Came here after arriving to SF and though my family and I were looking for another nearby establishment that was closed that day, we decided to give this spot a try. A very homey Chinese-Vietnamese inspired pho location. It's not regular pho, as it has lots more sweetness in flavor. It wasn't bad, was looking more for authentic pho. I ordered the Raw Beef Flank Pho. It was pretty meaty, broth was decent, again just was not the flavor I was hoping for. We also got to try their Fried Tofu appetizer, which actually was pretty good. Crispy, yet light in flavor. Our hostess lady was friendly and was pretty good service. Street parking only or you can take the local bus and walk a few blocks to get here.
Not so decorated, old storefront, you won't even want to go in but I tell you, they have the most creamy deep Vietnamese coffee, the ox tail was large portion and complete with a fired egg. Their hours are awesome opening way earlier than other Vietnamese noodle shop of this caliber. Chinese fried bread noodle roll is one of their many varieties. So diverse and they all taste so amazing. Hands down, one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in sunset. You won't regret giving them a chance.
I never have a bad meal at Pho Recipe. The staff is always attentive and friendly. They offer plenty of options on the menu. Everything has always been consistent. You can even get a banh mi in the evenings if you want.
There's so much more than pho here - just take a look at their extensive menu! Looking around are regulars, a family with kids, a person eating alone, a mom with a young child... It took awhile to get our order but it's understandable when only one guy runs the front of the restaurant. We ordered and shared a large beef stew noodle soup and in the recent cold climate, this helped warm us up! The beef was tasty with silver skins that had to be removed, because they're hard to chew. The tendons has a lot of collagen - tasty and great for the joints! One big bowl filled up two of us! I also had a refreshing pina colada slushie. Really basic ambiance, reminding me of eateries in HK, with pictures of their dishes on the walls. I did not feel any msg allergic reactions in my mouth afterwards, making this a place somewhere I would return!
The broth is really flavorful. The thin slices of beef are tender and seemingly melted in my mouth. The noodles are a little thicker than the thin rice noodles I like. But overall a really good bowl of pho. I was in on a Thursday around 1 and wasn't too busy.
Nestled in the retail section of Noriega Street, this place is a bit of a highlight on the strand. They have a huge selection of Vietnamese offerings. It's worn, clean, but divey in an acceptable way. The service was okay. They came out quickly and brought the tea, took the order. However, the food took a bit to come out and there were 2-3 tables that came after we did and were served before us. Ordered two sandwiches and one came out 5 minutes before the other.Not a good look. That said the 5 spice and beef Bahn Mi sandwiches were huge and delicious. 5 spice is a highlight here. Beef was good too. Beef was medium/medium rare but was a bit rich/fatty (could have been expected here)
I came here with a friend to try out. I was craving pho and this place was good from what my friends told me. It's a mom and pop pho place so it's hella authentic. They were quick with the food and the drinks, which was hot tea. I ended up getting a beef pho, while she got the satay, along with some spring rolls. The pho and spring rolls were good. I have no complaints, I was lucky to get parking, but you know it's the city.
Absolutely loved the food here, had a large bowl of Beef rib Pho, Imperial Rolls, and Spring Rolls all of which were Delicious.....

12/19/23 I met up with some friends at Pho Recipe since pho tastes way better on a cold winter evening. Pho Recipe is located in Outer Sunset, so somewhat of a trek for me since I live out in the Peninsula. Parking around there wasn't too bad surprisingly because I was able to park across the street. We got there around 6PM and there was no wait. Here's what we got to share: - Papaya salad - Shrimp spring roll We each got our own noodle soups. I specifically got the Five Spice chicken noodle soup. The shrimp rolls were pretty standard with the usual peanut sauce. The papaya salad was refreshing. I got the large noodle soup and finished the entire thing. The chicken was tender and juicy. Pho Recipe is a good spot if you want something more on the casual side. Portions and pricing are decent.
Omg the Bun Rieu is SOOOO GOOD if you're craving a hearty tomato noodle soup with tofu and crab meat. Take out was very friendly and efficient. However 3 spring rolls ended up being $22.
Stumbled upon this place because my kids and I wanted pho and it was just in the neighborhood we happened to be in. To start off, the place is small but not crowded. Homey vibe and authentic with their menu food pictures on the wall, very helpful. On to the food, the chicken pho was very bland, so we had to spruce it up with ALOT of lemons and sriracha sauce. The BBH wasn't spicy at all (in my opinion, my spice tolerance is high) but there were so much minced lemongrass in the soup, every time I slurped, I found myself choking on the spices. Personally, I won't be returning but it was a good experience. Parking was pretty easy for me, keep in mind it's meter parking mainly.
Still amazing! I don't normally go to restaurants more than once but this is my only exception. Ordered to go this time and they now have bowls big enough for the noodles so all you have to do is pour in the broth. Yes I will drive the 50 min round trip for this gem!
The usual is Bun Rieu but the Pho Ga or any rice noodle are also good depending on the mood. One of the few spots worth trekking to and should stop by if already in the area. The Viet iced coffee is good if on the sweet side. They have an oily chili hot sauce that should be bottled and sold. The one time I don't mind not using Sriracha hot sauce in pho. This place is consistent over the years despite ownership change. The food, the decor, the staff. It is usually full but never crowded so the wait is not long. I think 5% saved if payment is cash. Parking is plenty, meters or residential, though many other eateries are in the area and may have to look around a bit. read more
Came here on a weekday and it wasn't too busy. They have a huge selection on their menu. I ordered the Crab paste noodle soup and it was delicious. It took awhile to be made so you know it's fresh! The broth was flavorful and loved all of the elements in the soup. If you bring cash to this place, there is a discount but they also take card. read more

