鮮蝦石磨腸粉 Steam Rice Noodle with Shrimp

Returned here for lunch on a Saturday. It was packed with families, but the wait for a table of 3 was less than 5 minutes. Booths were comfy and clean. Our order: 荔灣艇仔粥 Sampan Congee: $12.95 +Jook was soft, fluffy, and comforting. +Good variety of add-ins: cuttlefish, jellyfish, peanuts, pig stomach, shrimp +Large portion! We were able to have 2 bowls each. 牛肉石磨腸粉 Steam Rice Noodle with Beef ($7.50) +Lettuce added crunch & freshness -Rice noodles were silky smooth and thin, but stuck together. -The beef was in bits and didn't really taste like beef... XO 醬炒紅花蚌 XO Sauce Stir-Fried Red Coral Clams ($28.95): +Plenty of red coral clams that were perfectly cooked. -Sugar snap peas were fibrous -Carrots & celery didn't taste fresh -Salty -Spicy: Not indicated on the menu 白雲鳳爪 White Chicken Feet ($15.95) +Large portion of chilled and halved chicken feet +Sesame seeds added a fragrant toasty flavor. -Inconsistent quality: Sometimes it's bland and sometimes it's just right. This time it was salty, so it was probably marinated too long. Side notes: 1.) Complimentary hot tea 2.) Cash discount 3.) Limited street parking *Verdict: We received our food fairly quickly after ordering, and dishes were cleared promptly. However, the quality of the food isn't what it used to be so I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

My sister introduced Fung Wong restaurant 鳳凰聚薈 in the Sunset District. Because she said it's more authentic in Cantonese cuisine in San Francisco with easy parking access. I agree with her because this restaurant served the best Black Chicken Herbal Soup 黑鸡炖湯 that I've ever had. So many fresh herbs like ginseng, ginger, longan and other goodies simmered with silkie black chicken. The soup was savory and full of nutrients. I drank about 6 bowls and it kept me warm throughout the evening. This soup is known for improving energy and immunity. It also contains high protein, collagen, and double the carnosine of regular chicken. We also ordered Assorted Dry and Fresh Vegetables 羅漢齋 aka Buddhist Delight and Shredded beef and cilantro fried rice 香茜牛鬆炒飯, which was so flavorful and savory. I have been searching for Buddhist Delights to compare the flavors with Fung's Kitchen in Houston. This one seems like a winner. The texture and flavors were uniform throughout the dish. It might be due to the soy sauce as flavoring agent. I highly recommended.

$8.50 black rice roll with pork liver

I've been holding myself back from trying Fung Wong because I see these 2 and 3 star reviews but I finally gave it a try and I'm seriously questioning some yelp reviews! First and foremost, the service here is incredibly attentive, even though all the ladies are crazy busy. They also speak English, though they prefer Cantonese. Our server was so good about reading our nonverbal cues and knew when we were ready to place an order or get the check, needed more napkins or boxes to go. We even got free milk tea on the house because it was after 3pm. This is why all the locals come to Fung Wong! Our dishes: $8.50 black rice roll with pork liver - never seen black rice roll and this is made fresh. The pork was so tender and juicy, with just a slight hint of liver. I'll be interested to see the egg version next time! $7.95 peanut butter French toast - being a PB fan, I was so intrigued. It arrived like a huge deep fried toast. Personally I think it could've used more PB but the saltiness with the butter on top was delicious. I liked how I could control the syrup and amount of sweetness, which for me is just a tiny bit. $20.95 chicken clay pot - I love all kinds of clay pots. This one had Chinese sausage, a little bit of Chinese bacon, shiitake mushrooms and the chicken was deep fried flat chicken wings chopped in half so there are bones $28.95 XO sauce bitter melon sea cucumber with minced pork - your Chinese mom always said foods that are bitter are always good for you, plus sea cucumbers are an expensive delicacy. I like the addition of minced pork and the XO sauce did its best to mask the bitterness $22 salted egg beef cubes - this was sadly a little funky and I'm not sure if it's because the salted egg smelled so pungent and I usually LOVE LOVE LOVE salted egg so I'm not sure what happened here $17.95 black pepper steak pan fried noodles - you can't dine at a Chinese restaurant without ordering some kind of pan fried noodles and this time we tried black pepper, which is a little too pepper for me but a good dish if you like this flavor Don't hesitate to come to Fung Wong like I did. I love the abundance of variety and if you come at different times, you can even order special breakfast or lunch plates! We ordered 6 dishes for the 3 of us and had plenty of leftover. Total bill was $116.50 and yes, you do get a little tiny discount if you pay in cash.

