The associate asked for my phone number, and I gave it to him. He told me the total, and I paid my bill. So far, so good. "Am I good to go?" "Just a minute, ma'am, is this your first time at this store?" "Yes." I can see him analyzing my account information on his computer screen. As a former salesperson of many years, it feels very clear to me that he is looking for an opportunity for an upsell. "You've never been in here before? How long have you been a customer with Metro?" "No, I just came in to pay my phone bill. I'm not sure. I'm actually in a hurry to get back to Yosemite. Am I good to go?" "Just a minute, ma'am, I wanted to offer you this free tablet." "Oh, no thank you. I don't need it. Am I good to go?" "But ma'am, this is a free gift for you because you've been a customer of Metro for so long." "No thank you--" This went on for probably about three to five minutes. Finally convinced that the tablet was entirely free with no obligation whatsoever, I was like, okay, fine, if this is some kind of anniversary promotion or something, maybe it's my lucky day, I'll take it. "Okay, that'll just be $25 to activate." It took a few more minutes of arguing and adamantly telling him NO before I finally just walked out of the store while he was still talking. His inability to take no for an answer might have been considered sociopathic under any other circumstances. It is not okay to be THIS AGGRESSIVE in your sales tactics. I ended up Googling the promotion, and he was lying. You can Google it yourself. There is currently no free tablet being offered to long-time Metro customers without any fees, obligations, or service commitments whatsoever. The deal he was selling me doesn't even exist. I had asked him if there was a charge to have service on the tablet, and he said, "The service will be the same." It looks like he might have been planning to downgrade my cellphone plan from the $50 plan to the $35 plan and then add a $15 tablet plan without telling me. Although he was not successful in going through with it, I felt that his attempted sales tactics were overly aggressive and deceptive. I will make it a point to never pay my bill at this location ever again.
