Popcorn Chicken (hot and spicy)

Came here with my twin brother, in search of some jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), but when we saw our neighboring table's jjajang rice...we were intrigued...but we got the elevated version aka the jjajang FRIED rice baby! Overall this place got some good food and good service, also enough food for literally 2 full or 3 smallish meals. For you gym rats that meal prep for a week, try this place because it will be enough sustenance to last you through 2, maybe 3 intense workout sessh.

Well...I typically enjoy coming to Chick & Jajang, but today's lunch experience with mom was a departure from what I have experienced. We arrived early to beat the lunch rush, yet somehow, being the first in the door didn't translate to being served. S E R V I C E : The service today was, frankly, bizarre. Despite the restaurant being quiet, we were left sitting without water or the standard banchan. I found myself repeatedly having to flag down staff. What made it particularly jarring was watching patrons at surrounding tables receive "white-glove," speedy service (and even a pitcher of water!) while we were left seemingly invisible. The recurring theme of the afternoon was the staff's refrain: "Oh, we have a new menu, sorry!" As an experienced diner, I can appreciate the growing pains of a menu launch, but three new dishes shouldn't paralyze a team's ability to pour water or bring a check. It felt like a convenient scapegoat for a lack of attentiveness. F O O D: The food was strictly "middle of the road" this visit. There was a notable lack of precision in the kitchen; we ordered the chili chicken, but it was served as the original. Rather than a proper redo, the sauce was simply brought out on the side. It's a functional fix, but I would've just asked for all the sauces on the side then if that was the case. (I didn't want to push my luck in case something would happen in the back of the kitchen to our food) Anyway...I'm all about supporting local spots, but the optics today were not great. When you see every other table being served while you're struggling to get the bill, it's hard not to feel like you're nothing. If you're rolling out a new menu, the hospitality needs to be tightened. I'm hoping this was just a one-off "off" day, but for now, the experience left a bit of an off putting taste.

Service is great and they offer kimchi / radish sides that are refillable upon request! Weekday dine in is relatively light so you'll be seated almost immediately. JaJjangmyeon (Korean black bean noodles) was very top tier!.... Besides the popcorn chicken that was literally in a pool of "soy garlic sauce". I've always had good experiences here but for some reason they decided to not just toss the marinate into a bowl to mix with the chicken but pour it directly on parchment paper that'll just create a mess for the server after the meal? Yeah... that needs to be fixed! I'll definitely be coming back for the noodles but that's pretty much it. I'm kind of scared to go back for their Korean fried chicken (bone-in) if that's how they'll make this

I love the convenience of it being in the Westlake plaza and the service is quick and friendly. Pretty solid spot for jajangmyun and tangsooyuk. Huge points for sauce on side as default for tangsooyuk for dipping so the pork strips stay crispy.

Side soup of jampong

Waiter walked up and offered us any table we wanted. Super friendly guy, memorized our order. Nice and simple, hearty and tasty. The side soup of jampong was only $3. Well worth the price for all that flavor and there was plenty of substance in it. The fried chicken was super juicy and crisp. The glaze was perfect and there's plenty of it on the bottom to dip into. Kimchi fried rice was solid. Place looks like an old school donut shop with a couple booths and a bench along the side. One of my fave spots at westlake. Will be coming back

Grape & Watermelon Iced Teas were so yummy

The inside was smaller than expected with 4 booth seats and 4 tables on the opposite side. It looked like a small diner. The service was excellent, the server was pretty attentive and had good suggestions when we asked about the menu items. I'm not sure if that was because we were seated at the booth right next to the register/kitchen. The food takes awhile to prep so we got our dishes in intervals. We ordered the fried dumplings, which were ok, but our daughter seemed to like them. We also got the plain chicken katsu for our daughter which was pretty good and a sizable portion. My husband had the Ja-Jang-Myeon and he said it was ok. I had the Rose Spicy Rice Cake and added cheese. Luckily it wasn't too spicy for me because I'm weak when it comes to spicy food, but it was also just ok flavor-wise. I wasn't too impressed with it. I think I was half expecting it to have more tteok-bokki, but there was only a few in it. But the real star of this place was the Korean Fried Chicken. We got the sauce on the side because our daughter prefers hers plain, but it was so good! Nice and crunchy and the inside of the chicken was pretty juicy. That was probably my favorite thing we had here. We also loved the grape and watermelon iced teas. The grape was a little sweeter than the watermelon but still good. Overall this place was ok.

Back to this place for lunch in Daly City. The Korean fried chicken was sooo good. The back bean noodles, or Ja-Jang-Myu, have always been consistent. The Carbonara Spicy Rice Cake has the perfect amount of spice. The fried seaweed roll was surprisingly. The service was ok, just had to move the table and sat directly in front of the door. The ambiance is always the same, but the key is that the food is consistent.

Fried chicken wings, soy garlic and kimchi fried rice

Best food ever!!! Service was great and love the table by the window. We ordered the kimchi fried rice and fried chicken wings, soy garlic. Both were soooo yummy! Best kimchi fried rice and chicken was so crunchy and tasty!!! I loved it!!! It's my 4th time there and I am always satisfied whatever I order. Will keep coming back here for an authentic Korean food.

Been here soo many times and also got food doordashed from here. They keep the jjangmyeon fresh when you get it doordash and they also include side dishes with the online order so thats pretty nice. There has not been one time where I didn't order the jjangmyeon. It's good every single time. The soy garlic chicken is also pretty good. It's just your regular soy garlic though, nothing out of this world. I probably would not get the jjang fried rice again. It was overwhelming for me. There were too many flavors going on. It's pretty quiet in the restaurant (at least the times I've been). I like how close they late. Been here after a rave and it rejuvenated me lol. Definitely a good pick-me-up spot.

Chicken katsu
Priyanka S.

After going to a concert at Shoreline we decided to get some Korean fried chicken and one of the spots still open was Chick and Jajang in Daily city. The restaurant is decently sized with quite a few tables inside and we were seated instantly. The lighting is quite bright inside the restaurant so it definitely woke us back up. We decided to order the Soy & Garlic KFC which is 7 pc for $14.95, and we also decided to order the Chicken katsu as well as a peach Korean tea, and everything smacked! The chicken was incredibly juicy and crispy with the perfect amount of sweetness in every bite of the sauce and the katsu was incredibly fatty and delicious. This was also my first time trying out Korean peach tea and it was incredibly strong and tasted like I was eating a peach mixed with oolong. Very delicious!

Cute small spot for korean fried chicken & other korean comfort food! We tried the fried chicken (soy & garlic and another flavor) and the half jjampong half jjajangmyeon. Everything was pretty good! I enjoyed the jjajangmyeon a lot. The jjampong was a little too spicy for me but the ingredients were yummy and diverse (squid, onion, mussels, noodles, pork, bok choy). The chicken breading was pretty thick and it's a little expensive ($17 for 7 pc). Service was great and super friendly. It took a little longer since it was only one person walking around but it wasn't too bad. A decent amount of seating inside as well. They also do takeout!

Ask the Community - Chick & Jajang

Are any of the noodle dishes available without meat?

Not on the menu at least. I believe 1 or 2 of the sauces are made when ordered so potentially, those could be made without meat.

Do they still sell broaster chicken in addition to that great menu?

No, they don't (different owner).
