Let me clarify, that my true review is a 4.5, but I'm rounding up. Who knew that this place would be so hopping on a Monday! We were seated outside on the deck near the bar right away. Everything on the menu and drink list looked appetizing, and the drinks being made by the bartenders looked tasty too! My husband ordered a Proof beer, and I ordered the Southern Paloma. I regretted not getting the Watermelon Margarita because while the Paloma was pretty to look at, the flavor was nothing special. The waitress quickly brought out a roll for each of us. It was a good roll, and a nice gesture, but it just seemed kind of random with no butter or honey or jam or anything to spread on it. My husband ordered the Seersucker, which tasted DE-licious. The caramelized onions and coffee bacon jam... just yum. I got the 23 burger with a large helping of bacon on it and cheese melting right off the burger. I could only eat half! Good burgers! The wait for the burgers was longer than expected though, (hence the 4.5 stars) We ended up ordering the banana pudding, which came out in a cute little mason jar. The home made whipped cream along with the caramelized bananas hit the spot. Overall, great experience, and possibly the best outdoor seating spot in Tallahassee. Monday night, sat at the bar. This was The Front Porch which had a fire and closed a year or so ago. The space is fantastic. Great outdoor areas. I was glad to see it open under new venue. Space - as mentioned the space is fantastic. Great old house remodeled with wonderful southern decor and really nice outdoor porch/deck areas. Pretty much unchanged from The Front Porch but really no need and a good business decision on the new owners part. Ambience - Monday night so a little slow to be expected but nicely lively. Music, loudness fairly ideal. Food - I had a caesar salad start and the pecan crusted chicken. The salad was good - fresh, dressing a little heavy but just about right and I think homemade croutons. The chicken was really delicious, but the portion was almost laughable. I think it was a quarter breast, for $18 (restaurant supply wholesale maybe $1.80). It came with a sort of southern hash - green bean bits, sweet potato hash and ham bits. Again, very very tasty. They should make this hash an entree option, I could've eaten a plate of it alone (and gotten more full), but the pitiful chicken wing came with only like a half cup. Service - reasonable but far from attentive. I sat at the bar. Three bartenders. Never more than 8-10 patrons and yet my wine glass went empty 3 times with no notice. The bartenders were more occupied talking to one another and checking the texts on their phones. Service wasn't slow but I had to ask for it, it wasn't offered. When I did ask it was quick and courteous. Bottom Line - wonderful space, chef preparation great, food portions/value - plan something after to fill up, service -- needs a FOH manager and focus. read more

After anxiously awaiting the opening of the restaurant, and hearing only but good things about this place, my wife and I had to go. We had a reservation for a Friday night, but due to some unexpected planning, we had to quickly switch to Thursday evening. Although they were booked for the evening (which was expected, and there was a political campaign happening) we were seating in less than 30 minutes. Because of the last minute planning, we had to sit outside in the hot June summer heat. Luckily, we were under the patio and the fans kept us pretty cool the entire evening. The place was busy, yet our server was there just moments after we were seated. She quickly arrived with our waters and asked if we had any questions (yes, my wife always has questions when we're at a new restaurant). My wife ordered the Southern Rueben with fries. Recommended by a friend, I ordered the Lucky Goat Coffee-Rubbed Ribeye. I mean, I already love Lucky Goat coffee, how would this NOT be delicious, right?! The food took a while to arrive. Again, they were busy, and we were enjoying a nice evening with each other, so we didn't mind too much. After our food arrived (I'd say 40ish minutes), the food looked delicious! First, my steak was huge! Cooked to perfection, this steak was one of the best I've had in my life. Noted: I don't typically order steaks at restaurant. I would not consider myself an expert on steaks. That being said, it was one of the best. I couldn't even finish it all, which is rare for me (no pun intended). I wasn't a huge fan of the potatoes, they seemed just a tad undercooked, but the asparagus was outstanding. My wife's sandwich was quite large as well. When it comes to ordering a reuben at a restaurant like Table 23, I was hesitant. But, with it being the main picture on their website, we figured it had to be good. Man were we right. The sauerkraut, corned beef, sauce, cheese, and collard ON the sandwich, this could just not be beat. For dessert, we ordered the strawberry pretzel parfait. This was the only thing we had that we thought was a little overrated. However, dessert isn't a make or break for me. We were