My wife and I decided to try Zoukmaya because we had tried the restaurant that was previously there and had a bad experience. So when my wife told me a new Latin restaurant had taken its place, we were eager to give it a try. Upon arriving, we could see how much had changed from the previous restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised. As we went in through the back, we continued to notice how much had changed -- it truly is a brand-new restaurant. We were sat by a young lady, and Kristi was our server. She introduced herself and told us about all of the great signature cocktails they have, then took our drink order. When Kristi came back with our drinks, we ordered the Flamin' Hot Corn, and it did not disappoint. For our entrées, my wife ordered the Seafood Rice and I ordered the Salmon Salsa Verde. Both meals were very flavorful, the presentation was also very good, and the price for everything was right where it should be for great food, a great environment, and great service. The decor was top-notch, the bathrooms were clean, and Stephanie and Anna -- I think they were managers -- were very friendly and helpful. I also loved how the menu wasn't busy like many restaurants. It was easy to find something to choose from without having to turn a million pages. Thanks, Zoukmaya and staff! Oh -- I almost forgot: after eating dinner or lunch, you can walk out back and walk through the park or sit on a bench by the lake.

My friend told me about this restaurant and I had to check it out. We came for dinner and parked in the back. There's an apartment and park next to the lake. Restaurant was beautiful from the outside but when we entered, cameras had to be ready. Bar and patio rooms were decorated, plus 2 dining rooms. The main floor and upstairs, which are open for parties and events. Food was delicious, we ordered the shrimp empanadas, chips and salsa also on the house. Carne Asada plate was huge, my aunt ordered the pulpo Maya which is the octopus, very tasty. The grilled peppers on the plates gave it a nice touch, no hot sauce needed. We got a tour of the room upstairs and found out they are sister restaurant to Mito. The esthetics were similar.

Good ambience, slow service. Good house cocktails for $7 happy hour but not apps are on discount. I ordered taco sampler with Baja fish (nice battered fish and fried taco shell), soft shell pastor (good flavor), hard shell chorizo (ok flavor and good toppings). All in all I will go back. Food is decent and drinks were well made.

Such a fantastic restaurant with great photo ops!

This restaurant was so wonderful, we had to go back to try more items on the menu! This time we had the margarita flights and they were all amazing! I had the coconut chicken salad and "wow", it was so delicious! The service was just as friendly and accommodating. The vibe was just fun and so unique! Love this place and I can't recommend it enough!!

Zoukmaya is a lively restaurant with live music sometimes they have salsa night or a saxophone player with live music. This restaurant will not disappoint from the food to the service to the ambiance. I really love this restaurant it's becoming one of my favorites for sure. The drinks are really good aesthetically pleasing and well portioned. I order a margarita flight and for dinner carna asada which the portions were also big as well. The star of the show for me is the pulpo maya if you love octopus omg this is the best octopus I've had in a long time it comes with crispy potatoes rice&beans literally chefs kiss. Another favorite for me would be the seafood rice that comes with Sautéed rice, shrimp, calamari, mussels, clam, prawn and vegetables everything is so well cooked and seasoned to perfection. I can not wait to go back

Can't wait to come here again! Stopped for a quick snack - everything was delicious; cucumber margarita, carne asada quesadilla, roasted street corn and tres leches. Reminds me of the old Chino Latino that was in Minneapolis.

Forest Lakes newest upscale Mexican restaurant that delivers fantastic food. Very busy at lunch not enough staff for all the people. Free parking behind restaurant. Two entrances one in front and back by the lake parking lot.

The chicken mole was awesome. Not really chocolaty like some places. The margarita sampler was really good too.

Combo choice- two enchiladas and one hard shell

My husband and I are local to Forest Lake, we saw this place being renovated and wanted to save our first go for a special day, well today for an early birthday celebration we finally made it! Firstly, wow this place is soo beautiful! To top off the ambiance our waitress was very friendly, attentive, and so helpful! The food; 10/10!! There were 7 of us and we were all happy with our meal of choice! My grandpa was one of those individuals and let me tell you that man never loves his meal out but.. here, LOVED IT!! We didn't do any cocktails this visit but the cocktail menu looks inviting and fun(Instagram worthy)!! If you are thinking about going, what are you waiting for? Go!! You won't be disappointed We will be back and we will be bringing other guest to spread the word on this fantastic restaurant!

