I had a great lunch today at Ming Hing. I was getting acupuncture up the street and my acupuncturist recommended I check this place out. This place is so affordable and the food is so tasty! They operate both a sit down area and their counter service, so this place can feel a bit chaotic and loud. It doesn't really bother me, but don't expect it to be a quiet experience eating here. I ordered a Roast Duck with rice plate. I am always so intrigued by the way they make Cantonese style roast duck. It has such a delicious, savory flair to it and the meat is so moist and tender. I always ask for vinegar when ordering such fatty foods as this, and I actually love the sour taste with the meat. They serve the duck meat with a hefty amount of rice and cabbage. Recently moved to the area and this has quickly became one of my go-to restaurant for Cantonese food, though I mostly get them via Doordash. Good value, great portion and the food always arrived warm and tasty. So far I've tried most of their Chinese BBQ, my favorites are their Roast Duck, Soy Sauce Chicken and BBQ Pork. Last review of this place was 5 stars they have fallen down to 1 star because I can't give 0 stars. This place advertised they accept credit cards not only online like google and yahoo, but they even have the stickers in the window when you walk up telling you what form of payment they accept. Sticker shows all major credit cards accepted here!!! But the last two times we have tried to buy a whole duck from them they say cash only!! It has happened twice in two different months. I wanted to try their rice noodle rolls, but from what I noticed it looked like the ingredients were just placed on top of the rice rolls, rather than actually being rolled within the rice rolls. I guess it's an easier shortcut for them. Portion leans a bit on the smaller side, but not inadequate. Reasonably priced. Restaurant was clean. Workers were pretty friendly, especially compared to other restaurants of similar ilk. Apparently, they're known for their Chinese BBQ. I didn't get to try, but they did look good and legit. I love coming here for Chinese bbq. They have some of the best roast duck in the city! I usually order DoorDash to go and pick it up on my way home. It's usually ready quickly and I haven't had any issues. Just make sure you leave time to try to find a parking spot. The roast pork was also tasty and the skin was perfectly crispy and crunchy. My go-to for Peking duck. They have 2 options. The traditional whole roasted duck, and a spatchcocked version that they just call the "flat duck". The flat version has crisper skin than the traditional and is my favorite. A plate of that over rice with the customary cabbage....10/10. Most of the time, I don't even use the sauce, it's that good. Most workers here are most comfortable speaking Cantonese, so having a Cantonese speaker at this restaurant helps but definitely not mandatory! Roast Duck Over Rice ($11) - 4/5 The roast duck itself was fatty and flavorful, and this place hits the name on of keeping the skin crispy, while still making sure the duck itself is flavorful and moist. This is also served with a very generous bed of rice and some cabbage under the duck. Some of the duck pieces given did not have as much meat on them, but overall great value. Char Siu Rice Noodle Roll ($4.99) and Shrimp and Egg Rice Noodle Roll ($5.99) - 4/5 This place is known for their rice noodle rolls, and they make them fresh to order. The rice noodle rolls were silky smooth, and a bottle of sweet soy sauce was given to dip to your liking. I thought the egg gave the noodle rolls a new texture and a bit of flavor, but personally not worth an extra dollar. The shrimp was also not very generous and were on top of the rice noodle rolls instead of within the folds. Overall, a great local joint with great flavor and value! BEST cheung fun on San Bruno Ave in Portola! I think this is considered the home style (vs the rolled style at dimsum restaurants). The rice crepes have a nice chewy bounce to it and the meat is nice and tender. I preferred the minced beef over the pork but you can choose any topping you want, or multiple toppings in one cheung fun.