on a date that night, and at a new restaurant, which means we eat until our heart is content. Overall, I was a huge fan of this spot. We've recommended it to a few friends since then who have loved it. In my experience, restaurants like these are, unfortunately, over-hyped and under-whelming in Tallahassee. We have been coming to Table 23 since it first opened about 2 years ago. The food and service are quite good. But what makes Table 23 special is the porch. The covered porch wraps around the restaurant with fans going in the summer and heaters in the winter. It has a relaxed atmosphere and is a great place to have a leisurely drink or meal. Table 23 has a great selection of appetizers; some of my favorites include the pecan crusted okra, southern slate (a meat and cheese plate), fried cheese curds, and the spinach dip. The spinach dip is not your typical boring restaurant dip, Table 23's dip is brightened by the addition of Parmesan cheese and is delicious. You should give it a try, but share it with the table since the portion is quite large. A couple of entrees that we like include the gulf grouper, the fish of the day, and the 23 burger. And in case you over do it with the appetizers, one of the salads topped with fried oysters is a great choice for an entree. read more

Great ambience. Slow but polite service. Inconsistent bartending. Got the same drink twice, different taste and presentation. Appetizer fried okra good not great. Meatloaf special was good, but twice baked potato was smallish and asparagus was tough. Shrimp and grits was not good. Watery and the shrimp had a bad taste. One shrimp was still completely shelled. All others still had tails, which seemed strange. Doesn't come close to Jonas or Paisley Cafes shrimp and grits. Overall disappointing, especially considering the price. Wouldn't recommend for anything other than a cool place to have a drink and a appetizer. Gave this place another chance. Much better! Oyster appetizer was incredible. All I can say is wow. This place was delish. We decided to go a little crazy on the appetizers. Pimento cheese and guac was yummy. Bacon wrapped scallops were amazing. And the blackened tuna and fig was to die for! For dinner I had the gulf grouper. Although the grouper was slightly undercooked, the shrimp and crab cheesy heaven on top made it spectacular. My wife had the burger, which she didn't care for, and the sweet potato fries were bland. My mother had the catch of the day, which was mahi, and she seemed to enjoy it. My son had the three little pigs but he wasn't too fond of it! Dessert time. The creme brûlée was good but could have used a little more crunch on top. The key lime pie had a little too much crust but the flavor was great. The service was great and our server was attentive and pleasant. All in all if I were back in Tally I'd visit this place again! Trying out Table 23 during its soft opening over Fathers Day weekend. Has a nice selection of food and beverages. The interior and decor has been updated. Their motto: You're always welcome to our table. Sums up things nicely. It's fantastic. We tried the Midtown Sundown and the Dirty Gentleman cocktail. The Sundown was flavorful without being too sweet, but was missing something. The remake was outstanding. The DG martini was smooth and not too harsh. The old fashioned tried subsequently was amazing. The appetizer we tried: Oysters Two ways. The fried oysters were large and fantastic. The broiled oysters were microscopic....definitely not local oysters. Perhaps the small size is due to the time of year. We had the fresh fish which was grouper. Delicious. We also had the Lucky Goat coffee-rubbed ribeye....amazing!!!!! It came with asparagus (al dente) and roasted new potatoes. Capped off the evening with their pretzel strawberry parfait. Wow!!! I love this place so much. The Sunday brunch is delicious. I always get the Chicken and Waffles. Their blueberry siracha sauce is AMAZING. Dinner is spectacular as well. Me and my Mom went for an early dinner here maybe 2 weeks ago. We sat at the bar (where my Mom likes to sit so she can have fun conversations with the bartenders) the lack of customer service by all who worked in the bar that night minus the bus boy was pretty bad. You typically hear great things about this place so I was really suprised by the shallow atmosphere provided by the staff. Next the food. I'm sorry to say but it was nothing short of nasty. We had fried green tomatoes (btw I'm vegan) the batter literally tasted like it had been used for breading fish. There was a very fishy taste to it. I ordered the black bean burger wrapped in lettuce no cheese and all the burger came to me on a bun with cheese. This was the most disgusting black bean burger I have ever eaten in my life. Had the Southern Slate charcuterie board for my meal. Well presented and quite good although a little pricey at $20. Place was packed on a Thurs night and I sat on the outside deck, which was cool but very loud with so many people talking. Biggest tip I would give is if you set outside make sure that