Excellent service and vibe. Beautiful design that doesn't seem to concern itself with the regular social media inspired design aesthetic that most newer restaurants try to meet, and instead is steeped in history and their own personal culture and style. There is a magic to this place, it has a strong sense of self. It knows what it is, what they are about, and seem to hold themselves to very high standards. We went as a group of four and shared everything. I will say there was barely a dish that didn't exceed our expectations (of which we had many). Getting bored with the homogeneity of most restaurants but will come back here again and again. read more

Do not go here. This restaurant is a scam. Besides the design which is very pretty, there is nothing worth going to the restaurant. The food you can tell is not 100% in house made. Things have texture of the microwave & store bought. I have no problem spending money on food (I am born and raised in the west village) but their prices and quality do not match. $30 something dollars for a tiny bowl of dumplings ?? A plate of store bought pickled veggies is the most insane thing to me.. The energy in Taiga is tense and awkward. They have Russian music playing which I understand but it's also not loud enough to the point I feel staff/owner is listening to my conversation. I felt the waiter (owner) was standing too close / staring at us , non stop filling my water to the point it was excessive ! Also something about the energy felt dark , not really sure. Although I will share this.. the owner seems to be the waiter and he is collecting tips?? Hello- that's illegal. ODD. First of all, the plethora of one star reviews are clearly a group with some kind of vendetta against this restaurant and I encourage you to ignore them. I'm surprised that Yelp is allowing this. Went there for the first time tonight. It's a beautifully and lovingly decorated little restaurant, evergreen boughs hanging, cool antiques and interesting pictures. Cool Russian music was blasting and added great atmosphere. The food is DELICIOUS. The blinis and pancakes authentic and recommended. Do not miss the Siberian meatballs, perfectly done. The braised beef was the only weak thing we ate and the owner took the charge off without being asked. Both the waitress and the chef /owner (?) were lovely and nice. We ate very early, didn't realize it was movie night and they had just started Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. One piece of advice I would give, we hadn't tried this restaurant yet this ski season because of the relatively draconian cancellation policy on Resy and Open Table. With this much local competition it's a good bet that some aren't booking when they can get a more easily cancelled reservation at another great place. Warren St has become a food mecca. Taiga may just be the best restaurant we've ever been to. Coming in you feel like you've just walked into a snug, secret little hideaway in 19th century Czarist Russia. The ambience is very cozy, lots of dark wood, red lighting, inviting bar, posters on the walls both of historic figures and glamour shots from the professional work of the fashion photographer turned chef. Only about 10 tables in two rooms. It's enchanting, a little mysterious, and just draws you in and makes you want to spend hours there. The staff couldn't be more warm, friendly, or attentive. We felt like family being welcomed home to dinner. The menu is both exotic but also as appealing as comfort food. An appetizer of blini (thin pancakes) with salmon caviar and smoked salmon could make a light meal in itself, served with sour cream and dill. The blini were perfect, thin, soft but with a touch of chewiness, a very hard combination to achieve in something paper-thin. The salmon caviar was fresh and delicious. Borscht (traditional beet soup) was full of yummy vegetables, savory, filling, with a dollop of sour cream and dill on top. It was served with absolutely amazing dark bread, heavy, dense, full of flavor, and traditional Russian smoked bacon on the side. It was wonderful, the best we've ever had. The borscht and sides are a meal in itself. Several of the main courses were variations of pelmeni, dumplings similar to tortellini. We enjoyed a special that evening, filled with salmon, topped with salmon caviar. It was fabulous! A dish of half dozen of them was more than enough to share and left us feeling too full for dessert. The taiga tea is not to be missed. It's an herbal infusion, the menu described it as having 30 ingredients and we believed it. Apples, cranberries, pomegranate seeds, mint leaves, rosemary, spruce tips, and about two dozen other fruits, berries, and herbs. It tasted like a 'forest' tea, an infusion of everything delicious that grows wild in Siberia and more. We wish we had room to sample some of the desserts, like 'bird's milk' cake, or syriniki farmer's cheese pancakes with berries, but we were just too full! It was a fabulous experience. It felt homey and comfortable, as well as exotic and captivating at the same time. Especially on a cold and rainy night, we felt transported to someplace glamorous. Taiga is unlike almost any restaurant you're likely to encounter, the atmosphere, the waitstaff, and the food. It's