Pushkas - A white bowl contains round, fried Indian snacks garnished with cheese, herbs, and sauces, with a spoon inside.

What fun place for lunch. Right in Newtown center, its a great place to enjoy a meal with friends. We sat outside on their veranda seating which was lovely this time of year. Its a very clean restaurant with very kind staff. The food is great - highly recommend the momos, pushkas and lamb chops! Make sure you mention that you want mild food if you arent a huge fan of spicy food. There is a small amount of parking spots out front.

Chili Garlic veg fried rice- MUST ORDER - A serving of vegetable fried rice with peas, carrots, and green onions on a white plate in a restaurant setting.

Beautiful establishment with a contemporary charm on the outside as well as in. They also had a very unique and wonderful assortment of mocktails. We recommend getting the Adarak Pine (ginger/lime/pineapple) if you want a refreshing sipper before your food starts coming out. Great attentive service by anyone that walked by the table. We were seated near the kitchen window so we could see orders come out with zest. This was a blessing and a curse. Blessing because we could preview dishes while we were ordering but curse because after ordering, every time something came to the window, we hoped it was ours! For starters, we had the puchkas (pani puri)- which were pleasant and presented very well, but the addition of yogurt inside made these soggy really fast. This may have been the only critique (taste-wise) we could offer for any dish we ordered. We also had the Lasooni Gobi (crispy cauliflower in a chili/garlic sauce) - GET THESE. They were perfectly crisp with the right amount of sauce (not drenched, just lightly coated). For entrées we had the Shahi Paneer which we enjoyed as it was not on the sweet side (we are savory fans). We also had the mixed vegetable dish and were excited to learn the sauce for that was not like the one in the paneer dish. The star of the dinner, however, was the Indo-Chinese Chili Garlic vegetable fried rice (no egg). I could have been satisfied with just that alone. Nicely spiced and lots of flavor pop! For breads - Garlic Naan and Tandoori Roti. The naan was served the way it should be- just cut in half and (not chopped in qtrs while served in basket to get soggy). The Tandoori Roti was drenched in butter though we asked for none on this, but the staff was happy and quick to replace this. We did try a dessert as well - a Tres Leches cake with an Indian twist (lots of saffron)- and while this satisfied our sweet tooth, some things should just be left alone Overall, a great dining experience

It's all about the spices. I love Indian food and finally I got to try their "thali" at Tamarind in Newtown. If you are wondering what is thali? Well, it's assortment of different dishes in a big platter. We tried their vegetarian thali (Jalapeno Samosa, Rasama Soup, Paneer Kadai, Vegetable Special, Yellow Dal, Basmati Rice, Choice of Roti or Butter Naan, Housemade Yogurt, Pickles and Papads, Gulab Jamun) and non vegetarian thali (Ghost Chili Chicken Tikka, Rasama Soup, Chicken Tikka Masala or Goat Curry, Vegetable Special, Yellow Dal, Basmati Ric and Choice of Roti or Butter Naan, Housemade Yogurt, Pickles and Papads, Gulab Jamun). I loved the assortment of different dishes that were bursting with different flavors and spices. The portion size was very generous. They have ample of parking and the service was excellent! Love the beautiful ambiance. I will definitely be going back again!

The food was full of flavors!! The consistency of the sauces was just right. The service was fast and friendly server! I loved the interior decor. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and eggplant curry to share with friends. We got rice and roti with it. We also got a bunch of apps to try, lasooni gobi, vegetable mughani, puchka, and samosas. All the appetizers were delicious. It was a great experience and this restaurant is a grey addition to Newtown! I will definitely be coming back. IG: shetravels2eat

Tasty order of garlic naan. In between was regular naan.

Very good Indian food. Lunch special was pretty basic but nice to have a three course meal with app, entree and dessert. Dessert was just ok as I've had better in the city. But this is a great place in Newtown so go here if you are craving delicious food.

Expanding on a restaurant of the same name that had opened two years before in Wappinger Falls, New York, this location unveiled April 2022 with executive chef Manoj Singh. The Newtown restaurant is located right next to the famous flagpole that marks the center of the town, in a recently renovated nineteenth century wooden building that for decades housed Newtown's A & P grocery store. Tamarind offers lunch and dinner menus, with two prix fixe ($15 or $18 for two courses, $18 or $27 for three courses) lunch menus (the higher priced of the two offering a wider selection) that can be helpful when budgeting for large parties or frugal explorations of menu items. Orders can be scheduled to be prepared for a specific pick up time via Tamarind's online order link. In addition, you can note your preferred level of spice for each individual item. I started with Gobi Lasooni as appetizer as it's noted to be one of the chef's favorite dishes and appeared to be the same dish known as "Cauliflower 65" that brings me back to Rasa in East Greenwich, Rhode Island whenever I'm in vicinity. Gobi means cauliflower. The Southern Indian dish was apparently initially conceived as a chicken dish by the chef at Hotel Buhari in 1965 (hence popularly named 65) and later expanded to include same technique as a cauliflower snack. Like the original chicken-based version, cauliflower is battered, fried and then bathed in a vibrant red garlic-infused (Lasooni) sauce, offering great texture and flavor contrast in each bite. Lasooni Palak Paneer -- cubes of cheese encased in fragrant garlic-infused creamed spinach -- and Garlic Naan contributed to heavy scent and taste of garlic in this first meal. The density of cheese cubes was very high compared to what I've typically seen elsewhere. So too the size of the Naan. This time I ordered take out via Tamarind's link. You can specify pick up time. The order was ready at the scheduled time and nicely packed. I look forward to prix fixe lunch at the future patio dining area this summer.

I've been eating here since they opened. Today was a couple firsts....ordered the salmon salad and take out. I'm here to say the quality of their take out is as good as eating in. The salmon was packed with flavor and the salad was dressed nicely. I do prefer eating on site because of the experience and service. But good to know that take out is a great, and reasonable, option when I can't.

We were craving for some delicious Indian food, and decided to try this restaurant out. I'm so glad we went here, the food was incredible and my stomach is so fully and happy!!! Ghost chili chicken murgh- wow wow wow. I'm still dreaming about this tasty appetizer dish. The masala flavors really shined. The chicken was well cooked and it was very moist. Gosht dum biriyani- okay guys if you like goat biriyani please please get this! The meat and rice ratio was perfect. The goat was cooked so well, and there was a good heat to the dish. (It looked and smelled so good, we forgot to take a picture before jumping in) Chicken tikka masala- we got the lunch portion, but it was perfect for 1 person lunch. It was served with two huge portions of naan (bread). The naan was super fluffy on the inside and very crispy on the outside, just what you'd expect. We went for a late lunch, and it was bustling during that time. The servers were very attentive and kind. They would come around to make sure the dishes were good, and we were okay. There's a outdoor patio seating with a covering that looks super cute.

5 stars for everything with the exception of the momos which we would have given a 3- hard over fried. Great staff and delicious curries. Will be back for sure.

Do they sell wine? If no, can we bring in a bottle?