you are not near the door to the inside. Came here for dinner opening night. We got seated straight away outside. The place was relatively busy for it being the first night of service, but it wasn't packed. Our server was fantastic so overall I would give the service 5 stars. I ordered a drink with mint in it and when I got the drink it didn't look like what was described on the menu. The server went back to check with the bar and they said it was the correct drink they just ran out of mint. On opening day, I don't know how you run out of things like that. So my server was nice enough to let me exchange my drink for something else. I ordered wine and this time is came with a whole bunch of cork in it. So now I had to try for a third time to get a drink. It took about 45 mins to get a drink I could drink. The oysters are probably the best thing out of the appetizers. They were delicious and so was the green bean tarter sauce it comes with. For the main course, I ordered a filet. The real test for any restaurant is if they can cook a steak right. I ordered it medium rare with the hope of it being medium and unfortunately, it was a little overdone. My husbands grouper was delicious and cooked perfectly. The dessert was good but nothing to rave about. I will definitely be willing to try this place again. But overall, it gets 4 stars for now because if I am paying $34 for a meal when the restaurant isn't completely filled, I expect it to be cooked perfectly. read more

Super improved. Brunch here is a big deal. They really do a great job at accommodating a huge crowd. I did however have some trouble getting assistance at times. The steak and eggs came out amazing. Fabulous flavors. A glorious smoked New York steak. My hash was more like a green pepper hash but still eggcellent (did you see what I did there). I could of used some more hollandaise but to be honest I always want more hollandaise. I honestly would swim in a river of hollandaise. I'd flop around it for days gobbling. Back stroking. My eggs while cooked over medium they were fried a little hard. You know when they get brown and crunchy on the edges due to excess heat. With all due respect this was a very busy joint pumping out hard core brunches. Nothing like a perfect fall day ordering wine and eggs with the breeze gusting in. One of my favorite brunch spots by far! Every weekend me and my friends don't even have to think where we're going to eat. They have an adorable ambiance paired with excellent food and drinks! AWESOME FOOD. This was my first dinning experience in Tally and they set the bar high for everywhere else. The service was quick and friendly. The food is amazing and true to their description. They have a unique spin on classic southern food and even improve on some dishes! Wonderful selection of indi-brews, most are even local! The atmosphere is cozy but classy at the same time. Well fourth time is NOT the charm--4 times in the last few years we tried to just get someone to check us in and 4 times ignored--like we were standing in front of the two employees at the check in counter and they are chatting and ignoring us... not even a "one moment please". We may as well have been invisible lol. And I mentioned this to an employee at the bar as we were walking out and he went "uh" and shrugged. Yes it was crowded but looking at the plates of food nothing looked special. We wondered as we left why it was crowded. I can't comment on the taste of the food since I never get past the check in. We eat out a lot and this is the only place where the staff is so obviously uninterested in serving customers. But they are crowded so I guess the owners are doing so well that they don't care. Too bad for the servers-we love food and we tip really well lol. Well we are now mosying on down to Blu Halo or Kool Beanz where the food AND service are always amazing and wonderful. Great atmosphere on the porch or deck, especially with nice weather. Inside is nice too but sometimes a bit cramped. Brunch and lunch menus are great. If you go for brunch, I highly recommend the bottomless mimosas--only $12 and seriously bottomless. Also, their sticky buns are amazing, and the biscuits and gravy is great (I orders mine with chicken tenders.) The lunch menu is good, specifically the cornbread croutons on their salad and sandwiches. As to dinner, there are a few things we love (I could eat the Grouper 23 for dinner every night!), but it's not the best menu. Always good service when we've been. They take reservations. read more

Great food. Highly recommend the grouper! Tuna and coconut shrimp appetizers are fairly predictable, but very good. Tomato, feta, basil salad is a refreshing twist on a Caprese. Key lime pie was also predictable, but excellent. Would not suggest the house cabernet, but there are other very good options. If you're making reservations there are 2 options for "outside", 1) outside similar to outside at any other restaurant, 2) is outside under the porch, which is enclosed and would be my choice, even over inside, assuming its air conditioned. read more
