It is a bit of a bittersweet story about my first Pine Ridge experience. My grandma grew up in this area, and this was her favorite place to get fried fish. She always talked about it and would eat here any time she was back in the area. I hoped to visit with her someday. She was supposed to go in July 2025 with some family, but was sick and not able to make the trip from her home in KC. Unfortunately she recently passed away, and our family gathered in Wisconsin for her memorial service. Pine Ridge was so gracious and accommodating and opened early for about 30 of us to visit and have grandma's favorite fried fish experience after we had her service. It was unbelievably good, and I now know why grandma loved coming to Pine Ridge all those years. Nothing better than being with family enjoying amazing food. Hands down - best fish fry experience in WI. Maryanne was the sweetest server I think I've ever encountered. Start to finish -- our expectations were exceeded. We started and finished our meal with fry bread, which was absolutely delicious. I appreciated that the fish fry was family style, and included broiled and fried fish AND fried chicken. All was absolutely delicious. The place itself is amazing. From the lake views, to the outdoor bar, it's a true up north gem. If you're in the area and don't visit, you're missing out. Tip - Arriving at 4pm guarantees you just enough time to enjoy an Old Fashioned before your table is ready. Get there 30 minutes later and you'll likely be waiting. This was my first fish fry and I have thought about it countless times since. I may be biased because it's the only fish fry I've ever been to or experienced but I'm already thinking about coming back. We did have to wait about an hour. But we got delicious cocktails while we waited. A lot of other families who were waiting were smart and brought games with them. It was so worth the wait. Every single food item was delicious. It's been a few years, and my family went back to Pine Ridge tonight for their fish fry while in the area on vacation. This meal was as good as I remembered! Different from the last time we were here, we went right after they opened at 4 and only had to wait 30 minutes or so for a table inside. And once seated, our food came fast. For the fish fry, you have the option of AYCE fish and chicken *or* spaghetti and chicken. And for the fish, you pick fried or broiled. I got fried fish. These pieces were larger, longer than my plate. I wish the breading had a bit more spice to it, but it was light and crispy, like I like it. This also came with coleslaw, fries and fried bread, which tasted like donuts without the glaze. The server kept the drinks and fish coming. Happy to have this as a vacation family tradition. read more

I've been going to Pine Ridge for years and overall, it's a great restaurant. But last week, under fairly new owners, the food was horrible. The french fries, the fried fish and the chicken, all over cooked. Of course, all usual, the service was excellent. When we addressed this issue to the owner, there was no apology, no "I'm sorry", no " The customer comes first" concern. He replied "I hope it's better next time! ! !" If the owner had shown a reflection of customer satisfaction, we would have said, one time doesn't make a place bad. But this was the 3rd time of bad tasting food but the other couple. I hope I hear about better reviews soon, because if I don't, there won't be a next time ????? read more

Always enjoy my dinner here the only complaint is the wait it took to get a table for four ..... completely understand but when you see set empty tables kinda is a little frustrating... we had the butterfly shrimp in garlic butter very tasty and the prime rib cooked to perfection. The walleye fish fry is amazing. It's all you can eat and my favorite fish fry in the area. The fish is served piping hot and just couldn't be better. The staff we dealt with was very accommodating and professional. I've gone there with family, friends, and even once by myself and every experience was great. If you want fish fry on a Friday night, pine ridge is one of the best in the area (and we have tried numerous over the years). You will wait, so be prepared. Stop and put your name in and then get some drinks and enjoy the outside while you wait. They have really good house cocktails that are always available and a good selection of beer. The fish comes fried or broiled with fries or baked potato. The fish fry also comes with fried chicken, fried fritters and coleslaw (with cranberry's in it, the best)! We had a group of 10. From the outside it looks like a reasonably sized restaurant. We arrived at 5:30. Parking lot was pretty empty so we were confident we would be seated in a reasonable time as they did not take reservations, "first come, first serve" hostess told us on phone. There was a group waiting inside, a couple at another table and two groups of 4 outside. We were told 30 minutes if we wanted to break up or 45 if we wanted to stay a group, we were OK with splitting up. We waited and had cocktails, people started piling in. After an hour and a half we approached the waitress and asked about wait time (again). She said there were several folks in front of us(?) WHAT? We were hear early and folks were getting seated. We were completely bypassed for 90 minutes, she also said she could not tell us how long yet because of all the people in front of us. "How is that possible? We were here there were 4 groups". Her response, "Well many of the people ahead of you are renting the lodges and came and put their names in and left" My response was, "SO you do take RESERVATIONS!" Her response, "Well they are local"....she did not care nor even attempt to apologize. I personally think it was their goal to just get us to spend some $ at the bar. Enough said. I went into the dining room, there were 3 tables of 4 open and ready for seating. The others were full. It has 10 tables of 4 for a capacity of 40 PEOPLE TOPS that they can serve at a time. There was absolutely no excuse for this. This is UTV and snowmobile riding country. If you are vacationing and visit this beautiful area, bypass this place, plenty of other eating places with better atmosphere and food. If you are "local" and a group of 2 to 4 people, I'm sure the experience is entirely different. The hostess from Saturday, Sept 21, 2024 definitely needs to be retrained AND advised on to handle customers, probably the worst customer experience I have personally had. read more

