While on vacation we decided to have one nice meal out and this was the place. We came in on a Saturday night and the food was fantastic. The prime rib was a great cut and cooked just right. Even the salad with ranch dressing was fantastic. The service and atmosphere were all really nice for a city out in north country. We will visit again if in the area. read more

It has the vibes of a supper club surrounded by the woods. It's warm and inviting, amazing customer service and attention to every detail. The food was great, we had fish fry and shrimp. Fish was fresh, with a crisp breading and was all you can eat, but with the complementary relish tray and bread no extra fish was ordered. Amazing steaks! They add a walnut bleu cheese butter to their steaks ($2.95 extra) that just makes the best flavor! Its on the pricier side. All steaks are over $20. And the biggest is only 16oz but they are DA*N good! Good service. Nice cracker, herring, cheese and vegetable pre meal. A little cheezy that the crackers are served wrapped but I understand why. We always stop at the Ranch when we are in Hayward, you should too! read more

The fish fry was great. Broiled or deep fried cod. Broiled was very good, deep fried had a light crust but the batch I had was salty. Slaw salad was good. Service Very good, Drinks spectacular. Owner Bar tender was very helpful and polite. I am a little upset with myself that I have not tried the Ranch before. Nice quiet romantic spot for fine dining. Classic Wisco Supper Club. I've dined at many restaurants in the area, and my opinion is, the Ranch offers the best steaks in town, great Canadian Wild Caught Walleye and delicious fall off the bone BBQ ribs. The Old Fashions are great, and I love that the Ranch offers wide variety of liquors made in Wisconsin. Exceptional service and friendly staff. Doesn't get any better! read more

This is a solid supper club serving Friday fish fry and Saturday prime rib. Our meal was delicious. The relish "tray" was small but adequate and included two traditional s often omitted: herring and cheese spread! I had the fish trio and my friend the tenderloin, cooked to perfection. Not sure what some of the other reviews were talking about. I walked in with one other person at 8:40 (they close at 9:00) and got fantastic service. The food was phenomenal, steaks were great and they didn't skimp on anything, especially because we showed up and ended up being the last people in the restaurant. Prices were very fair and worth he quality of food that you got. My wife and I tried this restraunt and quite frankly it was not a good dining experience. The waitress we had was rude and not very friendly at all. It took a bit to get our water refilled. The steak we had was average but when my wife bit into hers there was plastic still on the garlic butter for her steak. When brought to the attention of the waitress and management we were told it was impossible and they got VERY adamant that it was not the cooks fault. I work in customer service as well and even I know you do not argue with the customer. We have been vacationing in Hayward for over 15 yrs and I will say this was the worst experience we have had here. There was no apologies or no attempt to correct the problem. My parents live in Hayward and we have been coming up from the Twin Cities for years but we have never been to the Ranch. We will now be coming back every weekend that we are here. We have never had better service and food. The steaks were cooked to perfection with the highest quality of meat - the shrimp was exceptional. The wine list was extensive with a great variety of red wines. The service was better than we have had in any 5-star restaurant. Laid back atmosphere with great drinks and amazing food. We've been three times now in the past 5 weeks. Not many if any places in Hayward are doing anything about social distancing or masks or anything as far as we can tell. But here it's obvious they are taking it seriously. Tables are far apart, outside dining is available. Ok how about the food, well we always get walleye so we can say it's good but know nothing about the other items. One of the visits we had what I can only call terrible service, a disaster if you will. But to be fair qualified help is hard to find and it seemed our waitress was training on her first night. Not sure if true, but it was somewhat worse than that. However, I'm not going to hold that against them this time. I appreciate that they are doing their best to keep us safe. read more

A group of five of us had dinner here over the busy Birkebeiner weekend and we were very happy with our experience. The bartenders know how to make a stiff drink and the food was delicious. Our server was particularly attentive and friendly. Most of us had the filet which was cooked to our individual liking and another person at our table ordered the chicken which he said he wished he had ordered the larger portion it was so good. Very nice dinner at The Ranch. The owner and servers were friendly and we enjoyed our meals of prime rib, ribeye, and chicken Caesar salad were perfect. The homemade soup was also delicious. We love the old supper club feel and thought this place was decorated nicely. The men enjoyed the Old Fashions too! Second summer in a row we've visited this place. Its a neat little supper club, with servers that are really good and food that is pretty average. The prices are fair, and given how awful the service is in most places in Hayward (and I don't blame others places much, its hard to keep up the friendly pace when you are overrun with tourists for months at a time) this is a oasis of calm and competence that is a welcome addition to the vacation. I had the seafood trio this last time...oddly it was deep fried, and the batter was meh, but the meat inside was good. They have an okay beer list with good local offerings. I know we'll go back if we return to Hayward for a future vacation, and that is just fine with me! read more