exciting but also relaxing and comforting at the same time. A few days prior to Valentine's Day, my wife and I had made a reservation for a table here, under the designation of a standard dinner. When we came, we were under the impression that there would be a regular menu and a special "prix fixe" menu, since the two were distinguished on the reservation site, and we chose the former. I had thought that we would have to leave, since, frankly speaking, the prix fixe for two people would have been a significant blow to our personal finances. But after a brief discussion with a couple of the people there, including our waiter and (I think?) the owner, we felt comfortable staying and sharing a single prix fixe course. I don't know if the portions were increased on this basis, but they struck me as generous. I didn't care for the dessert, which was the honey cake, but I don't care for dessert in general, and that seemed to us the least sweet of the options. For the appetizer we had the pancake-like items (blini? or maybe they were a variant), plus roe, salmon, creme fraiche + dill; and for the main course we had the mushroom julienne -- so full of flavor. For our drink we opted for the (iirc) Taiga tea set, which we enjoyed right until the end of our meal. I think, for both of us, what really elevated this visit was not only the feeling that we were still welcome despite the reservation confusion (in other places, this might be viewed as stinginess on our part), but the friendliness and timeliness of the service and the warm atmosphere. I especially liked how dried herbs are used as a sort of decoration above the bar and around the ceiling. Admittedly, since we had an early reservation, this was before most anyone else had arrived, so perhaps we had the benefit of extra-special attentiveness. We came here for Sunday brunch and had a great experience. The service was amazing--super friendly and welcoming staff. I'm originally from Siberia and pretty picky with Russian food, but this place really impressed me. We had vinaigrette salad and pelmeni, and the pelmeni completely stole my heart--so good, I could eat them nonstop (wish they sold them frozen so I can buy and cook at home!). We also loved the Taig tea, crepes with salmon, and Napoleon dessert. Everything was delicious. Definitely worth the trip and highly recommend! read more

I wouldn't normally write this type of review had this been a normal dinner, however for a $120 pre-fix this level of service was shocking, not only for our table but for all our neighboring tables too. We arrived on time for a pre-fixe meal and were told to leave and come back in 20 minutes, which we were okay with given it was Thanksgiving. Once seated, service was completely disorganized. Drinks were forgotten or incorrect, orders were taken twice, and our mains arrived before our starters--lukewarm. One starter came out cold, and the salad arrived 20 minutes later with ingredients that weren't listed the menu. At 5:45pm they were already out of one of the mains (Turkey, on Thanksgiving) and didn't tell people this until they were already seated and having ordered. We didn't even receive the dessert before our check, and it was the wrong order. The tables around us were having the same issues: long waits, missing drinks, spilled drinks on guests with no apologies, and no one checking in. Guests with reservations were left standing at the door for ages only to be told to come back 45min later. When we asked for the check, they brought the wrong bill and then insisted we hadn't prepaid, even after we showed our credit card statement. They had us write down our phone number twice on 2 separate checks. I feel for some of servers who were obviously stressed. Management was not ready to deliver an upscale prefixe menu. read more

I wouldn't wish a trip to this restaurant on my worst enemy. We had a reservation that we arrived on time for. We stood in the doorway with two other separate groups of guests, waiting to be seated. A handful of servers looked at us without any acknowledgment and continued to ignore us for close to 15 minutes. They acted as if we were bothering them by showing up to our dinner reservation. Another group waited outside in the cold because there was nowhere else to stand while waiting to be seated. The restaurant had an absolutely rancid vibe. For starters, there was a disgusting smell in the air. I have never smelled anything remotely close to it and hope to never again. It was like a combination of fish, rotting meat, and chemicals or cleaning supplies, think bleach but worse. There was no music playing, despite live music being advertised in the original OpenTable booking. Nobody at any of the tables seemed to be speaking or enjoying themselves. It felt like we had walked into someone's house unannounced. You could cut the tension with a knife, and I would have if I had been seated with silverware at that point. As the night went on, it became obvious that everyone in the restaurant was angry and disappointed. Instead of the usual Thanksgiving warmth and gratitude, that ^ was the vibe, and understandably so. Once we were finally seated, we noticed our table was dirty. The silverware still had food on it and the tablecloth was stained. Considering how