This place is sooo good, consistently, there are only a couple things keeping me from giving it a full five stars. When I order a pita to go, they don't give you the yummy chips with it. Secondly, the hot sauce has only been half to a third full of the smallest container ever. And if you did want to get an extra side, it's extra--I think they told me it was a buck more--which at a 1/3 of a dollop, certainly doesn't seem worth it. And yet there was a girl sitting at one of the tables, who was clearly done, with a hot sauce on her tray that hadn't even opened it. It would have gone to waste, so no shame, I asked her if I could have it. I suspect she didn't even want it since it was clearly unopened so perhaps if they want to keep down costs, they ask everyone if they want it or only give it to those who ask for it? All that aside (clearly I have a hot sauce problem, but that's beside the point) there's a sweet girl who's usually working that I appreciate her kind smile when I come in, apparently her name's Crystal, and the rest of the staff has been pretty cordial. The decor is a step above your typical walk-up and order joint, clean and warm. Ooh also wish they opened earlier, although I understand that may not be as cost-efficient since I may be one of the few rooster-risers who wants that Salmon & Egg pita at 9am (and yes I have waited if it was quarter 'til opening or left and come back. In summary, get here, get a frequent customer card and enjoy one of the few reasonably priced, accessible joints in the city, that you can get a great flavorful, relatively well-balanced, certainly satisfying meal made with good ingredients. read more

Been here many times for lunch. Really awesome food - I've had the kruveet, chicken and salmon. All absolutely delicious. I usually get the pan and it comes with a choice of yellow or brown rice with vegetables and hot sauce on the side. Huge portions. Place gets packed for lunch. Service is fast and place is clean. People clean up after themselves so a good bunch of folks who patronize this establishment. read more

Unbelievable. I went in thinking it was going to be basic takeout Middle Eastern food. No. It's so much more than that. I really couldn't believe how good it was. I had the salmon pita and I have never had anything like it. It was probably the best Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food I have ever had. Unfortunately the food here isn't as good as it used to be. Their hummus bowl was too salty, runny, and had too much olive oil. Their braised lamb was literally fat with a little bit of lamb. The pita that came with hummus was also very hard and not fresh-obviously reheated. Stay away from their cardamom chocolate chip cookie it's toooooo sweet doesn't taste good at all. Stumbled on this spot looking for a quick dinner on our way to a show. The service was fast and friendly and the pitas and plate were fresh and tasty. The parmesan and herb fries were the highlight- order them with the tatziki. We dined in and the atmosphere was cute and cozy with a nice music selection. Amazing chicken shawarma! But the counter staff is positively GRIM! Not friendly. And I asked if their pita was gluten free and got two different answers. "Yes. Today, we had one of the worst customer service experience ever. We ordered the Falafel dish which is not supposed to have almonds (one of us is highly allergic). We did ask for half/half falafel (sweet potato and regular) and double chopped salad instead of rice. The dish came and the falafel was all the regular ones (fine). But they ended up giving us half arugula salad that had almonds in it. We took this back to them and they first just kept denying it had almonds in it. We told them of the food allergy. So we picked out the almonds and show them. The substitute manager there took the dish, scooped out the arugula salad portion and replaced with the salads with no almonds. While doing this they also removed all the sauce on the dish. Up until this point, we were not upset. Seems like an honest mistake. But when we asked them if they could just replace the whole dish (the falafel was wrong anyways) the manager refused. She kept arguing with us saying we need to tell them next time that we don't want the arugula salad when we shouldn't have known. She made it seem like it was our fault and refused to replace the dish. At this point we were upset purely out of principle. That is just terrible customer service. And with an allergy, you would think they want to just replace the whole dish in case some almonds were left there. Instead she just got into an argument with us and said "you just don't get it". No one else come here, this place is mine!!! Jk I've been telling friends and strangers how great this place is. Someone asked me what my favorite food is and I responded ... "Taboonette!" There's Mediterranean food, and then there's this place. It's just special. For the first like, nine times I came here I couldn't not order the chicken schawarma pan. It's just everything. The schawarma is blissfully spiced with a nice juicy yellow curry and goes really well with the tart, crisp, pickle heavy Israeli salad. The big dollop of hummus is creamy and no nonsense and if there wasn't enough tahini in the hummus they spoon more tahini on top - and all of that creamy goodness mixed with the texture of bubbly brown rice seasoned with onion and the oil from the schawarma all sitting happily together in a cute little pan??? I finally branched out to the Kruveet which I love just as much and eat on days when I don't feel like meat. It's roasted cauliflower, spaghetti squash that is spiced surprisingly well, a huge spoonful of melt in your mouth creamy-fried (not crunchy-fried thank god) eggplant, a refreshing arugula salad with zingy vinaigrette, almonds, currants? and hints of basil AND ... AND the infamous hummus and tahini dollops. The restaurant is even cute to boot! My only complaint is that the music is always aggressively loud and comically off-brand and I get the sense that the staff doesn't want ya hanging around too long, drooling all over the tables. read more

Great food and super service -- but why did they have to change their menu? The beet salad is incredible, and the salmon plate is absolutely delicious! So why rock the boat? Even some of NY's super chefs keep their "tried and true" on the menu, year in and year out. Bobby Flay, Thomas Keller, Danny Meyer... all toy with their menu but make sure to retain their signature plates. We order from Taboonette several times a week (sometimes daily). One of the cleanest and chic places I have ever eaten Schwarma from! It was delicious both in presentation and flavor, however I felt something was lacking. Perhaps the chicken lacked a bit of flavor I am used to tasting, or perhaps the rice was a bit too bland. Either way this is a solid option for quick schwarma in the area. I was disappointed by the lack of red sauce...instead we get a green sauce? Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to return but would return of im in the area and craving Schwarma. read more
