Just driving through and picked this place out thanks to the images on yelp. We ordered the enchilada plate Christmas style (red and green salsa). The plate came with rice beans and your typical toppings like cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. The food was good, red salsa had a kick. The green salsa needed more spice and the rice and beans could use for salt. We ordered inside and also small, looks like many people would fit to dine in. The service was great the two young men that helped us out were polite and looked like they enjoyed being there. Food came out quickly so we were back on the road in no time. read more

Hidden gem in Springfield! They have a huge menu with a vast selection of different dishes. Service was quick and everything was made fresh. We opted to get the carne asada supreme nachos and chilaquiles this time, with a horchata to share. Both were loaded with flavor and portion sizes were generous. Took my Dad here, (pretty far from our town) after the movies. It was excellent! I had two pork tamales and wow, they were big and delicious. The masa is fresh and fluffy. The pork was diced super small so it wasn't what I was expecting but it was tasty. Dad had 2 shredded beef tacos, we both had the rice and beans combos. Definitely recommend! read more

If you are a fan of traditional chile rellenos and love burritos, look no further. **El Pique** is a classic hole-in-the-wall SCORE if you're into homemade sauces & (near as I can tell) AUTHENTIC flavors of classic Mexican grub. This tiny sit-down Mexican restaurant at the intersection of 19th and Main St in Springfield is easy to miss (South A St merges with Main St. right here). LOCALS (working guys, latinex families) hit this place up around lunch time; it's sweet. For me, thee sit-down function of El Pique is fine (but not their strong suit: no beer). My partner and I had dropped in a few times for sit down over the past few years and were non-committal (no beer)... Not sure we tried anything like a chile relleno, but I will do so today and will report back. El Pique, by the way, translates to English as "the bite." Bold marketing. Good start, and yes these folks make a red salsa that has serious el pique! I'm a HUGE fan of green chiles in general (HATCH greens, poblanos) and of traditional CHILE RELLENOS (light crust, NOT buried in sauce, with a great tasting Anaheim or Poblano or Hatch Green... like they make at 1960 Cocina in Eugene, btw). THE CHILE RELLENO BURRITO About 8 months back, while working on a recording project in Springfield, I discovered their **CHILE RELLENO BURRITO** and my life was changed (the recording engineer and I have lived on these things ever since . He likes the 'supreme,' while I go for the 'regular.' El Pique fed our crew on a near-daily basis....) The lovely and personable **Sanguan** works the drive-up window around lunchtime (tell her "Lee" said hi!), and I'm pretty sure she recognizes my voice over the intercom these days (I could drive in and say "the usual" and she would know what to do, but I like to listen to her talk). I got the El Pique Grande burrito and I gotta tell you, I'm use to buying something bigger on the menu and finding that they sacrificed quality and ratios. But, they did a damn good job. The food is "OK". Definitely using canned beans and pre-made salsa. Their green salsa tastes like nothing and has no spice to it. The chicken fajitas I got tasted like a store-bought taco mix with a large amount of cumin as the primary flavor and, unfortunately, was a tad greasy. The salt levels were pretty good, which I appreciate. The rice was goopy and lacked the flavor of chicken or tomato bouillon instead tasting more of a "Spanish rice" seasoning packet one may find at the grocery store. The store-bought corn tortillas that they use were tasteless and although steaming in foil, turned into a crumbly mess after a few minutes. Their prices that you will see on their online menu pictures are about $2 cheaper than what you will pay at the store. If you want something (relatively) cheap and are stuck at the hotel next door, this might be the place for you. read more

1st want to say that the food here is normally amazing but this morning I called in my order as line was long thinking it would help expedite the process. waited in line got up there and it still wasn't put together which is fine they are busy. I order the same thing Rancheros no beans add tomatoes. Charged me for pico ok fine dont like cilantro, but thats ok. Burrito had beans and potatoes are the best part with seasoning but came under cooked and crunchy. Sorry not a fan of the weekend crew will stick to weekday burritos from here. I get I sound like a Karen, but when you have an idea of what sounds good for a quick grab and go staple and it is nothing like the normal something needs to be shared. This place is very clean, the service was good, the food was good. I had 2 chicken tacos, and they were very good. It also came with rice and beans, they didn't stay warm very long. Most Mexican restaurants serve the food on heated plates, they don't seem to do that. But as far as flavor goes it tasted good. Very small dining area, so very cozy. Don't let the small space and drive through throw you as there is eight tables available for sit down service. With many options to choose from you are also able to get red or green or in my cases half and half to drench your burrito with luscious flavor. With 12 options to stuff your food with, you have plenty of options. There are many more options on the menu, but I always go with something safe at first to get a feel for the food. With a quick order, and food on my table in easily 7-10 minutes, this place will easily get you in and out without any issue. The flavor, oh boy, the flavor was fantastic. I got the chicken (great for my protein diet) and a coworker got the Al Pastore or marinated Porto wet burrito. First let me say these things are enormous and will fill the biggest of appetites.
