From all the good reviews, I so wanted to love this place but was a bit disappointed. It was not terribly busy for a Sunday nite; we went at about 6pm. The hostess was lovely and showed us to a ok table as it was right next to the dirty dishes and prep station of the waiters. I realize that space can be an issue so I understand why they needed to use this space. We were not horribly disturbed; it was just not ideal. Our waiter was nice enough but you can tell he was quite new and lacked some training. We waited 20 min for our first drink order so that was stike one. Our food came quickly but it was not warm and the waiter did not give us plates or napkins so luckily we were right next to the prep station so I could get my own. The flatware was in a bin on the table which I thought inappropriate as who knows how long it was there and who may have touched it. Strike two! Finally we ordered churros for dessert and they were overly crispy on the outside and not cooked well inside; the overly heavy sugar and cinnamon was unpleasant. I will acknowledge the lovely decor and the additional wait staff were also very good and it was appreciated. The location is ideal and the area around the restaurant was quite pleasant. Parking can be a challenge as the restaurant is very busy. They may consider a different plan for order pick up parking vs eat in parking to save spaces for the in house customers. We will go back again to give it another try as so many reviews are very positive.....we may have had an off nite. Feb 3, 2026 Thanks you David for reaching out as I really appreciated the time and effort you made to alleviate my concerns above. We will definitely try this again as I figured it was just an off nite. The other reviews were what brought us there in the first place so I can't wait to come back and try it again. Jan read more

This taco spot is a great addition to Sandy Hook! The ambiance alone makes it worth visiting -- it's set in a beautifully refurbished barn with two floors of seating, plenty of space, and lovely, trendy décor. Even though we waited about an hour to be seated (expected during prime-time weekend dinner hours), it didn't feel too bad since we were able to wait outside by the fire pit, which was a really nice touch. Be aware that they don't take reservations, so plan accordingly. Definitely recommend Tacobarn getting on OpenTable to avoid long wait times for customers. That would make such a difference. Also, review the parking instructions on Tacobarn's website or phone recording ahead of time -- very helpful, but you'll want to plan ahead. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and service was impressively quick despite the restaurant being completely full. The food was fresh, tasty, and well prepared. The jerk/coconut shrimp was delicious, though I would've loved a bit more coconut flavor. Portions are on the smaller side, and the menu is very à la carte -- not like a traditional Mexican/taco restaurant where tacos or bowls come with rice and beans. Just something to keep in mind. The churros were hands down the best we've ever had -- absolutely outstanding! The guacamole (which was excellent in flavor) was a bit of a disappointment in terms of size and presentation. We ordered the "large" for four people and were surprised at how small it was. We also expected it to be served in a molcajete for a bit more presentation value. However, the homemade chips were divine! A few small details could use attention. The silverware and three sauces are kept in a caddy on the table, which felt a bit tacky given the otherwise elevated ambiance. Cocktails were tasty but lacked presentation -- especially compared to another taco restaurant we visited the night before where the portions and cocktail presentation were top notch. Overall, though, it was a great night out. The atmosphere, food quality, and service really shine. With a little more attention to detail on presentation and portions, this place would be next level. We would definitely go back and highly recommend it! Thank you, Tacobarn, for a great evening! read more

The overall experience was excellent! Can't wait to go back. Loved the family style servings. We did tacos, guacamole, a couple of other appetizers, margaritas and the churros. Our server was excellent and knowledgeable too. read more

Looking forward to coming back! We had a late lunch at tacobarn this past weekend - We tried the steak, chicken, and fish tacos, queso, and the birria quesadilla - everything was great. Our server was so sweet and accommodating plus the building is super cool, going to be an awesome hang out spot on warm nights in the outdoor area!! Can't wait to grab dinner here soon with girlfriends or for a date night! read more

Love the vibe of the place. Service was super slow, took 15mins to get a marg at Saturday lunch and the food was so so. I got the mushroom bowl. Mushroom and crema was tasty but the rice was tasteless and on the al dente side (meh). Guac was bland. Best thing was the duck taco which my sister got. I think if the kitchen does a few tweaks, use yellow or some other spiced rice and upscale the Marg's with fresh lime juice not sweet and sour mix this could go up to four stars. Love the outdoor space but food and drinks need to level up. read more

Food was good and I loved the vibes. The seats could be more comfortable and the menu could use a few more options, but overall I enjoyed it and service was great. Looking forward to my next visit read more

See all

I had the carne asada rice bowl, chips (especially good-firm crunchy texture, much more satisfying than the average chip) and guac, and a red Sangria. All were excellent. The rice bowl was just the right amount of food and delicious, but... no leftovers. The service was good and the waiter was fun and friendly. The overall vibe was also good. My only complaint was that the portions were small. My friends who ordered tacos got ... one taco. They had assumed there would be at least 2 or 3. So if you are there for dinner and you order a taco, you should probably order more than one or something to go with it. Also, the tacos from everyone's order came on the same dish, which we thought was strange. In any case, my food was delicious, the vibe was great, and the people were nice. Small portions for the price are my only complaint. read more

Food and ambience are both great. Thumbs up. The home made tortillas chips are great and so is the salads. It's a great new place to have in Sandy Hook. read more

Amazing Food and Atmosphere at Tacobarn! I had such a fantastic experience at Tacobarn in Sandy Hook, CT! The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, and the food looked incredible--and it tasted even better. I went with friends, and we shared a bunch of appetizers that were outstanding. Highly recommend the Quesadilla, Brussels sprouts, and Street Corn! For drinks, my friends raved about the Margarita, but I tried the Spicy Garden, which was refreshing and delicious--definitely my new favorite! We also sampled several taco options, and they were all fantastic. My personal favorites were the Pork Belly and Carne Asada. The wait staff was attentive, friendly, and made the experience even better. I highly recommend Tacobarn and can't wait to go back! read more

