Really wanted to like this more than I did - especially after driving over an hour to eat here. Love the building, the ambiance, and the service. Didn't love the drinks or the size of the tacos. Tried two different drinks - first was overly sweet so they took it back. Swapped it out w a house marg and it tasted like lime juice. Really didn't even want to drink that one either. Taco flavors were good. But even w an app and three tacos I left a little hungry. I will say pricing was very fair and anywhere you can get dinner for 2 around $60 seems like a good deal. Parking is limited at the resturant but plenty of street parking and a HUGE public lot just steps away. Walked inside and was instantly impressed. Great use of space and decor was warm and inviting. We were seated immediately on the first floor (which I learned later was a mistake) and waited over 20 minutes for a server and still nothing. I got up and asked the hostess and she said omg she was so sorry and our waiter came a few moments later to at least take our drink order and bring us water. After that everything went smoothly. What we did find out from another couple at the table next to us is most of the tables are upstairs and a different server has a different table on the 1st level. Explains why there were several different servers constantly walking by us, as they have to pass us to proceed down another level to the kitchen. I don't blame the staff. First time here. Found it by accident. Beautiful restaurant with gorgeous inside dining and covered and sunlit outside dining. Service was good, one thing I would like to see is queso that comes out hot. It's so good but was lukewarm and not spicy so we asked them to add fresh jalapeños and heat it up. It still came lukewarm warm but better with the fresh jalapeños. The three tacos we tried were mushroom (very little mushrooms), carne taco was good but chicken taco was absolutely amazing!! This place is gorgeous! Both inside and out. Love the esthetic, it's clean and bright. The downside of it, at least while dining upstairs is that the tables are VERY close together against the wall, which makes it awkward for people to get in/out of the bench side. It is also incredibly loud. It was difficult for my date and I to try and conversation without leaning over the table and talking louder than I'd like to. That aside, Shane, our waiter was friendly, attentive, and gave good recommendations. Checked in with us frequently, but not overbearing The quac was good, but an extremely small portion, even for a "small". The queso was bland, a bit runny, and only at room temperature. We got the summer squash special and the Baja fish taco. I'm sorry but it was a joke the pieces of protein that were in the tacos. It tasted great, but for those two tacos there was about a baby size worth of protein. Which is strange because the steak, chicken and everything had plenty of protein. All the food was heavenly and well seasoned. Great mix of sauces and greens. I don't know if it was just a bad day for those two tacos haha forgot to mention that the chicken empanada was slamming with the sauce and so was the beef. Ceviche was good, but it could have used a little more salt! All of these meals had no issues with portion size! Tried Taco Barn for the first time and it absolutely lived up to the hype worth the drive from Hartford to Newtown. Ambience & Service- Loved the barn-style decor and cozy vibe. Andrew was friendly, attentive, and accommodating especially with my vegetarian request and even making an off-menu espresso martini. Food: Ordered Salsa and guacamole were great, though some chips were overly salty. Tacos were the highlight cauliflower, mushroom, and fried avocado were perfectly balanced and packed with flavor. Others at the table loved the pork belly, jerk shrimp, and chicken options. My husband loved the coconut sauce on jerk chicken and mentioned he felt he was having something out of a Thai food menu. Glazed pork belly was cooked to the perfection and loved the flavor. Our friends in the table ordered chicken Chorizo and mentioned they will be visiting again to try more. I am looking forward to coming here during warmer weather and trying out more food. Dessert- Tres leches had a noticeable cinnamon flavor, not my favorite, but not a dealbreaker. I recently took a Sunday afternoon ride to tacobarn after hearing so many positive things about it, and also being a long time fan of Chef Adam. I was very happy with my experience overall. I was seated upstairs, where it is very bright and open. I would be weary at peak times as tables aren't super far apart and even on a relatively calm Sunday afternoon it was a bit loud, but that's my taste. Service was friendly. But as one might expect, the main draw was the food, and that delivered. I ordered the chips and habanero/corn salsa, the Mexican Caesar, 3 tacos (cauliflower, baja fish & mushroom), & the smoked sanguine to drink. The drink was tasty and the use of fresh juice was apparent. The chips were very crisp and well fried, but ran out of salsa with quite a few left. The salad was solid. The tacos were the highlight, with the mushroom standing out to me actually as the most flavorful. While I wouldn't say I was blown away, I would definitely go back. It was a very solid place. We tried the birria quesadilla (so rich in the best way), carnitas empanadas (the aji Amarillo aioli was incredible), and a selection of tacos including chicken, duck, fish, and pork belly, all wonderful. My girlfriend really wanted to try this place since its menu seemed similar to bar taco. We ended up going on Saturday night so you can imagine how busy it was. The wait time was estimated to be about an hour but took a-lot less than that to get a table for 2 which was awesome. For starters the place looked amazing. Room was well decorated and designed. Nice dim lighting and the seats were very comfortable. We started off with some chips and guac (very good), beef and chicken empanadas, birria quesadillas(very good too), esquites and it was amazing. Chicken empanadas not much of a fan of but for starters, everything else was very good, especially the esquites (very delicious). Ordered some to go as well lol Ordered tacos as well with our starters/sides. They were good but it did take about an hour for them to come out, a little mix up with the order down in the kitchen but they apologize for it and gave us the tacos + dessert on the house which was very generous of them. First time visiting Tacobarn and have to say we enjoyed it, but there were some things that could use some help. First off, we sat at the bar and our bartender Sara was AMAZING. Very friendly and approachable, and on the money with her descriptions and opinions on food and drink. Where our visit fell short was mainly two things. 1. The Margaritas are weak. Not enough tequila or mezcal. I'm not I fan of the orange liqueur they use (too sour) and the Joven tequila just doesn't make for a flavorful drink. Give me a solid Reposado instead and use Cointreau for your liqueur and you'd have a banging Margarita. We were also not offered a salted rim. 2. The Chopped Salad. The ingredients are great. Unfortunately the bowl it's served in is far too small and it was absolutely soaked in dressing. There was a pool of it left at the bottom of the bowl. The tacos are street style, which I love. We had 5. Jerk Shrimp, Baja Fish, Hangar Steak, Duck and Peruvian Chicken. All were absolutely delicious, with the Duck and Hangar Steak being the standouts. Guacamole was good, though the portion is small. Large round chips were different z, bud good and flavorful. Those two minor issues and this place would be a 5. It certainly would not stop us from going back. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Met a few friends there for supper and was very pleasantly surprised. The "barn" is beautiful, with wonderful casual, yet elegant ambiance. Service excellent, and food delicious. We had housemade margaritas, guac with unique chips, the chicken rice bowl, sesame chicken lettuce taco, and ice cream. All very good! And the price was very reasonable!
