Love this place. Food and service always excellent. I have 4 or 5 items that I rotate when we go there.

on Saturday, my husband and I went to Tacos Tolteca for dinner. We have been there many times before. We were very lucky; as soon as we sat down, the place filled up with customers and there were many waiting to be seated. Our waitress came over and took our drink order and we asked for a little time to place our appetizer order. When the waitress returned, we placed our order and she asked us to place our main course order. We asked if we could wait until she brought the appetizer. She never returned. We waited and watched as she continued to go from table to table taking orders, delivering orders and occasionally looking our way. Finally, the owner came to our table and took our order. Our food was brought to us by the waitress and that was the last we saw of her. Still, people waiting for table seating. Other customers finishing their meals and we wait. And wait. And wait. Finally, the owner comes back over to us as our waitress watches. We told him that we have been waiting for a box and the check for over twenty minutes. I guess she thought that we made her wait to take our order, that she would make us wait for our dinner. The owner apologized, brought a box and the check. And the waitress watched. Her passive-aggressive behavior was amazing. As we were leaving, the owner apologized again. We have always enjoyed eating at his restaurant. The owner is such a hard-working gentleman and the food is so good. It is a shame that his business is being ruined by this waitress. As good as the food is, the service was horrible. I can honestly say we will not be back. read more

It was bit late for dinner (9pm) and they were closing in an 1-hr, but they didn't show any rudeness upon entering. I really liked this restaurant. On the smaller side I would venture to say have a reservation but that doesn't mean the party before you will get up (which is what happened to our group of 7). There isn't a waiting around so standing around the front door on a cold night for 30 minutes was not a good experience. Despite that service was good, food was good, drinks were good. read more

ordered the taco plates & asked for no meat, only beans. The lettuce on the taco was old & had a funny taste. There was barely any refried beans on the taco. I wish I would've taken a photo, but I did show the waitress! received a 10% discount on the $12+ lettuce taco plates (2 tacos). We will not be coming back as every time we have been there in the past year, things have gone downhill. The hostess didn't greet us or even have a smile on her face, she just sat us at a table. she clearly did not want to be there. for 1:30 on a Thursday, there was no large crowd that could explain any of what we experienced. My daughter and son-in-law have been raving about Tacos Tolteca. So, I decided I would treat them and me to dinner there. We arrived early on a Friday which was a good thing as the restaurant filled up quickly and patrons were waiting in line to be seated. We were seated right away and they immediately brought over tortilla chips and sauces for dipping. They also took our drink orders. Their menu is extensive. I decided to go with the recommendation of my daughter, and we both enjoyed the Spinach and Mushroom Chimichanga, which had grilled spinach, mushroom, tomatoes and onions wrapped in a flour tortilla - covered in queso dip and served with Spanish rice, guacamole salad and Pico de Gallo, Oh my, it was beyond delicious and filling! The portion was so big, I had the half I could not eat for lunch today. My son-in-law ordered the Fajita de Pollo, which was grilled marinated chicken with onions, tomatoes and bell peppers - served with Spanish rice, refried beans, tomatoes and a guacamole salad topped with grated cheese with flour tortillas. The smells of the fajita were intoxicating. He said it was really good and he thoroughly enjoyed it. If you like Mexican food, then this is your place to come. Hands down best Mexican restaurant in Harford county. Everything on the menu is delicious. I am not usually a margarita person but the house margarita is the best there is. Staff is so wonderful and always nice. Great place to take the family. It can get crowded at dinner time, so we like going during happy hour before the rush! Service is lacking. Today there was simply 1 man and 1 woman working and bussing tables. They played the hostess and bartender as well. Food is pretty solid and the frozen Pina Colada was awesome. Excellent experience. Flautas were great. Nicely rolled and crispy tortillas filled full of flavorful chicken and potatoes. Smothered with pico and other delicious stuff. Chipotle honey glazed wings were less glazed and more drowned in sauce, but that didn't really make them not good. Churros. You get three churros in an order and they come with chocolate sauce and sprinkles. Fun dessert! Service...I ordered online but the guy at the register where I picked it up was really nice. Their website for ordering was easy to use. Price was good. Would definitely go again. It's a nice little place on the side of the road, which has more things than the other Tacos Tolteca locations, but less than a La Tolteca location. read more

