Black pepper beef with ramen
Jessica W.

Such a solid spot for Chinese cafe food. The service may not be the friendliest, but they're quick and honestly, that's what most Chinese people care about anyway. I'm usually not a big fan of breakfast items at Chinese cafes, so I'll show up around 10-10:30AM when their lunch menu starts. That's when I was introduced to their black pepper beef with ramen noodles. YUM, SO good! The flavors are super well seasoned and perfectly balanced. The portion size is huge for the price, which makes me happy because there's always enough left over to pack up for a good snack later hahaha big back, big back. They also have a housemade chili oil that's shared between all the tables. Just a drizzle of that over your food and it's chef's kiss! I always order a side of their milk tea too - hot with less sweetness. If I'm getting it iced, I'll stick with regular sweetness.

The food is as about what I remember. The lunch special gets you the milk tea for two dollars instead of four. And prices are higher like every place else.

Negative star for service: I pointed out to a waitress a photo on menu that I wanted to order but she impatiently with irritated face answered she doesn't know then I asked what is this in the menu and she refused to answer saying there is Chinese and English read it yourself. I asked another lady she gave gave me the wrong order. service negative star 0 star for Pickled Mustard and Shredded Pork Rice Noodles: Way too salty and taste terrible(picked mustard and pork way over cooked is for people with no teeth to eat). The worst food I ever had. 3 star for milk tea: Just okay

Not sure what the rave about this place is, we certainly weren't left impressed after trying this place out on a Saturday. They were pretty busy, so that was a good sign to start, but sadly after trying the food we ordered, it left much to be desired. The jooks we ordered didn't really have too much taste, and were also very watered down, perhaps that's how it is here? Also, the soy sauce chow mein, didn't taste very fresh at all, it's like they were leftover from the day before. The curry beef stew was pretty decent, but there wasn't too much meat included, lots of potatoes, but decent curry flavor. The wonton soup and beef stew, together were okay, nothing too special or worth raving about. The customer service was okay, although, we did have to consistently check on our food orders, as they did not all come out at the same time, and one took way longer to come than the rest. Wouldn't recommend coming to this particular restaurant, it can be skipped.

Choose 3 sides and noodles. HK style milk tea on the top

One of the last few cha chaan teng (I think) in SF! I was craving something quick, simple and easy for breakfast and this place was relatively cheap for what I wanted. I've been here a few times and love that it gives me the same vibes as HK. The service is quick and there's a few tables but it gets waited quickly. It's more suitable for a party of 2-4. For a price less than $10, you get a filling meal along with a drink. Please bring cash! They're a cash only business. I think they recently just started a Venmo account which is helpful if you're strapped for cash. The staff are mostly Cantonese speaker but do know minimal English for orders.

Hot Hong Kong Milk Tea $4

TAK. KEE. LEE. YA. KNOW. ME. Best Hong Kong milk tea in town!!! Tried a handful of hot milk teas in the City and nothing hits like it does here. They got the ratio of tea to evaporated milk, right! Their tea is dark & punchy, not watered down and they serve it at a perfect HOT temperature. Love the Asian aunties there too! Friendly service :-)

I ordered the ox tongue baked pasta. Tak Kee is a Hong Kong-style sausage soup restaurant with reasonable prices, the cheapest in the Outer Sunset area. Their Hong Kong-style milk tea is very rich and they add evaporated milk before serving, which is a bit different from the milk tea in Hong Kong, where you need to add sugar and adjust it yourself. It's great

Fried Chicken Leg With Egg Over Rice

Tak Kee Lee is great for HK-style breakfast, which is what hubs was craving. He started off with the chicken wings and french fries - arrived hot and crispy, but the wings are small. My go-to is the fried chicken leg with fried egg over rice. Love how crispy the chicken leg is - quite flavorful and filling. Hubs ordered the fried pork chop and spam over rice. Kiddo ordered the combination ramen. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We were lucky and got seated right when we arrived, but it all comes down to timing as this place tends to get busy. Line started forming soon after.

Beef Chow Fun

Tak Kee Lee is a no-frills, simple cha chaan teng. I came with a group of friends, and luckily, some of them speak Cantonese, which made ordering so much easier. Everything we ordered was solid: - Beef Chow Fun - Fried Chicken Wings with Spicy Lemongrass Sauce - House Special Fried Rice - Won Ton Soup - Milk teas and teas (not pictured) The serving portions are great, especially for their prices. Parking isn't too hard in the area either. Come here if you're looking for reasonably priced, HK-style food!

