We knew that Austin is a foodie city and it didn't disappoint in the slightest in hitting all those food types that we were wanting to try. We enthusiastically marked off "Mexican" by coming to Taqueria De Diez. It wasn't in our bookmarks to try. I believe we came across it in a Google search or a Yelp search and we're impressed with the review score and decided to go check it out. It didn't disappoint at all. The review score average definitely held up. We got tacos here. I got three Asada tacos and I have to say that these tacos are the best I have had in recent memory. And I am all about tacos. I mean I LOVE tacos so that is saying a lot as I am such a snob with Mexican food. I can say with quite a bit of confidence... and this is even a bigger statement... these tacos may very well be the best I have EVER had. Now, I know that's saying a lot but they were so, so good. Months later from our dining experience there I am still thinking about this place. So if I could give more than five stars I most certainly would. Sometimes the no frills restaurants are the best and that is kind of what's going on here. It somewhat arranged with placing your order a tad bit like a cafeteria (but not an actual cafeteria). You place your food order and then wait for it at the end. Lots of customers take their orders to go but there is spots where you can dine in also. Steve and I did just that and we sat and enjoyed our tacos. So what makes me praise these tacos so much? I don't know for sure but the roll out of flavor on your tongue was just magical. The steak I imagine was prepared with perfection and got all of the tender, loving care it needed to be as amazing as it was. The rest of the toppings were great too as well as the sauces and the taco sized tortillas were probably a likely suspect as well in their perfection. It was so perfect. Taco bliss indeed. I long for these tacos again and if we are even somewhat close to Austin seeking this place out will be a no brainer for us.

It's actually considered a "reverse speakeasy" with a gorgous bar with a disco ball in the front, and mouthwatering food in the back. What do I mean by this, well you need to make sure you can find parking because this place is so delicious that it's packed most of the times I have visited. The burritos are generously sized but not over bloated or making your feel bloated, stuffed with tender meat of your choice, well-seasoned filling, and wrapped tight enough to stay together all the way to the last bite. Every one I've had has felt fresh and satisfying without being heavy. The tacos are just as impressive. The tortillas are warm and soft, and the fillings are bursting with flavor, from perfectly seasoned meats to fresh toppings like cilantro, onion, and a bright salsa that ties everything together. A squeeze of lime over the top and you've got a taco that's hard to stop eating. You will be offer corn or flour tortilla. For al pastor meat, my choice is flour and for carne asada my choice is always corn. The service is friendly and quick, even when the line is long, and the prices are fair for the quality you get. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite on your break or feeding a crowd, Las Trancas delivers every time. Highly recommended. Once, you have place your order you will receive a beeper to let you know when it is ready. I say my wait time has been less than five minutes honestly. They have covered and open seating. But simple food made with fresh ingredients and seasoned well has won Michelin stars. Unfortunately, I don't foresee them receiving one. The al pastor taco was tasty. The steak taco had too much fat in it. If I was strictly bashing this review on the food. I'd give it a three. It's not worth the price. Now, the service seemed to be decent until I didn't put a tip on my takeout order. Things seemed to go south. When my name was called, I grabbed the small paper bag and paused. No guacamole. If I hadn't have looked, I could've walked a really long wasteful before noticing. Maybe long enough to not go back. The last behind the counter, said okay I'll get it. It felt like a chore. I said thank you and made the long walk fighting the heat of the dragon's breath once again. The story does not stop there, I thought 3 tacos, a drink, and guacamole couldn't honestly cost $43. The guilt of spending that kind of money on such little food that was also just average, screamed in my conscience. Well, that was because the woman also had not given me my tres leches, which was going to be for my wife. Waited 30+ minutes for food while trapped in the drive through line. This is very common for this location! Avoid at all costs. Since the interior remodel this location looks like a grey toned prison inside and the seats are quite uncomfortable. This location gets a lot of rowdy students from the nearby IDEA school which makes dining inside unpleasant. This location also gets a lot of visits from unhoused people who may be experiencing mental health issues when they come in to steal free drinks from the soda fountain. The staff just pretend they are not even there while these folks panhandle customers in the dining area. On another visit I went inside, which still took forever, and there was an irate customer arguing with staff over being made to wait so darn long. Instead of trying to calm down the customer a white male staff member wearing black framed glasses egged on the customer! Have never seen staff not trying to de-escalate things and acting in such a rude fashion. Thought for sure a fight was about to break out in there and my family and I felt very unsafe. When we finally got our food a HALF HOUR after ordering the food was sloppily assembled and barely lukewarm. There are plenty of taco food trucks all up and down nearby North Lamar with way better food, better faster service, and more nutritious food. If you haven't tried any local taco trucks you are missing out! At these current high prices for taco bell you might as well eat local instead of eating corporate slop. read more

Mango Feliz is a fine and sophisticated taco truck…read more It runs towards the elaborate and the upscale . It delivers in both aspects. By day, it is a lunch truck for Tesla workers. Tesla workers have disposable income. They want more than just a plain fajita taco. By night, it serves the EDM dance hall, the Concourse Project when the Concourse Project has concerts. Your food quality does not have not have to be super-wonderful when you are dealing with armies of drunk undergraduates. Fortunately, the owner of Mango Feliz has high culinary principles. He serves the drunks the same fine food he serves the Tesla workers. * * * As far as this review is concerned, let me say Mango Feliz's food is just fine. I had a birria taco with a dip sauce that was everything I wanted it to be. * * * The headline story here is not the quality of Mango Feliz's first rate kitchen. The story is the experience of trying to eat Mexican food at the Concourse Project. The problem is that the Concourse Project does not provide Mango Feliz with very much furniture on which patrons can EAT their Mango Feliz goodies. The number of places to sit down in Project Concourse's outdoor bar area is limited. Those places are shared with people drinking goodies from the outside bar - and tired dancers having a rest. The only space that Mango Feliz has to itself is one very very rickety table - with open slats - and four high stools. Very rickety and very wobbly. I was able to get one of the stools. My order was a house specialty ... a birria taco with a cup of birria broth to dip it in. a) The birria broth comes in a thin little paper cup. There is quite a lot of broth but the cup is filled high. Wobbly table with open slats. High cup. Lots of hot liquid. You can already see some plot elements here already. b) The birria taco is significantly wider than is the birria broth cup. So the eater has to work to make the taco thin enough to dip inside the cup. This is doable - but the taco is filled with all sorts of goodies that need to be managed. c) There are no napkins. If you make a special request, you can get a paper towel from the taco guy. d) The table moves with each movement of the other patrons. e) Anything that spills will go through the slats on the table on to whatever is underneath the table. Generally that is your pants. f) I did this while being stone cold sober. My party hadn't started yet. You can imagine this situation if you are eating between sets, and you are already three drinks to the wind. * * * I still say Mango Feliz is a first rate establishment. I hope to eat there often. My dry cleaner also thinks Mango Feliz is a first rate establishment. She wants me to eat there often as well.
