Heard things have changed here, and haven't been in the area for about a year and a half, but was here weekly before, so I needed to see if my favorite place down here actually declined. Got our usual: 1 rockfish, 1 chorizo & shrimp, and 2 al pastor. Rockfish taco was still good, but smaller pieces now; shrimp & chorizo was dry, flavored different, and about half the filling size as the others; al pastor flavor completely different than it used to be. Altogether, it all just looked sad. The salsa station is now gone, and got put-out attitude by the worker when I asked for some salsa. Not sure what happened but whatever changes were made are not for the better, I hope we don't lose another great Bend food spot (like my previous favorite in town Aloha Cafe), but it's lost for me. read more

I took it to the one person at the counter and asked what she thought of this (see pic) and her response was that there's a lot of fat in barbacoa. I said the fat was from both. Visited tonight for the first time. Was a little surprised when you walk in you have to order via a computer screen. You can make modifications on the screen, but it does take a little time to place your order. We had to wait in line. Once we arrived. There is plenty of seating more on the patio, which can be a little cold. The margaritas were tasty but very strong lots of salsa options and nonalcoholic options as well. Staff was friendly, but it's just a little odd that they don't take your order. read more

I don't know what happened here but this place used to be my go to in Bend. Great street tacos at a very reasonable price. My son mentioned that they had recently gone downhill - but I had no idea how bad it was. I ordered my usual 3 tacos and they were done quickly - because everything was premade. Portions were tiny and the food was stone cold. The cashier couldn't be bothered to give me my food when it came out because she was looking at her phone. This place used to be hopping on Sunday afternoon but today it was dead and I can see why. So disappointing. read more

The tacos are very good, I've tried just about all of them and enjoyed every single one. My only gripe (and it's a small one) is the sign outside before they open that teases breakfast burritos. I feel that sign should be put outside just before opening, but this is a personal problem between me and my morning rumbly tummy. read more

Tacos are small street tacos size packed with flavor. We tried el pastor, wild Mexican shrimp and chorizo, fried rock fish, green chili and Oaxaca cheese and carnitas vampiros. The chips with the salsa queso was very gritty and I would not get it again. The guacamole needed salt but it was good. The tacos started at about $4.25 per taco and up. I Luv, luv, luv Hablo Tacos! I am from a long line of great cooks so I know the difference between good and great food. My Great Grandmother, my Grandmother and my Mother's cousin had restaurants on Historic Olvera street in Los Angeles. Today one of the restaurants is still owned and operated by my distant cousin. Hablo Tacos carnitas are the best I have had in Bend! I have tried every taco on the menu ( four at a time ) and luv them all but the carnitas are my favorite. The refried beans are muy sabroso and the rice is delicioso too. Are you channeling my Mama, who is in heaven, for her recipes? It would be nice if, I could order a small Mexican coke, the Horchata was dairy free and I could have a Choco Taco for dessert! (this girl can eat ) Keep up the good work! read more

Our favorite casual taco shop! The carnitas tacos are fantastic, and the chicken is served off a trompo. You can tell very fresh and clean ingredients are used. Loved the chips & quac and margaritas Order at counter & food comes out quickly every time. Can get your own sauces and salsas which is nice! The service is terrible. You walk in and no one greats you. There is a computer you order from and then the food shows up at the table. The cooks that are behind the computer could at least say hello. You even have to bus your own table. The person who dropped off the food didn't even say anything...just put it on the table. Had to order my own food (the terminal actually asked for a tip, lol), didn't get avocados I paid for (not worth the frustration to deal with), food showed up in togo boxes (I must have checked a wrong box in the ordering terminal I don't use everyday). Had 3 tacos - chicken tinga, Barbacoa, and Al Pastor with rice and beans. If the do, indeed "speak" tacos something got lost in the translation. Soggy as they served all three in one tray. Lacked any distinctive taste or flavor. Could've been so much better. Red and green sauce were watered down or simply weak. Service consists of ordering and paying at counter. Hablo Tacos is a fast casual spot located on the eastside near the hospital along with several other places (Bangers and Brews, Cafe Yumm, Sunriver Brewing, Life n Time). It's bound to be convenient to the medical workers in the area and the complex has a large parking lot. I noticed that Hablo is among the restaurant group that includes Bos Taurus, Miyagi Ramen and Nome, all local establishments. I was anticipating a good experience. Unfortunately, no. It was less than stellar. Extremely loud music playing inside, which was super annoying while standing in line to order and set my mood off right away. If I have trouble communicating with the person taking my order (a process which took too long for those in line), it's too loud for a lunch joint. The music in the courtyard was not quite as loud but still too much. There are a few tables inside but many more in the (semi) shared courtyard between Hablo and Bangers and Brews. I say "semi" because there's a railing down the middle separating the two restaurants' domains. Also a few tables outside next to the parking lot, if the weather is nice. Tacos: - Hablo tacos are small. I ordered two thinking they'd be the size of, say, the ones at Tacos El Machin where I lunched recently, or at any number of places in Bend. Nope. Should have ordered at least three, possibly four. At $3.50/$3.75 a pop, that makes for an expensive lunch. - Barbacoa taco: tasty enough but there was a chunk of fat in the beef the size of my little finger. Gah. No way the folks preparing the meat should have missed that. I hate having to spit out food in a restaurant. - Fried rockfish taco: If you're looking for a San Diego-style fish taco, keep looking. It was OK but no more than that. - Neither of the two bottles of hot sauce sitting out on the tables hit my fancy and both of the tacos needed a little help (particularly the fish taco). Hablo owners would do well to visit a few of the taco joints in town and see what sauces and salsa are offered there. Hablo Tacos seems like a place trying too hard to set themselves apart from the other taquerias in town, an effort that falls short in my book. read more