I've been here about 5 times for Friday night fish fry, twice or thrice on Sunday. It's hands-down my personal favorite spot in the area, well worth the 30 minute drive from our place. Walking in the entrance, the feel of the place and the self-service bar with its neat list of specialty cocktails, reminded me of the movie, The Great Outdoors. I think I even glanced around looking for the late and great John Candy and his high-wheelin' brother-in-law Dan Akroid. The place perfectly embodies what we all love about being Up North. And then comes the all-you-can-eat Fish. And Chicken. And fries. And little fried biscuits. And the complimentary sweet wine. Service is always friendly, fast, functional. I love this place. In order for you to believe this place deserves a five star review you will have to be in the right mindset during your visit. This place is definitely a "must stop" for the family style walleye and fried chicken that is offered on Fridays and might also be available on Sundays(?). My visit was on a Friday with a group of 7. If you're not first in the door (4pm) be prepared to cozy up to one of the picnic tables situated outside. This is ok (as long as the weather cooperates) because you can see the lake and you are "up nort" after all. During your wait there's a small bar inside you could take advantage of (gets crowded) or perhaps just have a few cold ones on standby in a cooler in the car. You are likely stuck outside with your group for 1-2 hours if you get there after 5. Again, right mindset with the right group of friends and the wait is just part of the evening outdoors. Take advantage of the opportunity to engage with a stranger stuck waiting at the picnic table next to you and you can commiserate together on the wait. As other reviews note, family style fried or baked walleye with fried chicken, coleslaw, beer batter fries or baked potato with powdered sugar fry bread donuts. ALL YOU CAN EAT and it really is pretty darn good. $15 per person and includes a small glass of wine. I usually hate waiting at a restaurant, but Pine Ridge was just so much fun and GOOD. read more