Came here with the in-laws and had lunch. Foods good and it gets packed. Make sure to get here early and if you're ordering some oven baked items, it might take a while. Def still a gem for the price it is, cash only. I enjoyed my won ton lo mien and iced lemon coke. We also ordered curry oxtail rice, baked oxtail over rice, and baked pork chop. Just a lot of people enjoying their lunch and watching the tv that they have there. Sunday football . 10/10 I'm Chinese so I'd come back again. - iG@BlackTigerEats

The place to go for Traditional HK style menu in American portions. The drink menu is pretty nice as well. Hk milk tea was quite good as well and you can ask for sweetness level. Service is fast and prompt much like in HK. The ambiance as well... much like HK! We were there at 11:45 am on a Sunday and wasn't too crowded. Though only had this place once, love the style and will be back to try rest of the menu!

Menu December 2023

I came by for breakfast with my mom. I looked up on Yelp for Hong Kong style breakfasts. We were both interested in the porridge that came with either a noodle, rice roll or Chinese fried donuts. However, when we arrived and placed our order, the lady told us that they do not service that part of the menu anymore though they still hand you that part of the menu when you sit down. She said they haven't serviced that in a LONG time. :/ WHELP. We end up both getting the breakfast noodle soup ($9.95) that comes with either Hong Kong style milk tea, coffee or juice. If you'd like it iced its an extra $1.70. The menu allows you to choose which type of noodle you want (ranging from rice noodle, spaghetti, egg noodle, etc) and 3 toppings. The toppings ranged from ham, luncheon meat (spam), beef, chicken, fried egg, fish balls, etc. It seems like the toppings are majority protein as the only veggie option was (preserved vegetable & meat or the preserved mustard & meat). I ordered the flat rice noodle with luncheon meat, fried egg, and the preserved mustard with meat (pork) and choose the hot milk tea for my drink. The hot milk tea comes with or without condensed milk (they will ask). Very typical Hong Kong style milk tea. The noodle soup was actually pretty tasty. The soup hit the spot on that cold December day. It was a clear chicken broth, had good flavor and wasn't very salty. The noodles were soft yet not so much that it broke easily. The fried egg was over medium which was nice because I don't like over soft eggs so that worked out in my favor. The preserved veggie and meat actually made my noodle soup put together. I really enjoyed the homeyness of the bowl of noodles. Even though we weren't anticipating getting noodle soup for brunch, my mom and I enjoyed our noodle soups. The service was pretty quick around 10:30am, though it was also pretty packed inside. We were in and out within 30 minutes. There were multiple tables of 2-4, so definitely more so a hole in the wall and not that suitable for larger groups. Parking was fairly easy if you were to pay the meter ($2.25 or $2.50/ hour), residential parking was harder to find. FYI CASH ONLY!

Great HK breakfast spot for under $10. My family loves coming here on the weekends and grabbing a bowl of rice noodles and Hk milk tea. They are various breakfast combination sets that you can chose from. The noodle one let's you select three toppings and choose your choice of lemon tea, hk milk tea or coffee. The also have western style combos that comes with toast eggs and a protein. I always opt for the soup noodle set, with pickled vegetables, fish balls, satay beef and the wide rice noodles. We also love to get the lai fun which is a larger rice vermicelli. Ask for the house chili oil it adds a little kick and makes the soup a delight!

I was by myself and wanted to have a quick eat. This place has unique ramen so I decided to come again (also SF/bay area only in the US). We were a large group of 15, including several kids, and we completely understand that the restaurant is small and accommodating a group our size can be challenging. We waited in line for almost an hour with around 6 children. During the wait, a staff member named Sue came outside, asked how many people were in our group, and handed us menus. Since it was our first visit, we were naturally asking questions and trying to understand the menu. Unfortunately, throughout the interaction, her body language and expressions felt impatient and unwelcoming. There was visible frustration and eye-rolling, which made us feel uncomfortable rather than welcomed. Even after we were seated, the experience continued to feel tense. One of the toddlers in our group started crying briefly -- something fairly common with young children -- and we were told to "keep it low out of respect." While we absolutely respect other diners, the way it was communicated felt lacking in empathy, especially on a busy Mother's Day with families dining out. A small gesture of kindness or understanding could have gone a long way. Instead, my friend felt compelled to take the child outside, which was disappointing. Additionally, after being seated, we had to remind the staff multiple times to come take our orders. What makes this especially unfortunate is that the ramen itself was truly delicious and lived up to the hype. The food was excellent, which is why this experience was so disappointing overall. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because customer service and hospitality matter just as much as the food experience. Unfortunately, this was not the ideal way to end our Mother's Day celebration.

Once we got seated, they were pretty prompt to give us utensils, napkins, cups, and water. The two of us shared the Braise Beef Galbi Stew. It's more than enough for 2 people to go home in food comas (with some food remaining) and for 3 to be sufficiently full. If you have big eaters, order an app alongside if you have 3 people. The Galbi stew was exceptional. I liked that they had various levels of spiciness. We went with spicy and it had a nice kick that elevated the dish for me. The beef was very tender and flavorful and the veggies and rice cakes soaked up all the juices. And the cheese was so stretchy! I'd actually rank this place slightly above Daeho given the shorter wait, the quality, and the price. I'll be back for sure.
