Bhindi Masala, Goat Biryani, Tikka Sauce, Basmati Rice

My wife and I dined at Tikka Masala in Newtown last night (Saturday) and were genuinely impressed. We used to frequent the previous Indian restaurant at this location, and while we had fond memories there, this new and vastly improved iteration completely exceeded expectations. New owners, new attitudes, new flavors! First impression was it was spotlessly clean, warmly decorated, and inviting. The refreshed interior is modern but cozy, with thoughtful lighting and updated décor that immediately makes you feel welcome. We ordered the Bindi Masala, Goat Curry, Butter Naan, and two Mango Lassis. Every dish was excellent: The bindi (okra) was fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor--neither greasy nor over-spiced. The goat curry was rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful. Naan was warm, buttery, and beautifully crisped on the edges--perfect for scooping up all that delicious sauce. The mango lassis were cold, creamy, and refreshing--just what we needed to round out the spice and heat. Spice levels were customized exactly to our preferences. Portions were generous, and prices were very reasonable for the quality. Service was outstanding--friendly, attentive, and truly hospitable. Our server checked in often without hovering and made sure every detail of our meal met expectations. Beyond our table, we noticed other guests were clearly enjoying their meals, too. The restaurant had a welcoming, happy energy, and it's obvious that this team cares deeply about the guest experience. The menu is quite diverse--lots of vegetarian and meat options, plus appetizers, soups, Indo-Chinese dishes, tandoori, biryani, and more. You'll definitely find something to love. Tikka Masala is a gem. This place has completely won us over, and we'll absolutely be back again soon. Highly recommended. Newtown finally has a top-tier Indian restaurant.

This restaurant use to be Kolam which quite honestly had gotten tired. New owners here. Looks like a family run business. staff is very friendly and wants to please though some of the younger ones working there are still learning and getting their feet under them. In fact I would say that was the common theme of the night. Food dishes were mixed. Some items were good others not the best. Now some may just be their take on certain dishes but the saag paneer was more a like a spinach soup than what I have experienced at other Indian restaurants. I don't want to trash this restaurant as living in the area we all want to see restaurants be successful. They have quite a large menu which surprised me. My suggestion to the owner... trim it down and keep the focus on high quality food over quantity. You can always expand over time. Key is developing a strong reputation. I would say they need to work out some of the kinks like any new restaurant. Again staff are friendly and want to please give them a little time as they just opened, but do try them.

My former friend took me here for my birthday. I've been Vegan for over 35 years. The only thing I…read morecould eat was white rice, which I really shouldn't ever eat and cucumber salad. It was an incredibly thoughtless gift. Their food is fairly disgusting, and this has nothing to do with me being Vegan naturally, they only put out the cheapest stuff possible and once in a while, they'll put out the more expensive stuff. I remember being very grossed out by the condition of the sneeze guard and the floor and that was such a long time ago. I can't even believe I remember it! Maybe things have changed, but somehow I doubt it. Who the hell wants to pay $11 or whatever it was for an all you can eat menu of absolute son of a lumberjack food. We heard that on a commercial and could not stop laughing. Everyone else seemed fine with it, but we're picky as hell. When we find a leafy green salad with rotten leaves in it, we don't want to eat it just a little tiny things like that we're not kidding, no, we are kidding. Sorry to give the place a bad review because we want every local business to succeed. We're not even through there anymore.. What the hell takes a Vegan to such a place? If you wanted to save money, then don't take me out to lunch in the first place. Cost much friction because I ended up telling my good friend or so. I thought the truth and she got so mad. Nobody likes the truth and I don't either and I should've kept my big mouth shut, but I couldn't. I also didn't think it was a good idea for her to eat there because it was afraid she was gonna get food poisoning.

I haven't been to a buffet in sooo long so I was very excited going into this…read more First off, I was a little disappointed because it seemed like everyone had the same idea so the parking was full. But it was okay because we found street parking a little bit of a walk away and was able to still enjoy ourselves. My fiancé and I grabbed a bunch of food from their big variety and both left stuffed. Overall, I can't say it's the best quality of foods however, the selection was huge and for the price, this was actually very good! The service was great. They started us off with drinks as soon as we sat down and would ask us if we needed refills on these drinks whenever they were running low. Even though there was a lot of people, because the space itself is also big, it did not feel like we were overcrowded so that was also a plus!

Went here today for lunch…read more Nice establishment overall. They have a free parking lot, and the entrance is inside the hotel, you take the elevator upstairs to the buffet. However, when we arrived, nobody was at the front counter, so we walked to the inside counter to ask to be seated. The front desk guy clearly just came in for his shift since he was hurrying on his cell phone, carrying bags and had his jacket on. He came over looking very busy and disheveled, and when my mom politely asked if we should wait here to be seated, he rudely responded, "Well if there's no one at that counter then you come to this counter if you see the sign." Meanwhile... there was no sign saying that when we left. My mom was just asking a simple question, so the attitude was unnecessary. Just because you're stressed or running late doesn't mean you take it out on customers. F him for being rude to my nice mom and never coming to this place again. As for the food, it was pretty mediocre overall, that experience left a bad taste. The sushi selection had a good variety, and the desserts were honestly the best part. They have a chocolate fondue station plus vanilla, matcha, and swirl soft serve ice cream machines. At least the place was clean. Also, the waitress gives you a parking discount before you leave, so don't forget to ask.

I've been to Flaming Grill numerous times but never have reviewed so here it goes…read more The good. Most of the food is quite tasty. The hibachi is quite good and fresh albeit a little overcooked on the eggs and beef. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The value for what you pay is the reason you go as well as most of the food. There is quite a lot of lobster and crab, but no lobster tail. My favorite things are the hibachi grill, the coconut chicken, the boneless spareribs and soups to name a few. There truly is something for everyone. The not so good. The sushi is very hit or miss I've had it. It's pretty good and I've had it where I wouldn't need it. It's not that it's bad. It's just lacking flavor. Most of the little dessert cakes are dry and flavorless. It can't get crowded on the weekends, but I've never had to wait for a seat. Granted it's usually just my wife and I if you have a big party you might wait on the weekend. The bad and why I took a star away on the review. Twice now, I've been there and ordered from the hibachi grill. The cook after he's done preparing your food will point at his tip jar or pick it up and shake it at you. If you don't tip him, he says something nasty to you. I'm sorry that's unacceptable. Overall, it wouldn't stop me from ever going back. Keep in mind it's an all you can eat Asian buffet. If you realize that and you're spending $23 at the time of typing this, it's well worth it.
