Totally baffled with how much foot traffic this place had at 6pm. Granted it's dinner hour but we walked into a busy restaurant but an empty hostess station. When the hostess arrived she was ringing checks for folks leaving and also wiping tables down. After about 5min we got a table with menus already present. A young man arrives and takes our drink order and the experience settles. We ordered dinner and that came from a different person but we didn't see our waiter again. No drink refills, no how's it going or can I get you a refill on some water. Our fajitas were hot and our ice was cold much like our welcome. We have dined at La Tolteca roughly 6yrs back and we had never returned until today. This experience is likely why. read more

I ordered from here the other day as I heard it was a really good place. I know it is a chain, as there is multiple locations. I was excited to try the chimichangas and salsa. The chimichangas were good, not the best I have ever had but were good. The chips were mediocre. The salsa was okay, not spicy, the guacamole was bland, nothing too crazy. I was not crazy impressed with what I had but it was not bad. Just the flavor was not there. I ordered plain churros, with nothing on them but came with the chocolate, honey and whipped cream in them. It was pretty good but was too sweet for my liking. But was not bad! Awful experience. We were Seated quickly during the busy rush. But then sat for 10-15 monutes before our order was taken. And 45 minutes before we had our food which was ice cold. They were also serving tables that were seated after us with food before we got ours. They offered to reheat our food not remake and blamed it on being busy. The manager didnt offer anything to help so we walked out. Saldy this isnt the first time something like this has happened here. Last time it was they took my boyfriends food to another table and brought mine without bringing his then by the time they remade his food mine was cold. With the same issue theres no reason. We actually stayed that time. To be honest i wouldnt eat here ever again the hospitality was awful. read more

When your mouth drools just thinking about their food....well maybe still does....then you go back. This location was my favorite location.....but they have been getting so inconsistent this year. Went from them having vegan cheese...then not and then when I ordered the camarones burrito, it normally comes with refried (I ask for black) and rice...but all of a sudden the price goes up $5 and they don't give you the sides. It's also very strange because when I ask the lady (server or to-go person) they will state it does but the last 3 times it was prepared that way. The guacamole and chips also changed when you order it to go. Instead of it being the same portion size of you eat in...they have cut it in about half. It's just been really disappointing because again I really loved the staff and their food. All in all, this will not be the first place I stop but I would go back. read more

It's clean, the service has been consistently adequate, and the food is decent. I find it a bit on the salty side, and don't like whatever white dip they give you with the nachos that smells like warm mayo. They have good salsa, and a variety of traditional Mexican American meals with rice and beans. They have a fresh guacamole station where they will make it tableside though I've not tried it (not a guacamole fan). I usually get a burrito and/or taco combo, the hubby likes enchiladas. I've been here about three times, but 2 were about 15 years ago. Went back recently May.29.23. La Tolteca is, in a word, solid. Food: It's always been tasty. And I love that you get the chips and salsa/queso at the table. I've never had a food 'miss' here. I ordered three soft tacos and flan (great desert, try if you haven't and you like sweet jello/pudding-like things) this time and they were good, as were the prices . My friend got chicken nachos which were also good and a nice big portion. Service: The lady who seated us and took our order also served us, and she did everything quickly and seemed very sweet and personable. She checked on us several times. Great service. Ambiance: Comfortable. Love the decor. I like that you can get merch from them and the style is colourful and happy. There was light music playing and we had a window booth but there were various areas of the restaurant where I think we could have asked to sit for different lighting conditions. The only thing I'd like to see is something a little more distinct or special on the menu. But it might be that I missed it, so next time I go, I will see if I can't find it. read more

Simply average every time. The food is ok. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible. I always order the fajitas while my family typically orders tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. The table side guacamole is very good. The alcoholic drinks are expensive for how weak they are. If you are there around closing, you will feel rushed as they clean up and try to get you out of there so they can leave at closing time. read more

first off thought we could enjoy a nice meal but we got sat at a table that our food couldn't even fit at. we also got our VALID ID refused because they were vertical even tho the county states that you can accept of age IDs, our IDs have also been accepted before. on top of the we didn't get the large queso we requested, instead we got a small. also the food we received was terrible. my quesadilla was liquid and i'm not sure how that happened. read more

I loveeeeee their fresh guac! So totally worth the $8 or however much it is. Whenever I'm craving a big margarita and some guacamole this is the first place I visit. I'm no expert on authentic Mexican food but I have heard from Mexican food connoisseurs that this place is the real deal. It is a local chain and I've visited several of their locations. Another favorite of mine are the fish tacos. And you can't go wrong with the Spanish rice. Prices are very reasonable and service is quick. Definitely a must visit! read more

Consistently great food and service. Our server, Maria, is great. Soon as we're seated, a basket of warm chips and dips were brought to our table. The food tastes fresh and comes out hot, and in the case of the fajitas, sizzling! Dinner hours (5-7 pm) can get busy but there's plenty of seating including a few high top tables in the bar area. I highly recommend going on Mondays for their fajitas and beer specials. read more