Portuguese chicken risotto (rice, non-baked) - plenty of chicken!

Authentic, classic Cantonese flavors are found here. There is a reason this place is the choice for many locals and is packed often. Their dishes are even improved over time! The fish filet with tofu and bean sticks are even better! There are no bones included, lots of tofu, and also lots of bean curd sticks! The bbq meats are often brought out fresh and readily available from the Sifu!

White Sauce Fish Fillet with Corn Spaghetti

We came to Fung Wong after a long day at the zoo, when most places nearby were already closed, and were craving classic Hong Kong-style café food. This spot absolutely delivered on the food -- but the service was a mixed bag. The staff were friendly enough, but definitely not attentive unless you're a regular. You really have to be loud, clear, and assertive to get your order in. Precision matters here -- one waitress took our order extremely literally, even though it was obvious what we meant. This is not the place for vague ordering; say exactly what you want. Now, onto the food -- which is why people keep coming back. Peanut Butter French Toast Made perfectly. Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, with warm peanut butter oozing through the center. Absolute must-order -- but eat it immediately while it's hot. This does not travel well. Pork Chop with Corn over Rice Important note: this is not baked pork chop over rice. It's a different preparation, and you must specify catsup sauce or you'll be disappointed. Once ordered correctly, it hits the comfort-food spot. Dry Beef Chow Fun A staple done right. Wok hei was there, noodles had good chew, and beef was well seasoned. No complaints. White Sauce Fish Fillet with Corn over Spaghetti This one missed the mark a bit. The "white sauce" wasn't as creamy or rich as expected, and the fish was battered and fried (not oily, but not what I had in mind). Edible, but not memorable. Steamed Rice Noodle with BBQ Pork This dish deserves its own shoutout. Initially, the waitress wasn't going to make it because she was about to leave and clearly didn't care. When she overheard we were going to cancel (and that it was for the kids), the owner stepped in himself and said he'd make it. It came out in about five minutes -- fresh, silky, perfectly sauced, and absolutely delicious. Huge respect for that move. Overall, Fung Wong is a decent HK style like-ish café: great food, inconsistent service, and zero frills. Come here knowing what you want, order clearly, and you'll be rewarded. We'll definitely be back when we're in the area.

This place has some good breakfast specials. For me, I'm not into milk tea being American born - sorry! Everyone else sees the $11.95 breakfast deals from 8:00-11:00am a deal. I'd rather see the lunch deals. Our party of 9 pretty much enjoyed their breakfasts of preserved egg and fish rice porridge, preserved noodle soups, pork chop and French toast, and stir fried noodles. My porridge was creamy with big chunks of fish. I just tossed the stir fried noodles into my porridge.

    Michele T.

Arrived at 11am and it was packed. We had to wait about 20 mins for our party of 5 to be seated. Most were probably there for their breakfast combo specials (8am-11am) which seemed pretty affordable. There's also a small lunch special (11am-3pm) in which a drink with the selected entrees is $2 (example - $2 milk tea vs regular $4.95). Kiddo ordered the fried smelt which is one of his fave dishes - arrived hot, crispy and flavorful. He enjoyed this. The bowl of preserved egg and pork congee was pretty big and enough to share. Needed a bit of soy sauce but good - helped to warm me up as it was a chilly day. The fried donut stick was ok, but I'd probably skip it next time. Wonton noodle soups were ordered - quite a bit of noodles. Quite busy during our visit, so staff were busy. Good option if looking for a HK breakfast spot.