We were looking for a place for steak in Hayward and we had heard good things about The Ranch so we tried them. We had reservations and were seated right away and then had to wait almost 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us for even a glass of water. They certainly weren't short staffed as we saw many servers hustling back and forth from the kitchen. We finally had a waitress take our drink order, another 10 minute wait for the drinks. We ordered our food right away and were given a small relish tray which was just okay. I had a salad which was good, husband said his clam chowder was mediocre. The 6oz steaks came and we were very disappointed. First they looked more like 4 oz steaks, they were flat almost in the shape of a hamburger. Mine was okay but my husband had a hard time chewing his because it was very tough. I tried his and he was correct. i had hash browns which were very greasy. Husband said his baked potato was good. Maybe our first mistake was we went on a Friday night when they have a fish fry. Don't know. But we won't be back. We'll try to find another steakhouse in the Hayward area. read more

Amazing prime rib!! Our group of 4 all ordered it and are still raving a few days later

The ambiance and setup of the restaurant was great. The food was decent but the service was pretty horrible. While we got our drink order fairly quickly, it took at least 20 min for a server to even acknowledge our existence. It took over 2.5 hours for dinner for a table of four, and numerous small things like forgetting drinks and getting the bill wrong just added up to a bad experience. We may have just had bad luck or poor timing, because other tables seemed to get served quicker and get better service. The steak and walleye dishes were well prepared and delicious. The Lyonnnaise potatoes were not what one would expect- basically diced bland potatoes. The appetizers were also a miss. The cheese curds were OK, but nothing special and not what you would expect coming from Wisconsin (tasted more like frozen curds from a bag). The walleye fish cake was good, but a little pricey given the ratio of rice to fish. Old fashioned was a little on the weak side for the price as well. I wanted to love the place and wish them all the best, but I won't be back. read more

We went to The Ranch because of the reviews I'd seen on Yelp. We weren't disappointed! Our meal was delicious. Our waiter (Rich) had a great sense of humor and also made some suggestions on the menu. He was spot on! Our steaks were cooked to perfection...tender, just the right temperature, and just exactly as we ordered (medium rare). Very disappointed with this supper club. We have been visiting Hayward for over 5 years and thought we would try the Ranch. We put are names on the list and told it would be about a half hour. No problem so we ordered drinks. There were less than 15 people in the bar on Friday night and two bartenders and after one and a half hours and only being able to get two drinks we left at 8:30 pm. As we checked for our names on the list many tables were empty. They just don't get the concept of customer service. Went to Anglers restaurant downtown and it was packed. I took a friend visiting from out of town to dinner and we had a wonderful dining experience. The customer service was fantastic, the moment you walk in the bar area you are greeted, with a friendly "hello". The high school yearbook collection behind the bar, was an added touch, for people who may have grown up in the area. Beautiful view in the dining area, with an old supper club feel to the décor. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. The brussel sprout appetizer and nicely done relish tray were nice complements to a delicious meal. We went to Ranch SC on a Friday night for fish expecting to wait forever - we did not and were very pleased. After ordering three perfect Manhattans, (one w/ cherry, two w/ olives) that were fantastic, we ordered a great relish tray (hey, it's a SUPPER CLUB - that's what you eat) and shared it while we sipped our booze. The fish was good, freshly baked and the sides were hot. The fish was not -- came out luke warm, not the best, but it was still tasty. Our waitress didn't mind my dad'sgoofy sense of humor and it was a relaxing 90 minute meal. Warning - don't drive after three perfect Manhattans... :) read more

Friendly people. Slow slow service. It's a good thing they provide a relish tray with each entree as well as bread and soup because the portion size for the fish fry was very small--one fillet for the walleye. And only about a dozen fries. Turns out they give refills on the cod but not the walleye, and that would have been helpful to know before ordering. That said, the walleye was over-cooked (and overpriced for the serving size) and the fried cod was gross. The only entree that was a hit at our table was the walleye picata. read more

