All in all, it took about four months...and the communication during that time was a little spotty. But Keith was super apologetic and tried his best to get things done as quickly as he could. I visited this unassuming "designer resale shop" on a walk with my coworker. I otherwise would have…read moremissed it along Northwestern Highway. Finding the front door locked, I figured they were headed to lunch. My mistake: it's just a security precaution to protect their valuable vintage or gently used designer stock. The front half the shop carries new, last run items like TJ Maxx or Marshall's. Word of advice: save yourself the trouble and go to TJ. Customers who believe these labels are designer have never visited the Somerset Collection or skimmed through a fashion magazine. The brands were largely unrecognizable to me, even after a surreptitious Google search on my phone. No haute couture or midrange couture here. I saw plenty of labels with "Made in Indonesia" and "Product of China" to complement the astonishingly high price tags. A loosely knit synthetic shirt was $110, closer to $20 at Target or $30 at another boutique. Used items make up about a third of the stock. They had shoes, evening wear, and an impressive collection of fur coats with equally spendy price tags. Suffering a case of acute sticker shock ($1000 for a dress by St. John's evening wear! Really?), I didn't see much that suited a woman under the age of 55. Most of what they carry makes Chico's look like Forever 21. What you see as a price is not what you get. The salespeople were knocking off 30% here, 40% there, 5% for this and 5% for that. I couldn't get a real gauge on what something cost easily because the price tags disagreed with the signs and the verbal quotes. You need a Google spreadsheet just to keep up! I wonder if haggling or bartering is en vogue here. At the end of the day, my coworker and I walked out empty-handed with a rather sour taste in our mouths from the outrageous markup, the dated clothes, and the rather dim quality for the asking price. You can do a lot better than this, and Detroit doesn't lack for excellent vintage shops and consignment stores catering to every price point and age.

I am not a fan of boutiques, preferring the convenience of shopping a mall so I can comparison shop. I enjoyed the decor of the boutique, the friendly staff, and the prices. True, some items are pricey, but isn't that the truth everywhere? You can find great bargains, as well as not running into someone with the exact same outfit as you would had you visited a mall. I have been back to the boutique several times and am more than satisfied with my purchases. Chicos, TJ Maxx are not in the same league with Deja New. Quality items, funky, retro jewelry, great staff make browsing and shopping a pleasure. There is no pressure to purchase, an offer of tea goes along with the smiles and laughter. A trip to Deja New is like visiting a friend and catching up. Clothing is for women of all ages who want to look chic, bohemian, casual or dressed to impress. I highly recommend Deja New for the woman who knows what she is all about. Confident and self-assured.

Even if the industry standard now, I expect more from them as a Detroit Metro native. === Here is the alleged Shinola "Guarantee" in pictures. Sent a pre-auth form with picture requesting repair. They approved it as repairable and asked me to ship it at my expense. Weeks later, they said they would send it out of state to an expert for a 6-8 week repair. Then without further messaging, UPS returns it with a "Not Serviced" notice. The clearly outsourced Customer Service rep's response to costing me $15 in shipping for nothing? A 10% discount on my next purchase. The cobbler down the street ended up fixing it for $15. I hope this review does not cost Shinola much more than the $15 I wasted sending it to them. I hope so because I'm not vindictive. It would be a shame if a deceptive, flawed customer service procedure managed to DISGRACE and tarnish the image of Detroit further through DISGUSTING business practices. Hopefully, the 10% discount offer I will never use makes up for it.

I wasn't totally sure what I wanted when I walked in the door. I had visited a few other stores in hoping to find what I was looking for with no luck. At first, I was a little put off and hesitant from a bad experience a different pawnshop. But, after I walked into the door and was greeted by the friendly staff that was a game changer, my comfort level rose immediately. They also have a rewards card you earn points every time you pawn an item that you can later use toward a purchase in the store. What a great way to build customer loyalty. 5/12/16 I bought a portable Western Digital Mac Hard Drive go $45. I went to a Wendy's down the…read moreroad, pulled out my laptop, and connected the hard drive. The hard drive didn't work. I called the store and told them. They asked me to bring it back so they could test it. I returned to the store 20 minutes after purchasing it. They tested it for ten minutes, then asked me if I wanted to exchange it for something else. I said, "No. There are no other hard drives here." They asked for the card I used so they could refund the credit, which I gave them. Then they gave me a receipt that says "Debit Refund $45". I took it and walked out of the store. After watching my account for the past 5 days, I see that my refund hasn't posted. I retrieved my receipts (both the original and the refund) and I see that at the bottom of the refund receipt, it says, "UNAUTH TRANS" and the date on the refund receipt says 12/10/12. Is that shady or what? I'm going to call them to complain as soon as they open today.

I feel like this place tends to be for the more rugged and out-doorsy folks, which I am not. But I always manage to find a great sweater or two in merino wool, cashmere or a mix of fabrics. I spent some time browsing around in the men's section. I ended up finding a one piece jacket/shirt hybrid. Orvis brand. One of the staff members had the same shirt and he said it was great shirt and he loved it. He said it's super versatile and warm and has a lot of added features that my stepdad would like. I was sold. Was about $170. The entire staff is an A team of helpful, patient and informative peeps. Each will go above and beyond to make your experience great here. I didn't realize I was in the store after hours. There were still four staff members that had stayed on to help me out until the end. They didn't rush me out or make me feel bad about keeping them at all. I did thank them for staying a little extra. They said they had stuff to finish up still, so staying was no biggie. I took a little extra time to try on their barbour jackets, as these require a bit more time in selecting the perfect color, style and fit for a jacket. The wax jackets are around $420. It was great since I was able to do 1-stop shop for my parents tonight. Found two cashmere sweaters for my mother and two sweater/jackets for my stepfather. Their Christmas gifts are done. I was able to find two cashmere sweaters, one cable knitted for myself, a black barbour waxed jacket and a inner vest lining for it. A successful trip and put a good dent in wallet too. I was told the Barbour jackets are great and durable and lovable for many years to come. I so love the smell of their frasier fir candles here. I buy some every year from here.
