This is how my drink came to the table. Does it look like light ice to you?. I asked Adam, the waiter why wasn't my glass full? He said that's your light ice. Umm, that's definitely not light ice and doesn't warrant why my class wasn't full. I will NOT order a drink again. It was not good either. The sushi was a little cold but it was good. I had heard of Takosushi, but until December 26 hadn't tried it. Suffice it to say, I loved it. My son and I started with chips and salsa. While simple, the salsa has a great flavor and is mild so everyone can enjoy. We also had the shrimp shumai. They were piping hot, perfectly cooked and delicious. Next we moved to the rolls. We had the Dynamite, Hannah and Julie. All were excellent. The spicy shrimp is awesome. We watched a number of items cross the bar (where we were seated). Whether they were the sushi or southwest dishes they looked great. Additionally, our server was attentive and on top of refilling our drinks along with clearing our dishes. All with friendly rapport and a smile! We will be going back and I recommend you do the same! read more

This has been our go-to sushi place for two years now! You get a unique twist with the burger, the fries are good, and I've gotten the Susan roll religiously since I don't care for raw fish. The sexy salad had no Ponzu sauce, the extra soy vinaigrette was left out of the order, utensils for one person versus two people and not the freshest sushi. This restaurant just lends credence to my belief that fusion food cannot be done well. The best compliment I can give this place in terms of its food and flavor is that it is edible. And I guess the gyoza was pretty good because they didn't try to do some sort of Mexican dumpling I guess. The idea behind this place is good, and the restaurant has its heart in the right place. Mexican food is awesome. Japanese food is awesome. So if we put the two together, it would be doubly awesome?! However, it just comes off as confused like the place's decor. It doesn't work and not for the lack of trying. The waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. And you can tell from the plating and presentation they the kitchen staff is trying too. They simply do not miss! The Surrey Center location is by far my favorite. My fiancé and I have to indulge here at least once a month. If we don't, the cravings run STRONG! The service is great. We like to eat at the bar to watch them make the rolls, and when you see something you like, you can ask them what it is! We always have to get the tempura asparagus to share, and our favorite is the Jesse Roll. The Ika Sansai is a great option to add to one roll instead of getting two; saves a little money and it's so refreshing! The Tako Lemon Drop is DELICIOUS! read more

If you're looking for Quality sushi that'd you'd find around Atlanta, this is it! I've always been a big fan of sushi, it's something I get once every few weeks when I lived in Atlanta. This place hit my sushi crave well. The ambiance is nice and lively but a bit of wait some times. I waited 30 minutes to get a table for dinner but was well worth it. The Susan roll I got was flash fried and so delicious, I would definitely get it again and everyone at my table who tried a piece said it was their favorite of the night. BEST quality sashimi and sushi in town. Hands down, no argument. I've had sashimi from countless places in Augusta and Atlanta, and I have found that I like Takosushi's salmon the best. Their tuna, escolar, and other raw fish are also very fresh as well. I always get the bento box here that comes with any roll of sushi, 6 pieces of nigiri (2 of salmon, tuna, and escolar), and 6 pieces of sashimi (also 2 salmon, tuna, and escolar). The box also comes with cucumber salad and miso soup. I love their soup, but the cucumber salad got a little salty for me since it was basically cucumbers soaked in soy sauce. This time I also ordered a Sexy Salad which is basically the cucumber salad with some fish on it. For the sushi, I chose Cary's roll that comes flash fried. I like it, but the rice was packed very densely this time which gave the sushi a weird texture. Otherwise, all the food was good. There's not a lot of seating here, but the waitress did her best to get us seated as soon as possible which I appreciate. Small restaurant in a nice plaza filled with other nice restaurants. We sat inside and enjoyed a nice ambiance as well as great service. We ordered the stuffed jalapenos to start. They came stuffed with chorizo and cream cheese and a cheese dipping sauce. Overall pretty good. For our entrees we ordered: The steak takos, 3 takos from the "choose your style section of the menu" and sumo soup. The steak tacos come out fajita style where you build your own tacos. Good amount of food, however I found the steak to be pretty tough and chewy. Definitely would not order again. The sumo soup is stuffed plump with all types of seafood (mussels, shrimp, salmon) but is overwhelmed with the salmon flavor. After a few bites it's hard to taste anything other than the salmon. The three takos that we ordered included the pulled pork, chorizo & fish. Out of all the food we ordered this was by far the biggest crowd pleaser. The takos come out already made and accompanied by beans. Overall probably won't be back again for the "western" side of the menu but will definitely be back to try the "eastern" (sushi) side of the menu. read more

