Great place for tacos in the Whit. Soft shell, a little bigger than a small street taco. The corn tortilla itself is nothing special, a little on the dry side. But the choice of tacos is amazing and gets them 5 stars. From multiple vegan options like sweet potato and bean, crispy tofu, and many others to the more tradional ones like carne asada. The smoked carne asada was absolutely devine. The crispy tofu was tasty but would be better if it was fried in smaller pieces instead of one big log of tofu. First you order, then you get a table and they bring it out to you. The chips and salsa was good, the guacamole with nice big chunks of avocado. Parking is always a challenge in the Whit in a busy day but they have about 8 places right in front of the restaurant and I was able to snag one during Saturday lunch time... always feels like a small victory. read more

Driving through Eugene on my way back to LA and had to charge nearby (not a Tesla), so my partner suggested we pick up tacos to eat while we waited. So glad we did. We tried four different kinds, loved them all. The tortillas taste homemade. The aqua fresca delish as well. As someone with a picky eater, tacovore is always a great choice! Their food is always amazing (I've been many times and have never been disappointed) and the staff is always friendly. Their margaritas might be the best margaritas in town. We get one every single time we go. My daughter's face probably says everything you need to know about Tacovore! This is an excellent place to come! Tacos are amazing. I had the Portabella Torta today and wasn't excited by it, but the outdoor seating and margarita made up for it! Great place if you have a dog. If you're only able to eat one meal in Eugene let it be here. TACOVORE is a must stop place for me anytime I pass by Eugene. My favorites are the mushroom taco and the carnitas taco. Their seasonal tacos are always great and so is the carnitas torta. Mind you, I've never eaten a bad dish here. Take advantage of the salsas and you can't go wrong with their margaritas. My only wish is that the Portland location could be just as good but it's truly not - don't even bother in portland. But if you're in Eugene, make the stop. read more

Every time, I've been here I've been underwhelmed. Maybe it's the size and the scale. It feels like a college dining hall with communal seating. The vibe feels, off. It doesn't give comfort, it gives, "get as many people in as possible." And I'm not mad at capitalism for capitalisming. But i don't have to pretend I like it either. They get the quality-price mix - the quality and portions are very good and the price is low. They are also focused on margaritas. They have a self service salsa/hot sauce station. Order at the kitchen window, staff delivers to table, serve yourself utensils, salsa, water, napkins. Clean up after yourself to the busing station. With Tacovore you get inside seating, warmth, and their art collection. The crowd was all ages. They have their own parking lot and there is street parking. The parking lot is narrow, it helps to have a passenger to step out and direct exiting, I saw several times. I had the shrimp and the pork chorizo. To the order counter person's credit they offered the house-smoked tempeh vegan chorizo as an option. The shrimp were generous. I'm exploring chorizo and the amount in the taco was large. All the staff I encountered were pleasant, happy, and customer-oriented. None of the Portland employee dour. There is a saying, fast, cheap or good, pick two. Holy Taquitos, I've never been to a busier taco shop than Tacovore. Granted, I visited on a Friday night that also happened to be on the eve of a Duck's home game, but this place was seriously happening. The 25 minute wait in line was entertaining with lots of people-watching and eves-dropping to do. I was impressed by the diverse crowd the restaurant attracts, with everyone from groups of college students, folks on date night, to families out having fun. There are daily specials posted high above the order counter, as well as menus available to peruse while waiting in line. The specials tonight included black bean soup, as well as tortilla soup. As busy as the restaurant was, there were still plenty of tables available. The cafeteria style interior has long shared tables, as well as several cocktail tables along the edge of the room. There are also a surprising number of picnic tables in the parking lot, as well as an outdoor patio in the back. Our food didn't take long to prepare, arriving at our table piping hot. At first glance we were disappointed by our rather untraditional looking ceviche, but it ended up being some of the best my husband and I have ever had. Featuring larger than average chunks of shrimp and veggies, the slices of mandarin orange added a fascinating mouthfeel and flavor. The tacos were very filling, but served with too many slices of radish for my liking. And finally, the tortilla soup had a very unique flavor with strong notes of cumin. It was thicker than average, with large chunks of shredded chicken and veggies. The extra crispy tortilla strips were a nice touch. Aside from the above average wait to order, I was very pleased with my first Tacovore experience. TL/DR; good, but not great. What Tacovore is good at, they are good at, such as great patio seating and a sensational cantina. Tacovore has a fine range of sauces, ranging from the very mild to the reasonably hot habanero. The pineapple sauce has a great flavor, but could use a little extra kick. Any of those sauces match well with just about any taco on the menu. I sampled the black bean chili, which had good flavor but maybe needed to be thicker. Still, it's a great pick-me-up bowl if you have a chilly Eugene day. The taco selection is pretty robust, from fish to fowl, and everything in between. I sampled the Carnivore, which matched shredded barbecue beef with a nice spicy lime crema. Again, good, but not great. The tacos are big, so just one might fill you up. Lots of seating out front, but a better vibe in the covered patio with all of the greenery. So very Eugene! read more

Lots of space and tasty tacos! We started with chips, guacamole, and salsa. The guacamole was perfect. Creamy, tangy, and textured in all the right ways. I vote for the chipotle salsa but my family liked the pineapple habanero best. For dinner we had ceviche, a carnitas taco, a ground beef taco, and beans. The ceviche had lots of seafood, both shrimp and fish. It was served with spicy, pickled jalapeños, slices of acachado, and grapefruit segments. The grapefruit was unique but ultimately not my flavor. The tacos were amazing. The carnitas was smoky and tender with a nice crisp. It also had another citrus twist, mandarían oranges. The ground beef had pretty traditional seasoning, finely shredded lettuce, and it reminded me of family taco night as a kid. read more

Tacovore is a super popular spot and often has a line out to the street. It's a lively atmosphere for small groups and a lot of students come here. It can get pretty loud in there. They also serve beer and margaritas, both staples with Mexican food. The taco choices are fairly creative and mostly meat-based. As a pescatarian, I found only a few fish or vegetarian options I ordered a couple of tacos, including their taco of the month, which had sweet potatoes and black beans. That said, I found the tacos themselves to be underwhelming, fairly flavorless. I've lived in San Antonio and Austin where Mexican food is a staple and is pretty flavorful. Even the Tex Mex rocks. If you're used to real Mexican food, these may not be your thing either. But it's certainly a popular place, so you might want to check it out and form your own opinion. People come here as much for the atmosphere and the opportunity to hang out with friends as much as for the food and drinks. Maybe more so. read more