Scrambled Egg and Shrimp Chow Fun

Back when they were still around, even though I never thought their food was particularly amazing, I used to visit the ABC Cafe that was here fairly often. Not regularly by any means, but certainly for one of the handful of go-to dishes I had discovered. Of course, it didn't hurt that their prices were rather budget friendly and they stayed open late into the night. Fast forward all of these years later and my experience with Fung Wong is almost entirely flipped - their breakfast options are what sparked us to come back again and again! Compared to its predecessor, Fung Wong looks and feels way more modern and clean. Similarly, the menu is a both larger and far more varied. In addition to their breakfast offerings, which includes jook, toast, and (noodle) soups, they also have a wide slate of Hong Kong cafe staples (baked dishes, risotto), HK BBQ meats, lunch specials, fried rice, noodle dishes, and a collection of family style options, like what you'd see at your typical neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Plus, they even have some house specialty dishes as well! -- BREAKFAST COMBO #C1 - Soy Sauce Chow Mein with Pork with Preserved Egg Porridge...$11.95 The Soy Sauce Chow Mein was largely forgettable, especially since it was served cold (I imagine they just portion out for a huge tray). The jook, on the other hand, was great. There was a fair amount of the preserved egg and porridge's consistency was just right. -- STEAMED BLACK RICE NOODLE with Shrimp...$7.95 Far and away, the best thing I've had here. It's essentially the same as your more traditional Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll, but with a slightly nutty flavor. Plus, the noodles were super tender and the shrimp had delicious sweetness to them. -- BREAKFAST COMBO #B1 - Satay Beef Noodle Soup & Hong Kong Milk Tea...$11.95 My first time having a dish like this and it wasn't too shabby! The beef was mostly fine, the noodles had a nice bite, and the broth packed a punch of flavor, especially with all of the onions and peppers. Also, it's hard for milk tea to stand out, but I liked this one (not heavy on milk). -- STEAMED BLACK RICE NOODLE with BBQ Pork...$7.95 The shrimp one was better, but that speaks to how impressive that one was rather than any problems this one had. For me, I just like rice rolls with shrimp better, as the taste of the BBQ Pork never comes out as well (loses it's crisp edges, for example). -- SPICY WONTONS (6pcs)...$9.95 Literally correct, but not what I expected either. The wontons were pretty good, but I was hoping this would be slathered with chili oil rather than the same sambal sauce that sits on every table. -- SCRAMBLED EGG & SHRIMP CHOW FUN...$16.95 This wasn't as good as what I used to get from one of my old go-to lunch spots, but this wasn't bad either. The portion was generous and came with a fair amount of shrimp, but there wasn't enough of the satay sauce/seasoning in it. -- TWO ITEM BBQ RICE PLATE with Roast Pork and BBQ Pork...$15.95 Nothing special, but nothing truly awful about this either. The skin on the Roast Pork could've been crispier, but it was juicy and seasoned well. As for the BBQ Pork, it was moist, though, it could've used a bit more char on the edges. -- POTSTICKERS (6pcs)...$10.95 The taste of this was pretty standard, which is fine, but I don't think it's worth the money. While the filling had a decently porky flavor, the amount of it felt disproportionate to the size of the wonton (lots of dead space inside). -- BEEF STEW & WONTON NOODLE SOUP...$14.95 Wontons? Great. Noodles? Good. Soup? Solid. Beef Stew? Possibly the worst I've had. The meat was so incredibly tough and dry, it felt like I was chewing on rubber. Even the portions with some fat that are usually tender were rather chewy. Beyond the food, the best thing about Fung Wong is probably the convenience. While there tends to to be a short line for breakfast on the weekends, it's never that long of a wait and the crowds thin out as the day goes on. By dinner time, there are always tables free and the service isn't bad either. The only thing really missing are the late night hours that ABC Cafe used to keep (they'd close at 3a and reopen at 7am), especially since most places in the Sunset close relatively early. Regardless if Fung Wong stayed open later, though, it wouldn't make me more likely to come back for dinner. Despite having only tried a handful of things from their regular dinner menu (and almost none of their HK Cafe options, for that matter), I can't say any of them has given me the urge to come back to try more. Rather, if/when I do return, it's far more likely that it'll be for their breakfast menu.

Meaty lobster yee noodles ask for price before ordering. The paper on wrong has wrong price. Slices of ginger.

This place was very busy. Families eating together as part of the Chinese New Year gathering. They were so busy that they didn't have room to put people. I got the lobster noodle. Don't look at that paper that said $23.99. The total came to $36 and you need to add tips. Supposedly, eating lobster noodles is a New year good luck. I was just getting it for someone who loves seafood. This is my 2nd time eating lobster this week. I got the Chinese New Year covered.

    Braised pig feet noodle soup

The mayor of Chinatown SF recommend this hole in the wall place in Noriega called Fung Wong. It's a popular restaurant to go to on the weekends. He suggested that I go before 11am to beat the crowd and avoid the long wait. If you come in the mornings, I recommend ordering from the breakfast sets available daily from 8am-11am. During this visit I got the braised pig feet set. It comes with your choice of beverage and carb ( rice noodle, fun, macaroni or lei fun). The braised pig feet was suckling, rich, savory, and tender. The broth was flavorful. So delicious! Thanks to the mayor of Chinatown SF for the recommendation. I'll be back for another visit soon.

