Disclaimer: I don't post poor reviews lightly. My last hair appointment here was in August so I've been sitting on this review for a while, but I really felt that this update needed to be posted. I used to be one of Tamara's regular clients (love love LOVE her!), but when she left, I decided to continue coming to get my hair done by the owner named Nadine. Long story short - Nadine and her current staff are very personable and do great work, but I have to deduct stars from my previously perfect 5-star review because she charged me DOUBLE what I used to pay Tamara...for the same salon and services, just a different stylist. I've been a loyal customer for years and I chose to continue coming even after Tamara left, so for Nadine to charge me double without the courtesy of telling me beforehand doesn't seem right. I'm unaware if Tamara was giving me a discount while she worked here, but if she was, Nadine could've at least notified me of the price change when I made my appointment with her. If she did, I would've considered changing the services I was getting done (pass on the deep conditioning/hair mask, get my color done there but go elsewhere for a cheaper haircut or vice versa, etc.). As much as I love how my hair looks when I get it done here, I think I'll be going elsewhere from now on where I won't feel jipped. read more

I dealt with the manager, Taneshah, directly. I came in for a keratin treatment, shampoo, and a cut. I will definitely be revisiting this place soon. Place is very clean with extremely friendly staff and management that went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. I am a cancer survivor and get sensitive when it comes to cutting my hair or doing anything to my hair. I posted before and after photos so you can see what the keratin treatment really does to the hair. My hair is extremely thick and it took about four to five hours to do with the help of three people but it was amazing. The manager Taneshah was truly amazing. Ownership should feel comfortable and confident in her ability to operate their business when they are not there. I found this place out of random while driving down bloomfield Avenue and decided I needed a hair trim. When you walk in you can tell that the hair salon is not really well kept. There is dust in the corners and each pod has hair supplies not well arranged. My hairstylist had a blow dryer that was kept together with tape. And the hair sink was not comfortable to sit on. It would be nice to have the Hair menu posted well. I had to ask how much a haircut was since it was not listed. As far as my haircut is concerned I do like how it was cut since I only needed a trim and my hairstylist was very easy to work with and gave me exactly what I needed. read more

Discovered this amazing place through Groupon. I bought the package that included full highlights, wash, keratin deep conditioning treatment with the optional haircut. I decided to go with the full highlights because the Groupon was only two dollars more than the partial highlights package. Boy, am I glad I did!! Nadine did an amazing job, I felt like a new person after I left. The highlights look incredible, I love them. She also took the time to listen to what I wanted from my haircut and followed it to a T. Also, I told hem in advance that I was on a strict time table due to a meeting and they absolutely had me out of there in time while still doing a wonderful job on my hair. I am the most sensitive person when it comes to my hair- it's thin and takes forever to grow in length.. Nadine made me feel very comfortable asking what I want to do and what will be good for my hair. I did partial highlights, keratin conditioning and haircut. And hair came out really nice. Tried highlights for the first time and it looks really nice. My friends gave me really great compliments( they are very upfront about their opinion ;) ).. Good price, very clean, staff is very nice and made sure I am comfortable. She blow dried and feeing awesome with the new hair style.. :) The only thing I felt different is the deep conditioning, in past I always had to be in that huge Helmet kind of machine but here I didn't have to. Hey everyone, I am not a person to write a review, but after my experience at this place I really really wanted to. I went in to the salon to get an ombré for summer, which I brought a picture of EXACTLY what I wanted, and was assured many times that they could make it happen for me. Nadine told me there was a process because I had box dye on my hair, which I understood. Still promising my desired results I agreed to pay $325 for everything she needed to do in order to get me there. Nadine and Tamara were both very nice the entire time. The whole process took 8 hours, which was a little insane, but I was okay with that. Then I got my hair blown dry and realized that my top of my head was red, not brown, and I had foil lines. The ombré was also so drastic compared to the picture and the colors did not match the picture AT ALL. My ends were fried at this point so I had Tamara trim some of them. It was 10pm so I decided to pay and go home and come back next week to fix the foil lines. When I got home I realized how awful my hair actually looked. Guys, I am not a cryer when it comes to this stuff, but I cried so much after spending $425 with tip and being there for 8 hours while my husband waited for me at home. I will upload pics at the end. We went back (my husband and I) to get a refund so I could get my hair fixed at another salon since I was so upset that I had been assured throughout the entire process my expected results. Nadine refused to admit that my hair looked nothing like the picture and for the first twenty minutes of conversation refuses to give me a refund. It wasn't until my husband intervened and talked to both Tamara and Nadine that they agreed to give us $200 back because it "wasn't worth the argument." It's a shame because they really were nice through out the process, but I paid for my hair to look like a certain thing and it just wasn't provided by their service. I was taken back by how unprofessional the conversation was when I expressed my dissatisfaction. Hopefully you take this seriously because I had to spend another 100$ at SUPERCUTS! For them to fix my hair and the color girl at the SUPERCUTS in Mahwah did a wonderful job (I was shocked). I will post both allure pics and SUPERCUTS pics. Thanks for reading. I've had several keratins over the years and all have left my hair frizz-free for months. After my first shampoo (4 days after the treatment), my hair is frizzy. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a smile, shampooed and conditioned professionally, and asked several times if I would like coffee and/or water. Allure had me feeling welcomed. When the time came for me to get my keratin treatment done, the stylist was very social, professional and easy to talk to. The reason why I couldn't give this salon a 5 star rating was because I don't think my keratin treatment was done well. I was charged extra for the longer length of my hair, which I expected to happen, but the additional cost is meant to offset the increase in the amount of keratin product to be used on the hair. She then asked me if I wanted a haircut as well, as it is part of the Groupon deal. I said yes, and told her I was only looking for a trim. The stylist proceeded to treat my hair but was very sparing on the amount of product used, only applying the product to the top 1/3 of my head and not the bottom 2/3. After she was done flat-ironing my hair, she reminded me to wait 3 days before shampooing and that if I could tolerate longer, that would he better. I paid and I was sent on my way. I didn't end up getting that haircut I was promised. So I waited 4 days; without shampooing, tying my hair back, or getting it wet. After shampooing with a high end sulfate-free, color-safe shampoo, my hair is pretty frizz-free on the top 1/3 of my hair, but not the bottom 2/3. One hundred fifty dollars later, I still need another keratin treatment, but not from this salon. read more