much we paid, this was unacceptable. We felt uncomfortable even talking to each other since the restaurant was silent aside from the sound of silverware on plates. A server brought empty cups to our table, no water. She never asked if we wanted tap, still, or sparkling. She never came back, despite passing our table multiple times. We tried to get her attention, but it again felt like we were purposely being ignored. This is especially wild given the small size of the restaurant. When I say she walked by our table, I mean she was inches away and could absolutely hear us. We waited over 20 minutes before someone else finally acknowledged us. He told my friend to "go," meaning to order. No apology, no acknowledgment of the wait, not even a happy Thanksgiving. Terrible attitude and service. My friend asked for glasses of water and drinks before ordering. He said he wanted to get food orders in first and would bring drinks later. He never did. Annoyed, we started ordering from the prix fixe menu we had already paid for. Since it was Thanksgiving, we all wanted the turkey. The server told us the restaurant was sold out of the Thanksgiving dinner entirely, including the turkey. Our reservation was at 6:30 pm, not late by any means. This was never communicated to us. The entire ordeal could have been avoided if we had been told this while standing in the doorway. At that point, I'd had enough. I told him we came specifically for the Thanksgiving dinner and wanted a refund so we could leave. He rudely replied that they had been open since 8 am, as if that justified being sold out. Who is eating turkey dinner for breakfast? There was zero apology or empathy. He then offered salmon or deer. On Thanksgiving. After insisting on a refund, he claimed the OpenTable booking was just a hold and not an actual charge. That was false. I showed him my bank statement and the OpenTable receipt. He told me to text both to him and he would "handle it later." We then learned he was not just a server but the owner of the restaurant. I did not want to leave without resolving it, but he insisted it could not be done then. As we were leaving, a woman mid-meal at another table mouthed "good choice" to us. We ended up eating at the restaurant in the new Pocketbook Hotel, who truly saved our Thanksgiving. The service and food were phenomenal and less expensive than Taiga's prix fixe. I cannot recommend them enough. It has now been almost a month and I still have not received a refund. I have called dozens of times with no answer, texted the owner's personal number with no response, and contacted OpenTable, who says only the restaurant can initiate a refund. I paid with a debit card, and my bank's investigation takes up to 90 days. This was over $600 for no food or service. We did not even receive a glass of tap water. I also attempted to leave a review on OpenTable, but could not because the owner canceled the reservation and marked us as a no-show. Please see the attached photos. Unfortunately, we did show up. The worst restaurant exerience I've ever had. I'm 83, so I"ve been around. For example: They took over 90 minutes to produce the most expensive item on their menu -- a $56 plate of overcooked, ultra-tough steak. They took over an hour to deliver the other dishes. They delivered our appertiser together will all our three dishes. (the last one being the steak dish, which came 30 minutes later. Obviously we asked for our appertiser before the main dishes. They forgot one lemonade which they delivered about thirty minutes after the wine -- and that was only after at least four reminders to our rude waitress. I could go on and on. Sufffice, don't do to this terrible restaurant. Oh, yes, two of us ordered a salmon dish on the menu. When the billl came it turned out that dish cost $42. When I asked why the price wasn't on the menu, the chief waiter snarled "You should have asked." read more

Visited this place for the second time. It was their special Valentines Day dinner. The food was delicious, plus we were served a complimentary flight of infused vodkas. First of all, I'd like to address the fact that I believe someone has fraudulently spammed this yelp page with multiple bad reviews in an attempt to sink this business single handedly. Multiple yelp reviewer profiles with zero other reviews on their pages made the same exact review multiple times. It's not hard to tell that this is the work of one single disgruntled person pretending to be multiple people. You can ignore this if you want, but that person must be smoking crack to put this much effort into being such a petty, miserable A-hole. Additionally, anyone who booked a table through a third party website like open table that charged them in advance claimed the RESTAURANT had charged them. Seems like an issue with open table and not with the restaurant itself, who in those bad reviews, responded & claimed that they hadn't charged those costumers. Yeah, no shit they didn't. Because OPEN TABLE DID. Morons. Now on to my review. This the third time I have been to Taiga, and like both previous experiences, our lunch party had an absolutely wonderful time. The food was excellent, the service was stellar, and the price was reasonable considering the good quality of the food and