Omg this place is a gem! I'm so glad I found this and tried it. I'm a vegetarian and absolutely loved their cheese soup. The only bummer was that it was filling and I didn't have space in my belly to try more things! The salsas were also fantastic. We knew we had made the right choice once they brought out the cucumber and salsas for us. My partner got 2 sonora tacos and a half rack- he was in heaven. Special shout out to their flour tortillas. All due respect to Tacos El Franc and Taconanzo, these are the TRUE best tacos in Tijuana in my opinion! I go here strictly for the rib tacos (tacos de costilla) and ribeye tacos, which are to die for. Love the tacos adobada and tacos asada that most frequent the other taco joints in TJ for but the rib tacos here are just too tasty - you'll be blown away if you've never had them before. The ribs here are also served a la carte, as a half or full rack at a bit of a cheaper price than you'd expect in the States. One negative here is this spot does specialize in rib/ribeye tacos, so the tacos are going to be a bit more expensive (roughly $3.25/taco) than tacos in the more well-known taco joints in TJ, though still a solid price. Also this spot is out by the beach (Playas de Tijuana) away from the center of the city, though Uber/Didi rides out to Playas are generally cheap. They do accept credit cards I believe. Small divey spot but the rib tacos I believe are the best TJ has to offer - many locals would agree. Highly recommend checking out and seeing what you think!!! read more

These tacos hit the spot! When I went to Tijuana, all I really wanted to do was eat all of the tacos, and Tacos Casa Sonora delivered. They have a large menu with ribs, tacos (hardshell, flour, and corn!) quesadillas, loaded potatoes, cheese broth, and more. They have a sauce bar with unlimited guacamole and all of the dressings, and they even have vegan options They get their horchata and agua frescos delivered by someone who specially makes them, and they were even able to make us half salt / half bbq ribs to try which was fantastic. The owner was friendly and hospitable, and the tacos with flour tortilla were mouth watering. My favorite was the rib eye and the piranha for tacos, but I didn't get to try the rib since I got an actual rib! The loaded potatoes surprised me - think Mexican style baked potato topped with cheese, corn, onions, meat, salsas, and more. I was glad the brunch place was closed for the day next door and that we discovered this spot instead!! read more

This place is our fave when we come to TJ which is at least three times a year. The service is excellent. We've try something new every time and pleasantly surprised with how amazing it is. It's definitely Sonora authentic with a twist of awesomeness. We had the Portabella Tacos, Chile Relleno Taco, a BBQ Rib with both salt and bbq sauce and the Queso Dorado. Make sure you call and inquire when you can come when there is not a lot of people because I hear it can get packed. We usually come at noon and it's perfect! read more

In my opinion, it's really difficult to mess up a taco. When the meat lacks flavor, the salsa fixed the taco, and vice versa. However, both the tacos AND the salsas lacked flavor. The meat in the asada and piqueña tacos were VERY tough and cold. I brought my family, so we all tried different items from the menu, and unfortunately, there wasn't an item that we could all agree on as being delicious. As the saying goes: live and learn. We will never come here again. Save your time and eat at any other street stand. They will definitely be better and cheaper! read more

Favorite tacos in Tijuana, plus a pleasant atmosphere (bring the kids)! Run by a sweet family eager to please. FOOD: All tacos sampled were excellent--the highlights were the specials that had cheese melted before the meats (all flavorful) were added. Most flavorful vegetarian tacos I had in town (e.g., seasoned mushrooms. Most places just omit the meat, leaving bland beans). Loved the salsa bar, which included ~6 salsas (the hottest brought me to fevered tears) and unlimited radishes :). Horchata was most excellent, as were the other homemade fruit refreshments (jugo de jamaica, tamarindo)--I do love tacos, but the drinks were a special highlight at Casa Sonora. For dessert, our server recommended coyotas, which I would best describe as a thin layer of deep-fried pastry with dulce de leche or leche in the middle. We chose a packet (shelf-stable!) off the wall, and the cook toasted it on the grill :)--surprisingly delicious (as someone who doesn't normally love panadería goods, even) SERVICE: Polite teenagers sat and served us throughout the dinner--they were very patient as we were paralyzed by indecision (so many good choices!) and answered all our questions. Bill arrived swiftly after we motioned for it. AMBIANCE: Family friendly, very warm, with reasonable seating (could bring one large group in). The ceilings were high, making the restaurant feel spacious, and the furnishings and paint were new. The hubs and I have a house here in Playas if you're familiar with the area there's a restaurant small little place where they serve the best tacos! But my far the best item on the menu forgot what what it's called but it's served on a cast iron pan with cheese potatoes shrimp and carne asada I believe you can choose your meats. There's a picture here someone posted of it omg beyond delicious recommended by a local here that's our neighbor. Let me tell you did not disappoint! Definitely hit the spot everything on the menu is so good can't go wrong but a little fast paced you're in and out of that place quick so quick that customers line up waiting to be seated it was a little weird literally the min hubs left the tip and we stood the next guests didn't wait for us to leave they immediately sat down lol but no biggie we were more than happy campers leaving that place. read more

I won't lie....I was a tad skeptical at first. But they definitely won my heart for whenever I'm looking for a bit different of a taco shop. So first...keep in mind if you're going here this is not a typical taqueria where they make your tacos in (generally) blazing fast speed. This is more of a taco restaurant meaning not quick service. So think of your typical taqueria as McDonalds or Burger King (with better food of course), Tacos Sonora would be your sit-down restaurant so like your Red Robins, Fuddruckers, TGI Friday's etc. But since they're not super chain-ish they have better quality than any of those three. Anyway, they have an eclectic menu, but I thought it was good. I tried three different tacos. My favorite was the one with BBQ rib meat. Downright delicious. My recommendation, if you're looking for an alternative to your typical taqueria, but still want tacos IMO this is the place to go! read more
