Found this spot by chance as fam and I were hungry and didn't felt like cooking. It's a hole in a wall spot and it's what you see is what you get kind of place. Food is delicious and served in HUGE portions! They're a small place with buzzing crowds. They know their regulars by name which shows how long they've been there. 4/5 stars would recommend

Pork and preserved egg porridge
Bill P.

Order: Pork and preserved egg porridge: shredded pork that is a bit salt with egg that consist of jelly like texture. classic comfort food for a cold day or night. Rice noodle roll pot with braised beef stew: love the sauce, beef was sooo tender and rice rolls were soft with just a little bit of chewiness to it. There is tendon in this dish and you can ask for less if you want more meat Fried bread and fried donut: must orders for the porridge, fried bread is sweet and the fried donut is salty. Crispy exterior that felt fresh Original place used to be in San Francisco. Prefer this location instead of one further down south. This place is known for their porridge, rice rolls and fried delights. We were seated right away in a booth, there are about 4 booths on each side of the restaurant with tables in the middles. Authentic restaurant in this busy street, parking is metered in front of. There are closed for a few hours between lunch and dinner

Every time I come to SF, my mom brings us here as a must eat. The flavors are authentic and you can't find any place like this in LA. We came in on a Friday night and all the tables were filled. We were seated within 5 minutes of entering. They offer street parking but it was pretty difficult to find any. We ended up circling around and found a parking structure close by. They offer a weekday special where if you order $68+, they give you half a chicken or soy chicken. Unfortunately, they ran out of soy chicken for the night so we got the regular chicken instead. The fried donut is a must try. These were my favorite and you can't find anything like this. If you want to try a clay pot, I'd recommend ordering it first before analyzing the rest of the menu because it does take 30 minutes for them to prepare. Everything was delicious and this would be my favorite local spot.

Suspicious fish in my congee

Hubby & I dropped in for lunch today after a Costco run nearby. We were in a mood for comfort food after being out of the country for several weeks. Pros - * we were greeted immediately and instructed where to sit. * Menus and hot tea walked over. * Hubby's beef chow fun with gravy had plenty of beef and great wok flavor. * My fish congee came sizzling hot in a cast iron bowl. * Very generous portions where we actually shared. And we rarely share. Cons - * Once we decided on what to order it was a wait. And wait. And wait. We flagged a waiter. I noticed this with other patrons that also needed to flag a waiter down. * the fish in my fish congee was weird. It never flaked. Was rubbery and slimy. Was it actually fish? I picked all the fish out. When we were done we flagged down the waiter for our check. We boxed up our leftover chow fun. Paid cash and left satisfied. I'd come again but skip the fish.

Came here for take out of Singapore curry rice noodles which comes with pork and shrimp at 11:30 on a Friday afternoon. since they open at 11 many of the tables were filled with regulars or folks waiting for their take out. Bill came to $19.77 and it was nice the cashier informed me that there would be a 3% additional fee if I charged with a card which I ended up paying with cash. Did not see any signage about the 3% fee but it was nice I was informed before paying. Solid Hong Kong Cantonese cafe and will come back again if I'm not wanting Mexican food from El Farolito up the block.

Lamb pot

We come to hing ling in ssf a few times a month, and it is one of our regular go-to spots. During our last visit, we asked a waitress if there were any special dishes for the holiday season. She highly recommended the soy sauce chicken and the lamb pot. Both dishes were absolutely delicious!i would highly recommend both the soy sauce chicken and the lamb pot to everyone, especially those who enjoy lamb and chicken.

Tofu and Bok Choy

A standard Cantonese restaurant with decent food but pretty sure the quality could've been a lot better. I came here with my family before an overnight flight to Asia and immediately felt sick afterwards. Everything we ordered seemed incredibly greasy so there was so much oil and sauce slathered on everything. My family decided to order everything vegetarian (and I can't 100% confidently say it was vegan despite asking) but our gai lan, noodles, and tofu dish was just full of salt and oil. After a while, my stomach started hurting and the only thing that curbed it were the complimentary sliced oranges to end the meal. I can't say I loved the experience (and the service left much to be desired, even as a family that speaks Canto) so I won't be returning unless family decides to take us here, which was why we came in the first place.

G4. Rice Noodle with Chicken in Fish Broth
Chelsea N.

Good value for what you're paying. Hainanese chicken over rice noodles in fish broth (7/10) - broth didn't really have a rich fish taste. Chicken was tender and well marinated. Had to add lots of white pepper for a kick. The restaurant is tiny and had only 10 tables! Could tell that this is a local spot.

I appreciate how well they season their dishes without overdoing it. Nothing feels overly salty, which is rare since a lot of Chinese food tends to be heavy on salt. Hing Lung keeps it balanced, and it really elevates the dining experience. I leave feeling satisfied, not bloated or overly thirsty.

