During my visit to Auburn, CA, I checked out Grumpy's. This is a real cool spot to grab a burger and watch a game. They have plenty of TV's in the bar area and a huge TV in the main dining area. I ordered the Nor-Cal Burger and it was great. Smash burger done right. Onion rings were also cooked perfectly & I loved the ranch sauce that came with it. Grumpy Burger in Auburn did not disappoint I ordered the patty melt and it was everything it should be--cheesy, melty, and straight-up delicious. Comfort food done right. I also love a good walk-up, order, and pay setup--quick, easy, no fuss. Bonus points for the good ice (you know the kind). Amazing staff snd food!!! Had a double hamburger and onion rings along with a Lemon beer. The bartender was hot and recommend this beer. Ordered food was fast and do good we will comeback. "Left GRUMPY afterwards!!!" -Location and vibe of restaurant is cool. Can't go wrong with two garage door windows. Opens up to spacious outdoor seatings. -Bar decor (see pix.) Anything on tap is usually good. There were a few local brew offerings. My timing was off, got a last half pour and Keg needed changing. Pretty sure i got a half old half new pint. Very flat "bootsy." -Was hoping for a super bomb, smashed burger. Fixing was fresh, but nothing amazing that stands out. Beef patty had more of a "over smashed, on the grill too long" flavor then anything else -Onion rings wasn't crispy. Kid likes the tots. Hopefully they kick the burger game up a notch. We seen all the good Yelp reviews and decided we would check it out sometime. One day we stopped and learned why they have good reviews. It's a small place with indoor/outdoor seating menu on the wall order at the counter. Hubby had a double cheeseburger which he loved fries are separate also very good. No vegetarian burgers. Really good milkshake. Soda's and beer too. Right off the highway, easy parking. Definitely worth checking out if you like a good burger as they say if you do a small and simple menu do it well... they understood the assignment! read more

Chocolate custard shake: 5 stars, but next time I'll ask for it in a beer glass, instead of an ocean-polluting throwaway plastic cup . Grumpy burger: 5 stars, no complaints! Yummy!! Burger bowl: wife polished it all off. She is Polish, after all...5 stars. French fries: 5 stars, 6 if I could do that. Fresh, hot, appropriately salty. Onion rings: overcooked for my taste but wife liked them. There was one that was less cooked than the others and that one was perfect. 4 stars. House made sauces: quite good but a little of the dilly ranch goes a long way. Still, 5 stars. Atmosphere: pleasant. Big tv for the sports fans, lovely fireplace in the corner. I want to sit next to it on my next visit. Neat and clean restaurant. 5 stars. Service: cheerful and friendly. 5 stars. Beer selection: meh. Only one dark(ish) beer and it's a boring one. I was on my way to a different bugger establishment but then thought about supporting small businesses. Let me tell you this place did not disappoint. The food was delicious. The place was very open, had plenty of seats inside and out, and had a bar. They also had TVs everywhere to enjoy sports games. I had the double smash with cheese added jalapeño and and order of tater tots with a side of grumpy sauce. Omg the bigger had amazing flavor , the patty was perfectly cooked. Came here for a late dinner really loved the burger bowl I think it was a large portion for an incredible price Full of protein and it was perfect for a pre-workout meal. Had lunch here after seeing it from the freeway. The Smashburger I ordered was very good. The house made burger sauce was excellent and the produce was fresh. My only issue is that the burger patty was a little too thin. The menu says it's a quarter pound patty but when smashed, get's pretty thin. Perhaps a 1/3 pound patty would be a better choice. The onion rings were good and the ranch dressing to dip them in was flavorful. There is no table service but employees stopped by the table a couple times to make sure everything was good with us. The restrooms were clean and properly stocked with towels, soap, etc. This was a good experience and I'll be back. read more

