Carne Asada Burrito - Don Gabino's - Bend Oregon - Delivered via DoorDash - 10/01/2025
    Mark D.

Review - Don Gabino's Mexican Restaurant - Bend Oregon - Delivery DoorDash This review is based on a number of delivered meals from Don Gabino's. The orders have been delivered via DoorDash. This restaurant is very near my home. I mention this because the most noticeable thing in ordering delivery from there is that each time, the food has been cold. It is surprising to me that a burrito wrapped in foil would become cold so quickly. The other consistent trait with the food I've ordered from there is that the meat is consistently very salty. The food is neatly packaged. Outside of the saltiness, I've enjoyed the flavors of their food. Plus, I can take the foil off the burritos and heat them in the microwave. I've also had their carne asada plate. I was surprised that instead of sliced steak, it had small cubes of steak (the same as in their burritos). Discussing cost for Don Gabino's is a little complicated. Their costs in restaurant seem to be very reasonable. The cost via DoorDash is not. However, for my last order (today 10/01/2025), there was a discount. Carne Asada Burrito $16.25 Delivery Fee $0.00 Service Fee $0.81 Discount -$2.30 Dasher Tip $6.00 Total $20.76 This left the Carne Asada burrito at $13.95. There was a time I would have scoffed at a baseline burrito costing almost $14 but those days seem to have disappeared. The delivery from Don Gabino's is always fast. DoorDash routinely beats the estimated time of delivery when I order from there. In the end, this is an average burrito at what seems to now be the average burrito price in Bend. It will scratch the burrito itch. This is the Bend based Mexican restaurant I've ordered from the most often.

I wanted so badly to like this but the fish tacos were disappointing. Looked beautiful- but a lot of breading that wasn't piping hot, either. Rolled tacos were decent. Service was great- super kind and we were able to self serve salsas and chips.

Came here with two buddies and two other guys. We talked business and shop. No bull$@€*. We are men. Do not mess with us. Don't mess with these tacos either because they go CRAZY. Chips and salsa = chaching

I'm in Bend, traveling for work. I feel like Mexican can be dicey. But I had a craving and took the gamble. For the price, DoorDash-able and portion it's a solid 4 stars. 5th star goes to giving me EXACTLY what I asked in the DoorDash note. All beans, no rice and bought extra salsas. Thank you for a great Mex take out that's not nasty Tex Mex chipotle by default. Lol. Everything tasted fresh. I would go for it again. Would recommend. And thanks for including utensils!

Senior Don Gambino shares a small unassuming building with a tired looking bar on the east side of 3rd St. The small storefront windows are plastered with awards for their food!...from 2021! Is that a good thing? It's 2025. Anyway, I walked into a crowded approx. 20x40 space, with half dozen small tables plus a patio with another dozen tables. I walked up to the counter and quickly studied the internally lit menu board overhead. So far it felt like a Mexican version McDonalds. It was cinco de mayo, so I felt obligated to have Mexican food and a Corona to celebrate with our southern brothers. Enchilada and chili relleno, ordered, but no Corona! No beer at all (just like McDonalds.) I sat at a still sticky table with hard metal chairs. I visited the small salsa bar and sampled the "diablo" red sauce and the milder green sauce. Both were good and tasty on my free chips . My platter was delivered to my table in good time. First thing I noticed was that I couldn't see the enchilada or the chili relleno. I like a little shredded lettuce on top, but this was a huge mound that covered nearly the whole platter!. I shoved the nonsense mound to one end of the platter under which I found my order. It was tasty, as were the beans and rice, but I think I see why, for the past 4 years, no awards had been put on the windows. The salsa bar saved the day. The food lacked much flavor, leaving that task up to the salsa bar. This no-frills trip to the NW Mexican outpost was over. Sorry, non-plused on my first, and probably last visit. Adios mi amigos!

After all that hard work, our family always ends up back at El Rodeo. It's our go-to spot and has been for years. The service is always great and the people working there are genuinely friendly and kind. It feels like a real family restaurant where they're happy you showed up. The bar is also a fantastic place to grab a drink or margarita, play a little video poker, and end up talking to half the locals in Bend. Somehow you go in for dinner and leave feeling like you attended a neighborhood reunion. The food is exactly what you want when you're craving Mexican: hot, good, and a lot of it. I have never once left there hungry or disappointed. Plates show up looking like they were designed for a lumberjack who skipped lunch. They recently remodeled the bar, which looks nice... but personally I believe Mexican restaurants should be built once in about 1987 and then left exactly the same forever. It's part of the charm. That said, the remodel won't stop me from going back regularly. Great people, great food, strong margaritas, and the kind of place that makes Bend feel like home. Five stars all day.

Pair it with an ice-cold draft beer in a frosty mug and you're set. The menu covers all the staples, and portions are generous without being over the top. The owner is super friendly and we have the same few servers every time who even Renee our go to orders. My parents love their Chile Rellano with green sauce. They also have one of the best happy hours in Bend -- great prices, plenty of options, and that friendly, familiar vibe that makes it feel like a neighborhood favorite.

The calling and pickup experience was good. The super supreme burrito was definitely not super and was not enough to fill my appetite. It felt like there were ingredients missing and all I could taste was a lot of refried beans and some meat. Definitely was not super or supreme. I hope that it was a one time experience at this location. I tried the chicken fajita burrito with was quite watery and I was not expecting raw green onions in it, but overall left me craving for a better version of a burrito. Super Nachos were good, not the best that I've had but quite good for the price. Overall I'll try this location again just to see if it was just not the best day for the restaurant.

They cater to their clientele, the people of Bend. I don't blame them at all for catering to their customer's tastes. I ordered an all meat burrito, some fish tacos and a couple of carne asada tacos. Let's talk first about their tacos. The tortillas are flour tortillas. Most Mexican joints use corn tortillas. The fish tacos are made with tilapia. They are grilled, not fried. Not quite the same fish tacos that we have in Southern California. The carne asada was grilled. However, both tacos seemed to be missing flavor. Adding salsa did not help. The all meat burrito was indeed all meat. I thought I asked for carne asada, instead, I got a burrito full of shredded beef. Again, adding seasoning would've helped. I'll be super nice to them and give them 3 stars. But, if you come from an area with lots of Mexican food, you won't like this spot.
