Very good food and great atmosphere. There's a small bar area and a seated area as well. This restaurant isn't overly big and the parking lot isn't that large either. There was no wait when we went. The server was very attentive and immediately greeted us. Throughout our visit she continued being very attentive and friendly. We didn't wait long for our food either. We ordered the table side guacamole, but it wasn't made table side. They brought it to us in a large heavy black pot, but it was deceiving as there wasn't a large portion. It was $12.95. I wouldn't recommend this as an option. We also ordered the queso with shrimp and that was tasty. They do give you chips and some salsa upon being seated, but there is signage that the first basket of chips are complimentary and if more are needed you will be charged which is reasonable. We ordered fajitas which were tasty. Everything was very fresh. The rice and sides that came with them were delicious. The margarita was also good. I believe they have specials, but don't remember exactly what they were (check their socials). Overall, a great option for tasty Mexican food with good service. The Fahitas have now changed...If you are paying $20 + for Chicken Fahitas then you should not have to look for the chicken...you get alot if onion and green pepper but very little and pea size bites of chicken less than 8 pea size bites. When I ask where the chicken was my server said they now do portion control so they charge more but give you way less meat. If you order Fahita which cost more than most of the stuff on the menu you will just be paying for onions and green pepper. Save your money and go somewhere else. Very disappointed!!! read more

I've been to several La Toltecas in the area. This one is conveniently located not far off of Route 95 in a strip mall. The inside is decorated nice and is clean. We were a large party of 10 people and we didn't have any trouble getting a seat at 6:30pm on a Thursday. The staff handled us very well even though the children outnumbered the adults. Chips and salsa are set on the table right away. We shared the queso and guacamole as appetizers. Both were very good. I just wish the guacamole was a little chunkier, less whipped. I had their birria tacos for my entree which are not listed on their regular printed menu for some reason!?! They were excellent. The meat was extremely tender and flavorful. The tacos had the right amount of cheese and were not soggy or too greasy. The dipping sauce . . . I could drink it! I had their flan for dessert and it was a good consistency and not too sweet, which is how I like it. Definitely worth stopping here for your taco fix. read more

House Margaritas are $6 during Happy Hour. HOWEVER, if you sit at the bar and order a House Margarita between 3pm and 5pm, you'll be given the NORMAL (they're not the same, apparently) Margarita at $10. After the damage is done and you question the discrepancy, you'll be told that you must order a HAPPY HOUR House Margarita specifically. So I haven't had a ton of Mexican food (chipotle doesn't count lol) since going low carb because I'm always thinking "rice, beans, and tortillas" - but I came to this La Tolteca location after work one day last week. I had never been to this location - I had only been to Bel Air and Aberdeen. I got the stuffed jalapeños appetizer - 6 of them stuffed with cream cheese and they were so good! And I got the Beef Steak Ranchero (Ribeye steak topped with hot salsa) and skipped the rice and refried beans. I can't believe I kept myself from authentic Mexican cuisine since going low carb and for now reason! I was able to accommodate my way of eating and everything was absolutely delicious. Not too big not too small. The chicken was good, but not super. I used their white salsa as my dressing since I felt like I could drink it after first taste! Ordered 5 whole lunches. The most crazy thing was that for 5 complete lunches... we only received less than 1 ounce container of salsa and white sauce....for all 5 meals!!. With this small of a container....you should receive one of each for every meal ordered. I was super pumped when I saw that a new La Tolteca was opening within a five minute drive of my house. My husband and I went out to eat here over the weekend. We usually go to the one in Bel Air and just love it there. This location has an updated look and is not as cozy as the Bel Air location, but it looks really nice and modern. Since it is a new year, we are both trying to be healthy, but we decided to treat ourselves one last time before going all in to our healthy eating habits. My husband got a veggie fajita platter and I ordered the gordo burrito. We also ordered the table side guac for our appetizer. I love having the guacamole made fresh right in front of us! We asked for "everything" in our guacamole and the lady put in jalapenos, juice of a lime, salt, pepper and tomatoes. I wasn't paying close attention because we were chowing down on the chips and salsa as we waited. The guacamole was good, but not great. It needed a little something more and it was a little bland. Maybe garlic? I'm not sure what it was missing since I wasn't really watching. The guacamole at the Bel Air location is AMAZING. We barely got a few bites of the guacamole in our mouths and then our meals were already out! The kitchen staff is super quick and on top of it. Our food was exactly what we ordered and tasted delicious. So filling and I definitely ate too much. This is one place that you don't have to worry about not having enough food. The portions are way more than what you need. After we were done, we got our check, but then decided against our better judgement to get dessert. We ordered the Don Juan, which is fried ice cream with churros, whip cream and chocolate sauce drizzled on top. So yummy! Our total was $43 for two dinner entrees, guacamole and dessert, no drinks. So my team keeps coming back here in parties of 8 or more...mostly out of convenience. And we keep getting placed with the same server who is either an a-hole or just gives no ducks (see what I did there Siri?), or doesn't speak English. Or all 3. It's like we've personally offended him or something and he's serving us out of convenience. Every single thing we ask for (like plates for instance) seems to be a chore and we have to ask multiple times. Empty water or alcoholic beverage glasses don't phase this guy. You're lucky if you actually get the dish you ordered because who cares? This is hands down the best Mexican food I have eaten. Today I got the Gordo Burrito, AMAZING, there is no doubt this chef knows what he is doing. They start you with a complimentary chips and salsa, and a delicious white sauce. No idea what the white sauce is,but who cares when it's this good, lol. Dined on 6 January 2016 We've been highly excited to try this new location since it is 5 minutes from us, and we are huge fans of both the Churchville and Aberdeen locations. We got there about 7pm and we were seated right away. Just missed happy hour Margheritas, dang!! Our waitress was there almost immediately to take drink orders. I ordered a large specialty Margherita on the rocks with a salt rim, $10 for the fishbowl sized glass. Wow, was it potent, almost like doing shots! It was a long day at work, and after drinking a couple ounces I asked our waitress for a glass of the mixer to calm it down and she promptly brought 4oz of the line juice mix. Great Margheritas!!! I was hankering for Chile Relleno and enchilada and on the specialty menu they offer this with Molé sauce only there are 3 other dishes with it, which is too much food unless you're 18. The combo menu offered it with a traditional red sauce; they were very accommodating when ask about the Molé. So I ordered a chicken enchilada and beef Chile Relleno with Molé (see pic) When served the kitchen sent both as beef, when I showed my waitress she promptly took care of it and brought me a fresh chicken enchilada thick with meat (see pic). My sides were Mexican rice and refried beans. Everything was Yum!!! My wife gave me a dirty look when I picked up the plate to lick the Molé....lol. My wife had Cilantro lime chicken (see pic), which was delicious as well. It came with a small side of guacamole salad, Mexican rice, and black beans. The black beans were bland and needed more seasoning (salt & maybe cumin). For desert we ordered Xangos, which is cheesecake in a deep fried tortilla served cold with vanilla bean ice cream covered in whip cream with honey & chocolate sauce. I didn't care for it, but the wife ate all of her share. The whole dish was cold, if the fried cheesecake was served hot with cold ice cream it probably would have been great. I also want to point out that the manager came over to check on us as well and told me about happy hours. The food, service, and drinks were fantastic; and they let me take the beef enchilada home. This is exactly what you think it is. a low-key Mexican joint right off the highway. I had the Cilantro Lime Chicken (cutlet of breast pounded thin) served with black beans, rice and tortillas. The salsa and chips were complimentary and the salsa was spicy and addictive. There were street taco entrees - looked delicious.
