We tried entrees with chicken, steak and pork and I couldn't believe how good every kind of meat was. Whatever they marinate it in is soooo flavorful! The portion size was big and we all left really full. For the quality and portion size I think it was really reasonably priced! We went on a Saturday and it was busy, there was a line out the door. But the food was worth the wait! Most of the entrees came with a green sauce that was so good we asked for two more servings of it. This is the first time we dined inside, since the snow is starting to fly. We were seated by the front door, but I didn't feel the slightest draft. It's cozy in the main dining area when there's people, but we had attentive service. I love their sandwiches here. The clearly bilingual waitress even indulged (and gently corrected) my broken Spanish as I ordered one! They have their specials chalked up on the wall to easily see, and the kitchen is right below it. Everyone worked in sync, bussing tables and making sure folks were seated promptly. It's not often you find a restaurant that nails both authenticity and atmosphere, but Chimborazo does it effortlessly. During this visit, I sampled: - "Guanabana" juice: I'm usually a big fan of guanabana, but this version didn't quite hit the sweet spot for me--it leaned a bit on the bitter side. This quaint restaurant is located on the 2800 block of Central. walking into the restuarant you are first greeted with some wonderful smell the portend to something good going into your belly. and secondly the walls are adorned with wonderful Ecuadorian images, and brightly colored walls. The food here was AMAZING, and of it on your plate. We had the Humitas. basically it was similar to cooked down creamed corn with cheese and onions...a creamed corn tamale if you will. That was one of my favorite things. We also tried the pancake with plantains and mango in it. This was also quite wonderful. You do not even need to put syrup on it. Lastly, we had the Llapingachos breakfast. Loved the potato pancakes served with roasted pork (which was a nice change to bacon/sausage). The only downside here is the service. We arrived about 11:30, and there were only a few dining parties. It took so long to place our order, and I think even longer to cash out so we could leave. I am think we were there 90 minutes, and the bulk of that was waiting for our server. Perhaps that our dining experience was an off day, but the service issue is worth mentioning. Every time I have come, I walk in and there's always been a table available without waiting. The hostess and waiters are amazing at their jobs -- fast, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and recommendations. The outdoor seating is fun to people watch and enjoy the greenery around the edges of the space. Love everything I've eaten here, and at top of my list I would highly recommend the empanadas, seco de carne (beef stew), and saltado. The patacones are impeccable and addicting! I have been to Ecuador. As a foodie. And I will say up front: This is authentic. So absolutely five stars for Chimborazo and a go-to place for you to enjoy in Minneapolis-St. Paul. We spent awhile poring over the menu and I ended up with caldo de bolas de verde (plaintain dumpling soup) and hornado con papas (pork with pancakes and corn). The food arrived quickly, as did our drinks (homemade raspberry and clementine - the clementine was outstanding on my end), and I offer the following: * Soup is authentic. Every spoonful evoked memories of Quito for me. * Pork is AMAZING. The. Most. Flavorful. I've ever had. And so moist. I don't know how they managed to make pork that puts BBQ to shame, but Chimborazo are magicians with meat. * Little llapingachos (cheese potato pancakes) that my friend and I could not stop eating. Little noms of joy. * The big-kerneled corn mote that is a South American specialty. Not quite as big as down there, but ya know what? Bigger than American corn. They sourced it from somewhere. * A delicious side of curtido to complement it all. Five stars for service. Six stars for food. Ambiance, maybe a little less. By the end of the night it was getting crowded and loud in there. Bench seats, a little on the low-scale side of things. But you know what? To locate on the corner and keep prices down like this, I would much rather you make the insides plain and invest all your money and heart and soul in the food. A+. My friends and I got there 5 minutes before the breakfast menu closed and the server was so wonderful and took our orders really quick. I got there llapingachos breakfast and it was DELICIOUS! Parking is mostly street unless you're lucky and grab a spot in the small lot. We stopped in on a Saturday right before brunch ended. Our party of three waited about 7 minutes before we were seated. Honestly the clock was ticking away before brunch officially turned into lunch. I went with a pulled pork meal that came with