Loved this place. The food was amazing topped only by their service. I live in the Twin Cities and this meal was comparable to some the best we get here. We were shocked when the bill came to see how much we got for the price. The steaks were prepared perfectly, the cocktails were made with top shelf liquor and we had a great bottle of wine. In addition to a great dining experience, I forgot my credit card which they promptly mailed back to me, continuing to thank me for my business, despite the inconvenience I created for them. I had an old fashioned for my before dinner drink - it was good. The service was very good. We both had the ribeye. The steak was very tender, and both were cooked correctly, but I was surprised it did not seem not very seasoned - we both added a lot of salt and I am not one who likes extremely seasoned food, I like to enjoy the flavor of my food and not overseason it. The squash soup my hubby had for a side was watery and tasted kind of odd - I didn't even like it and I usually like that kind of thing. Sides were just ordinary. Not sure we'll be back or not, very nice ambiance, good service, steak tender and cooked well, but whether the value is there for us or not, jury is still out. read more

My wife and her family are visiting the Northwoods as we usually do each year. We had a great experience last year at The Ranch; however, this year was completely different. This year we were met with very unwelcoming hostesses. It started as soon as we walked in the door. When the hostess asked if we had a reservation. We arrived at 5:10 and there were hardly any patrons there. The hostess asked if we would like a booth, and we politely asked for a table. She made a flippant comment, "Let me see if we can make that work." Please note when we walked in they had 2 people sitting at a four person table when they had a few two person booths so giving us a hard time to start did not sit well. When we ordered our drinks the hostess was just fine until we ordered our food. Her demeanor went from friendly to cold when she took our order. It was friday fish fry and most people in Wisconsin order that. We ordered, a baked cod meal, two fried cod meals, and a grilled chicken sandwich meal. We did not order steak or anything like that. We waited a long time and witnessed a couple order after us get their food, send back their food and leave. When we finally got our food, my wife asked for some melted butter for her baked cod meal. She was charged an extra $.50. The big takeaway we got was that we did not order the most expensive food so the hostess may have thought she was not going to get a good tip. Here is the thing though, we tip on the experience we get at a restaurant, we don't tip based on how much we spend. The fact that the experience was so terrible we should have left but we wanted to give them a chance. We live in a consumer market where experience is paramount and if the patron does not have a good experience they will not return. They may not tip the same way I do but if their experience is terrible like mine they will not come back and thus their money is not going to The Ranch it is going somewhere else. This is a fun, typical Wisconsin Supper Club. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The food was made perfect! I had the walnut bleu steak, medium and was spot on. Problem area: drinks, food, service. First, I cannot comment on the quality of the drinks because I did not receive the one I ordered with dinner nor the one I ordered after. Let me repeat... I did not receive a drink, on a Friday night, in Wisconsin, so sad. I would've asked the server for my dinner drink during dinner but she only stopped to get our plates when we were done eating (why my second attempt to order was a pour out of the bottle B&B, never came). After reading the other reviews I think I understand why she walked past our table so many times while we were eating. After 25 years of experience working in restaurants I have found that usually taking the recommendation of the server is a good bet, NOT HERE! The server recommended the ribeye. I cannot remember the last time I had such a bad steak. There was zero seasoning or sear. The 16 oz advertised size was incorrect this could not have been 11 oz. The promise of serving on a sizzler was a lie. While it was on a sizzler, said sizzler was like warm. It was not helped by an al dente potato. The baked brie was delicious. While I would not go back here I recommend, if you go, get the fish. Don't be afraid to go to the bar for a drink. Cheers! read more

A little difficult to find but worth the effort! Understated ambience but exceedingly friendly staff. We had the ribeye and fillet steak dinners. Both were done to our liking and the cuts were excellent. The house salads were unremarkable but the house dressing was very good. I had hash browns for my potato and was very satisfied with the consistency and flavor. The portions were very generous for the price and the quality. We ate here tonight. The only reason that we are not giving it 5 stars is because of the long wait between courses. The food was DELICIOUS. I got the Ribeye and my hubby got the Walleye Scampi. We would come here again and definitely recommend it. My old fashioned was perfect also. read more

This Florida boy has been to 5 supper clubs and counting. I love them all but I must say the food and service at the Ranch was way above and beyond and well worth a visit if you have not been here before. Owners Beth and Barnaby along with our fabulously, amazingly, super sweet and efficient server Julie made our 1 1/2 hour drive from Hidden Cove Resort in Phillips, WI worth every mile! Do not miss this gem of supper clubs while in the great state of Wisconsin.