Update: The owners of this location reached out to me today and I agreed to talk with them. We had a phone call that lasted 15-20 minutes. I must say I was very impressed with the professionalism of their approach. I felt they were genuine and concerned not only for the safety of their patrons but their staff as well. Long story short, very very bad hire. And they have made staffing adjustments and will implement additional staff training around health and safety. As we all know, the labor force is not what it was a few years ago and finding good people is tough. Lesson to the youth of America, your actions or lack of actions impact your employer. And if caught, directly impact you. Let's hope this lesson resonates with this young man. In all fairness, I will give them a second shot... we do love their guac and margaritas. I'd say this is my favorite over the Bel Air location. It is much more spacious. The food seems the same, which is great Mexcian food at a reasonable price. Ample parking, too. This restaurant is clean, service is good. Chips with two types of dipping sauces were promptly brought out when we sat down. I opted for the chimichanga from the lunch menu but had to pay an additional $2.99 because it was dinner hour. The entree was served with refried beans, Spanish rice, chopped lettuce, guacamole, and a thick tomato slice. You tasty and filling. read more

Plenty to eat at this Hartford County restaurant. The menu has everything you can Ask for in terms of combinations and traditional Mexican fare. We went in on a Sunday afternoon and it was almost empty we had no wait at all. This location is the best La Tolteca in Harford county. Okay I have only been to 3 of them but I like the Churchville one the best. The fresh made guacamole is to die for and I order it every time I go. And I order it to go when I don't have time to sit. oh man what a good restaurant to bring kids too. i have two go too's the first is avocado with onions, garlic, halopinos, tomatoes, and cilantro. which is always complimented with chips. and then i almost always either order steak fajitas which is really good and healthy. also i like ordering loco pollo with chaso and terrazzo. oh man i could eat this every football Sunday. it is just an amazing combination for chicken roasted, ground spicy pork sausages, with liquid cheese on top. and if you have any extra sauce, which i always have i mix it with my Spanish rice and two fried beans with cheese on top. read more

I'm normally a big fan of la tolteca... good authentic mexican food that's affordable, however, today was not a good experience... in fact it was bad enough for me to write a yelp review (which I have never done up until now). I ordered carryout for just chips, salsa and guac $15. I normally don't mind the price, however, I got about a spoonful of salsa and probably half an avocado's worth of guac. To me that is just ridiculous- I've worked in restaurants my whole life and the staff needs to do better than that and make sure that people are getting what they paid for (especially considering the price they charged for it). La Tolteca is very similar to El Salto in Parkville...in all the good ways! It is a highly affordable and delicious option for your Mexican cuisine needs. Please keep in mind neither restaurant serves black beans for some reason. Go figure on that one. I elected to get the chicken fajitas, which is usually a sound option. This place definitely doesn't disappoint. The chicken was thoroughly cooked and well-seasoned. Everything was of the caliber you'd expect from a great Mexican restaurant. Also noteworthy: the chips and salsa are great here. The salsa is moderately spicy and the chips are just like you'd expect from any legit Mexican restaurant. You won't be disappointed. The guacamole prep is quite a presentation. They have a guy on staff whose sole purpose is to wheel his cart over and enhance your dining experience with his slice and dice prowess. I think this is like my fifth review of a La Tolteca location. Suffice to say, I am a fan! This location is in an old fast food joint, so there are some funny quirks. The bar only has four seats, to start! The entrance to the kitchen is also right by the bar, so it's awkward/impossible to stand close by to get a drink while watiing for your table on a weekend. They also didn't take out the take out window, which made me double take. We stopped by on a Saturday night and had about a half hour wait. Reasonable considering the place is not super huge, but there is literally no comfortable place to stand around and wait. As soon as we were sat, the guacamole cart guy came right up! Which was awesome because after a long day of moving, this table was starving! The guac chef was very friendly and very fast. Service all around was very nice and fast. Our server was always around when we needed her, and never rushed us at all when we weren't ready to order and were lingering over last bites. Which was super nice when you also think that the place is packed and I'm sure they want to fit in as many tables as possible. Food was overall very good. My mom and her bf raved about their dishes in between big bites. They ordered an enchilada sampler, and one of those "everything combo" plates with one of pretty much every Mexican item you can imagine. I was a little more adventurous and ordered the chile verde, a dish I've never tried before. Big pieces of pork simmered in a "spicy" green chile sauce with rice and beans. The rice and beans were great, but the pork was insanely fatty. I had to remove nearly half of every piece before eating. The sauce was good, but not spicy at all. I definitely prefer this location above all others. I feel like it's cleaner and the employees seem to make the service run more smoothly. The food is pretty standard and predictable, but I'm ok with that. There's something great about consistency. The guacamole is probably some of the best I've had though. They make it fresh and right in front of you. The frozen strawberry margarita hit the spot too, but I guess I'm just a lush ;) Ultimately, if you're coming to a Tex Mex place in Churchville for some authenticity or some wow-factor...well...you might want to keep your expectations in check. This is a really good Mexican place. The menu is pretty much the standard Mexican place menu, which is exactly what I wanted. Chips were warm, salsa was spicy, the queso was good. The best part?
