just been picked and deep fried to perfection. Beef Tenderloin Bites: Accompanied with blue cheese, these little bites are sinful and absolutely amazing. Crabcakes: Generous portions with lots of crab in them. ENTREES: Ribeye: Well seasoned and comes with your choice of potato (I would highly recommend the sour cream and chive!) Cajun Pasta: Shrimp and Sausage in a spicey cream sause with sun-dried tomatoes... oh so good, but also a very heavy dish. DESSERTS: Pink Squirrel: Okay, so not actually a dessert, but a dessert drink, but is made perfectly and is the perfect end to a perfect meal! The only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star restaurant is that for a steakhouse, the quality of their meat isn't quite as good as steakhouses in the twin cities area, although for the price - it's definitely well worth it! The Winds is a wonderful, peaceful restaurant with fantastic ambiance. We sat near the fire. The cocktails were sublime. The food was superb. The service from Joshua (Joseph) was perfect. Highway (restaurant) robbery! I ordered the Surf and Turf and ordered the shrimp as my surf. When the bill came it was $88 for that entree! I do not know how much it would have been for the lobster or crab legs. The reason this was robbery, or more accurately price gouging, was how much the tenderloin and the shrimp would have cost as separate entrees. I ordered the shrimp cocktail and received 4 of the same size shrimp as were on my entree. The cocktail was $15. If I had ordered the garlic shrimp entree it would have been $29. The tenderloins would have been $38. So, doing the math, if I had requested 2 separate entrees my total would have been $67, not $88. When I questioned the manager he stated that the high price was for raising costs, supply chain issues, the usual responses. However, this was the same size shrimp that was my cocktail(plus 1) and the same steak that would have been on the tenderloin only entree. Did the surf and turf shrimp and or tenderloin come from a different supplier? Probably not! This means I was charged an additional $21 just to put the shrimp on the same plate as the tenderloin. I left a message for corporate for an explanation for my approximate 300% price increase for the same food just because of how it was presented. read more

I am giving The Winds Steakhouse 5 Stars!!!! My Husband and I stayed at Grand Casino overnight to have some fun and get away. We treated ourselves to a nice dinner and it was amazing! Our server was top notch! Professional, kind, and never skipped a beat. Now for the food. We ordered a glass of wine and soon she brought out the breadbasket with an assortment of breads accompanied by a honey butter and a garlic butter. Next we ordered an appetizer of their Parmesan encrusted asparagus with a red pepper aioli. Succulent!!! Then comes the salad with our main entree. Mixed green salad so perfect with your choice of dressings. I definitely recommend their version of a ranch dressing. Now comes our main course. Hubby got the Porterhouse steak with loaded mashed potatoes and their vegetable du jour. I got the 1.5# Alaskan King Crab, garlic mashed potatoes and the vegetable du jour. All was out of this world!!! This place is classy, comfortable, and a definite must for treating yourself to mouthwatering food and a spectacular dining experience. read more

Best steakhouse in Northern Minnesota! We been there at least 10 times and have never had less than a 5 star experience. Waitstaff is extremely polished and professional which you wouldn't expect from a casino. We especiallly love the female waitstaff's hair styles. 90% of the time we get the Chef's Tour and wine flight. Only $49 for both and the food and wine are superb. The food courses and wine flights are perfectly timed. Almost forgot about the bread - the Cranberry bread is amazing with the special butter. It's definately worth the drive. read more

We have been coming to the Winds for some time and have rarely been disappointed. Tonight we came for the Chef's Tour, which was no exception. The Hoison marinaded pork belly first course was sinfully rich, and the Asian Cole slaw was a nice compliment. The Spring salad was a nice interlude. The blackened salmon followed and was near perfect. The spices were evident, but the fish was moist and not dry (as grilled salmon tends to be). The wild rice side was deep and complex and very, very good. The chocolate bundt cake was rich but could have benefited from being warmed. Service, as always, was impeccable. Heidi is the best wait staff on the planet. Joey in front runs a smooth and courteous operation. Make a point to give the Winds a try. read more
