    Crispy lemon chicken
    Jan K.

Stopped in on a whim when we were passing by. We were greeted by the host and seated promptly. Our server was friendly and put our order in right away. My hubby wasn't too hungry, so he ordered the seafood campechana. I had a cup of clam chowder soup along with the crispy lemon chicken. My husband enjoyed the play of flavors in the champechana, but I did try it and thought the shrimp in it had a bit of a fishy taste . . . The clam chowder was amazing, and I did really love the crispy lemon chicken. The only real ding against the place was the waiter ghosted us after delivering our food and our water glasses were sitting empty at the edge of the table for a long time, pretty much until he eventually came back and found us waiting for our bill. It was around 7:30 on a Sunday night, so it's not like Mallards was busy and our waiter had other tables--we were it.

Swung into Mallards for lunch with some friends and had a great meal. The server was great and took the cues that we were a chatty group so was attentive without interrupting a lot. The space is open and bright, and there was a good amount of seating including and active bar. It was Friday so probably busier than a normal weekday, but we didn't have a wait for our table at 1PM. The lobster roll was delightful. Great flavor, love the large chunks of the lobster meat. It was a little tricky to eat as the bun didn't quite contain the innards but easily solve by using a knife and fork. The fries were also top notch! Perfectly crispy! My friend had the lobster quiche which she said was really yummy too. Great crust and the side salad was a nice light balance to the richness of the quiche.

    Chicken strips

Visited Mallards with a friend on a Wednesday evening at about 4:45pm. There was a ton of seating so that was nice - our server took awhile between visits but it was ok. We both ordered the chicken strip basket with the hot sauce on the side (warning the Nashville hot sauce is HOT HOT not just a pleasant hot but like VERY SPICY HOT). All of the food tasted really good, even the coleslaw and I'm not a huge fan of it. The restaurant is clean and wasn't too loud so it was very pleasant. Would definitely visit again.

Got the crab stuffed lobster tails. A piece of one the tails was visibly raw (translucent). Chef came out and loudly insisted it was cooked through, but it definitely wasn't. The chef came across as aggressive and rude, and a bit defensive. Our server, a young blonde boy, was super nice though!!

They are known for their seafood & Cajun flare! They are located in Bloomington, Forest Lake (highlighter in this reel), Inver Grove Heights, New Richmond & Shakopee. Some of their most popular dishes: Lobster Bisque, Walleye Bites, jambalaya & their lobster roll! This is one of my go to restaurants! Always great food and service. Love the outdoor patio in summer and a has a soft lighting ambiance inside with lots of seating next to large windows!

The food was great! Happy hour rocks and the servers were nice. Make sure you have an hour because the food takes a bit. Ambiance was good.

I really wanted to like this place. The vibe is awesome & the partially open kitchen is cool but…read morethe service was incredibly lacking & the food was mostly sub par. We visited for lunch and the restaurant was about half full. Our server however, was often nowhere to be found & we had to have the food runner attempt to help us on more than one occasion. Even then, we still seemingly couldn't get them to bring us plates for the cornbread. Trying to pay the tab took nearly 15 minutes of just trying to flag her down. My husband ordered their burger & the fries that initially came out with it were super undercooked. My shrimp po boy had a skewer inside the sandwich (not holding the bread together but running the length of the bread.) My mother in law did say her gumbo was amazing & their cornbread was delicious but I just don't think we'll be back, it really was nothing to rave about, even if they were just having an off day.

My husband had the Red Beans and Rice and really enjoyed it. Lots of meat in it. I was hoping for Crafish Étouffée but it isn't on the menu any longer. So I ordered the Shrimp Étouffée. Very disappointed. Only 5 small chunks of shrimp. It also has a sort of poblano verde sauce or maybe a poblano Maque Choux without the corn. Lots of celery. And the small amount of rice. I didn't eat much of it, after the shrimp was gone it was just bad sauce. A wasted $21. The cornbread was nice with honey butter. We split the bread pudding for dinner and it is excellent - DON'T MISS IT! Service was excellent. Especially the bus boy / water refiller. P.S. They don't do anything for anniversaries. Not sure if we will drive over 2 hours each way for Étouffée that was mediocre. The Crawfish Étouffée was excellent last time.

The drive wasn't the best because of a nasty storm coming in, but once we arrived, the atmosphere inside made up for it. The place was nicely decorated and had a lot more seating than it looked like from the outside. We were greeted right away and shown to our table. As the rain slowed down, more people started coming in, and I noticed they also had quite a few Uber Eats calls because several drivers stop by for orders while we were there, so takeout seems to be pretty common there too. We started off with the soft shell crab and cream puffs. My wife wanted me to try several of the dishes she ordered, some of which I'd never had before. A lot of it wasn't really my style, but it still tasted pretty good just different from what I'm used to. The only hiccup was getting napkins; once the place got busy, I ended up having to walk up to the counter to grab some myself. Other than that small issue, we really enjoyed our visit and I plan on coming back to try some of the other dishes on the menu.