Local joint in Outer Sunset....Noriega St to be exact. You know you are in a local joint with local style seating and serving when you walk in. Restroom = 1 person at a time. I am grateful to have learned of this place (Thank you Michael C/SFO) for introducing me to this place. here is the my story: Breakfaast choices in addition to regular menu: you have (4) choices, one of which is an "all american" breakfast with bacon and eggs. The other choices are ethnic meals; soup, noodles, each choice comes with a beverage of your choice. I had the pigs feet soup and it was delicious. The broth was not over powering in fact, it was decent and "clean" meaning no overage of spices.... and Iook fun was the noodle of my choice. You know you are in a popular restaurant as all the table were constantly occupied. I then realized why my dining partner suggested we go there EARLY... make sure we avoid the line. Street parking... be prepared to walk....

    Roasted Duck Wonton Soup
    Amy L.

Solid spot for lunch even though I live very far away. I usually come here for food before heading over to Daydream for cake and a drink. I came with my cousin and she got a Duck Wonton Soup. She seemed to enjoy it. I got a Roasted Duck with Tofu over rice buuut I seem to have gotten roasted pork instead? Roasted pork was fine but I would have been much happier with roasted duck. I didn't even notice until halfway through my dish because I was craving tofu that day and just focused on my tofu which was amazing. The tofu was soft and the sauce perfectly glazes the tofu and rice. I'm not a big meat eater so I gave most of my meat to my cousin.

Came here for the lobster noodles, as it was a special of the day and my partner did some searching and heard good things about Fung Wong's lobster noodles. Initially, I was very impressed with the taste of the noodles! Not overly salty and a good dollop of sauce drenching the noodles. Additionally, the ratio of noodle to lobster was sufficient, especially for the price. We also got a plate of walnut prawns which were mediocre. Portions weren't so much and flavor was okay. I think I'd stick with my go-to place for this dish next time. What made this experience sour were the waiters demanding more tip. What the heck? Since when were tips required to be 20%???? I found it incredibly strange and would not eat here again. My mom felt stifled and uncomfortable as the staff kept insisting she needed to give them more tip money. A very unsettling taste in the mouth and not great service in my opinion! If you provide great service, you will get a great tip. If you didn't bother to come by our table or provide us anything other than the dishes we ordered, what would implore us to give you a big tip? Anyways, I don't think I'd come back here to eat and I also would recommend folks to pay with cash if they do takeout as there were previous reviews saying that you could get tricked into paying for a tip without even knowing for a takeout order. Super strange. I think tipping culture is getting out of hand. TLDR; this place forces you to tip 20% and will shout at you until you give them that amount or more.

I actually didn't mind it at all because there was still enough space between everyone to have privacy. It also made the experience feel more social -- I ended up chatting with the people to my right and left about the food. Everything we ordered was really good. Their popular dry fried chicken absolutely lived up to the hype and was probably my favorite thing on the menu... besides the cherry pork. I feel like nobody talks about the cherry pork enough! It was SO good -- kind of like a sweet-and-sour pork without the sour. I dipped it in soy sauce because I loved the sweet and salty combo together. The dumplings were also really good. The wrapper was thin and delicious, but my boyfriend said he wished they had a little more protein filling and less leek. The green beans are always a hit. The only thing I probably wouldn't order again was the black bean sauce noodles. Maybe I just expected a different flavor, but to me they honestly tasted like regular lo mein. I'm also not a huge noodle person in general, so I'd probably skip them next time and order something else instead. Forgot to mention their prices are on point! Definitely recommend to any of the tourists. I think the weight is definitely worth it and I love being able to take home my leftovers and eating them for lunch and dinner the next day.

"Everything!" That's all one needs to say. At the entrance, clearly marked are signs reading, "Reservations" and "Walk-ins". Since we had reservations, we waited only a few minutes to get seated at the bar. The bar makes it easy to converse with your partner and to peer over as the fire from the range springs up from the kitchen. Our server brought us some "Free Bites" of roasted peanuts and smashed cucumbers. She was such a pleasant lady with quite the wit that made me laugh between courses. We ordered a full bottle of Negori sake. Note: if you do not finish the sake bottle, they cannot pack it to go for you, so drink up! Obviously, we couldn't order everything on the menu. For our first visit, we definitely wanted their special dish, Fried Squab. It was delicious! The meat was moist and the dipping salt with Sichuan peppercorn paired perfectly! Just don't focus too much on the visual... the head and claws. Hot Mustard Jellyfish Salad ~ I loved the "crunch" of the jellyfish and the hot mustard marinade was just spicy enough to start a slow burn up the nose. Beef Chow Fun Noodles ~ Delicious and so very savory. I was amazed at how flavorful this dish was without being salty. Clay Pot Rice w/Chinese Sausage & Bacon ~ Loved how the entire pot was seasoned nicely. The sauce did not only sit at the top, but penetrated deep down into the rice. XO Escargot w/Milkbread ~ I've only had French Escargot and these are just as good, if not better! Fish Fragrant Eggplant ~ Another savory and very umami dish. I joined with a group of friends and we tried many things on the menu. The highlights included the fried chicken and honey walnut prawns. Now let's talk about the food!! For dinner, we ordered the honey walnut chicken, broccoli beef, 606 house fried rice, and the pork dumplings. The walnut chicken came with halved walnuts and had a nice honey glaze to it that made it sweet but not overly sweet. For the broccoli beef, the broccoli was nicely cooked and the meat was very tender. We really enjoyed the 606 house fried rice. It wasn't overly fried like most places and felt fresh. The mixture of proteins was also tasteful. Now for the pork dumplings, the presentation was nice and also tasted great with nice hints of shrimp. We noticed the place became very busy but the service was still attentive. I recommend getting a reservation for larger parties or if you visit during peak hours. We aren't local or else this would be a regular place for us.