This place didn't just go downhill it went straight off a cliff. Crazy amount of flies in the whole establishment - you can watch them land on the prepared food that is sitting under the warmer waiting to be served. My food was sitting under said warmer for quite some time before I walked over and grabbed it myself. I mentioned the flies landing on the food (one actively nesting in the cabbage on one of my tacos) to a worker who was standing beside me seeing the same thing that I was seeing and he nonchalantly said, "I know they (the flies) are bad." This was my very first visit and I've been craving street tacos for awhile. I ordered 3 different tacos. The rockfish taco had a crust that was so soggy and gross. They only put 1 barely toasted corn tortilla, so that was very soggy as well. The shrimp and ceviche taco was the same, extremely soggy. The al pastor had great flavor, but it was put into the same basket with the soggy tortillas so the flavors were a little blended and messy which led to my tortilla being soaked. I think I will continue my search for the great street tacos :( read more

There are a number of great burrito and taco spots in Bend and Hablo Tacos just put itself towards the very top of that list! Went for dinner during a soft opening for the business. Despite the relatively untested staff and a packed restaurant, the service went very well. We ordered and received our food and drinks in a timely manner. Below are my notes on what we order (Our group of 6 went big and shared tacos!) Al pastor - A little on the sweeter side, but great flavor. If you opt for pineapple (I personally don't usually) on your pastor, this will be right up your alley Carne Asada - Table was split. I enjoyed it, but there was a unique sweetness/spice some didn't care for. I enjoyed but thought it was definitely non-traditional asada Carnitas - great flavor. straight forward, traditional flavor profile. A crowd favorite. Would love a little crispy edges, but great overall Barbacoa - good flavor. Really crispy pieces that added a nice textural component Queso fundido - I believe they are still dialing this in. The cheese alone did not have a ton of flavor and had a slightly odd texture, but mixed with the chorizo, cilantro, and other toppings was pretty good. Carnitas Vampiro - really awesome! None of us had heard of these before but really enjoyed. It was one of the last things I ate and the tortillas were still perfectly crisp. I thought the amount of meat on the vampiro was pretty generous - a good value Shrimp Taco - 1st thing I ate and one of my favorites. It was a little heavy on the sauce, but oh man! was it good! Pitcher of Classic Marg - perfect balance of sweet and tart; chile salt rim was a nice touch also. Throughout the meal, we kept commenting on how good they were. Love the fresh juice Michelada - really nice salinity and spice! Served with a tall Tecate so you can refill as you sip Everyone loved the griddled cheese on the inside of the tortillas. Cool way to add small amount of cheese that also protects the tortilla from breaking down too quickly If this is how this restaurant operates as it's just opening, I can't wait to go back and see when they have things "dialed-in". I actually love the food at this place. The Vampiro tacos are out of this world. We would come here regularly as we live close by and can walk. The last two times, my charged price on my card was higher than what I paid at the restaurant. Prices on the menu are not accurate and are higher than advertised. Top that with them adding a 30-40% tip on top of the inflated prices and I paid almost double that what I should have. Example, I ordered 2x Vampiros tacos, priced at $6 each, and tipped 15%, and my price I authorized was $13.80. Low and behold I was charged $17.22. Example 2, I ordered a plain kids quesadilla for my son, advertised and rung up for $4. Add in a 20% tip and I authorized $4.80, but was charged $5.60. Both transactions I asked for an email receipt which I never got. I've tried to call the restaurant multiple times during business hours, trying to get an explanation, and I have yet to have one person answer or help. So I called my bank, had them flag these last transactions as fraudulent, and I will never be back at Hablo Tacos ever again. read more

Used to be excellent, but their quality control is slipping. In the past I loved their al pastor because it had an authentic flavor and texture. It was cooked on a spit and had a nice bite to it. Now the cooks cut it off the trompo spit and throw in a pan where it stews into a mushy consistency and loses its fresh char flavor. In my opinion this isn't al pastor anymore. Also the roasted chili toreados used to be well roasted and have a deeper flavor. The last batch they had was barely cooked and lacked depth of flavor. I'm really disappointed in the Chef for letting these things slide. I hope the restaurant group Sixtop helps get these things straightened out or else Bend will have another mediocre Mexican restaurant. read more
