Like a local hole trump supporters? This is it, lots of polite regulars and quick attentive service by the staff. Burger we ordered was fresh and cooked to perfection. Fries were hand cut but seemed as if they were reheated. Plenty of tvs to watch sports. Best of all the price is right!!!! Tan was $20 less than I expected. read more

We like to try new places. Decided on Friar's for dinner. Atmosphere was good. True bar and grill atmosphere with pulltabs. We ordered whiskey steak and the steak was really good! The fries were not. Bland with no seasoning and what tasted like old grease. Steak knives were terrible. Definately get better steak knives. Tables we sat at was cool with a fireball shooter and stickers laquered into it. Definately liked the wall signs. Played some pulltabs, had a few drinks and overall enjoyed the restaurant. read more

Walleye was on special. Huge piece. Very nicely breaded with good chicken soup as a side and fries. The fries are decent but that's all I'll give them. They look good in pictures and they have the ability to be great.......but they don't seem to be double fried, or maybe they are in for too long. By the time you get them they seem overdone. Local dive bar offering up a limited menu of bar fare. No frills, dated interior with bar height chairs for the locals around the bar and a scattering of tables on the bare cement floor. Not looking for a full meal, we found ourselves selecting and enjoying one of the starters. Their Smokin' Pork Fries came with fresh, hand cut fries with a good amount of their own smoked pork, spicy sauce and ranch. Thankfully my wife had the foreknowledge to have them lightly cover the meat and put the remaining sauce on the side. My first bite of tasty, smoky flavored pork dipped heavily in the Sriracha bbq sauce had me coughing and reaching for the water. We had a cheeseburger and then you can add extra cheese and different condiments for $.25 for a Saturday special the burger was fresh and delicious the fries were natural cut actual potato french fries they were crispy and tasty with no added salt the whole meal was amazing!!! read more

This place seems like a bar for regular townies. I think the owner was sitting at the bar thanking people who I assume were regulars for coming in. She said hello to us as well. Wasn't sure if were supposed to wait or to seat ourselves. After a little bit of standing in the middle looking like lost sheep we grabbed a table in the back. There were a few other diners where we were sitting. After a few minutes; our server came out with some menus and drinks. She was nice, but seemed a little nervous around us. Maybe it was just the feeling we were getting. She was nice enough and did a good job for what we needed. I ordered the reuben which was ok. Liked the marble bread, but I should have ordered it without the thousand island dressing. There was too much slathered on it for my liking. Didn't try the cole slaw that came with it. J had coleslaw with his and said it was a tad too mayo-y for his liking. He ordered a sandwich and said it was pretty good. Their "taters" were pretty good. A tad greasy, but really well flavored. Little medallion potato tater tot esque looking things. They were really good. There's a pull tab window, a bar and a full menu. I had to explain to J what a pull tab was. I remember them from days of going to the small town bar with my grandparents or places for broasted chicken as a kid. I noticed that they served broasted chicken which I would order, but like most broasted chicken, it takes awhile to cook. They have a pretty decent menu for bar food. What happened to the menu. The food is seriously lacking here. Please amp up your menu with some tastier appetizers. There always seems to be a lot of smokers at the bar and the side door that they use wafts a lot of smoke into the bar area. Reminds me of when you were able to smoke inside. They have a meat raffle and a decent happy hour as well. That seems to bring people in. read more

The best part of this dive bar is the fresh french fries. The fries are freshly cut and amazing. I wish I could come up with more positives to say. The owner, lady with large curly, blonde hair, is beyond obnoxious. I wanted to ask her if she'd like some bread to sober up. She mad me feel very uncomfortable. This bar is definitely not for strangers, this is a regular's kind of bar! I walked in and felt unwanted, This isn't the friendly neighborhood bar that I like to frequent. It's not the cleanest bar either, especially with all of the smokers going in and out and the doors being open all the time. This bar could be awesome but definitely needs a new owner or else she needs to stay home. read more

I am sitting in this pub for the second time and second waitress. Which I thought was a good thing since the first time the service was bad, unfortunately that is not the case. Unprofessional, slow and went out for a smoke break before serving our food with smelly fingers and hair. The staff at Friar Tucks is awesome. The food is great. Nice for a quick lunch, too. I would definately recommend the specials.

Had the steak dinner...was a good steak. Thick cut of meat done nicely. We wanted to try the food since things have changed here recently ( I think a new chef) and were very happy with the whole experience. Dont waste your time the owner sits at the bar and gets drunk when you have a problem she stumbles to your table and laughs at you and tells you not her.problem and there were a lot of bugs in there there was rodents as well. This place should be shut down read more

Stopped in for lunch, it was nice, cheap, and quick. Nothing on the menu is outstanding, but it all did the trick. I can't imagine coming back unless we are in a pinch when in Forest Lake, but we did enjoy our lunch. read more

If you haven't been here for a while - GO BACK! They have completely remodeled and done a great job. While it still has the neighborhood bar and "regulars" feeling, the atmosphere is much brighter and the food has done a 180. We go there occasionally with a few of our friends who are "regulars" and I have been pleased with the food. I'm a typical food snob so that says a lot. Recently had the French dip with fries. Great soft roll and hot crunchy fries - au jus was a little on the salty side, but it went great with everything else. They have Stella Cidre on tap, which is a plus as well. Have also had their wings, home made kettle chips (yum) Walleye sandwich, cheese curds, and burgers. They do a great job and have really become a great option in town. read more

The ONLY thing even remotely decent about this place was the food. The atmosphere and service were horrible. My girlfriends and I went here after a movie one night. We walked in and instantly felt like one of those movie scenes where you walk into a place and all talking stops and everyone turns to look at you like, "how dare you intrude on our secret society!" We stood there awkwardly for what felt like five minutes before we decided to just seat ourselves. The lady behind the bar (which was ten feet from us and where she could easily see us standing there waiting) couldn't be bothered to say, "I'll/someone'll be right with you" and instead acted busy with the whopping four customers sitting at the bar. So we sat ourselves and then waited for another ridiculously long time before the same bartender who snubbed us earlier came and threw some menus on our table, took our drink order, and disappeared again. She returned and, I kid you not, slammed my drink down in front of me literally causing it to slosh all over. She then stood and impatiently took our order. It felt like we'd done something to offend her. Did we sit in a closed section or something? If so maybe she could have told us so before we sat ourselves. She brought our food, conveniently forgetting a few things (side of ranch, ketchup, extra napkins, refills, etc) that she would just as conveniently forget about all together. She checked on us once and we eagerly asked for our checks-anticipating another disappearing act. After waiting nearly TWENTY minutes for her return ( I know this because we timed it) we walked up to the bar and asked her again for our checks. Between the four of us I think we left her an insulting 84 cent tip. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone, not even my worst enemy. They need to completely revamp their approach to customer service. It's a shame too, being in such a prime spot next to the theater. read more
