Was told 10 minutes more.....tick tock tick tock.....20 minutes later they said 5 more minutes. Was expecting hot food, it was definitely not hot. It was barely warm even. Management here is the issue. I would recommend going here for anything but the food...unless you want to pay a hefty price for substandard food. read more

Came in here this time last year with a large party. We ordered a pizza because they had a pizza oven and thought it would be good. We waited over an hour only for someone to come out and tell us the dough is still frozen. Then why take our order for pizza. We came here again (mistake) and ordered a pizza for one person and they took our order. Then the same person came out and told us they don't have any "fresh" dough. Live music, booze, pool tables, a shuffle board, plenty of room to dance, and if youre not much of a boot scoot n boogie type, plenty of high top tables to booze it up and people watch. This review is for the restaurant part of the Tackle Box. Went in recently and had Alligator. I like that they serve this, and are probably the only place in town that does. They also have Bison, Elk, and Venison. I believe there is a lot of potential business in offering wild-game/wild-sourced foods. There is a lot of interest out there, with the Paleo Diet crowd, health-conscious, and other adventurous people. Plus there's the novelty factor. Now, I know the Tackle Box isn't supposed to be fancy. But they could step up their game some. First, I didn't want my Alligator deep fried, and I told the person I wanted it grilled. But it came out deep-fried. I ate it anyway, but deep-frying is just nasty. Second, they over-cook things. My friend had an elk burger which was cremated. He should have ordered it medium rare, but we weren't asked how he wanted it cooked. Wild game tends to be lean, and is easily over-cooked. Some of the issue might be that they have young people working there, who are inexperienced. We've all been there. Perfect training opportunity. The Tackle Box at present is a down-home country bar (and a big, loud, fun one, if that's your thing) with an attached fast-food kitchen. Though they have a cool wild-game twist and pizza on the menu, it is still sort of like Big Al's food. It seems as if the kitchen is missing a theme which would appeal to both the bar crowd and other folks. Think Guy Fieri, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. A go-to destination for it's unique offerings. I'm sure the owner/management has already thought of all this, but just from my perspective, I see a lot of untapped potential here. read more

Love this place! I go here during my lunch break a lot. Ya know every business has ups and downs, some days they are out of this or that but what restaurant doesn't deal with this? There is always something amazing to order, Taco Tuesdays, Wing Wednesdays, They always have a great selection. The owners and staff are amazing always willing to talk and be friendly. i ordered a cheeseburger, just a regular cheeseburger and on the day i went in there happened to be a 3 for 1 deal which was amazing considering one cheeseburger is like $13 but when i received my food i received 3 DOUBLE cheeseburgers. i know it seems exciting for other people but for me i don't eat much meat because it's overwhelming for me but i was craving burgers and yeah i could've just taken a patty off but the cheese was melted everywhere not only on the burger but all over the inside of the box which made it so much harder just to PICK UP the burger. so food quality was pretty good but wasn't presentable and was way too messy and much much over priced. read more

This place gives me the Heebies. I don't come here by choice, but I often have to because of my job. It's not full of the good kind of rednecks, its full of the bad sort. They must give a discount if you have a mullet or something. Currently it's 11pm, and there is a girl in her early 20's on the sidewalk, Smoking. Drinking a beer, and trying to keep 3 kids from wandering into the parking lot. The youngest is wearing only a diaper. Speaking of parking lots, it seems everyone that goes here drives like an asshole. Maybe it's a redneck thing. Or maybe it's because there is a good chance they are all drunk as shit and think driving is a good idea. Which is also probably a redneck thing. I've had the food here a few times. First of all, the kitchen is disgusting. It's almost enough to make you not want to order anything, but I pride myself on being able to fight off food borne illness. The burger was surprisingly not bad, although the condiment bar where your mayo stays nice and warm and gets that clear jelly look to it is a bit of a turn off. During the day there are likely some regulars sittting at the bar telling loud racist jokes and giving you the eye for being in their bar. I gave it two stars because there is almost always a very friendly and nice yellow lab hanging out in the bar. While I'm sure it violates some health codes or something, I'd rather split a burger with the dog then the majority of the patrons. read more

I was going to purchase some fishing items but declined on doing so since they did NOT sell licenses. Lunch Disappointment My husband and I went for lunch at 2:00 on a Sunday - big mistake. The parking lot was filled, we'd never been, we had a couple hours without the kids so we thought we would give it a try. Dirty. I am not a super picky person but you can see into their kitchen, not a good first sign but we really wanted to try to bbq. There was a new person working the cash register and long story short we ended up being overcharged a dollar a meal after waiting a long time to give our order. We took a seat in to wait for our food and it was filled with belligerently drunk people. One girl was screaming so loud they decided to turn the music on, the only problem was it was so loud my husband and I could not hear each other speak. The upside drunk girl was drowned out. We decided to get a beer to have with lunch, it took 10 minutes - not exaggerating. The tri-tip sandwich I got was pretty good actually, good flavor. But my husband's brisket was greasy and basically inedible. read more

Bars should make the best and only the best bar food. Not expecting some Morton stake or Tomys BBQ but this is just far from getting it together. Fancy pizza oven seems useless is you can't use it. Not sure why TB has 3 stars- possibly from unopened minded people? Every experience I've had with both the bar, food, shop & people have been great! All staff & the owner have always been pleasant, friendly & very welcoming! I love that you can come in dressed as you please & w/out a pretentious atmosphere! So many establishments around Chico have that pretentious vibe that just doesn't vibe with me. It's a great place to hang with friends, grab some drinks, food, play some games & catch the latest games & bands! Always something fun & new going on! Sunday brunch is a must here & other menus as well- they have a great cook (reminds me of my grandmothers cooking)! I walked in, not sue what to expect. It is a local country/hunter bar. The food is less than average. I had a club sandwich which had WAY to much may and the bread was not toasted. I have been buying fishing gear since they opened back in the 90's. Unfortunately, they have gone downhill. I think they are totally focused on the bar now. I went in there looking for a hootchies to fish Lake Oroville. Two employees had never heard of them and they don't carry them. Wanted a Lake Oroville map. Nope, don't have that either. This is the most uncomfortable and falling apart restaurant in Chico. I truly don't know how this place still manages to stay afloat. Who I assume is the manager, was taking shots at the bar and yelling being very belligerent. The person who took my order after 25 minutes had a cigarette behind his ear and was incredibly stand-offish. I feel bad for anyone who accidentally ends up here. Now I don't know where these bad reviews come from, but I have been here a lot and have only been more impressed, when I remember leaving that is. You need to have the Elk burger if you go, it is freaking amazing. All the food is good, I wasn't too hip on the Kangaroo burger but it wasn't disgusting.