Nadine and Tamarah always listen to what I want and make expert recommendations based on what's healthiest for my hair and how it will react to the various products. They make an effort to make sure I am always satisfied when I leave. Nadine has come in early, stayed late, and accommodated my schedule even when she's been ill. I came here recently after purchasing a groupon for a cut, style, and blowout and had one of the best haircuts of my life. I was in and out of the salon in 40 minutes which is pretty miraculous considering I had a good seven inches chopped off. I felt scammed, I saw the Groupon promo (highlights, keratin treatment, cut and blow dry $70) I called before to make sure and made an appointment and they told me not to purchase the Groupon that they will do the same deal. Once I sat the owner told me that "because of my hair volume it was going to be $170. I said no, "then do partial highlights only", but she told me that since my highlights where made with color, it was going to be more expensive than bleach. However, since the partial was $58 I tought a little more. When she finished the highlights color was totally messed up, instead of blond as I used to do it, they came our copper when I asked her why she said "yes, it's a chocolate that we use and it looks like red on you" really??? Chocolate? Why? My old highlights were blond!! (Keratin conditioning a big lie. That was just regular conditioner) when it comes to pay they wanted to charge me $130. Why? Full head was $70, partial was$ 58, why the difference? Well they decided that it was$ 50 plus $80 Groupon and I had to look on my phone that Groupon was $58, so finally they decided to charge me $108 for something that I'm not happy with. But the worst is that they tried to scam the deal until the last minute and so they did. First and last time. read more

Found this place on Groupon. Had my first keratin treatment here and it was a great experience. Very professional and informative, gave me great tips on how to maintain the treatment. Definitely plan on going back here for my next treatment. However, I would have loved to have seen some before and after pictures prior to the process. Also, ended up paying much more due to the fact that I upgraded to a stronger formula, plus she charged me an additional $40 for the amount of hair I have and an additional fee for a haircut. read more

I found a living social deal for this local salon and decided to try it out to obtain a new look for the new year. I made the appointment a week ago and informed the receptionist of my living social deal at that time. The deal covered highlights and a blowout. I walked in and the woman at the front desk redeemed my deal then proceeded to sit me down. She started feeling through my hair, while telling me that I needed a haircut and that I need to take better care of my hair because it's damaged. I was offended but I let it slide. She then said that she'd have to charge me $30 extra for the services because of the texture and length. She said this was noted as part of the original purchase agreement, which I do not believe for a moment. I read through the entire deal before purchasing it and didn't see anything related to a potential upcharge for "type" of hair. I told her I'm not paying the extra money. I asked for my options and she said she would only do the highlights for what I paid. I told her I wanted a full refund. She said I had to go through living social. Not only was the staff rude but I cannot believe I had to waste my time going there on NYE. I do NOT recommend this place. If you're looking for a good salon in Montclair, go to Moxie. I called ahead and asked if they only did "shoulder length" for a Groupon for keratin that I had seen. They said no, and when I explained my hair was told it would be "about $60 more". That's fine. I have a lot of hair. So I figured 60, even $80 would have been just fine. I show up and Nadine looks at my hair and goes "oh wow. This is going to be double..." DOUBLE. I should have been told over the phone "it could be as much as double", I would have never bothered. Since I had just driven a half hour for the appointment where they said they would honor the Groupon in the salon, I agreed to it. I have never had keratin before and was told "oh it will cut dry time in half!" And "it will remove about 20% of the curl!" I feel as though neither bit of information is correct. I spent $238 on what feels like absolutely nothing. I'm sitting here taking a break from drying (for the last 45 minutes) to write this. I feel like such an idiot for allowing this to happen. I feel like they thought I was an idiot. I feel like I was shamed for having long hair. Also, the blow out was one of the most painful blowouts I have ever had. I have never been burned so much. There is no excuse for any of this. They should be ashamed to be charging that amount for such a simple process. And don't even give me the whole "oh well the keratin costs this much to begin with...", there is no way you pay $500 for a bottle of this stuff. And if you do, you're getting ripped off, too. read more