Ordered takeout from Pho Recipe and really enjoyed what we tried. The combination beef pho was flavorful and the tofu vermicelli hit the spot as a nice and light vegetarian dish. The shrimp summer rolls are also worth a try! Ordering over the phone was easy and service was efficient. One recommendation would be for the restaurant to consider shifting to sustainable/compostable packaging. Solid spot for Vietnamese cuisine! read more

Generous portion, fast friendly service attendants in a cozy setting. My go to spot for free range chicken pho in the area, would recommend. Ps: their spicy chili sauce is top notch :) read more
Always curious about this place when waiting in line next door for Dim Sum, glad we had a chance to eat lunch here today. This appears to be a popular spot for locals, from the many pictures posted on the walls, they offer a variety of yummy looking authentic (I think) Vietnamese dishes. On a chilly day, nothing beats a piping hot bowl of pho and that's exactly what we had. Hubby ordered the beef rib pho (no.24) and I went for the combo (no. 20). Both of our orders came within minutes, we were happy to see the steam coming out of the giant bowls. There were two pieces of ribs in the large beef rib pho ($16.95) ; lots of beef / beef balls in the large combo pho ($15.50). We liked the generous portions of tasty beef broth served piping hot, the many slices of beef in the combo was very tender and of great quality. Both of the pho came with soft wide rice noodles which met the liking of hubby, I however prefer the thinner/chewier noodles. The beef ribs were over cooked and on the dryer side (perhaps the end of the batch); I also missed having tendon in my combo pho. Overall we did enjoy our lunch; will be back to try other interesting looking dishes. read more

Yum quick service and delicious food! My family and I especially like coming here for the wide ride noodles and the chicken pho. Something about the thicker noodles makes the bowl all the more soothing and comforting. Not to mention the broth is rich in flavor and comes with a good portion of chicken as well. We decided to try the tomato and crab soup noodles which came with a vermicelli noodle. The broth was more tomatoey than what I am used to but it still was delicious nonetheless. We also ventured into the appetizers and ordered the dry fried chicken wings. They came out piping hot and crispy. They are battered so the crunch factor is definitely there, wouldn't say the flavor is as sweet as San Tung but still a solid wing. Will be back when the pho craving hits again, just make sure to bring cash! read more
The Sunset sure ain't lacking for pho. Know what I'm sayin'? You're just never too far from a pho house, and this looks particularly true on Noriega where there are at least a half dozen options. Visually this one isn't quite a standout, more a workaday spot, but they do serve a solid bowl with the $16.95 Beef Rib Pho Noodle Soup (photo: https://bit.ly/43zicFH). I must be going through a Neanderthal stage because I've been recently attracted to dinosaur bones with chewy tendon meat like what they serve at Viet Quan on Taraval (review: https://bit.ly/3ojAx9r). You get a pair with a large order, and I have no inhibitions about gnawing in public. My biggest challenge is avoiding the inevitable splash-back as I devour the meat. Stop staring at me. I've been coming here since a little girl and I love it. Though they did change their name and maybe owners, the food is still amazing. There is plenty of indoor seating. I would say it isn't the most clean, but the food is excellent. I always get their pho tai with the rare beef on the side. The portions are huge and so filling. Their appetizers are good, I would recommend the spring rolls and imperial rolls. read more

Ordered their signature chicken noodle soup. They had a pretty solid food options, mostly comfort food!! I really liked adding their spicy sauce to the noodle soup. Portion sizes were larger than other restaurants, even the chicken was well portioned. Ambiance was casual and mostly clean. Make sure you bring cash. read more
Deep Fried Fish Cake, Shrimp Spring Roll & Chicken Pho is pretty tasty. I couldn't help overhearing a conversation between a customer and an employee talking about 'North and South Style'. So, they do not provide any bean sprouts for your pho order. Their Hainanese Chicken Rice looks AMAZING but it does not taste as amazing. I personally did not like it. The chicken was dry. Rice was sweet; like it was mixed with coconut? The sauces kinda helped. Overall, this place is affordable, service is good and the food is pretty good. read more
Was craving for a bowl of hot noodle when it's so cold so we decided to drive to Pho Recipe in Sunset. Their Bun Bo Hue is very good. Portion is good and filled with plenty of meat. My favorite is the two pieces of pig feet and pork blood. Their chicken pho is a must order too. If you like Bun Bo Hue you have to give this place a try. My hubby used to say the best Bun Bo Hue he had and like is this place on Irving but since he tried this place now this is his favorite. read more
Cash only. This pho place consistently delivers delicious pho, both pho dac biet and pho ga. The noodles are fresh and so smooth. Broth is good. Beef is tender. Unlike other pho places, they do not provide bean sprouts with the pho. Pho ga is also really good, ask for dark meat. read more

No, we don’t make our own noodles. However, we use fresh made noodles that have never been frozen for our noodle soups.
