Moved up to Forest Lake area over 35 years ago before buying a home in Lindstrom and I finally made it to this place. Granted it was something else years ago. Only negative thing I found about this place is the overwhelming onion smell in there. If you are sensitive to onions you'll want to get it to go. As far as the food, the most important thing. I had the Hot Italian sub without ham but with extra salami and no lettuce. Sandwich was absolutely fabulous. Will definitely make it a point to go more often. read more

Well, I don't know where to start. We read the reviews after living here 4 years were excited to finally go. They were closing in an hour so we called in our order. My husband has looked everywhere for a baked Italian sandwich since moving here from PA so he was excited also. Me.I love Clubs so he got the Italian & I got the Club. Absolutely terrible! We were surprised because the reviews were so good. His was dripping with Italian oil and hard bread. Mine was dripping with mayo. My tomatos were literally black from so much pepper. I was excited to give Stewie's a try because of the good reviews. I ordered my sandwich and was standing waiting for it to be made. I watched the woman making the sandwiches drop a large knife on the floor, she picked it up and put it back on the counter... which made me nervous that it didn't go directly to the kitchen sink... I thought maybe she'd grab a new knife, but no, she used the knife from the floor to put the meat on my sandwich and the one of the customer after me and then used it to cut them in half. I didn't say anything at the time, just took my sandwich outside and promptly threw it in the trash. That's disgusting and clearly unsanitary. read more

Came to Stewie's Subs today on a recommendation from a friend, and that recommendation was on point. I had the Baked Club sandwich, a Stuffed baked potato soup. The sandwich was very delicious, great tasting, the bread was crispy and not too rigid for a toasted sub. The soup was full of toppings and very creamy with chunks of potato. I believe I will be back here again in the future days to come... The staff here are wonderful and helpful, especially for myself being new to the area and new to this shop. What a great find! Thanks Yelp. We were out of town and hungry after crafting up in Pine City all morning. We found a local sandwich shop on the way back to the cities and stopped for a late lunch. The cashier was very friendly! We ordered our hot subs and before we knew it they brought them to the table. I got a Rex sub, chips, and a refillable soda for $11. Not too shabby! The hoagie was really good! Roast beef, turkey, cheese all melty from the oven. Onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. Yum! The Italian mayo had a kick to it. Jalapeno? Spicy? I couldn't put my finger on it, but it gave it a nice flavor. I don't think I would have searched this spot out without Yelp's suggestion. It's tucked in the corner of a strip mall where the locals know about it, but not anyone driving by. It's worth the stop! Even at 3pm it was just busy enough! Way to keep a local biz open! Found this place here on Yelp and sure glad we did! It's situated in the corner of a fairly dated shopping center right on the main drag in Forest Lake. Total hole in the wall dive but the food was outstanding. Bread was perfectly toasted, just the right amount of condiments meat and cheese and seems like a very fair deal in terms of what you get vs. what you pay. I also had a cup of broccoli cheese soup which was nothing to write home about but still very good and I would order again. I hope to find myself hungry again someday in Forest Lake, if so, Stewie's is where I'm headed. We stopped here for lunch on the way to go hiking after seeing all of the good reviews. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich. The woman taking orders was probably one of the nicest people I've interacted with. It was a busy day and took over 15 minutes to get our food, which is worth it if the food is good. Unfortunately my sandwich was drenched in a mayo-like very watery sauce, which was not listed on the description. It was so hard to eat because of that and difficult to taste anything other than that. I do appreciate the perfectly toasted bread, but it was hard to enjoy completely because of that sauce. I found this place while searching for a spot for lunch between two meetings for work. I pulled up and the place looked busy, for small town Forest Lake. This is a good sign. I walked in and the place has seating for about 20 patrons. The line at 11:30 a.m. was about 5-8 people deep. I ordered the Italian hot hoagie after reading some reviews, while my colleague ordered the El Diablo. Sat down, and our meals were ready within about 5 minutes. The Italian sub I ate was fantastic. It had some good kick, but the flavor was just incredible. I'm not sure what they put in their Italian mayo but man, is that some good stuff. My colleague asked what I thought of it, after the meal, and I told him that I can't remember a better sandwich that I've ever tasted. Long waits, constantly messing up orders, just overall disorganization. I had a $5 gift certificate and the person operating the register could only give me $4.50 of it because she didn't know how to ring it up correctly. I mean it's 50 cents, but the principal irks me.
