After being so enthusiastic from eating here last September, I couldn't wait to share the experience with families we met in the first year of university. Disappointed unfortunately... Ordered chile verde enchilada with rice and beans. Other members of my family ordered combination plates. Meat was cut in large chunks and rather bland in taste. Although plate was hot, food was warm. Tortilla fell apart as soon as I began cutting it. Rice and beans were lacking flavor too. On top of that, 20% gratuity added automatically for our party of 11. What you see here I don't even have a name for it. If you want to order, ask for the : sausage, chicken, beef, shrimp, cactus, roasted jalapeño plate. This was the special but is now on the menu as a regular item. I don't think this pic does it justice. Sheer volume alone requires 2 people to finish it. The flavors are outstanding. I been going to this flavor mecca for 10+ years and it's yet to not satisfy. A wide ranging menu, if you don't see it, ask for it. I recommend...oh they have a fully stocked bar with brews to Margaritas as well. During the pandemic, they not only stayed alive, but built a permanent outdoor eating area that is a nice alternative to a very pleasant indoor atmosphere. I tried the Tortilla Soup (bowl) tonight which I never had before: it was delicious. Lots of shredded chicken, cheese, some avocado chunks and fresh tortilla strips in a beautiful broth. Very good! My husband had the carne Asada, like usual, and he truly enjoyed it. It's too tough of a cut of meat for me though.... Being a California native, I've been on the hunt for authentic Mexican food. Ranchito Grill exceeded my expectations! From the beautiful rock exterior to the warm, colorful interior, it reminded me of old town San Diego. The parking lot was filled with cars which is always a good sign. We were greeted with smiles and only waited about 5-10 min to be seated. I've been here twice in one week and decided it needed to be reviewed. I want to give a big shoutout to Angie our waitress, who surprisingly waited on me both times. She was super sweet and attentive, gave many suggestions and we're glad she did. Everything was amazing!! The chips and salsa with the home made beans were a nice way to start the night. We ordered the blue pineapple margaritas as well as the mango and peach, they were all delicious and pretty big for the price, not to mention the perfect amount of liquor. For dinner I ordered the carne asada and the chicken super burrito. The carne asada was absolutely amazing, cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The rice and beans were very good, but the homemade flour tortillas were incredible. Reminded me of something my grandma would make, you can tell they put lots of love into their meals. We also ordered the chicken enchilada suiza plate and shredded beef sopita with the chicken enchilada plate. Each meal was served on hot plates and not to mention very big portions, I've had to ask for a box each time. This place was very busy but it didn't stop the staff or the manager from walking around checking on each table making sure everyone had what they needed. Everyone was nice and friendly, made you feel like family. I will definitely be making this place my go to spot for authentic Mexican food. read more

I can't say anything about the food, because it never came to our table. Ordered a margarita that tasted like stale water and no alcohol, which was only a taste. Also ordered a tecate beer that apparently they didn't have 15 minutes later, I settled for a Michelob ultra which never came 10 minutes later as well. Forget about the water being refilled from an absent waitress. 1 hour waiting in our booth for any one to check on us, I've never had such bad experience till now. I couldn't decide what I wanted so I had the appetizer sampler. WARNING this was HUGE, way more than what I needed. Chimi was hot and crisp...cut open so steam escaped and stayed crisp. Nachos were delicious and used those same awesome chips. I didn't touch my quesadilla but hubby did. Said they were full of seasoned beef and cheese. The plate was screaming hit so the mountain of cheese and stuff stayed hot. All that food and I came home with a full to go container. Restaurant is kitchy and booths are tiny. Grabbed some dinners to go. I got the shredded beef chimichanga. It comes with beans/cheese & rice on the size. Tomatoes & lettuce to garnish. I was a bit disappointed it didn't come with guacamole or sour cream on top. Comes with a small container of salsa and a small bag of chips to split with the other meals. Food was really good and filling. The chimichanga the filling felt like it wasn't spread out well cause I had a few bites with just beans / pepper inside and plain tortilla so I had to dig a bit for the meat. But ! The best Mexican food in town! I can't believe I hadn't reviewed this place yet, because it's been my go to for years! They gave a smaller menu now due to covid, and missing my favorite chicken/steak combo plate but there is plenty to choose from still. They are one of the few places in town that makes a cheese enchilada where the cheese is actually melted. I like their shredded beef too, and of course anything with the carne asada is delicious. I also recently tried their spicy sauce they have available on request, and it is spicy! Not many Mexican places in town can give some good heat in their food, and this salsa was both hot and flavorful. I'll never order without it again! Portions are generous, everything tastes fresh, good always comes out hot, the staff is great, and the margaritas hit the spot. It's not the best Mexican food I've ever had in my entire life, and it does lean towards that cheese laden Tex-mex American Mexican food (yellow cheese! Yay!)- but sometimes that is exactly what you crave and they deliver. They also have homemade tortillas, and you can't beat that. It's worth the drive into Springfield, and when that Mexican restaurant craving hits it is my go-to spot 100% of the time! read more

We were so excited to come here for our anniversary. Hubby ordered Jicama and I, a Horchata. The Horchata was very bland so I asked for cinnamon to doctor it up. Isaac our server, brought cinnamon and sugar mixed. It certainly tasted much better after 1/2 tsp of that mixture. Hubby ordered shrimp with rice with NO peppers and NO tomatoes. A dish was brought to him with peppers and tomatoes. Isaac said he'd bring him a different dish, but the new dish also had the vegetables Hubby didn't want. I ordered marinated steak fajitas. The seasoning needs revamping as it needed a little salt and maybe less of the bland seasoning they used and the steak wasn't tender only chewy, chewy, chewy. The corn tortillas looked interesting but were thick, hard, not pliable, and cold. The refried beans looked like shit on a plate they were so mushy. Very disappointed we were. I'm being charitable with the rating. I gave 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 only because the wait staff (particularly Aaron) was excellent. The food? MEH... I ordered the chili verde with pinto beans instead of received beans. They were good. The chili verde was blah and nearly tasteless. My husband ordered the chicken enchiladas. He has the same experience. Blah, tasteless and uninspired. Worse, we were informed that due to a shortage of tortilla chips, we could get a basket of chips as usual, but any additional would be an extra $2.00. They brought our initial basket and it was a child's portion of chips! We ordered a second basket and it came out heaping and nearly overflowing! I guess there's no shortage when one is paying extra... Additionally, they no longer serve sour cream and guacamole with the chicken enchiladas, or chicken chimichangas for that matter, unless you're willing to pony up an additional $2.95! I get that the pandemic has wreaked havoc on many businesses; especially restaurants. Seems to me that it's become an excuse to charge more and deliver less. Just realize that while it's nice to be able to dine-in again, the gratitude for normalcy doesn't make up for lousy food and charging more. We won't be back to Ranchito.
