I've been a customer of SAB Hair Studio multiple times, spending a considerable amount of money with them, and was hoping to continue building that relationship. However, my recent experience has been incredibly disappointing. I've reached out multiple times via email and messages, trying to book an appointment and inquire about availability, but I haven't received a single response despite several follow-ups. For a business that I've been loyal to and have spent a lot of money with, this lack of communication is truly egregious. It's frustrating, rude and unprofessional to be ignored in this way, especially when I had intended to return. After this experience, I've decided I will no longer have anything to do with this salon and I will never recommend this salon to others.

Then I was told that the May 21st slot was taken. I requested my $25.00 back and surprise - no response. Another Black owned business that takes advantage of other Black customers. This was really poor business practice guys. If the May 21st appointment wasn't available then say it. Instead it feels that you're hard up for $25.00.

And now I can say: Finally a place in Montclair where my curls can thrive! Tricia, the owner, was extremely accommodating and kind giving me several options. I am a new mom to two with a tight schedule. My stylist Gennifer took great care-- explaining what she was doing and teaching me along the way. She gave helpful tips for some wild knots I explained I had been having (post partum hair is a struggle). She did a special moisturizing treatment and my hair is so soft from the treatment she did. You can tell she knows what she's doing, has great experience, and is up to date on her knowledge. She is also Rëzo trained! I had the best experience with Gennifer. Another note- the salon itself is relaxing and beautifully decorated. It has clothes that I wish I had the time to try on after my cut! I can guarantee you I'll be back for a cut and to check out the clothing items. Love the service, ambiance, and the end result of my hair. Thank you Haus of Highlights team!!

In…read moreaddition, I'm used to the bargain salons that offer a quick cut at an equally quick price...so stepping into Pure Energy was a real treat. And let me tell you, Pure Energy has really set the bar high. I never understood how getting services done at a salon could be self care, as opposed to just maintenance, but now I know. First of all, the salon is gorgeous. This location is new (the salon relocated about a year ago), and everything looks clean, fresh, and modern. The whole vibe of the place - from the black pleather chairs, floor length mirrors, to the sink area, and even the Aveda merchandise - all exude luxury. If you want to feel like you're getting the spa experience while getting hair services, this salon is definitely for you. The stylists and employees are also wonderful. You can tell that they truly care for their customers. While I was there, I could tell that some clients had established relationships with the stylists just by how they were chit-chatting - and for those that didn't have such a relationship, those clients were still treated with respect and warmth. (I was there for a color service, so I was sitting quite awhile, and able to observe the genuine interactions!) I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Jen. She truly believes in her business, and her passion can be seen even as she is walking around her salon. Mario and Amanda took great care of me while I was there. It's going to be tough to go back to bargain salons after experience the true wonders of a luxury salon such as Pure Energy. If you want to treat yourself, don't hesitate to come here. I used to be one of Tamara's regular clients (love love LOVE her!), but when she left, I decided to continue coming to get my hair done by the owner named Nadine. Long story short - Nadine and her current staff are very personable and do great work, but I have to deduct stars from my previously perfect 5-star review because she charged me DOUBLE what I used to pay Tamara...for the same salon and services, just a different stylist. I've been a loyal customer for years and I chose to continue coming even after Tamara left, so for Nadine to charge me double without the courtesy of telling me beforehand doesn't seem right. I'm unaware if Tamara was giving me a discount while she worked here, but if she was, Nadine could've at least notified me of the price change when I made my appointment with her. If she did, I would've considered changing the services I was getting done (pass on the deep conditioning/hair mask, get my color done there but go elsewhere for a cheaper haircut or vice versa, etc.). As much as I love how my hair looks when I get it done here, I think I'll be going elsewhere from now on where I won't feel jipped.

For starters I was in an emergency situation and thankfully they could squeeze me in as a first timer and make my emergency less of the nightmare I imagined. Felt like a real miracle moment and I thought the owner handled my call effectively. Her admin was not so knowledgeable to help tend to me over the phone but thankfully the owner felt the need to take over the call. She decided to FaceTime me to see my state of emergency and assess (smart & effective on her part) & determine viability. I was able to go in, and she relaxed me by assuring they could handle my seemingly worst hair emergency. Now, the bad news is I paid $125 for my braids to start unraveling day 4. As she was braiding I was wondering if her straight-back method was the right method for how she'd cut my hair. Yet her confidence claimed I'd need to keep the braids for 2-3weeks then return for a refresh. They didn't even make it 1 week! Then, I call to address it & an admin or stylist says they don't do what I'm asking and essentially that was the only way the stylist could do my hair. I so hated the lack of concern for my hair and money, along with the brevity. I thought I was leaving with a new salon home. It was so free of dust, clean, & pretty. But, not sure it's going to satisfy my need. I still recommend though.