This was my second time coming to Allure Salon for a Keratin treatment. I came initially with a Groupon. The owner let me have the Keratin treatment for the price I paid the first time which I thought was very nice. The staff are very friendly and professional. The product the salon uses for the Keratin treatment is proably the best I've had. I'm a redhead and when I've had Keratin in the past my hair always turned orange. Horrible. Horrible on all aspects regarding this experience. Purchased a Groupon for a keratin treatment. Actual treatment at salon was fine (minus the broken air conditioner, stark and broken furniture, and hair ALL over the floor). Fast forward 2 weeks later, after a wash with keratin safe products and the 4 day wait period, my hair was still frizzy and wavy. I called the salon to discuss and was told by the receptionist that, "oh, you probably didn't get the stronger keratin treatment.". I was never told I even had the option to get a stronger treatment, yet I was up-charged $40. the day of my treatment for having "thicker hair". Shouldn't that have helped my hair to take to the treatment? When I stopped in to the salon to speak to Nadine, the stylist who treated my hair, I was told she was with a client and she will be with me "in a few minutes". She proceeded to walk by me and start with a new client while I waited for 45 minutes without even an acknowledgement. (While she was working on my hair, she excused herself several times to answer the phone and tend to other things so I was surprised she couldn't take a few minutes to speak with me before she began with a new client.) All I wanted was for her to look at my hair and see if we could redo it. She was VERY unprofessional and after that experience, I wouldn't even go back for a FIX. BEWARE of this place! P.S. 2 weeks later the A.C. still wasn't working. read more

I purchased a groupon for this salon for a combo package of haircut, partial highlights, and keratin treatment. I made an appointment and asked if I can supplement the haircut with touching up my roots instead, I was told they can do a price adjustment. I made the appointment in advance and took time off work to get this done. I missed the phone call the day before from the salon asking for a reschedule because the stylist was out. I showed up for my appointment at 10 and the salon was still closed. I waited for the salon to open. Once it was open the manager told me the stylist called out. Since I took the day off I asked if someone else can please do it. The manager seemed very frustrated with me since the beginning and it made me feel very uncomfortable. She begrudgingly said she would do it and although I was uncomfortable I took the day off so I needed to have this done. The highlights were great however she never covered my roots. She left spots of gray all over and I believe its because she really just didn't want to do my hair. She also never gave me the keratin treatment and when I asked she told me she did. I know it was a lie because I've had this treatment several times before. She rinsed my hair and put conditioner and rinsed it right out and indicated that was the keratin treatment. She never left it in my hair. Fine, we continue on. I go to pay and they want to charge me $60 for the roots. Why? First, it was very spotty and I still had grays everywhere (another stylist had to fix this at another salon) and I never got the haircut and was told I'd have some sort of price adjustment. It was overall a very bad experience. While I understand I did miss the phone call the day before I'm still a new customer and I still believe I should have been treated better than this. Montclair has many wonderful salons with great stylist such as Antonia at Vanity Salon or Mike at Moxie. I'll stick with them. read more

Found a nice deal on Groupon, and went in for full highlights and a keratin treatment. I also have very very curly hair, which seems to be an issue for many stylists, even giving me highlights. Well- the entire experience was above and beyond!! I was immediately greeted and felt very at ease, everyone working there made an effort to say hello (but not in an aggressive way). They were on time, and asked what I wanted for my highlights. In the past my highlights seem everything from zebra striped, to not close enough to the scalp, to too orange etc. Well Nadia told me with total confidence her specialty was highlights and we could absolutely get what I was looking for. While she worked I enjoyed the atmosphere, magazines and bottled water they provided. I had parked 2 blocks away at a 1 hour parking spot, and when my alarm buzzed to put more $ in, Nadia went out and did it for me! Didn't even ask for quarters (it's these little things!!). Anika assisted with washing my hair and putting in the keratin and was so nice- really everyone was:) When I got back to my chair and looked in the mirror, I could already tell my hair looked FANTASTIC. The color was perfect!! Better than salons in Manhattan where I've paid waaaay too much. She dried my hair, and seriously, it was perfect. I will be back, I will refer my friends and I recommend to anyone!! read more