drinks. We were a party of four and everything we ordered was fantastic and tasted so unique and interesting (in a good way)! The Russian pancakes with caviar and cream was mind blowing, the pickled herring with black bread was to die for, and their signature tea that served the whole table was delicious! We also ordered the dumplings in mushroom sauce, and the potato pancakes with salmon which were excellent as well, and two different desserts which were also delicious. We as a group all shared each dish and that made the experience even more enjoyable. Of course we also ordered some excellent vodka, and other cocktails with our meal which were also quite tasty. Our waitress was warm, friendly and very nice, which added to the whole experience. Unlike some people who came here to spam this business on yelp with multiple bad reviews out of spite (I still think most of them are the same person using multiple fake accounts), we had a wonderful time for the FOURTH time at Taiga. If you have a chance, go to this restaurant and try it out. The atmosphere is unique and fascinating, the traditional Russian dishes are excellent and it will undoubtedly be a good experience. Unless you go on Thanksgiving apparently, which..... I'm sorry but why on earth would you go to a Russian restaurant on Thanksgiving and order f$$$ing turkey? At a Russian restaurant. The website advertises Taiga as the wild kitchen of the world. True to form, the dining room has abundant plant life. We start off with a glass of wine that tastes like sour minute maid and a cocktail reminiscent of lighter fluid before a cloud of fruitflies descends on us. They feast on the pomegranate seeds and wine, at one point with at least a dozen sitting on the rim of the wine glass. Fun fact: flies are very distracting when try to make conversation on a date night out I'm debating how to nope out of this, but I'm curious how the brie and filet mignon we ordered will be. The waitress comes out with the brie and we all NOPE out and head to the back of the restaurant for a cleaner table. It's all forgivable. Shit happens. Locusts descend once a decade or so? Amirite? But this is where a sane owner comes by and apologizes profusely, comps the wine, and keeps a sharp eye on the table to make sure everything goes flawless. Spoiler alert: none of that happened. This is where it goes from forgivable to Gulag imprisonment of my taste buds. Brie in any normal world has bread with it. Nope-- we get a solid hunk of hot cheese and some sliced cucumbers and seared strawberries. Bold? Delicious? On the bright side those filets will be delicious. How can you screw what up? Simple. "hey, I'm sorry but we are out of the filets." This is 30 minutes after we placed our order. In Japan, the owner would have committed seppuku to maintain any semblance of honor at this point. We haven't even seen the manager. We are in for a penny, in for a pound. With a semblance of defeat I order the lemon shrimp pasta and my wife the grilled vegetables. The orders come out and I'm confused. No one ordered a salad, but we did order grilled vegetables. That's when I realize in the Gulag of taste, pasta comes under the arugula. It's a bold choice. A lot of boldness.... I'll give it a pass on presentation, after all there is a forest theme. It's cute. How was the pasta? Unremarkable, and perhaps slightly overcooked all swimming in two inches of lemon sauce. The vegetables ended up being a sour mess of nastiness. Whoever enjoys this meal is lying to themselves and everyone around them. Finally the owner comes out after I ask for the bill and we don't want a box for the copious amount of left overs. He asks for some feedback, and I test the waters with something we should all agree on: a cloud of fruitflies is a non starter. He shrugs it off as "natural". Clearly he can't handle the truth, and I get it. There is a bold aesthetic and theme. He cares and I get it. On the bright side dinner ended early enough for us to grab ice cream down the road. How does this business make a profit? I don't expect to see it in Hudson next year. Come experience the Gulag before it melts away. read more

Beware - READ THE REVIEWS - this place is desperate for money and will scam you any chance they get. We cancelled a reservation by phone 11 days in advance and still incurred a $75 cancellation fee. NO WHERE on the website does it state a reservation made through open table needs to be cancelled through open table. As part time residents in the area, we frequent many of the restaurants in Hudson and the surrounding area's. We will share our experience with ALL our friends and associates. Taiga - please refund our promised $600 refund or we will pursue legal action. My friends and I attended this restaurant on thanksgiving for the $120 prefix dinner. After 45 mins into our reservation, we decided to leave due to lack of cleanliness, truly poor service, and the fact that we had not even been served a glass of water despite asking multiple times (we were brought glasses - but no water). Other reviews mention a similar situation - the owner tried to convince us that we were completely free to leave the restaurant because "we had not paid." We had to pull up an online bank statement to prove that we had and asked again to be refunded. The owner then promised to refund us the full amount within 7-10 business days, and gave us his "personal phone number" in case there were any issues. He has since completed ghosted us. Will not answer the phone number he gave us or email. We understand having an off night of service, but after reading multiple other similar reviews - it seems this owner is legitimately fraudulent, tricking people into paying twice when he can, not specifying that the wine does not contain alcohol lol, and in our case - literally stealing $600 from a group of young people on thanksgiving who didn't even receive a glass of water from his restaurant. read more

