Cedar Lodge was pretty busy upon our arrival, but we managed to find a table right away (it's seat yourself). The menu had so many tempting options on it. We started off with the chili beer cheese totchos, which came out pretty quickly. They were very flavorful and everyone enjoyed them. It took a long time for our entrees to come out. It eventually got awkward as the dining room we were in nearly emptied completely, except for one other table that ordered right after us. I had the ribeye, medium rare, with garlic parmesan fries and mac & cheese. The ribeye needed more seasoning and some areas that were seared/charred literally hurt my teeth to chew. My mom ordered the honey bourbon chicken & shrimp and she was sooooo happy with it that she talked about it for two days. My husband had the chicken marsala pasta with crispy chicken and he felt it had been sitting in the window for a while as it was barely warm. Now, we finished eating, got to-go boxes, paid, and as we were leaving the guys next to us that ordered right after us still didn't have their entrees, so there were definitely some issues with the kitchen that night. I guess maybe I'd go for lunch next time and hope it's different during the day. read more

What a disaster! The food is great but the owner is less than a good person. We simply asked a question about portion size and the waitress wasn't able to answer the question so she brought out the owner and he told us to never return because we questioned the portion size of a side. You can't beat this classic place in the heart of Wisconsin. The great, down-home staff here ensure that your warmly welcomed and well-taken care of. The front of the restaurant features a cozy bar and a variety high tops. (A few years back a pool table took up this space, but under new ownership the good became the focus and with great results!) I. The back room there is plenty of booths and open tables, even for a large party. It's intimate seating, but the atmosphere and local patrons give a warm comfort to the dining experience. They've got a TouchTunes to play old country or to resurrect that 80's hair band you used to bang your head to. Menu is full of good eats, mainly known for their quality burgers. Always checking on us and very informative about their services very knowledgeable about the foods that they served and was dead on. Highly recommended for anybody passing through northern Wisconsin. Ok so.... I would normally give a place like this a three star rating because of their abysmal beer selection and the fact they still allowed smoking inside... I realize that WI has had a smoking ban in effect since 2009, however the smell of Joe Camels Butthole, and the dirty ashtray suggested that smoking in this place still happened from time to time. Beer selection and smoking aside, I had one of the best burgers I have ever had here. I had the 1/3 Brisket burger with bacon. The burger was tender, juicy and flavorful, the bacon was good enough to be house cured and smoked, the toasted bun was fresh and added the perfect touch. All of the food was hot... The fries were tasty but lost their luster as they cooled so eat them first. The coleslaw was surprisingly good. The delicious burger went a long way to buying back that fourth star and then some. The service was also super fast and the value was excellent. This place could very easily earn a 5 star rating in my book with an expanded beer selection. read more

Fantastic little bar/grill just North of Ladysmith. The Chicken Caesar wrap and BAR burger were awesome and our server was so friendly even though she was getting crushed due to what appeared to simply be high demand for a great spot. After we left and got home about 3 hours away I realized I left my phone on the patio. To my surprise Jared called us back when they reopened and said he found my phone and offered to send it back to me without expecting anything in return. There are still good people out there doing good with all the turmoil right now and this place has those kinds of people. We will for sure be back next time we are nearby. For what the selection of restaurants there are in the area, this is a great find. Fast service, fair selection of food, and well priced. Had the ribeye and it tasted great! Perfectly done and juicy! Sweet potato fries are good as well. Two Tootsie Rolls top off the diner with the check. Small selection of beer and is bottled or in cans. No tap. Mostly domestics. Some wine available. I took a couple of friends out to dinner, on a Monday evening, to Cedar Lodge. We selected the restaurant based on its Yelp reviews. We found it deserves the high marks it has received. First of all, it's a great northwoods bar. You feel comfortable and welcome as soon as you step foot inside. We were fairly early so the place was quite quiet. It filled up as the evening progressed. There is the front bar room, a smallish dining room, and an outdoor deck with tables. We were immediately greeted by an exceedingly affable waiter and seated in the dining room. Our view, through the windows, was beautiful Wisconsin woods at the height of fall coloration. When seating us, he presented the menus and pointed out the chalkboard with the daily specials. Drink orders were taken immediately and arrived promptly. They have Spotted Cow on tap. Yay! Beers are served nice and cold. The Cedar Lodge offers a number of homemade items, rather than frozen restaurant pre-configured products. As an appetizer we selected the house made, garlic cheese curds. These were excellent, with just the right amount of seasoning. They offer a number of different flavors of curds as well as a large selection of other starters. On the specials board was BBQ ribs, available in half, or full rack options. Strangely enough, Northwestern Wisconsin has a small pocket of restaurants which serve some very good ribs. Having lived in Kansas City for over 15 years, I was eager to give these a try. One of my fellow diners followed suit. Absolutely first-rate! We both chose the honey-mustard sauce and were delighted to find it a complement to the beautifully smoked meat. Some sauces are just too thick and overpowering. These ribs are hard to beat and yes, they were falling-off-the-bone. One of my companions chose a Chicken-Caesar Wrap and found it to be a very good choice. The minor negative was that she would have preferred a bit more zing in the coleslaw. All of us opted for the fresh, homemade french fries. Again, Yum! We we all delighted with our meals and are looking forward to returning for the Friday Fish Fry. Actually, we're looking forward to coming back to try all sorts of different things. My wife and I ordered the 2 piece fish dinner .The menu advertise the fish dinner came with bread. We were going to order hamburgers, but decided to try the fish dinners. After along wait for our dinner we asked about the bread. We were told they were out of bread. The dinner was ok not great, the service was slow and and overall not very good. If you go, you might want to sit at bar so you can get your drinks a little faster, you will be drinking a lot while you wait. I'm not sure if I will return anytime soon. read more
