I originally tried the Brea location and wanted to give this location a try as well. I actually enjoyed my experience here more! When I went to the Brea location, I wasn't too impressed with the quality of some of the meats, but the meat selection here seemed much better. On the other hand, the seafood bar didn't look as appealing to me, so I decided to skip it this time. I definitely think there are some pros and cons depending on the location. This time, I went with the dry mix and, of course, got the mala flavor. I LOVE mala, and this definitely hit the spot! They also had a really good variety of ingredients, so I was able to get a little bit of everything without going too overboard. Since everything is priced by weight, it can get a little pricey depending on how much you grab. I'm someone who loves adding a lot of protein to my malatang, so my bowl can add up pretty quickly. I recently went to Brea Mall to try their new Tang Bar - I was ENTHUSED with how amazing the experience was. After trying the Brea location, I went home RAVING about it. When I saw on yelp that there was a Tang Bar in Rancho, I was SO excited since it is way closer to me. When arriving, the store itself was very beautiful - there was a wide selection of veggies + meat + seafood. As we reached the end of the line to pay for our food & select our broth flavor, I noticed that I was SWEATING (and I've only set foot in the store for 3-5 minutes total). That was CON #1 - if you're going to open a hot pot / MalaGuo place, you need to turn on the AIR CONDITIONING (especially when it is July in rancho & the temp is 94 degrees outside). Your poor employees must be burning up!! When the food arrived, it was delicious - BUT, then I encountered CON #2 when approaching the sauce bar. One of the main essentials for a successful hot pot place is the SAUCE. the sauce is limited with maybe 5 options? - sesame, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, and chili oil. As an Asian American who has tried her fair share of several hot pot places throughout Southern California and Asia the sauce makes or breaks the hot pot food. And let me tell you I have never gone to a hot pot place and thought, "oh my gosh I'm so excited to dip my veggies and beef and soy sauce and vinegar!" NO - the saving grace of the sauce bar was the sesame sauce. When I noticed that the sesame portion was empty, I went to the cashier and ask them if they could refill it. They notified me they had ran out?!? my goodness - at 3 PM ?! I would not want my customers only dipping their hot pot components in soy sauce or vinegar. What in the world?! Lastly, for CON #3 - I sat next to the table closest to the bathroom. Though I know they were trying to make it friendly for all customers by implementing a wheelchair ramp, it was positioned too closely to the table that every time I stood up to get a cup of water to relieve myself from the humidity and heat in the restaurant, I almost tripped each and every single time! This has to be a safety hazard!! I usually only give five stars to restaurants everywhere that I visit; however, I do believe that these negative aspects need to be addressed. I gave one star for the deliciousness of the food and freshness of the vegetables/meat + another star for the kind servers there. I'll definitely be going to the Arcadia or Brea one from now on. I also don't know how cold the food is since my bowl didn't feel as cold with the raw ingredients in it. Overall the soup was fine. I picked the chicken broth option. I also think for the price it's pretty steep. It's 14.99 a pound and although I didn't have much in my bowl picked out mine came to almost $30. It was the perfect amount of spicy and not overwhelming. It was the addictive, slightly numbing spice that makes you go back for more. My bowl came out to 29 dollars and to be honest even though it was good I don't feel like it was worth being a 29 dollar bowl. All the ingredients I got were good, but it seemed overpriced for what I got. When we got there the restaurant was empty and so our food came out pretty quick! The staff was nice, though we didn't have much interaction with them. The interior is very pretty, clean, and has a very zen vibe. There's also an option to sit outdoors. Happy to find a malatang place in the Inland Empire, because I was craving for it! This place is a new restaurant that opened up within Victoria Gardens. Luckily it is not located far from a parking structure so it is very convenient to go there. It is not a big space, but they have a nice long table for people to gather around. Inside, the restaurant provides you a bowl and there are many choices from meat (including wagyu), seafood, tofu, vegetables, and noodles that you can select like a buffet. I like that they are mindful to mention any gluten-free items. I got the savory mix for spicy & sweet to go, and it was delicious with the right amount of spice flavor. Cost was the only downside to this place since it is a little bit pricey, but it might have been myself since I didn't pay attention to how much I was putting in my bowl since it is $15.99/lb. Service was really nice when you checkout and hand them your bowl. They will ask you how you want your food to be cooked and it took about 10 minutes for me on a weekday lunch time around 12pm to receive it. Excitedly came here with my family. We shouldn't have been in a rush, Tang Bar has a lot of kinks to iron out. The Szechuan soup broth is almost entirely oil. It reminded me of the cooking oil that they serve you at hotpot. My entire family had a stomachache after eating so much of it. Service was respectful but needs improvement. Our orders were messed up. My sister ordered a stir fry and was given the soup. I do like that the owner reached out to us and asked us about our experience. In the end we got to try a stir fry altogether, but it didn't really make up for the bad experience. I'm not sure that I would come back. One thing I really didn't appreciate was the hygiene practices in the restaurant. First, it didn't really seem sanitary to have people use their tongs to grab meat and then other things. I watched several people use their tongs to grab things like noodles and vegetables and then put them back, after having previously grabbed pork, beef, or seafood. That is a very obvious way to cross contaminate. I hope Tang Bar improves. I wanted it to be good so bad! read more

Food at this place is a three star in my heart but I don't want their reviews to sink even lower and I hope they can improve in the future. What made me gave them one extra star is their good service and nice interior arrangement. So the downside I see, not sure if it's because I went so early today, as soon as they open, most of their ingredients that froze together has not yet been defrosted completely, it's okay with seafood, but not okay if it's sliced meat, they chose to use the thicker slice on beef, when you boil frozen beef slice, they became tough to eat, like really tough. I saw one of the staff also trying to break apart a big chunk of squid that was froze together. They don't have a sauce bar nor a coriander corner, so I don't see the normal combination of minced garlic, green onions or cilantro, only a small bottle of soy sauce and black vinegar. You can ask for a dipping sauce, they have chili oil or sesame sauce. I asked for the sesame sauce, it was okay. But again, very odd a malatang place has no self serve sauce area. For soup base, I ordered chicken broth, it's decent imo. I wanted something light without too much oil, it worked for me. Will I return again soon? Maybe if I'm at Victoria garden and really wanted some malatang, but I'm not in a hurry. read more

The look is very nice however it allowed a lot of flying insects including flys inside the restaurant. They have a large variety of meat and seafood choices and the veggies are fresh. The soup base choices are also different from other similar restaurants. I chose the hot and sour soup base, while I asked for less spicy, I don't think it actually made any difference, because it was still really spicy. Thankfully we asked but the only broth they offer without pork is the vegan mushroom broth. We wish there were other options without pork, but that wasn't the case. I would prefer the inners (tripes, stomach and etc) to be cut into smaller/thinner pieces . The decor is refreshing and bright, nice large shared table, I think for younger people who want to mingle may seem good, though I waited to have the private table along the window to sit instead of sitting in the center shared table area. I guess I'm old school prefer not to sit in front of strangers to slurp my food lol.
