I haven't eaten at Taco Del Mar in several years. I saw an ad in the local penny saver advertising " for a limited time only" Tamales. I thought I would give them a try. What a mistake. I asked for one Chicken and one Pork tamale. I should have left once the server pulled out of the refrigerator these two items that didn't even resemble a Tamale. They were in plastic wrap and then put into a microwave for 3 minutes. The server asked me if I wanted salsa and I said no. Then without asking she poured this white stuff on the Tamales that was supposed to be sour cream. As I kept eating around the so called sour cream and these so called tamales , I wondered why I was eating these things. They were tasteless . I learned a good lesson . Stay away from fast food so called restaurants. What a waste of money. Buyer beware. read more

I'm a longtime TDM fan, but this place is special. They saved my day! I had eaten earlier at another "restaurant" in Bend that advertised lomo saltado. After 3 bites of that nightmare, I was left with the lingering taste of hot garbage on my tongue. I felt deceived and disgusted. Then I saw my oasis: Taco Del Mar; my flavor savior! Chris, El Presidente, greeted me warmly and promised me that everything would be ok. He delivered on his promise with two perfect fish tacos. Now, these aren't some fancy-ass, blackened wahoo tacos with truffle aioli at a Juan Les Pins beach hotel. But they're flawless, flaky, crunchy, tangy, cold-where-they-should-be-cold and hot-where-they-should-be-hot masterpieces. And that secret white sauce is like winning the lottery on your birthday. We used to really enjoy eating here and frequented at least once a week. Unfortunately they seem to have gone downhill fast in the past few years. Had lunch yesterday and it will be the last. We ordered 2 Baja bowls and 1 burrito. The same person made all 3 items but somehow managed to make the Baja bowls drastically different in size when the only difference between the two orders was the meat type. About 1/4 cup of cheese on mine and literally less than a tablespoon on the other. The entire lettuce pile was rusty and should have been replaced not served. We ordered 3 drinks to go with our meals and had to ask for the cups 3 times before the cashier reluctantly handed them to us, it was strange. To top it all off I paid cash and I had to repeatedly ask for a receipt, even at one point told I couldn't have one until I pressed the issue. We will not be back. read more

This location really needs some work. My wife and I went in and we paid for meals and were told that drinks are not included. We have been to many taco Del Mar's before and drinks have always been included in the meal. An additional four dollars for just chips seems a little bit outrageous. I was also not asked before about what burrito shell I would like and when I told the employee that I wanted spinach they said that I couldn't have it because they already started to warm the plain burrito shell. Kind of sad that they would treat a customer this way. I was asked if I wanted queso cheese but it was an extra $1.50?!?! Lunch is always good here. Super fast and friendly service. Lots of options to make the perfect meal. I usually eat the taco salad with chicken and medium sauce. But the Baja bowls are really good too, and less calories. The burritos are awesome with beans and meat and cheese and toppings. Plenty of drink choices, and always fully stocked supplies of utensils and napkins. Give lunch a go here, you won't be disappointed. read more

Generally, we enjoy the food here at Taco Del Mar. today, not so much. Apparently there have been changes in the suppliers as the meats are nowhere near the quality it was before. The chicken is normally shredded, and quite tasty. What they had today was cut in sections and had the consistency of a gluey rubber. The pork was also not of the. Same level of quality as before. Yes....five stars for a "fast food" chain restaurant. This place rocks for cheap, delicious burritos, etc. It's also a Coke place. (A definite plus for my wife.) Not the first time we've been here, but we popped in today for lunch while shopping over at Best Buy. Wife and daughter each had a "mondito" (petite) sized burrito while I went for the "mondo" sized monster. It's "build your own" style much like you would do at "Subway". First you choose your type of tortilla (flour, whole wheat, spinach, tomato), then sour cream and / or guacamole. Followed by rice. On to the beans (refried, black, pinto), then meat (chicken, pork, shredded beef), finally your other toppings while moving along the counter. When they've got your burrito loaded just how you want it, they wrap it up neat as can be and it's time to enjoy. Carefully peel back the foil every few bites and no mess. Fun atmosphere. Great food. Excellent value. Taco Del Mar is a definite hit with our family. read more

