Having the fountain drinks behind the counter is ridiculous. We had to wait in line to ask for refills from a staff that was very busy. There are no napkins out in the dining area, again only up by the cash register. Also, the manager (owner) yelling at her employees yesterday was very sad. They all looked like they were trying their hardest but she would yell about customers at the counter instead of just walking up and greeting them. In another example, I could hear her correct an employee on how to make a salad and she did a much nicer job sounding kind. I hope the employees feel happy working for this manager, but it sure didn't look like it. The food was perfect for the price paid, style akin to Taco Bell but much higher quality. Taco Tree has been around for as long as I can remember. Been coming here since I was a kid, over 30 years ago. I now live in Sacramento, but will try to make a stop whenever I am in Auburn. They have been serving great food with reasonable price for decades. Due to Covid-19, Taco Tree is still open for drive-tru, togo, and outside dining. They have about 5-6 tables outside for you to enjoy. This is a great place to go for lunch or if you need to grab a quick meal because their services are friendly and quick! read more

We have been going to this Taco Tree for years and the food has been great. Mainly stop by for the breakfast burritos. Unfortunately when we went through the drive thru they missed putting one of our orders in the bag. I went in to let them know and the girl who made our food got completely defensive and essentially called me a liar. Really? Wow. I've never had such rude service there. It's mediocre Americanized Mexican food in its purest form. It's a lot like Jimboys or Del taco but also totally unique and much better quality. This is everything that makes a fast food taco establishment and it's the best at it, something about this place is very crave-able. They have good beef enchiladas, bun tacos, tacos, burritos and refried beans with sauce and cheese. I am from Sacramento and it's worth the drive up for me. Service is good and polite, the employees actually care and the food is consistent. The interior is basic and a-lot like a classic jimboys. It's has a classic, cozy fast food feel. The super tacos (both chicken or beef) are good comfort food. Yes it is "Americanized" beef meaning a (lack of spices)- but that is what the taco sauce packets are for people. I've lived in Auburn since the 90s and I've always loved taco tree but today I had a really bad experience. I walked in to taco tree and went to use the bathroom first. When I came out, I walked up to the counter and one of the employees walked past me and then look back at me didn't say anything. I'll be with you in just a minute. One of the other employees making food looked at me and said do you want to order? I simply said yes, but still nobody helped me instead the employee made some sort of smart remark. I wasn't sure it was aimed at me until the other employee said what and she replied that wasn't at you. It wasn't a teenager that knew nothing about manners. This was an adult She should know better. If taco tree doesn't correct those kinds of attitudes with their employees they're gonna lose business fast. I ended up leaving because even after the smart remark and their discussion about it, they still did not help me. I was introduced to this place nearly 15 years ago, and even though I've had way better tasting tacos since than and before...I still get a hankering for Taco Tree. The tacos contain simple ground beef, fine fresh grated cheddar cheese and shredded lettuce, served in a store bought shell. The bun taco is the taco innards served on a hamburger bun. It reminds me of a loose meat sandwich. Tacos cost $1.49 and bun tacos are $2.02. Ask for packets of taco sauce. This particular Taco Tree location has been around for quite sometime. Before it was a Taco Tree, it was Joe's Frostie. This place has history and played a part of a lot of "Auburnites" lives. I have been coming here since around 1989-1990 when I was a young man. Im now 50. This place hasnt changed a bit. Great quality food, clean, cute, local and friendly. It still as that that small and homey feel. I move to Reno in 95 but have always stoped in when I travel down to Sac area. I recently moved back to the Roseville area this and introduced my wife to this little yummy spot. We now make an occasional special day trip up there on the Harley just for lunch. Always loved this place, but it's November 2021 and food safety, public health, and customer safety should still be a priority, but this place is not taking it seriously. Of the three people working just inside the drive thru window, only one was wearing a mask. The older lady who handed us our food didn't have a mask on--yikes.