Went to this tea house first time over the weekend for Mother's Day…read more We reserved a table days in advance. We chose the outdoor table because of our dog. First off, great vibe and ambient. Modern decoration with touch of traditional Chinese accents. The food was 4 stars out of 5. -5 stars for presentation. -3.5 stars for the taste. The presentation is fancy and luxurious. We ordered both the scallops and abalone shui mai. The abalone is okay but the scallops ones are way better. We also ordered the lotus leaf with abalone. While it looks so fancy, the rice is really wet but not binding together. The flavor is lacking as well. The best dish was the Iberico cha siu (bbq pork). It was so tender and flavorful. All of their food would looks really good on IG but I personally prefer my food have wonderful taste than wonderful photos. The service was good overall but it is a little slow given how fancy the food looks like. Empty plates were not removed until requested or when new plates have nowhere to place. Price point wise..Definitely on the higher end but not too crazy especially this place is in the heart of SF. There is a parking structure next to the tea house but it gets challenging during the weekend. I would rather take ferry and grab a Lyft next time. Will I be coming back? Maybe but it will not be my top choice while I'm in SF. Will I recommend? Yes! You should absolutely try it for yourself!

There will be a little bit of a wait if you come at lunchtime, but the changing of tables is so quick, it's worth the wait. My table got many items to try out, including a number of dumplings and main dishes. We have no complaints! The servers were on top of their game, and every time a menu item was brought out, they would cross it out at the table, to ensure all our food was brought out. Each dish came out piping hot (especially the dumpling and wontons), and my favorite main dish was definitely the Braised Seafood + Tofu in Clay Pot. Pair that with some rice and your set. This place was such a vibe! Totally recommend; all our food came out quick --- everything was made-to-order, and they got nothing wrong. 10 out of 10!

Shops were starting to open up and we stumbled upon Hon's Wun-Tun House. We originally wanted to go to a different dumpling house but that one was closed at the time. As we peered into Hon's storefront window, we saw employees already busy making dumplings around 9am. We decided to give it a try and we were so happy we did! The servers were quick to seat us, give us water and take our orders using their tablets. We ordered the pan fried dumplings and the scallion pancakes. Everything was delicious! The dumplings had a good amount of filling and were hot and fresh. The scallion pancakes had plenty of scallions which I appreciated. I mean it wouldn't be scallion pancakes without the ample amount of scallions, right?! Lots of customers were having breakfast and I noticed many people ordered congee, so it must be one of their best sellers. Our bellies were satisfied and we were out of there in under 30 minutes. Bill came out to be about $23 after taxes and before tip. This place is great for a group of friends or families to sit down and have a meal while visiting Chinatown. The front of the restaurant has a kiosk to place orders as well (not sure if it's only for take-out orders). It's definitely a restaurant I would go back to when we are in the area again.

I'm thinking "o, I thought for happy hour I must be seated only at the bar, ok lets get a table instead then, maybe more comfortable." Got settled down and seated in the main dining room which was super loud. another server comes and I ask about happy hour menu and he said no that's at the bar only. so why were we ushered to this table? so I got out of that room and went to find myself a seat at the bar instead. bar is much quieter which is nice and more relaxing. for happy hour the ha gow and siu mai is about $1-2 off. coffee lava bun is good, gooey coffee filling inside and perfectly baked bun outside! 18% gratuity auto added onto all bills big beautiful space, especially outdoors with the ferry building view the cod is incredible. about $56 for half size and $100 for large size.
