Wongs Cafe redid the floor and painted the bars white. It's cozy and clean and the waitress is friendly. The portions are generous- the fried sesame chicken is saucy and crispy- even after boxing up the dinner leftovers it's crispy hours later (for that late night sweet/savory/crunchy snack) And confession time, I grew up in a house with security bars over every single window. Seriously, EVERY window! So eating here is a sentimental homie hood experience, like it adds more value to the meal! My husband ordered takeout from here because a friend had recommended it. But probably should have checked reviews and photos as it's only a few items that seem to be on repeat. We ordered Korean chicken wings - the sauce was extra starchy and thick. Flavor was lackluster. The wing itself was fine, good size. Peking pork chop - oh man this...was so disappointing. It tasted soo strongly of a vinegar tart flavor and again very starchy thick sauce. Both items were sooo off in flavor. I ate to eat, but bleh sadly they were both not good. The beef was pretty good and the barbecue pork was okay. But the barbecue pork had a little bit of an aftertaste, and there was one piece of beef that was actually cold in the middle so I suspect it was cooked from frozen and they hadn't fully heated all of it up internally. The server was helpful, talking about all our allergy concerns, but in the end, my friend with a seafood allergy. They let us know there is just a little bit of oyster sauce, which is not too bad for my friend. But they still felt a little bit of tingling so we suspect there was more oyster sauce in the food than they let on. The restaurant was pretty empty, but it sometimes still took a little longer to get the server's attention, maybe because there are a lot of takeout orders. Very good Chinese fast food restaurant in Colma! They gave us complimentary tea which is a teapot with a black tea bag. We ordered the honey walnut shrimp chow mein $14 and black bean fish with rice $12. We really appreciated how they gave us separate plates to share the big portions and the fortune cookies at the end. Seems like the menu and forks cater more to an American crowd since they didn't give us chopsticks. The people who worked there know Cantonese. The food came out very fast and it had a yummy meal. We stopped here after dropping off my teen son at In and Out. We had and hankering for Chinese, so we dropped and ran! We stopped here planning to bring food home for other family members, so we bought a LOT! We had chicken chow fun, fried calamari, black bean beef, chicken and vegetables, sweet and sour pork, chicken won ton soup, and house fried rice. The table was too small for our order, but everything came hot and fresh and fast! It was all good, with nice crisp vegetables, tender meats, and sauces all seasoned just right. There is interior seating but it's greasy spoon vibe. Wong's Cafe when I came on a late Sunday afternoon was very busy with takeout orders, and my walk-in order was ready within 15 minutes. Street parking can be tight. My order consisted of a Chow Fun with BBQ Pork that was well made and contained a generous amount of meat. The Beef with Bean Cake was good and again had lots of meat though I prefer the dish with Firm or Extra Firm Tofu. I can happily say the cooking is still spot on. read more

Wong's Cafe is still good for what it is, friendly, American-Chinese food. I'm still amazed at the hundreds of different dishes their little kitchen puts out. I like how you can substitute the rice dishes to chow mein or fried rice for an extra $2. Their kitchen made my dish in less than five minutes. Tonight I had their #140 fried salt & pepper fish with chow mein $13.50. The batter for the fried salt and pepper fish was a bit hard. The chow mein had too much soy sauce. My preference is less salt taste as it leaves a lingering taste hours after the meal. Regardless, service was friendly and the food tasted fine. read more

The crab rangoons were also my favorite here by far the best I've had tbh. I would skip on the peking pork chops it was just more fatty to me. It's a cash only spot but they do take venmo! A hole in the wall Cantonese Hong Kong style cafe tucked away on the corner of Hillside. This was my first time here as I wanted a place close by where I could eat and be in and out within an hour. Arriving around 12:45 I was seated in a corner table adjacent to what looked liked their storeroom which was fine as I wanted to have some privacy while eating. Upon entering the small kitchen area is behind the cashier area and like others had mentioned, one can smell and see the cooks making the food. Beef chow fun was plentiful with a good amount of beef along with adequate portions of bean sprouts, onions and green onions. On the other hand, I wish the dish had some more flavor as I ended up putting shiracha sauce on my dish. Luckily I had cash as I did not know while eating and look at the Yelp reviews that they only take cash. Will probably come back again when I want some Hong Kong style Cantonese food. read more

