The food is pretty average. We were hoping for more from a Mexican place in Austin, but then it's only a standard taqueria. The menu doesn't have a lot on it if you don't eat meat. I ordered the fish plate so I could give my daughter the spanish rice. The fried fish had no meat on it. I will call it a fish chip. The rest of the plate was fine. My son liked his bean and cheese burrito. I don't even remember what my husband got. I am giving it 3 stars because the salsa bar was awesome. They had so many salsa choices, pickled vegetables, onions, cilantro, lime etc. Very good. Also, they serve an excellent hot salsa with the tortilla chips. Edit: just remembered what my husband had and it's the other reason why this gets a 3 star and not just a 2. He ordered some veggie tacos. $2 each and that included egg and nopales taco. When I found out Taco More expanded to E. Riverside, just 1.6 miles (to be exact) from my condo, I was definitely in the mood for a trip to the East Side. I loved my Taco More experiences at their other location, and missed my radishes and cucumber n' salsa buffet. First bonus here - it's larger and there's plenty of seating here, that's awesome. And I see a few TV's - - another bonus! And they duplicated that awesome salsa bar w/ radishes, onions, jalapenos, and cucumbers - - another bonus! But the big kudos on my first trip was the excellent and friendly customer service I got from a waitress named Flor, she was da bomb. I always order the same thing at Taco More, 2 tacos, one with chicken and the 2nd w/ Al Pastor or Bistek (beef). This time I was looking to try something different, but I had no idea what to try and sometimes the recommendations provided by the servers aren't always spot-on. I explained my dilemma to Flor, she was too happy to oblige and patient walked through the menu. "Have you tried the Sopa's yet? The tortillas are made fresh here and it's popular". Wow, sounds awesome, I'm sold. Let's get one with Al Pastor and a Bistek. Food comes out in a jiffy, and I gotta say these $3 Sopas frickin' rocked! It's like a heaping chalupa on a toasted tortilla. I added the usual green salsa and was delighted w/ the flavor. It can get a little messy, but that's why she gave me a fork. As usual, these guys are very generous with the meat portions here - - they certainly don't skimp on the good stuff here. Water was filled promptly, Flor kept plugging the desserts with me, mainly the ChocoFlan which she said was the best. Sure, why not? So it's half chocolate cake and half flan, another runner brought it out to me packed in a styrofoam container. I took a couple of bites and was.....meh. The chocolate didn't taste that chocolatey, and wouldn't you know - - the date on the container indicated that this was 3 days old. Here comes Flor and I tell her about the lackluster experience and 3-day delay, she's feels quite bad and takes immediate action and brings back a new ChocoFlan w/ a more recent date, and oh my what a difference! She made me very happy - - great quality service with a smile. So Taco More has won me over again, been back twice since then and I guess you can call me a regular. One of my favorite Mexican dishes to get is a Carne Asada which is usually a flank or skirt steak. I got one from here and found it to be unique because it had nopales on it. Nopales is Spanish for "cactus"! I haven't had cactus before, but I enjoyed it! It's like a hybrid taste of green bean and bell pepper. My goodness. I want more tacos from Taco More. Absolutely delicious tacos for an affordable price. Thank goodness cheap tacos exist. The inside has a nice ambiance and is pretty roomy. A lot of the waitresses only speak Spanish but all you gotta say is what type of tacos you want and it's all bueno. The tacos are around $2 each and have so much flavor. It's honestly amazing. You can even get both breakfast tacos and normal ones, which is basically the dream. The food itself comes out pretty quickly, which is good because you'll be jealous of the people around you who already have their food, but not for long. First visit: 2 sopes (pretty big and delicious... but too much food to eat at once for me) 2nd visit: posole which i was super excited to eat. I asked for lime/cabbage. I finally got the cabbage when I was done with my food after watching my waitress chit chat with the cashier and another waitress for probably 15-20 minutes. It was either wait for it and let food get cold or just eat it without it. Don't let looks fool you, when I first brought my friends here, they were a bit weirded out by the dark shopping mall and questionable name. It does not get more authentic than Taco More in that area. They had all my favorite tacos that you cannot find at a typical Tex Mex joint. This includes lengua (beef tongue), tripa (tripe), and pork cheek. All cuts of meet were beyond tender and worked well with the cilantro and salsa. Additionally, they have an expansive salsa bar where you can pick from a variety of toppings and sauces including mild to super hot salsa verde varieties. After indulging in the gut bomb that is Torchy's, my girlfriend and I found ourselves in the mood for street style tacos on a recent trip to Austin. Our musts for a taco place included a well-stocked salsa bar and authentic meat offerings. Taco More fit the bill and we took a slight detour to sample the fare. We arrived to a dining room full of Hispanic patrons, a promising sign. The staff's English skills are limited, but pointing and saying how many tacos you want works well enough. We opted for cabrito (braised goat), chorizo, cabeza (beef cheek), and al pastor. Shortly after ordering, we raided the awesome salsa bar and received a fresh basket of chips. Those chips were served with a warm salsa we weren't too fond of, but the chips made for excellent munching with the other salsas (particularly fiery red and two cooler green varieties) from the bar. Our tacos, served on warm, soft corn tortillas, arrived shortly thereafter. Our favorites among the meats included well seasoned, spicy chorizo and meltingly tender cabrito. The proportions of meat, cilantro, and onions struck an ideal balance of flavors in each bite, and of course the aforementioned salsas perked up each taco to an intense flavor experience. These tacos hit the spot so well that we woke up 30 minutes early (after a long night of partying) to return here prior to our flight out of Austin. If you live around here (or have the means to shlep out to East Riverside if visiting), Taco More definitely merits a stop for a variety of awesome tacos in a super authentic setting. read more