scrambled eggs, fruit, and pancakes. The pulled pork was good enough to come back for. Everything else was great- it's amazing how something so simple could be so flavorful. My sister got basically a shrimp curry with rice, it's her go to dish every time she comes here. I would love to make this one of our regular places. The server was friendly and helpful when we had questions and the vibes make you feel like you're at small spot where everyone knows you. This authentic Ecuadorian cuisine started out small and since they started and have expanded their space in Northeast and added a St. Paul location. They also have food trucks during the warmer weather. Our favorites are the saltado and many of their breakfast/brunch options. True definition of comfort food that satisfies all types of cravings! I have been to this place many times and almost everytime has been a good experience, especially because it opens until a bit later on weekends, which has allowed me to find food when I wasn't able to get so elsewhere. Although I have not had the churrasco yet, I have had the flank steak as a side and can guarantee its tastiness. Seco de Carne has very tender stewed beef which makes it a very tasty dish. The vegetarian sandwiches (Sánduche Vegetariano) are also very tasty because of the avocado and mayonnaise combination. I would also recommend the empanadas even if I have only tried the cheese kind, and I am sure the beef one tastes even better. However, the Saltado has always seemed to be a hit or miss depending on who gets it. I have had times when my friends didn't enjoy it at all, and I would feel the same because it was too sour, causing me to overcompensate it with rice, which has, on the contrary, made the Vegetariano Saltado a much better option for my taste. The shrimp ceviche is also slightly beyond my taste buds, as I do not enjoy the corn kernels inside, but I understand that it's most likely my own taste because I have seen the same combination in Peruvian ceviche before. Regardless of the few dishes that I don't enjoy as much, I think this place brings VALUE to the Minneapolis residents and that alone makes it a spot that people can comfortably rely on, and that's why it deserves a 5 star all the way! read more

Between three people, we shared 3 entrees-- the chicken saltado, llapingachos con chorizo, and a shrimp/scallop dish that was a daily special. All of them were amazing and worked perfectly together. Circa 2015 - but just went there in 2024, still the same as I remember it! Now, I'm not an ecuadorian myself, so the authenticity of this place relied on the waitress explaining that their staff and regular customers are ecuadorian and love this place. That said, I am known to be a very picky eater. My favorite food is Italian, and I can hardly stand Mexican food (unless it's Chipotle). Driving up to the restaurant, we had one member of our party begin to wonder if we were the bridal party about to get food sickness in Bridesmaids. However, walking into this restaurant opened my eyes to what I should've expected. It was amazing smells the minute you walk in. The staff was friendly and amazing, our waitress took care of us very, very well. I had the Guava Mimosa and Churrasco with steak and I loved it. I devoured it! Went to Chimborozo for the first time last night with my wife. My wife was very hesitant and did not want to go but it was my birthday this past week and I insisted. Our server was outstanding and told my wife not to worry, I am here to help. We started with Sangria which was fantastic and a couple empanadas. Those were so on point and delicious the salsa verde that came with put the empanadas over the top. I ordered the Lomo Saltsdo and my wife ordered the Chaulafan. Both dishes were amazing. The sauce in the Lomo Saltado is so good I was in heaven. My wife enjoyed the Chaulafan so much she stopped talking and just kept eating. For desert we had to try both the chocolate cake and tres leches. The chocolate cake was really heavy chocolate flavor and a little much for me but the tres leches cake was absolutely heavenly. I think I had a tear in my eye it was so good. My wife enjoyed the chocolate cake so we were both happy. Our waiter asked my wife at the end of our meal how did she enjoy Chimborazo? One of my favorite restaurants here in the cities. I don't have much to compare Ecuadorian cuisine to but this restaurant is fire! My go to order is Encocado which is either a Mahi Mahi or shrimp in the most delicious coconut sauce served with rice and sweet plantains. Chefs kiss! Everything I have tried has been great and they don't take reservations but have never had to wait too long for a table. First time guest for lunch. Very welcoming staff. Our server was quick to point out favorite things on the menu. My friend and host is from Ecuador so she helped with some input as well. The Yucca fries were great as were the fried plantains with Chimichurri.