Crazy busy in the summer months, I'd advise going as early as possible to get a table. My husband and I enjoy ordering off the menu for the delicious seafood and steaks. We can see advantage for families going on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays for family-style fish and chicken and spaghetti, as it's quick service and good food, but it's just not for us. This is the best fish fry I have ever had! And there's bonus chicken as well. The fries are really good and the baked potatoes are very salad. The fry bread is awesome and the coleslaw is super good. Has a little sweetness to it. Thanks to the dry Craisins. Definitely recommend this to anybody who is in the area, they do not take reservations and on the weekends it fills up and is super busy, the food comes out pretty quick is always hot and fresh not really greasy. We tremendously enjoyed our baked fish, chicken, baked potato, coleslaw and the FRY BREAD!!!! Our wait person was fantastic, outgoing, and attentive. We tipped her generously. HOWEVER, before dining we had 2 drinks at the bar and paid with a charge card and put the 18% tip on the card. Low and behold, when we received our charge statement from the bar portion it reflected an increase of $3.50 above what was on the receipt. CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS AFTER DRINKING HERE! Occasion: Friday night fish fry, what else? Was informed by several locals that this is "the" Friday night fish fry. While the crowd would suggest that is the case, I didn't experience anything magical enough to justify eating a belly full of fried stuff at 4pm. We arrived and the family went to get in the line (at about 3:30 we didn't even get a spot on the steps) and add our name to the list. I always make a point of letting a place know that I have a Service Dog because they usually want to seat us in an out-of-the-way place in the restaurant. (This is more for their convenience than mine.) The host balked to the husband about my service dog, which made me want to run screaming right away. (She's new to me and I'm still pretty anxious about taking her places.) Family convinced me it would be fine once we got in there so I tried to calm down. When it was our turn, we were seated and greeted. The waitress was really nice and patient with us as she explained how everything worked. The food and drinks were what we expected and what was described by the other reviews so I'll omit those details. Yes, everything was delicious and the service was good - I'm just not into long waits or super early dinners, which seem to be the choices here. Would I recommend? Yes - once to say you went if you're not into early dinners or long waits, multiple times if this scenario appeals to you Would I revisit? This was the best meal I had in Wisconsin by far! For $14.95/person you get a glass of white zinfandel, a large bowl of coleslaw, a basket of fry bread, and a big basket with four large pieces of fried fish along with breaded chicken. The white zinfandel wasn't dry and the coleslaw was a nice contrast to the fried food. The fry bread is almost like a thick chewy funnel cake, due to the powdered sugar on top. The fish was a tad bit bland, but tartar sauce helped. The chicken was crispy and flavorful. They quoted a 45 minute wait at around 5:30 pm, but it ended up being only 20 minutes. They had a decent bar, which was perfectly suitable for grabbing a drink while waiting. There are big tables with community seating. Overall, I would definitely come back because of taste + value! read more

Kathie Parker Brier I used to love this place. Historic restaurant, excellent food, excellent service. Last night my brother, mother, and I went for the AYCE fish and chicken fry. We got there before 4:00 as that is when they open, but apparently there were people waiting outside so they let them in and there was an hour wait. They asked if we wanted to sit in the bar area and we agreed. It was packed and the waitresses were going nuts. We never got our glass of complimentary wine when we sat down and was told it would cost a dollar. Not a big deal but first Red Flag. I ordered separately and ordered a breast and wing and also ordered a baked potato with sour cream. My mother ordered a wing and a drumstick, and my brother ordered a thigh and breast. After waiting a very long time for our dinner (2nd red flag), it finally came out and the fish, which is usually large, beautiful, pieces of walleye, were small strips of walleye that turned out to be not hot, and they were mushy (third red flag). I got my breast, but no wing, my brother got a thigh, but no breast. I was able to ask for my wing, but my brother was told he would have to pay $2.75 for a reorder on the breast (fourth red flag) - even though he never got one. THEN, we get one of those little paper cups that hold a large tablespoon of sour cream. They charged us 0.25 for it (Fifth red flag)! Are you kidding? We used to get these large packets of sour cream and never charged. Our meal also went from $13.99 to $18.99!!! Now, I am seeing prices go up in all the restaurants around here, but not by that much, and then they don't include the wine or sour cream in the price. So, mom had two small pieces of chicken for $20 bucks and my brother was missing his chicken...another $20., and mine without fish as it was nasty, was $20.00. All plus tax, of course. I have been going here for over 15 years, my mom probably close to 20. I will never go again. And what made me come to that conclusion? The owner (who just bought it in May and is young), and his attitude of not giving a rat's ass. It literally was like, "Oh well, what do you want me to do about it?" BIGGEST Flag of all! And the people we sat next to also stopped by and said the same thing about their meal and not coming back. After talking to some servers who are sick and tired of how they are being treated and how the quality is going down, say they had previously been treated like family and they loved working there. There may be many leaving...the stress and the attitudes aren't worth it. Too many flags to even count. So, sadly, bottom line.... it stinks! Mom and I definitely won't be going back. That speaks volumes and will get around our little town(s) very quickly. The beautiful name and reputation that was built is going to blow up very quickly. I definitely will not go back for a fish fry much less a regular dinner as generally it's more expensive and I will just not chance it. read more