ITS CHRISTMAS. we also had to include a tip through opentable - a tip for absolutely nothing and horrible service/attitude from the OWNER? that's $150/person for absolutely NOTHING AT ALL. I don't normally leave reviews but after our recent experience at Taiga I feel that others need to be forewarned about this place. My wife and I were in Hudson for the Thanksgiving holiday and were looking forward to a nice meal at what appeared to be a good restaurant. We had a 6:00pm reservation for Thanksgiving dinner and arrived about 20 minutes early. We were told that they were running behind and were asked to leave and return at 6:15. We returned at 6:20 and were left standing at the front door for at least 10 minutes. Once we were seated we ordered drinks. A chardonnay for my wife and a beer for myself. My beer was served about 10 minutes later and after waiting another 10 minutes or so we asked about the wine. After asking us again what wine was ordered the server came back once again and asked what wine we ordered. It was almost as if someone ordering a chardonnay was an unusual request. We overheard from the table next to us that they ran out of the turkey which was one of the 3 main offerings. We ordered starters, the salmon and the venison mains and desserts. Starters arrived in a reasonable amount of time and were good enough, We were then served 2 of the salmon entrees and I told the server that I ordered the venison. After several minutes the venison arrived. My wife's salmon was lukewarm when served and by the time my venison arrived her salmon was cold. In spite of being cold the salmon was good and the venison had good flavor but was very tough. Meanwhile there was a very strange vibe in the room. Normally you would see diners talking and smiling and enjoying themselves, but everyone seemed very tense and uneasy. There was a table of six near us that was obviously annoyed, and they all got up and left. Not long after another table got up and left. Never once did anyone check to see how we were doing. One of our 2 desserts arrived and after a good amount of time we asked where the other dessert was. The second dessert finally arrived after we finished the first. Throughout the meal we were never asked if we wanted another drink in spite of both glasses being empty for a long time. No coffee was offered with dessert. At this point we just wanted to get the check and leave. After asking for the check we were approached twice by who I think was one of the owners. There seemed to be some confusion as to whether or not we had pre-paid or not. Both times I told them we had not. I had been in the restaurant business for many years both as a chef and an owner and never saw such confusion and chaos in a dining room. To be completely honest, I've been to hundreds of restaurants and never written a negative review. If the food (or even the service) is bad I just keep it moving and don't come back. This was another level. The food and service were undoubtedly bad, but on top of that I'm pretty convinced the place is running a scam. We pre paid for the meal through open table (over $300 for bad food and service). Then we reach the end of the meal and the owner informs us that we didn't actually pay and the charge "just gets held on that card." We show him the receipt from open table and he still maintains that it's just a hold. Next, we open up our credit card statement and show it to him. He finally concedes "ok, but let me keep your phone number just in case." This is quite obviously in an attempt to save face after we caught him trying to rip us off. Worth noting, in the time we spent proving that we had paid for our horrible meal and experience, two other people around us had issues with their bill where items had been added or charges marked up. Usually I'd write something like this off to incompetence, in this case I believe it is all by design and they are stealing money. Additionally, we watched the group sitting next to us who finished before we did go through this exact same scam. I would Stay away if you care about how you are treated . For me it was rude and condescending. We made a reservation on Resy and then canceled about an hour later Because we realized the type of food was not tolerable for one of our (6) guests . We didn't understand there was a fee for canceling ( my bad I guess but please note it was 2 days prior to reservation , the availability was completely open in every time slot when we made it, and we canceled about 1 hour later ) . They charged us $150 which I thought was so outrageous and was sure they would agree and