I stopped by around 2:45 pm on a weekend since the parking lot didn't seem to be packed. From the looks of it, they're doing a pretty decent business because the parking lot always seems full. I walked up to the counter and a very nice young lady took my order. I ordered a Grumpy Burger with cheese and everything on it, onion rings and a diet cola. I was given one of those light up buzzer things and my order was ready in under 10 minutes. Everything was still hot when I got home. The burger was well seasoned and all the ingredients were fresh. I will say that I didn't care for the Grumpy sauce that came on the burger, but that could be because there was just so much that it was overpowering. The next time I go I'll ask if they can sub with mayo. The onion rings were delicious...nice and crispy with generous portions. Their house made ranch doesn't taste like you'd expect typical ranch dressing to taste, but it wasn't unpleasant. Just different. Also, I love the ice in their ice machine! They have really cool decor, a nice bar to sit at or you can choose a tabletop to enjoy your beverage and a meal. Newly opened burger joint in Auburn working out the kinks in service. 12:43 on a Wednesday & the lot was full(shared lot with Black Bear Dinner) 20 wait was stated when we placed our order, no prob. Ordered Grumpy cheese burger, Grumpy burger,tots, onion rings & a chocolate custard shake. Sat outside,heat lamps @ the long community bar. All the outdoor tables were full. Inside fireplace tables were also pretty full. Seating at the bar as well. All the food was delicious, however it took about an hour from ordering to be notified by the ready Buzzer for pickup. Smash burgers were thin, crunchy on the edges, grilled onions, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles. Tots were hot & crunchy with a dill ranch dip similar to tartar sauce, excellent. Onion rings were lukewarm but plenty of crunch. Four or five TVs inside running sports reruns. Numerous local craft beer on tap,but they were outta four of them. Wine also available. Very nice people. Clean restaurant. They have the good ice. The food is insanely expensive with little options of what to order and the burger didn't really have a great flavor to it. It feels like to me, if you charge that much for food you should be having quality of each topping. The lettuce was awful. Barely any cheese. So many things wrong with my experience. The day before going to Grumpy's I tried calling to see if they offer a vegan option, or even a salad but it's impossible to get through to a live person. After arriving, a fellow customer directed us to stand in line to place our orders. I was assisting a senior citizen and gave the hostess/cashier her order as the hostess/cashier pushed buttons on the register. When we finished she finally looked up and asked if we were ready to order. I was confused and said we just placed our order. She responded with something along the lines of "sorry, I was doing something else". Then we were handed a buzzer. No direction on where to pick up our food or where to get our drinks. Found this little gem while driving up out of the Sacramento valley fog. It's a smashburger place! YUMMY!!! We both had a bacon and cheese smashburger, him plain, me with everything! It was mouthwatering! Of course they offer variations and other things like chicken sandwiches. Not sure what other sides they have but I had the fries, which were perfectly crisp and my husband had tots, also nice and crunchy. They have several beers on tap and soft drinks. Came at 1:30 on a Friday. Great service, fries are crispy on the outside and soft in the middle aka perfect and what seems to be fried to order. I also got a spicy chicken sandwich and if you like the spicy mccrispy at McDonald's this is for you but so much better. It's bigger, crispier, more flavorful and if you are a McDonald's lettuce fan they nailed it. Staff was awesome! Love that. Burger bun left a lot to be desired.. they flatten out and add no flavor. Shredded lettuce takes away from the crunch I love on a burger. I'd say Grumpy's gets the job done. Nothing spectacular but a decent burger w fries and/or onion rings. The flow is order and then go to the pick up window when your buzzer fires. The interior is clean and inviting- not very big so weekends might be tricky but we went for a Thursday lunch which was pretty quiet. TVs are there for any sporting event. Burger was a smashburger over but I commend them on the quantity and quality of the avocado on her burger. Beer selection was ok on tap - again nothing that would blow you away. From the moment we stepped in, we were welcomed by EVERYONE that worked here. What a refreshing way to feel when stepping into an establishment of ANY kind! Plus the food was AMAYYYYZINNNGGGG! I was excited to see another burger place open in Auburn. The burger tasted very good and overall was worth the visit. The fries were terrible. Sysco quality, expensive and a small amount. Overall the prices are tough. The order I received was not consistent with the price that I paid. The atmosphere was nice. They did a great job with the Starbucks remodel. Only counter service available and you pickup/ clear your own plates. Not sure why there point of sale asks for a tip. You're not getting service unless you sit at the bar. read more

We were sure excited to grab a burger since we knew & loved the "Old Grumpy's" The decor was cool but the food was not. The burger was decent sized but omg so so salty. I had the onion rings with mine and the oil was literally pooled up on the bottom of the tray. It was gross. I took 1 bite and my husband said "you gotta look at your lips, they are greasy as hell". It was nasty. Hubby had a cheeseburger and they took "flame broiled" to another level. It was torched. Also really salty. He loves salt & a little char but this was beyond. Normally we would say something but I had really wanted sushi so we dumped it and hit up our local favorite and I was so happy. Okay this place is AWESOME!! I can't believe we have lived here for a few years and have never been here. Such a great selection of smash burgers and they serve local beers, wine, and ciders. The staff is so sweet and efficient. They accidentally messed up my husband's burger and quickly got us a new one and were very sweet about it. The bathroom was the nicest bathroom I've ever experienced in a restaurant or store before. It was perfectly clean--no splash puddles or anything and the lighting was peak. It gave the whole thing a nice moody vibe. As for the burger, it was decent.