Beef congress serves 4

Parking on meters free after hours or nearby parking lot. Food is tasty and Hong Kong style. Beef congee was thick tasty, beef slices, ginger, scallions. Very steamy hot. Soy sauce chicken was average, free range chew. Beef curry had sinewy beef, very tough beef to my taste, tasty curry gravy. General Tso chicken good tangy flavor, deep fried chicken in sweet sauce on bed of broccoli was excellent. Beef chow fun was average. Not too salty as I like it. Service ice reasonably quick. Ambiance was ice family Cafe, run like mom and pop cafe. Overall, we liked food, 4 stars out of 5.

Party tray menu August 2025
Jasmin C.

Ordered a small party tray of cha siu (bbq pork) chow mein and they charged me $65 instead of the $55 listed? Chow mein was good though, and it was a hit at my work potluck. Pretty standard Chinese restaurant. Have enjoyed their other locations my whole life.

L7. H.K. Style Beef Chow Fun

Update: It's been a while since dining here. I heard from a few friends that the food has changed and most likely there is a new chef. We took a chance thinking how bad can the food be? Well, some dishes were not good, while others were edible, but not like it used to be. HK-STYLE BEEF CHOW FUN ~ This dish lacked the smokey flavor (wok hay) and color. The bean sprouts were barely cooked like it was an afterthought or they almost forgot to put them in. Disappointing. 3/5 BRAISED PORK AND PRESERVED MUSTARD GREEN IN POT ~ The pork was so dry, it was almost inedible. Actually, I took one bite and left the rest on my plate. The meat used was too lean! Usually, it's fatty and tender, so it'll melt in your mouth. Maybe this dish just needed to be cooked even longer or they need to buy better meat. Won't order this again! 1/5 SEA COCONUT CONCH STEWED CHICKEN SOUP ~ It's soup! You really can't screw this one up? It tasted okay. It wasn't salty, but flavorful and it tasted clean. 4/5 STIR-FRIED MINCED PORK WITH STRING BEANS IN XO SAUCE ~ This dish was okay, though it was a bit salty and some of the beans seemed overcooked. The pork could have been chopped up a bit more. 3/5 SAMPAN CONGEE ~ A bit bland, but it's ok for congee. Hing Lung is known for their congee, so it was expected to be decent. 4/5 CLAYPOT RICE WITH ASSORTED CURED MEATS ~ This dish takes an extra 30 minutes to prepare. However, it came to us without the crispy rice on the bottom. We asked them to heat it more so the rice would be crispy, like it should be. They said the rice would burn and it should be fine as is. Because we insisted, they proceeded to check whether it needed to be cooked longer. The rice was white on the bottom and not even light brown! They took it back for another 15-20 minutes. After it was cooked more, it was better, but I think if the chef added some oil to the pot before putting in the rice and meat, it would have crisped up the rice quicker and it would have tasted better too. By the time this was back on our table, we were done with dinner. 3/5 It's unfortunate to update my review and take away 2 stars. I would only come here for their congee. But I can make my own congee at home, if I had all the ingredients. I think I'll stick to their San Bruno location where the food has been consistently good and satisfying. Sadly, I won't be coming back to this location unless things change.

I've been a big fan since I was little when the original Hing Lung was in Chinatown sf. When they reopened this location we been coming every weekend highly recommend their fried chicken wings, fresh liver and meat ball congee, pork and preserved egg congee. We always pair the congee with their fried bread and fried donut (the sweet one)

From the siu mai to the har gow and BBQ pork buns, everything tastes authentic and delicious. The restaurant is spacious, lively, and perfect for family meals or weekend brunch. Service is efficient even when they're busy, and the staff keeps the carts moving so there's always something amazing coming by the table. What I really love is the value, generous portions, great quality, and reasonable prices compared to many other dim sum places around the Bay. You can tell why this place stays popular. If you're craving classic dim sum done right, Grand Palace is definitely worth the visit. Highly recommend!

I don't eat porridge often, usually when really under the weather so I'm fortunate to not gone to get some in a while. I called my pickup order since I didn't see an online option. The store front is Ichi Ramen so it's confusing in case you get lost in the busy plaza. I ordered shrimp, fish and plain porridge (congee) along with beef chow fun. 4 dishes total. Total came out to under $60 and it was a heavy bag! The porridge has a nice thick consistency without being runny. It had flavor to not need seasoning and surprisingly large portions of seafood. The chow fun was decent but I've definitely tasted better. Kinda pricy at $18 though the beef slices were big. I appreciated it wasn't as oily as other chow fun I've had so easy to eat without feeling kinda gross after. Solid value, good food, and worth a rec for porridge. All in all, I'd definitely return. 4.5 stars.

For some proteins, it is advisable to get an extra bowl to remove the protein as it will overcook in the crazy hot congee. The sliced beef congee comes out perfect so they must either add it to the hot congee rare or even raw so it ends up cooking perfectly. The friend Chinese donut was crispy and airy, slightly oily so fryer oil may have needed to be hotter and fry cook need to slow down and let oil temp recover. Place does get busy quick and may need to wait for a table though.