This was overall a good dining experience, but nothing that will knock your socks off. I came here with a group of seven on a Wednesday night, and we had a surprinsingly long wait. It seemed that shortly after we sat down, everyone cleared out. It started super loud and noisy but later we could actually hear everyone speak. For reasons unknown, despite multiple times asking for a drink menu, our server could not seem to find one... eventually our table acquired and coveted one lone drink menu. Then when multiple people ordered a beer, they only had one pint glass left... Underwhelmed by the beer selection (I often am outside of Wisconsin so I don't judge when the restaurant isn't there with a beer focus), so I ordered a margarita instead. Not bad, but somewhat on the weak side. The guacamole had an odd consistency when you tried to scoop it onto a chip, but it did have a distinct and delicious taste. I couldn't tell if the ingredients simply weren't mashed up well enough or if it was an ingredient I didn't recognize that simply didn't lend to mashing. I ordered from the sushi side of the menu. I was disappointed to see that I could not get a simple maki roll like a tuna roll with nothing else but the seaweed and rice. But, I could order sushi and sashimi, so I did order the salmon sushi, scallop sushi, and scallop sashimi. All were delicious, but I have had better scallop (it was still good!). Overall, we had good service aside from the drink menu/glass conundrum at the beginning. Our server was super nice and she was attentive throughout the meal. So many changes! They have definitely revamped their menu since the last time I've been here with a stronger emphasis on great quality sushi! This is now my favorite spot to get sushi in Augusta. It's located in the very quaint and popular Surrey Center with a bunch of boutiques, bars and other nice restaurants. The atmosphere is hip, young and always busy due in part to it being a small popular restaurant. The last time we came on a Thursday night around 8 and were lucky enough to snag the last 4 top. There was a wait starting to form by the time we left. Always expect a wait on the weekends. They get busy early. There's outside seating on the sidewalk and they have heat lamps for use when it's cold. Drinks were delicious and very reasonably priced around $8 for specialty cocktails. I was a big fan of the pear martini and my friend's cucumber mojito. They also had a great selection of wines and beers. For our entree, all 4 of us opted to get the Bento box which came with miso soup, salad, your choice of sushi roll, 5 pieces of nigri and 12 pieces of sashimi that were chef's choice. It's advertised as being for one person but it could have easily been split up between two people. Miso soup and salad were standard. I went with the Hot Mama Roll (Dynamite Roll Faced Up, Topped with Tuna Tartare, Togarishi Pepper & Sriracha Drizzle) and it was delicious. The tuna tartar had so much flavor. Now, my one pet peeve about this place is how Americanized most of the sushi rolls were by either being deep fried or containing cream cheese. So be ready to ask for changes if you prefer real sushi. Now, what blew me away was how fresh and thick the slices of sashimi and nigri were. There were 3 sashimi pieces each of salmon, red meat tuna, fatty tuna, and mackerel. I had one piece each of salmon, red meat tuna, mackerel, fatty tuna and shrimp nigri. It was SO GOOD. Definitely recommend this option if you enjoy fresh sushi since you get a taste of everything. Service was excellent. Despite being busy, our server and I assume someone he was training gave us time to decide on the menu, have recommendations, kept our drinks filled and was always around if we needed anything. I have eaten similar quality sushi at Kroger to go. The drink I had was good and I was told that's probably the best drink there. I've been going to Takosushi since it opened. The new owners do not get the good tuna anymore or any of the Uni that was such a treat. Even Myabi has Uni. They do not have oysters anymore either.