reverse upon discussion . I initially called and emailed 3 times with no reply and finally wrote that I wanted to try coming at a differs time but without resolution i would boycott . I guess that set them off and motivated them to finally reply. They even mentioned some vague legal ramifications towards me ! I tried my best to reason even offered to come in another day and they could hold that money towards a credit . I mentioned many times I wanted to try the restaurant soon with friends. They were defensive and condescending because they said I don't understand how reservations work and that I hurt their small business by canceling The attitude and treatment was not what you would expect in the service industry . They actually said that they want customers who appreciate what they offer and I should find establishments that better align with my expectations ( did they mean decency?) To be fair I never got to try their food or service . I wanted to because I like to patronize small business . This review is strictly on the treatment I received by management which I think is indicative of the character of an establishment . I perceived from this interaction that they were arrogant and aloof . Not the kind of treatment I'm willing to spend my money towards . lesson learned for me ! My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary and it was absolutely incredible. Tiffany our waitress was very nice and professional. The atmosphere was so relaxing and romantic. The food was absolutely delicious we couldn't stop raving about every dish we got. We got the homemade potato pancakes for our app and omg that was our favorite dish it was incredible! My husband got signature dumplings and I got the mussels they were both so good and for dessert we got the cherry and blueberry dumplings and lorddd! That was incredible! At the end of our truly abysmal meal at Taiga, we chose not to leave a tip and left a note explaining our reasoning: namely that we felt the corkage fee applied on top of charges for non-alcoholic beverages was not standard practice and left a poor impression. We considered it a wash and made our position clear in writing on the receipt. However, when the charge posted to our credit card, it was more than what we had authorized, and I suspect a tip had been added without consent. I made seven separate attempts over the course of a month to contact the restaurant for an itemized receipt, as they promised to provide, but I have not received a response or any documentation. I ultimately had to report the charge discrepancy to our credit card company. This is not the level of transparency or professionalism one expects at this price point. read more

The Thanksgiving dinner experience at Taiga was awful. We showed up for our 5:30pm reservation excited to eat at a new place. That excitement fizzled quickly. 20 minutes into our reservation we were told they were out of turkey. How do you run out of turkey on Thanksgiving??? The other entree options were venison and salmon, not widely loved by a couple individuals in our party. The service was incredibly slow, taking 20+ minutes to get our first drinks then another over 20 minutes to get the glasses of wine we ordered mid meal. At one point our server offered to bring dessert before we had our main meals. It was obvious they were incredibly disorganized. 3 hours into our reservation we finally got dessert. One of the items was not the apple pie with ice cream, instead we were served something like kugel with chocolate. After asking we were told they were out of the dessert on the menu.They simply were not prepared for the holiday. The only reason I am giving this restaurant 1 star is because they removed one of our meal charges since the individual only ate an appetizer. There is so much more I can say but I will end with this - we will not be back. read more

Creating a dining experience has much more to do than serving good food and unfortunately, Taiga is just not there yet. First, I had no idea they didn't have a beer/wine license ( a clear note on the website would be helpful) so that was a disappointment as I needed a glass or two while waiting 45 minutes for our Main dish to arrive. The Salmon pancakes and watermelon feta salad arrived pretty quickly and were delicious, the salad was incredible actually. I think everyone's reviews pretty much speak for the experience. Nothing new to add except I begrudgingly paid $12 for water. Normally when a server asks if you want "still or sparkling" you can assume when you say "still" you mean tap water when you're in a country that has drinkable tap water. I wasn't surprised to see the water charge after all of the other blunders that happened throughout our dinner. The funniest part was when the servers approached our table and asked if we were ready to order after we had already fully eaten and were waiting for the check. I also really don't like being argued with after paying for a pre-paid meal and being told that it's not "showing up in the system" after showing my bank statements and the open table request with my visa payment. This is the type of place that won't take accountability for their mistakes and I just hope nobody got ripped off or double paid like they almost made us do. read more