Outstanding find out in the woods west of Hayward. I felt the warmth and cheer from the moment we walked in and saw the lovely bar with NO TELEVISION! Wow, so impressed to see just a bar without screens. It's good to see. Service was first rate. First, the hostess advised us that due to a lot of orders in front of us, our wait might be 45 minutes. Then, our server kept our water filled and made sure we were attended to the whole time. The 45 minutes turned out to be more like 20-25 (pretty normal) and this was no issue as we were comfortable ordering tap beers from Surly Brewing and a delicious appetizer (the ahi tuna). I had the broiled scallops and my fiancé had the prime rib. Both were very well prepared and in appropriate quantities, meaning that our plates were not overloaded. First time back to Pine Ridge since new owners took over. Went for the Sunday fish fry and we were not disappointed. Fish was crunchy and flaky on the outside, moist and delicious on the inside! It was crowded but the staff managed it well and we were seated in about 20 minutes. Service throughout our meal was great. Server Kim was awesome and host John B checked in periodically. All in all it was a great meal with great service and plenty of Northwoods ambience. I highly recommend stopping if you're in and around the Stone Lake area! read more

2nd visit in 6 months resulting in never going again. 1st visit, great food, but refused to serve us dessert after spending $80 on dinner and drinks, said they were too busy and needed the seating. 2nd visit we asked for two additional specific pieces of chicken x which were eaten, and upon asking for carry out boxes, we were informed that if you order one additional item of anything, no carry-outs. Had extra fish and pasta which they would rather throw out rather than you taking what you paid for. Will never go back and will never recommend, regardless of the quality of the food. Literally the best Friday Night Fish Fry I've ever been to in my life. It's all you can eat family style and it includes Fried Chicken, Fry Bread, French Fries or Baked Potato, and Cole Slaw. They make fantastic Old Fashions and plenty of beer options if you decide you want something more or different than the free glass of wine that comes with the meal. Watch out for the fry bread because it's super fresh and loaded with powdered sugar and you can easily fill up on that before your fish arrives. One of our favorites. Best Friday night chicken and fish fry around and it comes with amazing fry bread. You have three choices on a Friday: chicken, fish, or chicken and fish. In the summer don't be surprised to have a two hour wait. But no worries, there is an outside bar, picnic tables and plenty of yard. Bring yard games, cards or whatever to entertain yourself and just enjoy the great outdoors while you wait. We have also ordered various menu items on nights when a full menu is available. This is our favorite place to go. Food is always excellent. Super busy for the Friday night fish fry plan to be there at 4:00 or you will wait up to 2 hours for a table. Fish & chicken on Friday nights comes family style with delicious coleslaw, fry bread, choice of potatoes augraten, baked or french fries. Food and service was great. However, if you reorder ONE of anything you cannot take any leftover food home. They will throw ALL of it away instead of letting you take the food you pay for. I understand if you order a whole other basket but we ordered 2 specific pieces of chicken since there wasn't enough for everyone we had in our party. The server said that she will lose her job if she gives to go baskets, so unreasonable and ridiculous. Such a disappointment and so wasteful. We will not be back. read more

I was there in the summer if 2018 and the fish fry was excellent. Growing up in Wisconsin I've literally had 100s of fish fries and this one is in the top 5%! Seating can take a little while, but when the line is out the door you know the food is good. Be patient for a table. Wish they were open more is the only downside to this place. read more

Pine Ridge is hands down our favorite supper club in Wisconsin. You have to go on Friday or Sunday for fish and chicken. Fry bread to start along with the most delicious baked or deep fried cod and broasted chicken you'll ever have. Everyone is super friendly. Be prepared for a wait on weekends in the summer. Come hungry. As everyone else has said this is the best authentic fish fry ever. The fish fry is served family style and includes fried chicken, biscuits, coleslaw and more. Too much. Be sure to show up early and hungry. You will still have to wait but hopefully not as long. My first time here a few years ago was coming with family members in their eighties who have been summering up here for most of their lives. They come here once or twice a summer and have for many years. So while this place may SEEM remote, people up here will travel a good distance for a great meal at a place associated with their history and memories. People come from all around and pack this place for the ultimate Northern WI tradition- fish fry. And since there isn't a lot to do up here, this is often the big event of their day or even their week, especially when family is around. For those not from around here, Fish fry is a whole meal that iNCLUDES fish it isn't JUST fried fish. Also, the fish in this meal can often come prepared in more healthy ways, not just fried, so don't let the name deter you and be sure to ask about options. This is a great place to go after looking through the cute shops in nearby Stone Lake or enjoying an afternoon drink at Schoolhouse Wines.
