Talias = Boca's hidden gem. I have been eating at Talias for about 5 years now. Never in my life have I enjoyed an eatery as much as I have Talias. Recommended by a buddy in college my sophomore year, I decided to give this place a shot. Since my first experience, a full month hasnt gone by without getting my hands on one of their JUMBO sandwiches. My favorite is the Marco Polo, decked with chicken, greens, tomatoes, and my favorite, apples and Gorgonzola cheese. WARNING: with great size also comes great flavor. Another great perk is their $1 beers. All the time, any time. I dont know any other establishment that allows their patrons to serve themselves fresh out of the keg beer. for ONE DOLLAR!?! I'd like to finish my review by giving a shout out to Andy, the main man around Talias. With Andy, there is never a dull moment. I have an immense amount of respect for this man. I purchased 2 groupons to Talia's Tuscan Table on February 19. I then called the restaurant and made a reservation for February 22. When we entered the restaurant we saw signs posted that absolutely no coupons would be accepted. Thinking that the sign could not possibly refer to the groupons I had just purchased, we sat down and I took out a printed copy of the first purchased groupon. We started perusing the menu and the owner or manager approached with a friendly hello. He spotted the printed groupon and said, pointing to the sign, that he would not accept the groupon. He said Groupon never pays him. He offered to give me $9 back. I told him that I had paid more (because I bought 2 groupons) and that I had JUST purchased the groupons days before. He continued to berate Groupon. I asked him why his restaurant was still listing offers on Groupon. He said that he had tried to delist the offer for 5 years. He again offered $9, but I declined and decided to leave the restaurant. Groupon credited our original purchase price for both groupons. read more

This is a great little place! We are in town on vacation, This area is a regular vacation spot for us as I lived here a few years back. Found a Yelp deal and based on the google/tripadvisor/yelp reviews decided to give it a try, and so glad I did! We had the linguine and clams and also lobster ravioli with vodka sauce. The vodka sauce was one of the best I've had, just the right mix of cream and tomato. Husband loved his linguini and clams, there was a ton of clams, they definitely didn't skimp!. I also loved the bread with garlic and olive oil, it was very tasty. And all I had to drink was water and I was given a bottled water for free, not tap water. It's the little things! The owner, Frankie I guess his name is, was very hospitable and made us feel welcome. We may come back and check out the pizza before we go back home. My Mom and I took the cooking glass with Chef Andy. I have taught cooking classes myself but absolutely love the style of this class. Its very casual, you are cooking in his kitchen, everyone shares. You instantly become friends with everyone in the class over broken bread and bottles of wine. He teaches you the basic elements of cooking so that you actually understand WHY you do something, rather than just HOW you do it... The atmosphere is not at all what you would expect with a pour your own beer keg, but it's extremely inviting in a "come in, let me share my secrets with you" kind of way... We have already signed up for a second class and look forward to spending another Sunday afternoon with Chef Andy. If you are looking for a white table cloth, snub nose arrogant chef who will teach you food you could never afford all of the ingredients to yourself, don't go. But if you truly love cooking and the simple joys of a family preparing a meal together, Chef Andy is the only one I've met that can really teach you that b/c you can tell it's the reason he cooks himself. read more

Just had Boston seafood platter for two. Fabulous taste in an engaging environment. No fooling around here; you place your order, pay for it, wait patiently for a bell or a yelp indicating it is time to pick up your vittles, carry it to your table and enjoy the ample, deliciously prepared food. You bus your own table, carefully dispose of disposables, place the silverware in the container ready for the dishwasher. So far, the Godfather has not required us to wash the dishes or sweep the floors! By the way, we dared to look around while waiting for our food only to discover a delightful display of mouth watering Italian Grocery Items, fairly priced, which we did not hesitate to stack on our table only too happy to take home. You bet we paid for the groceries! A sign warns you to do otherwise would be pure folly. Stopped in last night to order sandwiches for take out - BIG MISTAKE. When you walk in there is no clear path into the place so you have to weave in and out of the occupied tables. Then there is no way of telling who works here and who does not. After standing around and asking a few people who looked like they might have worked there they told us to go to the bar to order. It was in another room in the back. Again who works here and who does not? We stood there waiting to be acknowledged to place and order. There were 2 people behind the bar having a unfriendly conversation and then finally one of them took our order (reluctantly). He reviewed our order, rang it up, processed my credit card payment and placed the order. We waited. And waited. And waited. When the person who took our order (someone called him Jeremy) passed by I asked for the status and he said it would be coming. After that it seemed he avoided us and we waited some more. We did not see a lot of activity coming out of the kitchen maybe a pizza and an order for someone at the bar that came in well after we did. I went over to the person behind the bar and asked him about our order and he went towards the kitchen saying its coming and Christmas is coming too. Really? After close to an hour for our order which only consisted of 4 sandwiches arrived . No apology, no explanation no trying to make up for the situation at all. There seemed to be a lot of people working there but no one actually doing any work or being overly concerned whether the customers were being taken care of or if their food was being delivered in a reasonably timely manner. When my credit card was processed I included a $5 tip which I will NEVER do up front again not knowing the quality of service that will be provided. I would never reward bad service and feel ripped off, so MY TIP is to anyone reading this who may for some unknown reason patron this establishment - don't include the tip unless it is deserved with good service. Maybe