Just placed a order at around 6:15 pm. It was a pretty big order, but the girl taking read it back perfectly. Picked up the order at the drive thru window, and was asked if I needed a spoon for the enchilada, and the bean cup. Got home and inspected our order. Found no enchilada, taco, or extra red sauce. Called the restaurant and informed the person on the phone (same that took the order) that we were missing items. She proceeded to tell me that the items were in the bags given to us, after I had to tell her our complete order because I couldn't find the receipt. Even after that, she continued to argue with me and basically calling me a liar for stating that we were missing items from the order. Granted the missing items were 6-7$, it was a person's dinner. We live 20 minutes away, and there was no going back after we were already dressed out. At that point, she stated I was basically S. O. L after I asked if we could get a credit for the missing items (not the first time that this has happened at this location. Pretty sure she has answered the phone when I called with the same issues before, and pretty much response was the same). After I saw the confirmation was not going anywhere, I stated that I was just letting them know of the issue, and got a very sarcastic response. I've been going to this place for over 3 decades, and I have seen a serious decline in customer service and thoroughness of orders. Not pleased about it, and will not be going to this location again. After some Yelp Talk Yakity Yak about tacos, I heard tales about Taco Tree and decided I would give them a try the next time I was up in Auburn. I stopped-in at apparently the same time that school was getting out. The place was jam-packed with teens looking to take advantage of tasty tacos and low prices at the Tree. I was surprised at how polite the teens were in comparison to teens down the hill in Burbville. I tried the "taco" and the "Small Super Nachos." They were both a notch above the "Bell" (the closest pseudo-Mexican fast food business I can compare them too). The chips were thick and crunchy and held-up well to the generous toppings. I was offered jalapeños on the side when I ordered. They were relatively mild but a good addition to the nachos. The taco was smothered in shredded cheese...so much so that it was the predominant flavor. Overall, I liked the seasoning of the beef and the overall quality for a fast food offering. If the Tree was down in the valley, they would do well with the teens and the late night crowd. I still prefer taquerías over "American style" Mexican fast food...but they do what they do well. read more

I drive all the way to Auburn to buy from this place. Each taco shell is a crunchy, filled with toppings, and heavy. The way an American Taco should be. Truly upsetting how a childhood favorite can go so downhill. My family & I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. This place was the definition of nostalgia and a local favorite. The food is still what it always has been but the customer service is absolutely nonexistent now. This review is directly for the south Auburn location by Placer High. I want to say the last 3 times have been awful. I am a very understanding person of someone having a bad day, I work in customer service as well. But when it is 3 times in a row, you have an ongoing issue. The first time was just an attitude from an employee and I figured she was just having an off day. She closed the window in my face when I was trying to ask for napkins and never came back. I brushed it off and went on with my day. The second visit was my order being messed up. I didn't call or complain, I just drove back to have it re-made. No big deal. When I got up to the window the girls were all staring and nobody apologized for the mess up. The girl reached her hand out and grabbed the box of nachos. They were swamp style and she said "where are the chips?!" I showed her the bag and she grabbed them away. Then gave so much attitude about remaking it. No apology, no smile, no have a good day, just slammed the window closed and turned to talk to the other employees. The third visit was even better. I came in the morning for a breakfast burrito and asked what came on them. "What it says on the menu is what's on them!" Okay rude, it doesn't state it has SALSA on the menu that's what I was trying to ask. I decided to let her know she was rude and that I'll take my money elsewhere. If you want peoples business then a word of advice, don't talk to them like they're stupid. It's just the fact that a small family owned business has some employees that are so damn rude to customers that have loved this local business for years. Don't take your bad days out on customers. Don't talk down on me and put a damn smile on your faces. You should really consider who is working the drive thru window and put someone friendlier up there to make a better impression so people want to spend their money there. read more

Pretty much over this place now. Food is just barely OK but usually the line goes pretty fast and it's close to home and good for when we don't want to cook. BUT the last time I was there after waiting in the drive through line for like 10 minutes someone comes out at 6:45 and says they are closing at 7:00 and they won't be serving me. Our family always stops here whenever we pass through Auburn. I grew up in Auburn, went to the "Burrito Bush" many times at lunch at PHS (Go Hillmen!). Food tastes great and has been consistent since the 80's. Quality food, great taste, efficient and friendly staff. The tacos and burritos are my go-to staples. I won't talk about the food. My family loves the food but I don't that much. I have had much butter Mexican food from many unexpected places. This rating is because of freaking rude behavior of people taking Drive through order. First of all they sound like they are doing us a favor by taking our orders. Completely disinterested. I am not expecting a cheerful greeting or be upbeat about it but don't sound like you are doing us a favor either. Second, if you want to clarify something with your order, the guy was rude to cut us off in middle and again sounded like "yeah you silly person it comes on the side". My girlfriend ordered 2 small super nachos, one without olives and added jalapeños. She just wanted to make sure that they put jalapeño on the one with no olives and this guy cut her in middle and in a sarcastic tone said 'it comes on the side'. We ordered chicken super tacos, and what we got was a sad shell full of iceberg lettuce, cheese, and LIES - there was absolutely ZERO chicken. I have stopped here for quick lunch breaks twice this summer and the food was very good. The ground beef in the taco is nicely seasoned and the ingredients have tasted fresh. The chicken burrito is loaded with white meat chicken that again has been seasoned to really bring out the flavor. Available salsa was a perfect compliment to the meal. The cheese tasted fresh and appeared to be recently grated. The packets of mild and hot sauce that comes with the meal is amazing. I've never had better. Not a huge menu, more like a In-N-Out for variety, but a great bargain for what you get. Free drink refills at the counter and quick service. This is the original location and is in the downtown area of Auburn. A much newer and larger location is on Hwy 49 just north of town. Employees are friendly and helpful. A bit of a quaint old town atmosphere at this long-time location for Taco Tree. read more

It's unfortunate that I have to give this place 1 star because we actually like the food and stop here on occasion when we are on road trips to California from Reno. But we just stopped and was denied access to the bathroom because they are "short staffed". I have a medical problem and carry a medical bathroom access card and after being told "they aren't allowed to let me use the bathroom" I felt compelled to announce there unethical treatment! The lady at the window was also rude. I can understand they may not realize the severity of the situation but she wasn't willing to even listen. We probably won't be back, cannot support a business that has no human empathy and is rude, no matter if we like the food or not.