Have I been here a bunch of times? Yes. Am I embarrassed? Depending on who you ask, maybe. This gem is worth a trip north of the cities. I keep coming back and waiting for them to let me down but they absolutely have not. They are firing on all cylinders and some. This place is truly one of the best restaurants in Minnesota. Put it up against other places in the state and it wins. Not even a competition. The star of the show were the drinks and the bartenders that have carefully crafted each drink. Each one is not only a spectacle but truly amazing. The food is also amazing. The staff everything is incredible. Do yourself a favor and come here. Make the drive. You won't be disappointed. My favorites- Mayan Quesadilla, Mexican Torta, and the Lobster Mac & Cheese.

One of the super fun drinks they have-and it's included in Happy hour pricing! Was delicious!

Electric atmosphere takes some getting used to but menu is pretty much standard Mexican. Good food a little pricey.

We tried entrees with chicken, steak and pork and I couldn't believe how good every kind of meat was. Whatever they marinate it in is soooo flavorful! The portion size was big and we all left really full. For the quality and portion size I think it was really reasonably priced! We went on a Saturday and it was busy, there was a line out the door. But the food was worth the wait! Most of the entrees came with a green sauce that was so good we asked for two more servings of it. Inside the restaurant it feels like you're actually in Ecuador with the colors and decorations. I'll definitely be back!

It's cozy in the main dining area when there's people, but we had attentive service. I love their sandwiches here. The clearly bilingual waitress even indulged (and gently corrected) my broken Spanish as I ordered one! They have their specials chalked up on the wall to easily see, and the kitchen is right below it. Everyone worked in sync, bussing tables and making sure folks were seated promptly. I've never had a bad meal here. Everything is so, so good. The only downside is that they ran out of the wine I ordered, so it's a testament to how wonderful their food and drink are.

Service: The service is friendly! When you arrive at the doors, there's a sign to knock but the employees are pretty good at spotting people so they will open the door to welcome you in and give you menus. You go to the register to order whenever you're ready. They do have some specials which are written on a chalkboard and the employees are able to tell you about the specials as well. Atmosphere: the restaurant was vibrant with colorful walls, and flowers on the table! It is a sit-down restaurant but fairly casual! It was well lit, and good for gathering with friends and family or coworkers! They also do to-go orders if you're not looking to dine-in! Food/drink: they have plenty of gluten free options and a couple vegetarian options. They are able to modify some of the vegetarian options to be vegan if needed. I ordered the vegetariano saltado, which was well balanced with some salty and tangy notes. It is listed as spicy on the menu but I found it to be quite mild. This was my first time having mote in a dish, which are boiled, peeled, corn kernels. They have a mild nuttiness, and a soft chewable texture which was very nice! Overall I enjoyed this dish and would order it again! The naranjilla juice was also very good! It had a tropical flavor, almost like a pineapple with orange juice flavor. I enjoyed the food overall, and thought the portions were good. Each person in my party of 3 had some leftovers remaining!! I would recommend Chimborazo to anyone interested in trying Ecuadorian food, and I will be back!

It's Taco Tuesday and I was craving Mexican food, but I didn't just wanna go to the type of place…read moreyou think of when "Mexican" is brought up... I'm fancy, so I wanted something a bit more upscale. I did a little bit of research and wouldn't you know it... Colita came up. So here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set south of downtown and a bit west of The Mall of America on Penn Avenue is this gem. There is no private parking lot, but plenty of street parking to leave your fly ride. But once you walk up to the restaurant you can immediately understand the message they're trying to send. Everything looks so modern, straightforward with straight lines, grey colors and light woods. There is a small outdoor section where you can dine if you get lucky enough to land a spot there. Inside carries a very similar style with a little nod to the pueblos and architecture of the southwest. The decor is minimalistic and the "loudest" thing in the room is the live plant wall seated directly behind the bar, which was super cool. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but we had no issues whatsoever. Food/Drink: I was able to try so many different dishes and drinks here and the list is below... : Xochitl In Love : La Clandestina : Tuna Tostada : Chicken Tinga Tostada : Seared Scallops : Tlayuda : Colita Old Fashioned : Lamb Barbacoa Tacos : Duck Tamal However, my favorite things were the Lamb Barbacoa Tacos, Duck Tamal and Seared Scallops, in that order. The food here is phenomenal, the drinks are excellently crafted and things are served tapas style so you don't get too full off of just one thing! Order a whole bunch of stuff and share with the table! Value: As I mentioned earlier, I wanted upscale and the priced dddooo reflect that. Lol. This is a nice place so be prepared to spend... Like you're downtown somewhere. In conclusion, I loved this place and I will come back over and over. Check this place out the next time you're in the area!
