This past Saturday, we had a family dinner at The Ranch Supper Club with approximately 30 members of our immediate family. This was financed by our mother who passed away a while ago, if Ma were still around, she would have loved this dinner and family camaraderie. The food and service were fantastic. This is an excellent establishment! Do not miss this place if you are in NW Wisconsin for a visit. We drove nearly an hour to get there as we are staying near Webb Lake and it's worth every minute. We had New York steak, salmon, and fried cheese curds with sautéed brussel sprouts. Dessert was the crème brûlée. The cookie served with the dessert was outstanding! All were worth it and delicious. The Ranch hit it out of the park again ... for service, food and beverages. We visited on Sunday night over the ever busy Labor Day weekend. Reservation at 6:30 ... no wait, our table was ready. All the staff are energetic and friendly; pacing is perfect. We tried the mussels appetizer for the first time and were blown away ... remember this is in rural Wisconsin. The mussels were huge, perfectly cooked, and served in a delicious broth with plenty of toasted bread rounds. My husband I both had the fried walleye dinner. We have eaten walleye prepared in lots of ways at lots of venues. We always come back to the same conclusion... the Ranch does it best. Lightly battered, served hot, huge portion. What's not to like. One last thing ... I always love the Ranch's Old Fashioneds. But I'm coming to appreciate their wine list too. Best Valentine's meal in years!!!! This was our first visit to The Ranch Supper Club, but now that we've had the experience we'll keep driving the 1+ hour to get there. We were seated at a comfy table by the fireplace and our stellar waitress, Julie, kept the flow of food and drinks moving at just the right pace. The meal started off with a cocktail shrimp appetizer that had plump and delicious shrimp, cocktail sauce and a lemon quarter. After that, the relish tray arrived with crisp veggies, pickled herring, pickles and cheese spread for the assortment of crackers. Our salads and dressings were also fresh and flavorful. My hubby and I both ordered the queen cut prime rib, his medium-rare and mine medium and each was cooked perfectly, had the right amount of seasoning, and was extremely tender. For dessert, he went with the maple bourbon crème brulee and I chose the salted-caramel bourbon brownie. Everything was so amazing that we made sure to buy a round for the kitchen (an option on the menu) and we left with smiles on our faces in a major food-coma. The ranch supper club has always been one of my favorite places to go, but we were there recently, and I have to agree with the other reviewers that have found the restaurant to not be what it used to be. We, too, sat for an extraordinarily long amount of time before someone even came over to our table. We were seated near the kitchen area, so lots of traffic back-and-forth by servers, but no one stopped to ask us if we had been served, if we wanted drinks, nothing. Finally, our server came, and we ordered drinks, which also took a while to reach us, and then we got the relish tray. They might as well stop doing the relish tray. It's a very much reduced portion of what used to be on this supper club classic. My steak was also overdone and very small. I ordered the smaller fillet and it was very disappointing. They used to serve a 3" thick filet, but now it's a half inch thick and about the size of a woman's palm. It also costs more. read more

The Quintessential Wisconsin Supper Club Experience. I would go back for the relish tray alone! But the walleye is the real draw here. We went two nights in a row, because it was so good Thursday night. DH had the broiled, and I had the fried walleye. Both were delicious, but the broiled was actually superior because it was tender, buttery, succulent, and juicy. Really tasted like you expect walleye to taste, better than we'd had in years at any other restaurant. So I got the broiled the second night, and was really disappointed. It was completely dry, overcooked to the point where it was almost inedible. And to add insult to injury, the French fries were undercooked. If we had just gone Thursday, and not Friday, my review would've been 5 stars. But the treatment of the fish on Friday was so insulting, they lost 2 stars. I really should have sent it back, but then I would've been eating alone, as my son and husband would have been done way before a new dinner was cooked (they ordered fried that night). But all in all, I do recommend this place, the servers were all wonderful, the atmosphere is great, and the bartender was good too. If you really want to be like a local, be sure to order a brandy old-fashioned. You can order them a few different ways, sweet, sour, or regular. read more

I was excited to try this place, but apparently they weren't excited to have me. Bartender couldn't be bothered to serve me on a slow night with a few people at the bar. She made the server from the restaurant come over to wait on me which she did but would run away back to take care of the one table of people in the dining area and would never check on me. Had to flag her down to get more water which I needed to choke down the food. Walleye cakes were so over cooked and tough, like hockey pucks. Sauce they come with was ok. Pork chops were so bland and dry I couldn't eat them. They came with wild rice which was also so dry and just gross. Server asked me how was it when I only ate a little bit of it, told her "eh kinda ok?" Trying not to say how horrible it was but hoping she would stop and hear me out. She said kinda ok? And kept walking back to clean tables or whatever she was doing. Lady who looked like a manager was there but she didn't seem to want to ask either. Didn't care. No one cared so I got my bill and left. Left over half the food sitting there and no one thought to ask why. No one said have a good bye or acknowledge I was leaving. What a gem in Hayward! Awesome atmosphere for a Wisconsin supper club. I ordered a 16 ounce ribeye for $37 and it rivaled ribeyes I have ordered in the Twin Cities for a whole lot more money. Maybe it was my mood after riding in the Seeley Big Fat 14 mile fat tire bike race, but this steak was a great selection of beef. Cooked to perfection. Took my sons bachelor party here for a nice dinner. Wasn't disappointed! From the time we walked in until we walked out was a top notch experience. We were greeted by the bartender and served cocktails at the bar upon arrival and seated shortly thereafter. Relish tray was exceptional. Three of us ordered the Walleye and got the biggest fillets we've ever seen. The others got steak and we're pleased as well. My boyfriend and I had a good steak dinner at The Ranch over Labor Day weekend! Though outdoor dining was offered, there were only two tables on the front porch and it got pretty dark, and our waitress forgot about us a number of times. We spent a lot of time waiting for her to take our order and bring the check. The prime rib served Saturday night was pretty good. It could have been more tender and there were extra large pieces of fat. The accompanying potatoes were forgettable. My boyfriend's hash browns were burnt. I really liked the alphabet beef soup and my boyfriend was delighted by the relish tray. I definitely look forward to returning to The Ranch after covid! Though the outdoor seating situation wasn't ideal, we liked the steak and the ambiance of the restaurant. read more

I was born and raised in Wisconsin but live in North Carolina now. I try to come with my family annually to see my parents. Heritage over what Wisconsin was like for me as a kid is important to pass along to my children. The Ranch is a place that the scenery, sounds, menu, and service are what I would call an authentic Wisconsin supper club. Our server (Carrie) was awesome. She was patient and attentive (I had my 7 year old son) and the walleye scampi was legendary. All the choices at our table were equally as enjoyable. I've been coming to The Ranch for over 20 years and they do not disappoint. The supper club atmosphere is nice and relaxing, the old fashioneds are good, and the steaks and shrimp are delicious. Also make sure to get the ranch dressing for your salad or cheese curds - it's better than any other ranch dressing I've had. But most of all, I look forward to their chocolate cake all year (this year it was 12 layers!), so make sure to save room - it's worth it. What a treat! We were in Hayward contemplating the purchase of vacation home and found our way to The Ranch which was such a pleasure. The staff could not have been more friendly - fun, professional and kind. We felt as though we were their best customers (Dawn and Rich - THANK YOU)! Our food was excellent and appropriately priced. I ordered the Rib Eye and my husband the Walleye. While it wasn't Chicago-Steakhouse-Superb, it was darn good and when combined with the classic relish tray, fresh salad, warm bread and outstanding service, you simply can't be disappointed.