that will make the employees and/or owners care a little more. BTW while waiting at the bar we were subjected to what they call "entertainment". There was a little stage by the bar and they had a self identified comedian named Amy. She was terrible, it appeared the only people who applauded were family members. Seems like she just flew in from the Catskills with a 40 year old routine. The guy after her was equally as bad and rude but thank goodness I wasn't subjected to his entire routine. My husband and I recently attended one of Tahlia's Tuscan Table Cooking classes. We learned so much more than we ever thought we could. Chef Andy was personable, entertaining and informative. He offered instructions, tips, hints and demonstrated difficult Italian sauces in a way that was easy to understand and learn. My daughter and I were the only seated patrons in the place the whole time, maybe 5 people came in throughout our time there, it was dinnertime, probably 6:30 7:00. We should have gone with our gut instinct and left. Dark and dingy. It may have been the dishwasher, came out and started mopping the floor while we were eating, slopping water and mopping away ewwww. This wonderful Italian restaurant/deli is so worth finding; unlike most places these days, they do everything authentic and made from scratch, including the fresh mozzarella they make daily to give you to nibble on while you wait for your order. I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked into this restaurant. Rustic doesn't begin to describe the decor but I loved the signs, posters and memoribilia that line the walls. We were greeted by the man behind the counter and offered a sample of house-made mozzarella. It was creamy and delicious. I had a yearning for lasagna but was told that they had sold out. I was offered baked ziti instead. Then the deal was sweetened with the addition of a huge meatball and some sliced sausage. The tasty meatball wasn't heated all the way through but the dish on a whole was wonderful. My husband had the lobster ravioli and loved it, smothered in pink vodka sauce. Talia's food is great. My family definitely has our favorites, and the owner and his assistant chef know our preferences and remember them. The risotto is amazing, the penne arrabiata is yummy and spicy, the soup is delicious even in hot Florida. The arborio rice it's made with is a wonderful change from the penne or elbows so many use in their soup. The sandwiches are HUGE and tasty. I have been here a couple times and have been impressed both times. The first time I had the softshell taco wrap and it was pretty amazing...the wrap was fresh and the crab was nice and crispy. The other time I had lobster ravioli for dinner and it was as good if not better than some 5 star restaurants in town. This is one of the best places in Boca....At the NE corner of Dixie and Spanish River so you might not notice it unless you're looking for it. Great authentic Italian food made fresh to order and inexpensive, especially for Boca. Sandwiches on their fresh baked crusty bread are amazing and big enough to share. They also have a cold keg on tap that u pour yourself and just put a dollar in the pitcher, great idea! My office is is in Boca and whenever we have catered lunches everyone demands I call Talia's....for about $8 or so per head, Andy will prepare a huge tray of whatever meat dish you want, and then you pick what kind of pasta tray you want, plus salad and garlic bread. Amazing quality, and realistically probably worth twice what he charges. We usually do these lunches for 15-20 people and it's more food than we can even finish. One of the best white pizzas in Boca. Service is not always the fastest, but they are always very friendly. Come in a couple times and you are family! Different themes around the restaurant keep it upbeat. Feels like going for lunch at my Uncle Louie's. Sandwiches are huge, cannolis are right on, and the quantity of food will leave no one hungry. Bear in mind that there's nothing fancy about Talias. It's a bare bones joint with paper plates, get it yourself silverware and disposable plastic cups, no waitresses, and seat yourself. BUT, oh how great is the food! AND it's priced very right! Hence, the five stars! We shared a delicious antipasto and had platters of shrimp parmigiana, eggplant parm, and zupa de pesce. All were delicious and generous. If you're looking to get dressed up and served in a fancy Italian restaurant with oil paintings on the wall and valet parking, go someplace else. I've previously eaten here for lunch and bought food to take home but today 4 of us went for a cooking class to get some tips on cooking Italian food at home... OMG! All I can say is make this a MUST STOP HERE TO EAT! Chef Andrew (from Da Bronx!) is trained at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY and has gained experience throughout his life by working in restaurants in the USA as well as Europe. The class started with an overview of Chef's professional experience and then a little discussion of his family (including the big family dinner on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). He then talked about the basics of Italian cooking to give the students of the class the foundation of what was being cooked that day. The menu included different types of bruschetta (tomato, mozzarella & roasted peppers, gorgonzola & apples & walnuts, artichokes & sun dried tomatoes, olive tapinade) over freshly grilled Tuscan bread, pasta e fagiole (pasta/white bean soup), pasta (ziti, tri color tortellini, linguini, fetuccini) with different sauces (marinara, clam, pancetta, meatballs, prima vera, marsala, portobello mushrooms with soy sauce - worcestshire sauce - balsamic vinegar) and then ended with fresh berries with Sabayon (egg custard with sweet marsala wine, sweet vermouth, sugar, cinammon, vanilla extract). The basics of cooking even included a demonstration of proper knife skills to ensure safety for the chef (please no finger tips in the bruschetta). The most important part of a cooking class is to have the opportunity for direct hands-on preparation and Chef Andrew certainly gave every student the chance to do so. We all cut, mixed, stirred, cooked, grilled and plated the food for every course. In addition to the food, we all were able to pair the course with different wines. The red wine was Chef Andrew's own but we did not have any evidence of "I Love Lucy pressing grapes in the vat" If you have the opportunity, then take one of Chef Andew's cooking classes - you will not be disappointed on spending a Sunday afternoon cooking with Chef Andrew at Talia's Tuscan Table in Boca Raton, Florida. read more