Ambiance was nice, it almost felt like we were at a Bartaco. The food tasted good but what we didn't like so much was how cold the food was once it got to our table. I'm sure warm, fresh tacos would have tasted 1000 times better. Drinks are strong and good although it took a while for them to arrive. read more

Everything is so good. Food, service, ambience! So cozy with the fire outside while you wait too. Can't wait to rerun this weekend. So glad to have this new spot so close by! Summers on the patio with a Margarita will be great! read more

Worth the wait! I took my daughter on a busy Friday night. Place was packed with mostly families. We were originally told there would be a 20 min wait but they managed to seat us right away. The service was outstanding. I tried 3 different tacos and they were delicious. Some might say they are small tacos (3 bites) but they are also priced accordingly. House margarita was served in a rocks glass which I usually don't like but again, they were delicious and not too expensive. It's all about quality over quantity at the Taco Barn. Will definitely be returning. read more

A wonderful addition to the town! Such an incredible experience. Ambience is wonderful, very friendly employees and the food A+!

Today was my first visit. I can only describe the food as superb!! I would not usually drive 45 minutes for dinner. But I now would not hesitate to return!! read more

We ate here last night for first time. My new best Taco place in town. The service was great, the location was very nice and interesting with ample parking, and the food was delicious. Has an outdoor seating area with a firepit that was going but too cold to sit outside at this time, will be nice later in the spring. We had Chips with Guac & Salsa to start and then the Chicken, Carne Asada, Duck, Pork Belly, Avocado & Tuna tacos between the 3 of us and everyone agreed they were all excellent. Will be going back for more. read more

This was our second visit to Taco Barn and it did not disappoint. The crowd and atmosphere was lively and the service was very professional and appropriate for how busy the restaurant was. We shared the mushroom tostada (very tasty) and the beef quesadilla (also very good). The romaine wedge with carne asada was very good but messy due to small plate size so next time I will order the chopped salad version. My husband had the jerk rice bowl and loved it. Also, this time we ate upstairs and we enjoyed the atmosphere up there as well. After dinner we sat at the bar for a glass of wine and the bartenders were very efficient and pleasant! I would highly recommend trying this new restaurant in Sandy Hook! read more

From the moment you walk into Tacobarn, you feel a sense of rustic charm. Very relaxing with comfortable seating and vibrant atmosphere! Every detail is captured from the reclaimed wood walls and unique decor to the eco-friendly paper take-home containers! An authentic Mexican restaurant that is sure to please the pallet. I especially loved the fresh guacamole and chips appetizer with large crunchy tortilla chips lightly salted and chunks of avocado in the guacamole mixed with onion, cilantro sprinkled with jalapenos and lime - very tasty! Then it got even better with the Rustic Chicken Soup, done perfectly with large chunks of carrots and braised chicken with rice mixed in - it was the perfect comfort treat on a cold night! Great service also! The staff was very friendly and attentive. Our server, Helen, was very personable and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend Tacobarn for its nice ambiance, delicious food and a great time out relaxing with friends/family!! read more

I can't recommend Taco Barn in Sandy Hook enough! The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the atmosphere is simply beautiful. The food is absolutely delicious -- the Birria quesadilla is a must-try, and the chorizo taco quickly became my favorite. Don't miss the chips and guacamole, they're fresh and flavorful. If you're looking for your new go-to place, look no further! read more

Me and my two daughters have been enjoying this restaurant for a couple of months now and for the most part the food is good. What I have a hard time with is not taking reservations, which I don't agree. There are many families that come to this restaurant with young kids who don't have the pleasure to wait 1 hr and 20 minutes to feed their child. This was our experience this past Saturday and my daughters were miserable and starving and we were very close in leaving and never returning. When we were finally called for our table our appetizers and one kids quesadilla came quick but no plates or napkins. I ordered a drink which took 25mins to arrive. The chips with the guacamole were good but for some reason the chips tasted extra salty and inedible even when we scraped it off. Overall I like the food, I do think portions are small, staff does take a long time and many times they brought the wrong food over/or our food was sent somewhere else. One more thing that I did notice on Saturday was staff was taking a very long time to bus the dirty tables, when you have us waiting over an hour those tables should be turned quick especially on a Saturday. If I do return it would never be during the weekend which is unfortunate. read more

Gave taco barn another go around. They got rid of the stupid papers to fill out, They ask you once you sit down now if you want guac which is also a nice change. The service was definitely faster except the drinks. The drinks took about 15 minutes or so each time. Appetizers came before the drinks which is way too slow. Food was definitely better. I don't really like that all the tacos come out all mixed together instead of giving them to people as they individually ordered. So once they come you all need to figure out and divvy them up yourselves. Stuffs falling out as you're trying to transfer them to your plate. It just doesn't really make sense. There's 100% been improvements made. I still absolutely hate the churros. My friend literally said "these are the worst churros i think I've ever had". Doesn't mean they are nasty tasting but I wouldn't call them churros. They are still basically thick undercooked doughnuts. I won't order them again but the tres leche is good. The vibe of the restaurant is amazing. Can't compliment it enough. They currently don't take reservations which pretty much means a wait time is guaranteed. That's fine and all but it feels like there's nowhere to wait. The bar area unfortunately is tight so if you wait at the bar a there isn't a seat available you will be in the way. I do like the food enough to come back, but at this point, I do know what not to order. Also not sure if they are still understaffed. The hostess seemed to also be taking orders so when we arrived, no one was there and three other groups were also waiting to be seated. read more