This is a most reasonably priced restaurant which makes superior Chinese foods. I try to patronize them always when I'm in town, I want them to stay in business! We always seem to order takeout from them but that's because we're normally dining with a lot of people and it's more comfortable to simply order out and bring to friends house to share along with what someone else brings. Parking is challenging if you don't bring someone else to pickup the orders. I also noticed that they do a huge amount of takeout as evidenced by the huge staging area for their takeout orders. We ordered the Singapore rice noodles but asked them to give us a lot less shrimp in the order, we're not a fan of shrimp and they seem to have a lot of shrimp in their orders, we love the rice noodles but shrimp not so much. We also ordered the salty fish with chicken fried rice, now that's comfort food. They do a fantastic job with this dish along with the great job they do with every dish they make. Truth be told, I don't think I've ever eaten inside this place more than twice in the decades that I've gone here growing up as a kid. Wong's Cafe for me, is memories. Memories of Friday nights with my parents and my brother and the comfort that Mongolian beef, salt and pepper pork chops, and honey walnut shrimp bring. The egg fried rice is like a hug on a plate. That was our Friday night dinner - - always to go, eaten in front of the 13" tube TV on the kitchen counter. Had to come back for this delicious Chinese food! I opted for the all day rice plates subbed with fried rice and chow mein. I did order pretty early through the phone around 11:30am. When I arrived, the food was ready. The mongolian beef was tender and delicious. It's one of my favorites from here. Sadly, the fried rice was a little hard, maybe old from last night or overcooked. The general chicken was a first time try for me and it was really good! It had a sweetness to the glaze that was on the chicken and overall really enjoyed it. My bf insisted on buying us a nice takeout dinner so I scoured Yelp to find somewhere since I really wasn't familiar with what was good in the area. After placing a decently sized order of 6 or so items, i was pleasantly surprised to hear that the order would be ready in just 15 minutes. Talk about efficiency!! Came for the first time last week because my husband said there should be pretty good Chinese cuisine in this area if I'm ever here. I yelped a few places and chose this place because of 4.5 stars and proximity to where I was. I ordered 5 dishes: beef chow fun, honey walnut shrimp, Wong's fried rice, salt/ pepper fish and salt/pepper pork. We were overall extremely happy with the taste and the portions were large. For a hole in the wall place like this, I expected the food to be greasy but it wasn't at all. I thought we would have leftovers but it was so good we ate all of it in one day haha Very surprised and impressed by it all and will recommend this place to friends and family and come back here anytime I'm in the area. This a hole in the wall on the corner of the street that I almost totally passed by. I found this place via fellow Yelp reviewers when looking for a place for lunch for my family after visiting the nearby cemetery. They have indoor dining available but not a lot tables but we went on a weekday for lunch and had no problem getting a table. The service here is fantastic! The 2 guys helping us were very attentive and friendly and making sure we were comfortable and that the food was ok. The prices are also reasonable and the portions are very good. So they definitely have good going for them. There's a lot of items to choose from including lunch specials with rice. We did family style and ordered the following: Beef chow fun: lighter in color than I am used to but that was fine. Not too greasy. Honey walnut shrimp: great crunch to these and the shrimp were much bigger than expected Salt and pepper pork: a lot of pieces and nicely fried but more meat for each piece would have been nice. Also tasted like sugar might have been added. The food was fresh and hot and good but not great but I wasn't expecting it to be great for this price point. I would come back again. The literal definition of a hole in the wall restaurant! I've driven by here before but didn't even notice there was a restaurant in this area until I found it on Yelp. The prices are so fair, they have $10 plates all day, this price is basically unheard of for a meal nowadays! Their portions are also crazy huge and all of the food is freshly made to order. The food came out within 10 minutes after I ordered, the people here are all super kind and quick. Salt and pepper pork chop: I ordered this with extra jalapeno and it was so delicious. It came out crispy and hot & had the perfect amount of seasoning. The pork pieces were abundant but they were smaller than the typical salt & pepper pork chop you'd get elsewhere. Honey walnut shrimp: The shrimp pieces were so big and juicy!! The seasoning was sweet and creamy but I do wish there were a few more walnut pieces. Overall I'd definitely come back to try their other dishes! This is a-small hole- in the wall place which had surprisingly good food ( we only ordered 3 dishes: beef chow fun; Wong special fried rice; fried pork ribs), pretty large portions at good price point. We ordered to go. It was ready for pick up in about 20 minutes. We went on a Saturday about 4- 4:30pm so it wasn't crowded yet. There is only street parking. Got the salt and pepper fish rice plate with fried rice and shrimp chow mein to go and both were very satisfying to have with a large portion enough to be split into two meals and under $30. Was out with my mom and she was craving Chinese food for lunch. I looked on Yelp and saw this restaurant had good reviews. So we went and tried it out. We were glad we did. It seems like at lunch, at least, this a popular place to order take out. The people there were very friendly. We were sat at the warmest table in the restaurant. They have a large number of lunch plates at very reasonable prices. I got the sweet and sour pork rice plate. I got it with fried rice at a small up charge. My mom got the honey walnut prawns with chow mein. The portions were very generous. I enjoyed my pork, as it was freshly cooked and had a slight crunch under the sauce. Wong's Cafe has been around for years. It was always our go to when we had parties. Back then, we would order party trays for any party we had our was attending. There has been a sketch in ownership I believe, but the food is still delicious and the prices are reasonable. When we dine in, the staff is always smiling and helpful.