Hello, best carnitas tacos I've ever had at a restaurant! Seriously, I pulled over at the intersection of a major road with low expectations - I was just hungry, it was late in the afternoon, at least thirty minutes to get home after a hike, a couple of street tacos sounded great. Got the carnitas, pulled chicken, and beef+chorizo. The carnitas were AMAZING. Seriously - I usually like lots of toppings and sauce on my tacos, because I find that the onions and cilantro just don't cut it. Well, they do here... The meat is so perfectly prepared, tender and juicy but with the perfect crisp on the ends. It's the best. Almost wish I'd gotten three carnitas! The beef and chorizo were also good, and not spicy at all (which I love!). The pulled chicken was definitely hand pulled, had a little kick to it (so not my fave, plus I think it turned out there was an upcharge for it). But seriously, these were excellent tacos, definitely the best I've had in the Baltimore area but a long shot. The guacamole dip (smaller portion not prepared tableside) was still fresh with big chunks of avocado but a little bland for my taste - so it made for a perfect accompaniment on my flavorful chicken tacos though to reduce that heat a bit. It was okay. I got the shrimp tacos my husband got the pork and beef mix not sure what it's called. It was good but not worth the 15 I paid for it. Just didn't have that Mexican flare to it. My husband loved his tacos. And the green salsa they brought with the tacos wasn't too spicy. Update: Still A-OK in my book. Once again we stopped in on a Sunday evening, a bit earlier than last time and it wasn't as crowded. We were seated promptly in the same two-top that we had on our last visit, and chips and salsa were brought to the table several minutes later. We ordered all at once, specifying appetizers of queso and flautas, and entrees of chicken tacos and the three item combo plate, and drinks. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. We were almost done the entire basket of chips by the time our soda and water arrived. I had noticed a lady at the table behind us standing up and looking around; she finally took matters into her own hands and went to the register, and returned with a cup of ice. Uh oh, looks like we could be in for service issues again. I'm not sure how long we had been sitting there at this point, when the DBF predicted that even though we had ordered appetizers, that all of the food was probably going to come out at once. If I had realized he was psychic I would have played the lottery. Sure enough, finally out comes the queso (and we had barely any chips left in our basket by this time), and then two minutes later, out came everything else. When we commented on this, our server happily informed us that the kitchen was working really fast tonight. Super. I enjoyed my chicken tacos supremo very much, and will likely get them again. I was surprised that for $8.99 you only got two tacos and nothing else, no rice or beans. The queso was pretty bland, and the flautas were just ok, nothing to write home about. The DBF thought his order of one chicken enchilada and two chicken burritos w rice and beans was just ok as well. He was unable to differentiate between the enchilada and the burritos, and based on my pic I think he actually received two enchiladas and one burrito. Based on our experiences I think we will skip the lackluster appetizers going forward and just gorge on the complimentary chips and salsa, which was just as good as last time. I will likely return since I've enjoyed my entrees on both occasions, but I don't think the DBF will be in any hurry to come back. read more

The complimentary chips, salsa, and "mexican ranch" was so yummy, and the house margarita was too cute! Great serving size and beautifully garnished. I've been meaning to come here but I never quite pulled the trigger. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed. The place was very clean and looked well kept. This building has been a few restaurants prior and I never went. I wasn't sure if it would "theme appropriate." It is. I was impressed with the quality of the chips and salsa because these can be touch and go. They are good here. I saw a number of things on the menu that caught my eye but I ultimately ordered a pair of street tacos (chicken). There were very small and were cilantro-ed and to death. This made them very difficult to eat and I had to shake off the excess on my second. I don't recommend street tacos unless you're getting appetizers or eating a lot of chips! We get there, NO one was at the hostess table, so people were having to write their own name... not too big of a deal. We wait 25 minutes (still no one acknowledges us), 10 more minutes and our name is called. The four of us sit down and the waiter sets down menus and walks off. No hi, sorry about the wait, nothing. Very disappointed in this establishment as I have been to this place many times over the years since they opened. Things have gone way down hill including the service and the portion sizes. They have raised the prices but the portion sizes are way smaller including the rice going in the burrito. I won't ever go back. The main thing I liked the most was the queso. The food was always good but not when they want to double charge me for something that is already included or mess it up by adding something that I asked to be taken off. read more

1 star is just for great chips and salsa. I went back and stuck with what makes the other sister locations great - Mexican food. The oddly named Cougar Burrito sounded promising and looked delicious (see pic). It was unremarkable. Requested grilled onions and peppers to be added to the Tacoteca salad with chicken. Glad we did. Without it the salad would have been untouched. The chicken seemed like an afterthought. Zero seasoning. Fatty and tough. Kids cheese quesadilla was cold and inedible. The waffle fries were the only thing touched and even they weren't much to speak of. It is unfortunate that my first two visits were so lackluster. I am a huge Tolteca fan. I want this place to succeed. I will give it some time to work the kinks out. I hope it stays around long enough to go back. read more

I don't know why it took me so long to try this place. It is great! Like other "Tolteca" restaurants, they have the white dipping sauce for the tortilla chips. SO GOOD. We also tried the guacamole. It was not made tableside, but was very flavorful and was a huge portion. For my meal, I had the fajitas which were fantastic. My only issue with this place is that our server was very slow which is really unusual for the "Tolteca" restaurants. read more

This is our family's go to restaurant, as it is very close to where we live. The chips and dips brought out upon arrival are awesome! I find myself running there on occasional just to get a to-go order of them for home. While there is sometimes a wait, it rarely is long because service is so quick. Despite of this, you don't feel rushed. There are both tables and booths, so seating there is great. My husband and I like Sinaloa Shimp and Chicken Salad. It comes with tasty shrimp and chicken strips, along a salad with avocado and cheese quesadillas. I also love the chimichanga, the dinner entree features chorizo, and the lunch portion does not, both are excellent. My son loves the Estilo Americano tacos with beef and cheese. They always have a special and good happy hour deals/prices! Totally worth a visit! read more