I had a very poor experience at The Cajun House. I had just flown in and wanted to grab something…read morequick on the way home, and The Cajun House had been something we've considered trying for some time. We walked in to see a staff member who clearly didn't enjoy his job. He didn't greet us and made us approach him before he asked how many people would be dining. Looking into the dining room, there were several empty tables that had not been bused, and there was only one other party dining at the time. This was already a red flag, indicating that the staff didn't care about the cleanliness or appearance of the dining room. The menu is very extensive. From the outside, it isn't clear, but The Cajun House is a Chinese restaurant first and a seafood boil restaurant second. The first page of the menu is entirely dedicated to dim sum. I was surprised to see that they were serving dim sum late at night, and I questioned how fresh everything was. Flipping through the menu, about two out of ten pages were dedicated to seafood boil or Cajun dishes, which was a bit unexpected given the restaurant's name. Anyway, we decided to go for the seafood boil, and ordered a side of beef skewers to try. From former reviews and pictures, it seemed like these were the most popular items. The beef skewers came out first. One order was 13 dollars and came with five skewers. This was on the pricier side but not unfair. We split the dish. The beef had decent flavor, although nothing crazy. It wasn't fatty, but it had some seasoning on it to make up for the lack of quality. The beef was also relatively tender. It had a bit of a chew, but in a pleasant way, pretty much the texture I would look for in a noodle or fried rice dish. I was somewhat satisfied with this dish. For the seafood boil, we went for the combo. Every combo comes with two potatoes and two pieces of corn by default, each of which can be added on for two dollars each, a sauce, and a selection of two different seafood components. We went for the shrimp and "crab cluster" for an additional three dollars, adding on a dozen sausage slices and the garlic butter sauce. Right off the bat, it was easy to tell that the seafood wasn't very fresh. Both the crab and shrimp had a weird, off-putting flavor and aftertaste. It was slightly fishy and didn't sit well on my palette. We also weren't given anything to crack the crab shell with. We resorted to just using our teeth and trying our best to pull it apart with our hands, and using the skewer sticks from the beef to push out the meat. The garlic butter sauce wasn't great either. The meat wasn't picking up the sauce very well and retained very little flavor. The highlight for me was the sausage. It was surprisingly smoky and burst with flavor. It picked up some of the sauce, but the flavor I liked definitely came independent of the sauce. The potato and corn were both fine. They had decent texture, especially the corn. The potato was on the mushy side, but still served its purpose. For a lot of our meal, there were no employees in sight. It was impossible to wave anyone down. Our waiter was sitting down out of sight, and the only other worker we saw seemed to be working the back of the house. When we finished our food, it wasn't clear if we were supposed to wait for someone to bring us the check. We waited about five to seven minutes before someone came in to pick up an online order. When our waiter popped out to give the customer their order, we walked up to the front and paid out. We weren't given a check to make sure there weren't any mistakes, and just had to go with what he said. From start to finish, the service was really bad. The only time we got a refill on water was when our food got delivered. Other than that, we were never checked on. It just seemed like our waiter didn't care at all. The dining room was messy and unorganized, and the food was generally mediocre, with the seafood leaving a lot to be desired. There was plenty more on the menu to try, especially the Chinese food, but everything seemed dirty, and I didn't like how I was questioning the cleanliness of the food. This combined with the very unpleasant experience I had with the service will definitely discourage me from coming back.

I had been trying to get us here for several weeks and now the stars have finally aligned! ( I did not want to cheat my gal out of this 1st time experience by having it alone. We Had So Much FUN!) Dang! I am so glad that I waited! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted and asked if we had been to KC before? ("No, but highly recommended by my employer!") Ryan, (mgr.) asked us to pick a table and would be by to explain how the menu is set up and works! (Great so far!) Staff , (and patrons as we looked around on our way to the table) were all smiles and truly looked like they were enjoying themselves! The dishes on the tables were well-presented and VERY appetizing to see! (Great Again!) At least 20 patrons were already tucking in and enjoying the heck out of the food and themselves! (most wearing plastic bibs and gloves.) A half minute after we were seated, a pleasant young lady came by with ice-water .(she and others checked back often enough to check on us.) We were both giddy at the prospect of choices offered. It took some minutes to decide after carefully looking over the menu. (So many wonderful choices! Too many, OMG I want ALL of it! ) We decided on menu item Combo 3 ( for this visit) . It consisted of : 2 cluster of snow crab legs 1 whole lobster 1 lb crawfish 1 lb head on shrimp 1 lb green mussels 1/2 lb sausage 5 corns, 5 potatoes for $99.99 (They cheerfully substituted 2 lobster tail for the whole lobster! :D We were DELIGHTED! ) We also ordered a sticky-rice (3.50) and an order of Thien's Fries, pronounced Tea-en, (Ryan kindly helped me here as it is not phonetic.) for 7.99. They are loaded with cheese, sauce, seasonings and bits! Delicious! Nearly a meal in itself! We had to stop eating the large portion of fries so we had some room left for the sea-food! .....and it came....on to the platter....erm...tray...erm ..barrel-top? (22 min from initial ordering), everything is hot, steaming, fresh and wonderful!) It was a Perfect Sea-food heaven! :D After taking in the beautiful sight of this Enormous tray, Carrie and I cracked and pealed and shared bites and ate our way to to complete satisfaction! (Men, show your love and bring your gal here and order #3! :D) Our tray was still quite full when we were done and we left with multiple meals that (Ryan carefully bagged up!) we can enjoy tomorrow! Thank you, Thien, Ryan and staff, for a memorable (and will often be repeated) experience! We Love King Cajun! Sincerely, JoeZ and Carrie (by the window :) )