I used to love Taco Del Mar when I first moved here, but I went away to college for a couple of years, and when I got back - it just wasn't the same. Taco Del Mar has always been a chain, but they really slipped into the chain mentality. They used to be a great 'economical' value, but now their food has caught up with the prices. I tried them again a few weeks ago when I was in the area, and the burritos were smaller and more expensive. We're talking Chipotle costs and McDonald food. To their credit, I will say that the staff is always super friendly and the place is always spotless. Taco Del Mar is another chain - nothing special. First? It's proximity to Trader Joe's! We like that close~in to NE Bend shopping thing. The staff greets you with a smile:) always...even if it's 2 min. to closing time. The place is neat, tidy & clean for mexi-fast food. The food is consistant & you can pick & choose any & every addition to your taco/burrito/taco salad. I like that. Mondo is a great word for a burrito...ya think? Your food is made to order, while you watch & wait and it's quick & healthier than all those "other" fast food mexi-joints. The only other better? Taco Del Mar used to be kinda janky about 10 to 15 years ago. Fresh ingredients, but their flavors were weak sauce. In Portland, it was just a shade above the old Macheezmo Mouse... Yeah, that bad. Thankfully things have changed a lot. I recommend the carnitas and the fish for their proteins. For menu items, I go for the Mondo Burritos, Tacos, Bowls, and the Nachos (regular or Super Meat). I like to splurge and get guacamole, sometimes guac and sour cream... Makes for a better meal. Anyways, not a whole lot to write about this pseudo-Mexican place. There are a lot more authentic places to go to but it's good food for what it is and it's good! I have to mention though that when I visited today, their special of the day is two fish tacos at a discount. I order a carnitas Mondo Burrito and it came out smelling very fishy. I couldn't taste the pork, unfortunately. I think they were using the fish tongs to serve my carnitas which, although I like their fish, it wasn't what I ordered, hence the 4 star review instead of 5 it could have earned. read more

The food is always good for what it is. But the recent hiring has caused this store to have some of the worst customer service i have ever experienced. The manager hired a bunch of school girls who do nothing extra outside of what they are required to do. No "Welcome to Taco del mar, cheery voices, no jokes no nothing that separates them from robots. Every time i walk in they are either leaning on something or back in the rear area giggling. there is one girl with black hair who is very kind, funny and has great customer service skills. The male (manager i assume) makes me want to never come back..as a matter of fact my family and i walked past after seeing him and a short hair girl working. they are equally useless and rude. I guess money is more important than a dedicated customer base so they hire robotic children and unquestioning sheep to do their bidding. NEWSFLASH!! We want and need good human interaction too or else we seek it elsewhere. As the owner of a local business and past hiring manager for a large retail chain in LA i can almost guarantee that the hiring manager didn't truly interview any of these new kids outside of "Can you work" are you in school" and gave them some math tests. I very seldom write reviews, let alone 5 star reviews. But I was visiting in Bend last week and while driving I saw Taco Del Mar. I remembered that my host had mentioned eating there, so I decided to give it a try. Being unfamiliar with some of the menu items, I had to ask the employee for some explanations and recommendations. Even though there were a few people in line behind me, she took the time to guide me through the offerings. What is nice about this place is that unlike other fast food restaurants where the food comes out of a kitchen in the back, here one can see exactly what is going into each thing you order. You can also appreciate the freshness of the ingredients, and know that everything is made to order and not sitting under a hot lamp. I ordered a taco salad made with chicken. The shell was light and crispy and the chicken was tender and tasty. It also looked and tasted like very good quality chicken, unlike some other places where the chicken tastes like scraps. I selected the type of beans, and exactly what toppings I wanted. My friend had tacos made with corn tortillas, and to begin with she only ordered two, but they were so good she went back and ordered another! All in all, I highly recommend Taco Del Mar. Whether you're a picky eater like me, or just want some great tasting, reasonably priced Mexican food, this is worth a try! read more

Bummer! Food is good I'll miss it. Lady spraying Pam on steel tubs that had old food stuck on them. I don't care that you say you washed them, If its still dirty wash it again. THATS NOT CLEAN. Then they stuck a nasty wet kitchen rag right into the meat I had selected. GROSS I can never go back after seeing that. If you don't think cleanliness is important maybe you should chat with your friends over at Chipotle! I am giving one star only because you can't give a no star rating. I was here last Sunday for my first and last time. We entered the location and there were no other customers. There was an employee young Asian man standing behind the counter staring off into space. We were not greeted nor acknowledged. After placing our orders and them getting it wrong there were no apologies or thank you's. We are from the East Coast but make a point to visit Taco del Mar every time we are in Bend. The food is always fresh and the staff is always friendly. I love the fish tacos. I keep ordering fish tacos at other restaurants and they never come close to what they serve at Taco del Mar. My two young daughters love the quesadillas as well as the chips and guacamole. TDM is conveniently located around Bend for a quick affordable meal made to order. I've come to like it and eat there frequently, but find the service (high turn over), food preparation (sloppy and scripted without personality), and even meal total (sometimes charge for guac and SC, sometimes don't) inconsistent at times. We are two people who order the same menu items each time (at the various locations) and it's never the same (quality of burrito roll is sometimes sloppy...so everything spills out, sometimes burrito has cold spots, sometimes cheese is not melted in quesadilla). I have always thought the chips were more of a store bought chip rather than an authentic mexican chip. The guacamole never disappoints, and I like the new mango salsa. It isn't the cheapest burrito meal in town, but you rarely have to wait as is the case at other similar burrito stops. My advice...stop trying to be all things to all people, focus on what you do well and people will come to you for that. There's a lot of burrito choices in town, I like that you are one of them. read more