This place is always packed when I come (usually on the weekends). Parking can be hard but the place is large that there's usually a table open even when it's super busy. I've had the menudo and the pozole as well as several tacos here and everything is wonderful. They have mariachi bands on the weekends too! read more

When you walk in, you'll seat yourself and soon after a plate of fresh tortilla chips will head your way, along with warm red salsa. I typically help myself to their open salsa bar and try all the various salsas. It's just one perk to the many positives here. Taco More is a not so hidden gem and has established itself as my go-to breakfast and taco shop. It's not that I don't dig those extra extra co-opted taco shops that have become an Austin staple - it's just that Taco More reminds me so much of the typical Mom and Pop taco shop I grew up eating at as a local Texan. I appreciate coming in and the norm being Spanish. I also appreciate their amazing al pastor tacos, their breakfast tacos, and their pollo soup! It's literally heaven coming here. I came here craving some authentic Mexican street tacos, and this place was pretty solid! I got four tacos: bisteck (steak), pastor (marinated pork), cabeza (beef head), and cabrito (goat). The cabrito was my favorite, and tasted like barbacoa. They have a salsa bar which has radishes, pickled onions, five different salsas, limes, etc. My favorite salsa was a creamy green colored one. They also serve free chips and a warm salsa that reminded me of a chicken tortilla soup. The service was mediocre, with the waitress never checking up on us after delivering our tacos. The workers basically only speak Spanish, so brush up on your Espanol before coming here. If anything, just point and order off the menu. Pay at the counter when you're done. Not bad, but in the Taco Capital of Texas the competition is steep. The tacos are fresh, and there is a pretty great salsa bar. The tortillas don't seem to be homemade which is a problem for a lot of taco connoisseurs that I know. The coffee is whatever. Strike one. Strike two is the service. The times that I've been there I am not exactly greeted. The employees seem irritated that I have walked in. On my first visit they seemed extremely irritated that I didn't know "the drill" in terms of where I should order, sit, etc... When I placed my order at the cashier area, I asked for a fork to be delivered with my tacos. Instead of pointing to some plastic forks where I could pick one up, the cashier just said "okay". Then when I asked for the fork again upon delivery, the server acted very put-out. Finally I realized it was because there were forks in a common area along with salsa. Sorry if I looked like an idiot but it was early and no one welcomed me or pointed this out. I didn't appreciate feeling like a jerk over a little miscommunication. No likey. This place gets three stars because the tacos are good. I don't personally feel they are better than other tacos, but they are fresh and they have their own special twist. Good job on that. Not too many places were open on Christmas Eve morning but after driving around I stumbled upon Taco More! The breakfast tacos were oh so good! The beans were fantastic and I always love when restaurants take the time to scramble the egg with bacon and not just lazy it up and stick a strip in. I only tried 3 salsas from the bar and all were EXTREMELY HOT, but I'm a wimp in the salsa department so I went with their mild salsa that came with the chips LOL The coffee was nice and strong and came with a side of shakes(I love this!). This place is chaotic and confusing (not just a language barrier; I do speak Spanish). It had some promising reviews, but unless I have some serious carnitas cravings, I will not return. 1. Off the bat, the service is terribly confusing. Do we find our own table? Will the waiter seat us? Do we order at the front? Answer: find your own table. 2. Once we did get a table and ordered our food, we had 5 different waitresses come up to our table with someone else's order...multiple times. They ended up just asking the 5 closest tables if that's what they ordered. There are table numbers. How is this so confusing? 3. Once we finished, we waited for the check and got mixed responses. One person said pay at the table and one said pay at the front....right...um, what? Was it worth it? Well, the CARNITAS were actually really good, nothing else. I've tried most of the menu at Taco More, and here's what I come here for: * The consome de cabrito (goat soup) is one of the best dishes in Austin, and a fantastic value at $3 for a small bowl. If you dine in, you get a basket of chips included (along with a portion of their special warm salsa). * The pozole is one of the best versions I've had in town, with large hunks of pig meat. * The salsa bar lets you load up on cucumbers, radishes, roasted jalapenos and onions so that you sort of get a bit of veggies. I'm not really a fan of their tacos since the tortillas kinda suck and there are much better options in town for that. The service also leaves a lot to be desired.
